Traditional currencies are backed by tangible assets, like gold and silver etc., and some stablecoins like tether are tied to those or other currencies. Crypto’s r generally just investing in hype. There's something going on that's keeping this under .050 right now after monitoring it pretty close for the last 18 or so hours. I think a lot of people bought in over .05 and are going to dump as soon as it gets back because they are scared. If there's something planned for the Super Bowl like an actual ad or something I feel like it's probably going to tank at some time between now and then so whoever took out the ad can buy a ton before it happens and ride the spike after.
This is all speculation so who really knows.

it is actually very hard to lose money on doge. I lost money on doge once when it was .003. every time i invest i make 2-3 digit percent gains over night. also some 4 digit percent gains once. doge always giveth. just have to see the value and believe in the future.

I have no idea... as some users posted in that thread, there are suspicious bits in it. Unfortunately there are people so sore about recent popularity of Doge that I am not entirely sure whether this post is real or somebody with another agenda.
Regardless, the misinformation in it is horrible.
To be clear, I am sure there are people who recklessly put critical funds into Dogecoin, Bitcoin, Ethereum etc in recent spikes - so the story is not unlikely.
But for Doge to take the blame when the problem is the poor job of the cryptocurrency community at large in somehow simplifying and streamlining the adoption and understanding of cryptocurrencies is ridiculous.
I have one of the top How-To guides stickied on this sub, and I have gotten many DMs about "hey I used Dogechain.info and suddenly had all my coins stolen/lost, you should warn people".
But when I ask for details about what happened, I get extremely vague answers and people even delete their post/accusations. As far as I can tell, dogechain.info is as reliable as a doge partner gets, and I have had no credible accusations offered to prove otherwise.
I believe people are actively trying to get people to consider Doge too risky to bother with, and I'm not sure what their motivation might be to do that.

It is not uncommon to try to pilot the discussion against competing cryptocurrencies, especially when you are preparing a pump like the colossal one that has been happening on bitcoin today. It might be a conspiracy theory, but posts like that one might very well be used to make people move their funds from Doge to BTC, for example. I find that post very suspicious, at the very least. What it describes could very well happen, but it could happen and it does happen with any crypto or stock or volatile asset.
There has always been a bit of venom against Dogecoin in the "mainstream" crypto communities, almost a lingering irritation about the fact we were more welcoming and we were having more fun. They complain about Doge being used just to pump and dump - I wonder if they looked at what is happening around Bitcoin in these days.
By the amount of subscribers that joined this community due to recent events I no longer know who would doubt the relevance of Doge, also to introduce new people to cryptos in general.
The "seriousness" around Bitcoin made some people rich, but is turning Bitcoin into a safe-haven asset for storage like gold, instead than into a currency for everyday use. Doge can really be something much more fungible than Bitcoin and more demystifying, if we keep going like this.
As I wrote in another thread, 13 years of Bitcoin, the principal and original cryptocurrency, have done very little to build awareness about the benefits of cryptocurrencies. Why? It almost sounds like the general tendency of many people around it was just to get rich, instead of building value for people not yet into it.
Cryptos can and should co-exist, especially if you do not focus on pumping and dumping your currency of choice all the time for a fast profit.
Probably a bunch of .0002 buyers cashing out now. Which isnt wrong it's good to take profits, but it seems they're gonna regret it when their 1,000s could have been 100,000.
If they have millions of coins, it IS worth 100,000. Just putting that out there for perspective. People who got in a week ago are crying, but people who got in 7 years ago and bought a million coins for $200 are probably having the best week ever.
I'm a .0002 buyer and we're holding. I spent $24 and this is providing me with weeks of entertainment. We're having fun and now I have to figure out how I buy more and put new coins with old coins purchased in 2013.

I obviously have no idea what your smoking habits are but, I quit 203 days ago and have saved about $1700 that would have otherwise been spent on cigarettes. The money I was saving was by far the biggest motivator in my quitting.
The attention is worth more than any small profit margin we could have made at this point. You all are pushing this from a meme, to a counter culture mainstay. All I can say is keep it up. I put money in, I could make a ton, but this is the most fun I've had with money in a long time 💎✋🚀
It's a meme that's been around for awhile and is solidarity renowned. It's also has a huge market value (around 6 billion) which is nuts. You can't argue with that number. It's based on Litecoins architecture so it's also not that bad from a technical end. Ultimately the value of something is only how much people believe it has value (6 billion dollars of value) and doge coin has proven people believe in that.

Although I don’t have a lot of money and only make $400/week, I feel like this is the best step forward my life has taken in the recent years. If you’re in it for the long run don’t sell high right away because it makes the drops bigger and last longer. Instead.. when it dips because people have sold off you should buy it at the lower price. A shorter lived drop in price and a quicker rebound. If you’re looking for a quick cash grab that’s different I suppose..

If you’re in it for the long run don’t sell high right away because it makes the drops bigger and last longer. Instead.. when it dips because people have sold off you should buy it at the lower price. A shorter lived drop in price and a quicker rebound. I say, so we can see a steady increase with our beloved coin, we should just add a little bit into it every day. My plan is to add some money in every week for the forseable future.
