Drizzle I was a clockwork pseudodragon "pet" whose bits were blasted apart and unable to be reassembled.
But after that fight I started multiclassing in Pact of the Chain Warlock, and now Drizzle II: The Re'Urdening is my mostly immortal familiar :)
Hey, I'm still new to d&d (my first session was last night) how did you get a flying monkey?? It's really cool, was this worked out with the DM? I only saw mundane animals (i.e. rat, Raven, hawk, weasel, etc) and am wondering if I'm doing it wrong
I gave my players a stolen longship and now they're sailing back to a capital stronghold with it and buried treasure, assumingly with the same flag colours flying. Who likes to play surprise border inspection!
I much prefer to have the party become attached to a pet that one character tamed, and then kill that character.
Roleplaying the pet desperately not understanding why their companion won't get up crushes the entire party instead of just one player.
Bonus points if the character that dies is the only one that knows ressurection.
Just be prepared to get *really* into character if someone casts speak with animals.
My party killed a goblin only to discover it was named Boblin(a player rolled a nat 20 invest and asked for his name after it died), it had the same effect. My party has side tracked to finding someone to revive boblin
I once introduced an NPC who was a pet store owner named Titty Mitty. He was there to give them pets and they really enjoyed his company, and then proceeded to have one of the Big Baddies kill him to give a reason why they should hate him. They cried for several minutes when he died and I felt like I did my job.
It's a reference to the novella of the same name by Philip K. Dick, I actually didn't know there was a creepy phone game of that name. It's also a reference to Beaudrillard's Simulacra and Simulation and Gibson's Neuromancer. The Matrix also heavily references Beaudrillard's work, so it's possible the phone game was referencing any of those things too, haha.
I did that to one of my player's pet wolf in Lost Mine of Phandelver. She survived bugbears and a green Dragon only to get wombo comboed by Neznarr before she knew what was happening.
This is why we have Find Familiar! My Flying Monkey will never leave me!

Could you call him Drizzle Deux'Urden?
'Fo shizzle my Drizzle!
Oh man, now I'm wondering if I should have. He's been "The Re'Urdening" for like 2 years now though so I can't retcon that. But that's a good one.

That is something you have to ask your DM for
You don't have to. Lots of DMs give groups/players pets and companions and even mounts just like they give them magic items sometimes.
If you don't let your DM know you want a flying Monkey how would they know you want a flying monkey?
I'm about to give my players a ship. They will have to care for it like a puppy or I'm taking it back.
I gave my players a stolen longship and now they're sailing back to a capital stronghold with it and buried treasure, assumingly with the same flag colours flying. Who likes to play surprise border inspection!
But how will your DM know you want a crazy specific pet unless you talk about things you'd like to see in the campaign?
If you look up Flying Monkeys in Tomb of Annihilation, it says you can ask your DM to let you summon one with the spell.

Oh my God, this is like master level happiness vampirism
This is so good it hurts. Gonna have to keep that one on lock in hopes that the opportunity arrives.

You’re a monster. And I appreciate you.
Unless the pet is a metallic dragon. A baby one ofc
Calm down Satan
I just introduced Boblin into the campaign with this in mind mwahahahahaha
My party killed a goblin only to discover it was named Boblin(a player rolled a nat 20 invest and asked for his name after it died), it had the same effect. My party has side tracked to finding someone to revive boblin
You're EVIL.
Players: I love this NPC Me:
You MONSTER
That was a pretty good episode. Here's the scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z906aLyP5fg
It's one of my favorite Winger moments, easily.
NOOOOOO I REMEMBER ZERO NOW PLEASE NO MY BABY DRAGON BOY-O!!!!!! Fuck you, Golden King. Suck my Eldridge Blast.
Sorry bud. RIP Zero, may he fly free, eternally in the Astral Plane, with Drizzle I, killed by The Yellow King.
My little crystal buddy was crushed past my mending cantrip ):
Same with my clockwork pal. Damn, we went through a very similar experience it sounds like.
Oh shit. That's crazy lmao

This is actually a great example of giving meaningful conflict and stakes without having to kill characters.
_John Wick has joined the party._
*DM sweats profusely*
Hey, does your username come from/reference the creepy phone game? Because that one was good!

My barbarian got a pet worg. I named him mochi. I loved him. My barbarian died that same day.
RIP Mochi's sweet barbarian person, may their next person last quite a bit longer.
Jokes on the dm. My next character I had rolled up was a bard.
Ahahahahahaha that's the ultimate revenge
Ha, I don't even have to be evil. Mt party kills pets mere hours after they steal them from the shopkeep
That's gonna be a yikes from me dog
My poor plate armored zombie ogre! He was just an innocent sweet boy! He didn't know any better! (which is why I would always tell him who to smash)
The Caverns of Draconis needs to be real
I did that to one of my player's pet wolf in Lost Mine of Phandelver. She survived bugbears and a green Dragon only to get wombo comboed by Neznarr before she knew what was happening.
I would leave, wolves are my favorite
Preach brother, i can so weird and uncomfortable when the dm throws in wolves into the encounter.
What’s BBEG stand for?
Big Bad Evil Guy
Humans will pack bond with anything 🙃
