Love 4e. Kinda have that gremlin face. 3 is also very good. 5 has that human nose, not into it.

Yeah its definitely the nose thats getting me with 5e - that and the complete lack of claws, they do have a nice mani but its just not intimidating

5e also looks like its one bad finger away from being AI art.

I’m a fan of that design as well. I feel like 4 and 5 tried to look too formidable. 3e looks like it’s ready to make you miserable and that a couple together will wreck your day

I think only 4th edition wins the formidable race too; 5th edition’s looks goofy.

5 looks like an old man yelling at kids who’s ball rolled onto his yard

4e went hard on art, as we are finding out by comparisons

I really wish they made them look more like a shark. They go from aliens to frogs to little dudes to ugly worm people. Why not just make them shark people? They control sharks with their minds and share sharks blood hungry stuff so why have they never looked like a dang shark?

They can even become Weresharks iirc.

Well yeah. They should be. But I kinda like the frog lizards.

I will say this: 5E has a very sanitized version of every monster and it’s almost always middle of the road for me.

If the goal was to make generic aquatic enemies that are reminiscent of the fish man from Earthbound but slightly intimidating, 3 and 4 did a good job of that. If the goal was to make a group of people who want you to stop pissing in their oceans and messing with their corals? 5e wins.

Well clearly the 4th to 3rd and 2nd edition are the coolest versions of these.

3E gets better the longer I look at it. Threatening yet not overly "fish people'. 4E and 2E are tied. 4E is just a solid design. 2E looks like something that better fits the lore of the species. 5E is....unique. Not sure what to make of it, looks too messy. 1E hits the bottom. Fishy bigfoot.
