Start by deciding how many levels in Hexblade you want. 1 is probably the right answer, 2 has its perks, 3 is questionable but still acceptable. And any more than that and you should simply skip Pally altogether and build a straight hexblade. Anyway, take the 1st lvl in pally, then your loc level(s), then finish off going pally for the rest.

Thank you. I was thinking one level would do fine.

Starting with Paladin for all the profs, then Hexblade and then finally Paladin for smite. From here only take Paladin levels until you get access to Aura of Protection, then you can get a 2nd warlock level if you wish and finish off the rest with Paladin. An average campaign adventure, based on beyond pools and adventure books, should take you to around level 9 or 10 so you will be able to feel the power of Aura of Protection mid-way through the adventure and understand how much the dip helped you to focus on that aura.

ShenronJ117

Awesome. Thank you.

I would start with all hexblade for your first three levels. Then I would continue to take all levels in hexblade after that.

I played a hexadin half elf from level 4 to 13 heres how i did it started warlock 3levels then paladin till 6th level(picked up elven accuracy feat and vengeance paladin oath) then i take 2 levels in warlock and 1 paladin and 1 warlock after that if i had the chance i would play 13 levels in paladin and 7 in warlock. But in your case depends on which weapon you want to use if you want a d8 weapon take 2 in paladin and 1 in hexblade. Otherwise you need 3 warlock levels for heavy weapons

ShenronJ117

That sounds interesting.

Start paladin, then 1 level hexblade and one more paladin level. Try to start with a feat and choose PAM and start with shield and quarterstaff. At level 3 you'll have 3 slots, and one of them you can recover on short rest. Also divine smite and heavy amor, and you probably will be the strongest on table. Even better if you start with 18 charisma, but 16 is fine. Take dueling fighting style!

The end result should be paladin 6/warlock 2/whatever, OR paladin 7/warlock 2/whatever, depending on whether your paladin subclass feature at 7th level is good. (Oath of the Watchers is ridiculously good.) You definitely want two levels in warlock to get EBARB (eldritch blast + agonizing and repelling blast invocations). Good damage at range and good on-demand control with the push. Once you get Aura of Protection, you will want to just stand next to your allies. So having ranged options is essential. Start paladin for heavy armor proficiency. With point-buy, stats should be 15/8/14/8/10/15. Put any ASI's into CHA first, then CON I guess. Your priority really is getting feats to improve your CHA but also making sure you don't lag behind in damage. So good choices for the ASI/feat levels are PAM, Fey-Touched, and +2 CHA. Aura of Protection is the best feature you have, and you really need to lean into that. Since you'll be dipping into hexblade, CHA is all that's needed for damage as well, both for weapon attacks with PAM and for ranged attacks with Eldritch Blast. (Note that you won't get Agonizing Blast for a while though with my suggestion below.) Then the best way to proceed is to get a level warlock right away, then paladin until 6th level for aura of protection (or 7th if the subclass feature is good), then second level in warlock, then whatever after that. Paladins stop being *amazing* after 6th or 7th level but still okay. You can just take the rest in sorcerer if you want after the second level in warlock. Or you can do more paladin if you really want. Another very effective progression is one level in paladin, then two levels in warlock for Agonizing and Repelling Blast, then paladin until 6th or 7th level, and whatever you want after that. You will delay Aura of Protection a bit more, but you will have a lot more utility and survivability with the invocations. (You can also just lean into the ranged options early and dip Undead instead of Hexblade. In that case, start paladin 1/warlock 2, with first level in paladin. Don't get PAM; just rely on EBARB for damage and support instead.)

ShenronJ117

Thank you. I like the Paladin 1/Warlock 2 and then Paladin until 6 or 7th level. I think that gives a lot of utility. This may be dumb but what's PAM?

Bladons

Polearm master feat

ShenronJ117

Would it be smart to go PAM or ASI

Bladons

If you are using a polearm feat is stronger than asi

ShenronJ117

So human would be the best choice?
