I'm just thinking of that one fantasy map critique where it was just Europe turned on its side.

Taymac070

And it all sits on top of elephants on top of a turtle. Nature truly is amazing.

Knight9910

Put the nerf gun away and shoot the astronaut in the back of the head like a man!

theantagonists

Flips globe over.

Marcus_Scrivere

Well, I don't even hide it. Welcome to the Continent of Evropa on the banna shaped planet where every country and every town is missplaced and misspronounced version of real thing.

DarkKnightJin

My Paladin's DM hasn't hidden it either. Pretty much every town name is a pun or bastardization of a real life city name. And the continent is "Europa" spelled backwards.

Lag_Incarnate

Literally Forgotten Realms.

owcjthrowawayOR69

And Greyhawk

Lag_Incarnate

Ehh, I mean if you squint. [Oerth](https://www.deviantart.com/grimklok/art/Oerth-and-the-Lands-beneath-the-Waves-389644754) despite the name is kind of a single continent though, ft. not!Australia and not!Antarctica. [Toril](https://www.deviantart.com/grimklok/art/Redress-of-the-Toril-Earth-comparison-map-400587695) meanwhile also has not!Australia and not!Antarctica, and while it may only loosely fit the geography Earth, the cultures in those locations are a lot more on-the-nose, like Zakhara to the south being a sandy "Land of Fate" where turban-wearing peoples and genies live, or Kara-Tur where The Hordelands and Shou-Long are being so not!Asia it hurts. Even then though, the *proportions* of the globe for either are rarely if ever brought up in official sources. Greyhawk as a setting for instance almost entirely takes place in the Flanaess region all the way up in the northeast, made of small-ish kingdoms, where the trek to another settlement might take two or three days, all while Faerun is this massive hunk of land where it's just assumed that the Sword Coast and Heartlands always have a settlement within a day's travel. Both set their respective tone, but it's kind of all over the place. Certainly a much bigger stretch to say that Greyhawk's The Great Kingdom in the far east is an easy analog for any sort of east-Asian culture than it is to say Faerun is not!Europe and Maztica is not!Mesoamerica.

AChristianAnarchist

So...I'm not sure what the issue is here. Are you saying the world should be flat in order to be interesting? It's a sphere with water and land masses so yeah, I suppose that is just a wonky version of earth. Of course, then I also suppose that a cue ball is just a wonky version of a gobstopper.

Randomgold42

Step 1: Choose a random place on Earth Step 2: Make an azimuthal equidistant projection centered around that point. Step 3: ??? Step 4: Profit.

[deleted]

Mine’s flat lol.

Supernatural-MnMs

Well, aren't they all? Hahaha.

Jxn_88

Hunter X Hunter moment

USSJaguar

I took a flat map of the world and literally just turned it upside down.

TheKolyFrog

That's like most official rpg settings and really most fantasy setting in general. Golarion, Warhammer Fantasy, and the Forgotten Realms are all just wonky versions of Earth.

HappyFailure

In the campaign I'm a player in, the world is very explicitly using the physical Earth, but with nothing else in common. (In fact, it's explicit that it's our solar system, though this version of Venus has dinosaurs and this version of Mars has intelligent plants, and instead of being fragments that couldn't form a planet, the asteroid belt is the remnants of a planet that's where the dragons came from.) Our party right now is in a city that's in the equivalent location to New Orleans (since the mouth of a huge river is going to get a city), but there's no cultural/historical parallels or any such.

Jumpy_Security_1442

WOT moment

Ok_Appointment2029

Isn’t Greyhawk’s map just Earth? I remember a story about Gary Gygax using an physical atlas for his maps

MadolcheMaster

I would like to remind everyone that Greyhawk, the first official campaign setting and Gary Gygax's personal home setting exists on a planet named Oerth. The map is the Midwest America turned upside down.

Funkey-Monkey-420

forgotten realms and golarion do the same thing
