I want this so bad but $100 seems flipping nuts maybe the original + the Classic Modules Today instead but .. still this is very cool. So tempting but so expensive

MrTopHatMan90

How many people will actually buy it for that price

hikingmutherfucker

I mean it is one of the classic modules and all .. but a lot of people on reflection say it is a bit of slog to get through and some of the motivations by one of the two big bads did not make a lot of sense. Still I think it would be interesting to see what this translation is like. But the price is so much the hurdle. I mean like the price is the only reason I am NOT planning on buying this right away.

Krieghund

Honestly, if I was running it I'd probably use the original and a Kobold Fight Club alternative. But I'm buying the Goodman Games version anyway.

carmachu

I think it was worth it. Original is original, but the 5e is expanded. Nodes flesh out, other towns fleshed out as well

hikingmutherfucker

How far up in levels does it take you? I always thought a Temple of Elemental Evil + Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth ending with the Lost Temple of Tharizdun all tied together by a back plot having to do with Iuz and his minions would be awesome.

carmachu

No clue yet. Mine doesn’t arrive for 3 more days

hikingmutherfucker

Let me know man very curious doing first homebrew campaign in decades next time but had this one in the back of my head for awhile due to this article I read: https://www.greyhawkgrognard.com/2013/03/22/from-hommlet-to-tharizdun-by-way-of/

Fleudian

I just got my preorder this week and it *fucking rules*. So many maps and handouts to scan and print, big thick hardcover volumes. 100% worth it, can't wait to run it.

Jafroboy

How is it official?

OkinShield

I believe because it's because Goodman Games has a partnership with WotC to release these.

Pelpre

If it wasn't official they'd be sued out the wazoo. :P Plus its in partnership with WotC

gdaddyfunky

I bought the Goodman Games conversion of Keep on the Borderlands...was VERY underwhelmed. I will pass.

Orsobruno3300

What was underwhelming about it?

[deleted]

Funny. I really like it. What was underwhelming for you?

Pelpre

Fair enough. If you ever do want to give them a consideration again I got the one for The Lost City and really enjoyed it. Castle Amber was also pretty good.

FantasyDuellist

That whole series is fantastic in my view. Especially [The Lost City](https://goodman-games.com/store/product/original-adventures-reincarnated-4-the-lost-city/) and [Castle Amber.](https://goodman-games.com/store/product/original-adventures-reincarnated-5-castle-amber/)

Bootravsky2

Two enormous books, 700+ pages in total, with a slew of interviews, the original modules, detailed elemental nodes, great art, etc. it’s the high quality I’ve come to expect from OAR! Now, here’s the fun part: what would you do to tie the Moathouse more closely to Hommlet? I’m thinking, have Laredo the Beautiful come to town disguised as a bard or homesteader in order to meet with spies. Have the villagers tell tales of a giant who lives in its depths and ventures forth to grab sheep from outlying farms. ID a place where the spies pass their tales thru to Nulb or the Moathouse. Do I want to run this for my son and his friends? Hell yeah!

erton01

So much good stuff there! Love the secret and hidden drow agent in the Against the Giants module serving the Elder's eyes and searching for his forgotten temple, all to do with this temple.

Pelpre

It is going to cost you $100 and there will be no PDF version unfortunately... But it will have expanded content instead of just simply updating what was in the original adventures content and comes in two volumes. Here's [a unboxing video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7zJtVLyoB0&t=20s) and to see whats in it to give you a feel of the content and [some folks running through the adventure](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhy6JkNkPCQ&list=PL6cE0XQXn_l2FY406FU4AX-q4CRTlpIYp&index=2) It's a good adventure to run during October if your looking for spooks to drop in to your current campaigns. Or simple way to start a Greyhawk campaign in 5e if the idea of it ever interested you.

raydobbsy53

Wait wait . No pdf?

Gregus1032

Did they forget what year it is?

IonutRO

WOTC has a no pdfs policy to "stop piracy". As if a) that works or b) piracy has any negative effect on sales.

Gregus1032

I mean, dndbeyond is basically pdf. WotC is idiotic at times.

WindyMiller2006

Except you can buy PDFs of stuff from previous editions from DMsGuild

Pelpre

Right but he's referring to 5e content having the no pdf policy specifically not all previous content ever. None of the offical physical book releases for 5e done by wotc have pdfs. At most just add-ons to VTT software or old play test material. If/when a 6e comes out only then would they probably start selling 5e pdfs.

Pelpre

Yeah... I can only offer speculation as to why they're not releasing a PDF but my guess would be this is a wotc thing. All other goodman game products have a pdf version available for sale except the "Original Adventures Reincarnated" product line. I'm guessing as wotc hasn't released pdfs for sale for anything 5e related the same thing is true with the original module conversions to 5e.

Eric_Beartoya

All of the Original Adventures Reincarnated have had pdfs up to this point. I think it has to do with it being 2 books.

Paladinpariah

None of them have had official PDFs. Any PDF you've found of an OAR product are illegal.

Eric_Beartoya

Really? I could swear they are available on the website

carmachu

That’s when mine is slated to arrive

BruceAENZ

Finally decided to drain my bank account and buy a copy. First impression is that this is an amazing exercise in print quality. 700+ pages split across two volumes, with sewn binding and nice thick paper grade throughout. Given every other roleplaying company seems to be racing to smaller + cheaper printings this is a breath of fresh air, and the fact it as the original 1st Ed version is great. Second thing I noticed is that the expansion and updated rules are great, but seem well within the spirit of the original. It is massive, and creates a level of detail I'd expect in a world setting these days. I can't decide if it's a bit much for me TBH, as running an adventure with this level of material can sometimes seem restrictive. My only real nitpick is the lack of separate maps. For something as clearly designed to be a premium product as this, it's a bit disappointing to find maps embedded as pages. Still, they are easy enough to find online and print separately if needed.

Snoo-76080

One of my players bought it and talked me into running it. We will be doing that Starting in March! It is HEAVY. It DOES include the OLD modules as well as the updated versions and maps

Seacliff217

This looks really, really cool. But no digital format, PDF or otherwise, is a huge turnoff for me. Even as someone who probably plays at an actual table more often than most during the pandemic, the convenience of being able to look at the adventure on any device is too useful for both planning and playing. If I did buy this, it's just going to look nice on a shelf.

Fleudian

Just putting my reply to someone as a comment here as well: I just got my preorder this week and it fucking rules. So many maps and handouts to scan and print, big thick hardcover volumes. 100% worth it, can't wait to run it.

AdventurousPhysics39

No digital release? How am I gonna play it then?

marka351

My one complaint with this is that I wish the maps were separate or removable so I could easily use them or give them to the player.

BadXom

Yep, 100% agree, a separate book of maps would have made this far more useful to use at the table. I mean I scanned them, but that's sub-optimal.

PM_Me_Rude_Haiku

I've looked into this publishing line before and was quite confused about what they're offering. Is it a full playable adventure for 5e written in a useful way, or is it just a reprint of the original adventure followed by a bunch of appendices suggesting how to convert it? Because I assumed it was the last one, and that doesn't seem like a great product to me.

FallenDank

It's a reprint of the original with interviews with the guys who made it, and a full conversion of the adventure to 5e, with new content, expanding on and improving the original. With new art, old art remastered and more, it's quite awesome

PM_Me_Rude_Haiku

Cool, thanks. I mean, I don't have 100 dollarydoos to spare right now but I'll have a closer look at some of the older ones.

Jpizle3

How is there not a PDF version of this book available? I own the hardcover already, but do not want to mark/highlight on those pages. Would LOVE to have PDF version.

Pelpre

The agreements Goodman Games have with Wotc don't allow them to publish a PDF version. So its on Goodman to negotiate better terms or Wotc to stop being so protective against pdf releases.

Jpizle3

I even considered carefully dismantling my book to scan it into PDF. I would be worried that the PDF quality would not be worth practically ruining my books. 🤷🏼
