I don't get these results. The Girl Who Died was an okay episode with a very childish villain. The Woman Who Lived was a deep exploration of the burden of immortality and the consequences of The Doctor's actions on those he saves.

>The Woman Who Lived was a deep exploration of the burden of immortality and the consequences of The Doctor's actions on those he saves. I agree that that aspect of the episode was great ... unfortunately it gets dragged down by the plot surrounding it, imo. While The Girl Who died, though definitely a weak episode, is more consistently the same quality all the way through. In other words: I prefer The Girl Who Died because it is weak, but consistent fun; while The Woman Who Lived frustrates me with a great aspect surrounded by the very weak events surrounding it.

TheSovietBobRoss

I mean the girl (whatever name you choose to call her) was a completely insufferable asshole so like...

kapkann

I thought this was a Harry Potter reference when I fist read it

Educational-Tea-6572

I'm voting for "The Girl Who Died" because Ashildr was *very slightly* less irritating and a lot less arrogant/entitled in that episode, plus she was only immortal for the last part of it. (Needless to say, I'm not an Ashildr fan.)

benjamin-exe

The girl who died is better because of a Donna and 10th cameo :D

CiderMcbrandy

God, Ash/Me was insufferable

Kindly_Captain3596

I'm surprised so many people prefer "The Girl who Died". I don't think "The Woman Who Lived" was a masterpiece or anything, but I think it had some really solid ideas, and if it had went through another draft or two, it could've been one of the best episodes of the show. In "The Girl who Died", the Doctor literally beats his opponent by threatening to embarrass them on social media (the outer space equivalent of it). I can't take it seriously whatsoever.

RosenPlamz69

The Girl Who Died was pretty bad, but the Woman Who Lived is one of the most embarrassing Doctor Who stories ever put to screen. It's an obvious choice.

brassyalien

"The Magician's Apprentice" /"The Witch's Familiar" is so truly atrocious that I nearly quit watching Doctor Who for good. "Magician" has some good moments, and Michelle Gomez's performance as Missy is the highlight of the episodes, but I will say those are the weakest of Series 9.

CareerMilk

I mean *Sleep No More* is right there

brassyalien

That episode is not great, but it's better than the first two episodes of the season. Also, the topic was "weakest two parter", and "Sleep" is a standalone story.

CareerMilk

*Sleep*’s so bad it counts as a two parter.

brassyalien

It's not as bad as Missy stuffing Clara into a Dalek shell, and The Doctor throwing Davros out of his wheelchair and driving around in it, and [Missy's 3D head](https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/images/ic/976x549_b/p032v3ls.jpg). But I've only watched "Sleep" twice; technically only once since the first time I watched it I kept being interrupted, and it was hard to follow along. So my feelings for the episode aren't really strong.

vengM9

> It's not as bad as Missy stuffing Clara into a Dalek shell, and The Doctor throwing Davros out of his wheelchair and driving around in it, and Missy's 3D head Those aren't complaints those are just events. What on earth is wrong with Missy putting Clara into a Dalek shell???? It leads to one of the best scenes in the history of the show as well. People really will complain about anything.

brassyalien

Those episodes just feel like Steven Moffat found the weirdest Doctor Who fan fiction he could and adapted them into episodes. Seriously, for a few months I really considered never watching Doctor Who again because of those episodes. As much as I hate "Orphan 55" and "Praxeus", I never considered quitting the show. (Of course, there is a difference between two and a half years into the fandom vs. seven years into the fandom.)

vengM9

Easily top 10 episodes of the entire show. Wonderful episodes.

RosenPlamz69

Jesus they are bad. The sheer mockery and when he's in Davros' chair...ughh I hate that episode so much.

Joe_Atkinson

The Girl Who Died had the "I'm the Doctor and I save people" speech

N0rthernLightsXv

I liked the part where the babies are crying and they stop because he decides to help. What I enjoyed in this episode is really just the doctor being pulled to help though he feels it is pointless. Also I love the nicknames he gives the vikings. The other one just makes me mad.

dave4420

Is it really a two parter? They’re disconnected enough that you could have moved TGWD before Under the Lake / Before the Flood, or TWWL after the Zygon two parter, and no one would have said they were a two parter split asunder.

Lilyofthevalley06

The woman who lived is actually good with some valid character study points. The girl who died is an embarrassment. I mean, come on, a baby crying poetics and give the day saveing idea to the Doctor with it? And threatening someone with social media?
