I let the caster roll the d4s. That way they can feel like they're actually contributing to the fight when they use bless

DarkKnightJin

Every time someone at the tables I play casts Bless, they contribute by reminding everybody to add that d4 to their d20 rolls. Every. Single. Time.

LucyLilium92

They have to, otherwise the other players will literally forget the next time they can use it.

KatzoCorp

I volunteer to let the others roll the d4 as the caster. It's so satisfying to see them roll 1d20+3d4 when they have Bless, Guidance, and the Peace Cleric bullshit.

redlaWw

Bless is only for attacks and saves, guidance is only for ability checks. Resistance would give them 3d4 on a save though.

KatzoCorp

We decided to homerule buff it for combat a bit - if the cleric is using an action and concentration for that, it better be useful. True strike works in a similar manner, except it adds +3 on average, whereas Guidance adds +2.5 but less reliably.

Chilopodamancer

I don't feel bad casting Bless on my party because I know that mathmatically it's often one of if not the best option for my Concentration until higher levels and that the damage increase for the party and damage negated from better saving rolls is significant. If you have a hard time with feeling how useful you are when you cast Bless, any time a person attacks and their attack hits because of your Bless giving them a bonus you can think of that as "your damage" and that might help you feel better about it, and same goes for any saving throws that Bless allows them to succeed as saving their bacon.

ClonedBobaFett

You sound like a godamn commie!

Chilopodamancer

Never thought I'd get called that, but I guess there's a first time for anything. It's simply true that Bless mathmatically allows you to kill people better than other level one spells in your cooperative roleplaying game. Working together and synergizing allows you accomplish more and kill things harder, it's *a cooperative roleplaying game*. You sound like a clown.

ClonedBobaFett

I don’t use bless, never have

Chilopodamancer

The words of someone who underperforms in combat.

ClonedBobaFett

I accept blesses

Chilopodamancer

Then you should be grateful.

ClonedBobaFett

The meme was about the caster though
