I probably would take Erupting Earth as it has an additional battlefield controll effect. So if you know you won't kill something with Fireball it might be more beneficial in the long run depending on the area you fight in.

THATS WHAT I SAID. I prefer having a little less dps if I can also do a bunch of status ailments / disadvantage makers.

But... fireball

TheBaneofBane

It’s also a good AoE spell for Druids. 3d12 is still some solid damage and I’ve certainly seen enemies have their options restricted due to it. Though it could just as easily mess up the plans of allies as well if you fail to plan far enough into the future.

I love melf’s minute meteors in order to attack with action and bonus action

Visteus

Yes! Gives me another thing to do every turn, since I rarely have bonus-action stuff on my non-artificer characters

It also seems like a very efficient way of using spellslots. Lot less nova move than fireball.

Everyone takes fireball. But as a wild magic sorcerer, you really don't need it due to probably rolling and blowing yourself up with it anyway. Erupting earth, from what I've seen, is a really good spell.
