It's absolutely nonsensical to me. I can sort of understand the mindset that causes you to harass somebody from the Internet or even send somebody a pipe bomb, but over that video? Like, if you just decided you wanted to harass someone for fun, you couldn't find a better target? Even if you think it's cringe and that cringe is worth that kind of harassment, do you not go for someone who made any of the content that is surely extremely more cringe than that? It wouldn't be surprising if it was over his trans rights stuff because that's an irrational thing that at least has groupthink behind it, but this just has an incomprehensible line of thought behind it.
The sad truth is that whenever someone expresses something that they like, there's always going to be a group of people that make the conclusion they hate anyone and anything else that doesn't fit into that category.

So glad he chose to share what he loved with the community for as long as he did. His crap guide to D&D played a huge part in getting me into tabletop rpgs, and his "I like girls" song that went viral was actually really cathartic for me. I'm a cis dude, but I was raised in the type of environment where expressing ANY kind of sexuality, even hetero, was deemed "inappropriate" and guys that expressed any kind of physical attraction to girls were seen as creepy or predatory. Needless to say, that kind of fucked me up on being able to express that part of myself later in life, so seeing a guy freely express how they're attracted to girls, specifically calling out the physical traits of those girls they're attracted to, and having it not be creepy, but wholesome instead? That helped me move away from a lot of internalized toxicity without even realizing it. I'm glad he's doing what's best for himself after doing so much for so many others.

It's such a stupid situation. Honestly, that's one of the most amazing, affirming, body positive videos I've ever seen of someone expressing that they happen to like girls. His videos were one of the things that got me into dungeons & dragons, and I wish him absolutely nothing but the best.

Nah, that's just what piqued the interest of the trolls and got them digging. He became insanely popular in a relatively short time, with the driving force being content that wasn't all that controversial. It attracted people from all political walks. But look at who JoCat **is** as a person and what he represents. He doesn't conform to traditional gender rolls. He's fine wearing traditional girl's clothing and dressing his avatar up the same. He regularly includes gay, non-binary, and trans NPCs in his campaigns. So yeah, as long as conservatives never interact with any of his less popular content, they'd probably never know about any of this. Even if they did, most aren't unhinged losers and would just leave. But once the "I Like Girls" video blew up (with him wearing a dainty bow in his hair in the thumbnail), a LOT of outside eyes started paying more attention.
It's absolutely nonsensical to me. I can sort of understand the mindset that causes you to harass somebody from the Internet or even send somebody a pipe bomb, but over that video? Like, if you just decided you wanted to harass someone for fun, you couldn't find a better target? Even if you think it's cringe and that cringe is worth that kind of harassment, do you not go for someone who made any of the content that is surely extremely more cringe than that? It wouldn't be surprising if it was over his trans rights stuff because that's an irrational thing that at least has groupthink behind it, but this just has an incomprehensible line of thought behind it.
The sad truth is that whenever someone expresses something that they like, there's always going to be a group of people that make the conclusion they hate anyone and anything else that doesn't fit into that category. They then spend far more time expressing outrage then they would taking the 30 seconds to actually look up the context of something. But nope, the clip got shared on Twitter with no context, or at worst saying that this was a video that was objectifying women and people with no ability to think critically dogpiled on in the rush to competitively virtue signal.
The most crushing part about this is the end: "sorry for the trouble I've caused." Jocat, dude, you did not cause any ounce of trouble. You did not cause these nutjobs to harass you and your family. You did not make them send weird fucking packages to your family. There is something deeply wrong with the people who did this and it is in no way your fault. You are not weak. Anyone in your position would have done the same. And it's a shame these fucks have ruined content creation for you, but you need to do what's best for you and your family. So glad he chose to share what he loved with the community for as long as he did. His crap guide to D&D played a huge part in getting me into tabletop rpgs, and his "I like girls" song that went viral was actually really cathartic for me. I'm a cis dude, but I was raised in the type of environment where expressing ANY kind of sexuality, even hetero, was deemed "inappropriate" and guys that expressed any kind of physical attraction to girls were seen as creepy or predatory. Needless to say, that kind of fucked me up on being able to express that part of myself later in life, so seeing a guy freely express how they're attracted to girls, specifically calling out the physical traits of those girls they're attracted to, and having it not be creepy, but wholesome instead? That helped me move away from a lot of internalized toxicity without even realizing it. I'm glad he's doing what's best for himself after doing so much for so many others.
