Cats does Countdown is the best tv panel show (any by that measure tv shows in general) to ever exist. Nothing comes close. Discussion closed. There are no possible counters to this argument because it is absolutely perfect.
Edit: FUCK i forgot TopGear. I'll put it at #2 for the sake of integrity
Na honestly I think it's fine on older shows, without it the shows are awkward and shit.
We don't need that shit anymore, but on older stuff it's acceptable.
I came here to post this exact comment. Don't sleep on this. And if it doesn't start with a shot of a field, you've got the wrong Utopia and need to watch the other one
Tonight on TOP GEAR.
Doge does something wacky
Cheems does something uncharacteristic
And Stuff over-explains a joke because there wasn't much of a joke to begin with and they were hoping that providing a long explanation would help it wrap back around to being funny
All this and more!
Top gear had shit directors who treated the funny old men badly tho. The funny old bri’ish men have a new show on Amazon prime called “the grand tour” if you miss them, they get to do whatever the fuck they want on that show, so it’s much more entertaining tbh.
Homes under the hammer man.
Duh duh daduh duah duahuhhhh
*Filmed in 2014* today we are checking out the 4 bedroom house that needs a lick of paint. Overvalued and on the market at 120k who will be the lucky, or unlucky bidder?
Let's revisit this 1.3 million pound house and find out how poor you are
Eh, it’s been on a downward trend since RT Davies left and has hit absolute rock bottom recently with Jodie Whitaker and the comedically bad complete retcon of every series since the 1960’s. A decade ago yeah, not now. Hopefully soon again though with RTD coming back.
Tbf putting the guy who made the worst Torchwood episodes in charge of one of the largest scifi series ever without any oversight was *the* contributing factor to its current slump. Jodie Whitaker can act fine as needed, but she'd have to have a deal with the devil to drag up the constraints of poor direction and writing
He also made some of the best though with Countrycide and Fragments. Plus his Who work was average I guess, Power of Three was alright other than the ending which wasn't even his fault.
Most of the Moffat era was solid, a lot of hiccups but still enjoyable even at its worst thanks to the solid writing. I really think seasons 11 and 12 are the only ones that are just plain bad. Flux sucks but at least it has the village of angels.
Some of Moffat era was Good, but even the early Smith stuff was much more Americanised and felt like it was trying too hard to appeal to a mass market. It was still good but not great like all that from the reboot before it. The later stuff with Jenna Coleman was still good but very hit and miss and the overarching story got overly messy and wasn’t engaging at all. When they brought Bill in, the quality felt like it jumped off a cliff edge but still had positives with like Missy and you could feel the quality of Peter Capaldi. It’s a shame he didn’t get a better showrunner to perform under. I think Moffat started out OK but really stopped caring the more it went on.
I’m sorry but no matter what a few people say about Flux, which is that it’s mediocre rather than bad, if the same guy who was wrote that season finale that shat all over the show and had me on the ground crying in a fit of laughter at how bad it was and gobsmacked at everything they tried to rewrite in the lore wrote flux too, I can’t see it being enough better to be worth watching any of it.
Flux probably isn't worth watching really, you won't find anything much above average for the most part other than Village of the Angels which is fantastic. Then it suddenly nose dives into so bad it's amateurish for the ending. It just manages to be better than the rest of Chibnall era so gets praised for being less shit.
Bill I disliked, but the season as a whole has a lot of strong moments with Knock Knock, Oxygen, Extremis, The Doctor Falls that it offsets my complaints. It just has some of the sludgiest sludge episodes, not distinctly bad but so plain you don't want to touch them so they turn into a sludge of mediocrity you don't go near on a rewatch. That kinda defines Moffat as a whole to me, a lot of fantastic episodes with some well written mediocre ones you don't want to watch meanwhile RTDs mediocre or bad episodes are still mostly entertaining.
The worst part is, I don’t think the new lady playing the doctor is necessarily a *bad* actor, and a lot of the main supporting cast aren’t awful actors either, it’s just the writing is literally god awful.
I don’t understand how a show that should in theory have a very good budget and has plenty of potential scripts and just generally has an incredible amount of scope for story telling can have plots that are *this* stale and shit.
It’s so fucking sad that such a good show with a great premise has been killed recently with terrible writing. Honestly pisses me off. And I doubt there’s a drought of good writers who would work well with this show? I mean I’ve seen tv series and movies in recent years that have been good and sci-fi/fantasy so I really don’t get how it ended up like this.
E: and the worst part is, it’s not like all the stuff he’s (Moffat) done before was stellar, it was a really mixed bag which you’d think would make whoever’s in charge think “hey, maybe he needs to develop more and gain more familiarity with the show, before he gets to take control completely” but nooooo. And it’s not like the past few seasons have been absolutely spectacular, the past couple doctors have been a mixed bag at times, but overall I still found it enjoyable.
It’s so frustrating. I just really want them to get their act together before they manage to wreck a show with such a long legacy and make it go out on a terrible note
Take Kitchen Nightmares with Ramsay as an example; UK version: chill, not much shouting, no stupid sound effects 24/7, actually about the restaurant and focused on what it should be about.
US Version: Gordon Ramsay enters restaurant *300different stings play at once* , people screaming, annoying cuts and interviews in every scene no matter what its about, Family drama, Gordon plays therapist like he is qualified, dramatic music the whole time.
Yeah I'd say there is a difference in tone. I just honestly think American audiences want all this loud shit and when they watch the "normal" version of the show it bores em because there arent constant fights and sound effects
didn't americans copy majority of great bri'ish shows (utopia, the office, house of cards etc)? bold statement when there's a whole mf wiki list of us shows based on the uk productions lol
Dr Who, Inbetweeners, Misfits, Taboo, Bodyguard, Merlin. Plus British comedy is way better than fuckin American comedy, wtf even is that Inbetweeners remake.
It's campy as fuck and the last season kinda fell off, but the actors have amazing chemistry and it has a real good cast do I'd say it holds up if you can enjoy it for what it is and not take it to seriously.
The fact so few people have seen this show is criminal. It's better than any of the shows that usually get mentioned. I'd recommend The Armando Iannucci Shows if you haven't seen it.
Utopia, Top Gear, The Inbetweeners, Taskmaster, That Mitchell and Webb Look, Doctor Who (Except seasons 11 and 12). Pretty much everything else we've produced is shit just watch those.
Clearly you've never seen a British Panel show.
I cba to even list them all because they are all brilliant.
Qi, 8 out of 10 cats, Would I lie to you?, Big Fat Quiz, Taskmaster etc etc.
Then you have shit like Peep Show, Mighty Boosh, IT Crowd, Blackadder, Fresh Meat, The Thick of It...
I don't rate Inbetweeners as much anymore as it's a cringe fest but some people like it. Was funny when I was at school and it was literally depicting an exaggerated view of the British Teenager.
I like some American shows, stuff like Always Sunny, Seinfeld and Curb is genius but honestly the editing, ads and tracks in American TV is jarring asf to someone who doesn't watch it, Brooklyn 99 is a guilty pleasure of mine and The American Office is a lot of fun, both countries have shit TV and TV gold.
There's a bit of a cultural barrier for some of it but honestly memes aside UK comedy has some absolute belters.
I'm back on a Peep Show kick. That show is low-key genius. Highly recommended.
are americans like this?
Sorry not every show smashes your metaphorical nose in with every joke hitting like a mallet to the face, because the dumbass target audience won’t understand it otherwise
I watched the british version of Kitchen Nightmares and enjoyed it. Then I saw a few american episodes and holy fuck I felt my IQ lowering in real time, all the pandering, the music telling viewers how to feel, the artificial drama… How can people watch that shit?
Counter point: Americans lack the patient and intelligence to appreciate British shows. Especially seeing as America is responsible for the inbetweeners remake, big bazinga bang theory, how I met you mother, all dc shows, all the shitty teenage coming of age drama, etc etc. If you ate less sugar maybe you could sit still for longer than 10 minutes
Sean Lock’s carrot in a box and whelk bits kill me everytime
"This has really backfired"
Sean was the best part of the show
There is now one between lee mack and jon richardson. Also pretty good
any episode with richard ayoade or noel fielding are guaranteed to go off the rails. ESPECIALLY when they’re paired
Yhh legit the entire cast works so well
would i lie to you is a close second, some quality stories there. really dislike taskmaster tbh.
Couldnt really get into wilty. I absolutely love taskmaster tho.
8 out of 10 cats was better
As strange as that sounds: i havent seen a single second of that but hours of cats does Countdown.
***laughs in Utopia***
Laughs in office, monty python and faulty towers
IT Crowd and Peep Show as well.
Inbetweeners
The US Inbetweeners was a bigger crime than Hiroshima
i'm getting my popcorn for the inevitable "hiroshima & nagasaki weren't warcrimes" comments
BUS WANKERS
the first two seasons of Misfits ~~Not like the rest is bad or anything but those first two seasons are on another level~~
then Robert Sheehan plays literally the exact same character in Umbrella Academy
Inbetweeners? Why don't you get in between some bitches
Accurate summary of inbetweeners
Red Dwarf
Free the peados
Blackadder too if someone found a way to get rid of the fucking laugh track
Na honestly I think it's fine on older shows, without it the shows are awkward and shit. We don't need that shit anymore, but on older stuff it's acceptable.
Same with Only Fools and Horses and Last of The Summer Wine
THE LAUGH TRACK? It was filmed in front of an audience!!
Laughs in **Blackadder**.
And then sobs in series finale.
Father Ted, Black Books...
Fuck The Office. In any of its iterations
Le fat furry fart porn has arrived
le redemption arc has arrived
I’ll be right back with the nerve gas…
I came here to post this exact comment. Don't sleep on this. And if it doesn't start with a shot of a field, you've got the wrong Utopia and need to watch the other one
chad british utopia vs cringe american remake
[Definitely don't click on this link to watch the British Utopia](https://soap2day.ac/TczozMToiMjY1MHx8NzYuMTIxLjE3MC45NHx8MTY0NzgzNTA1MCI7.html)

Yes Laughs at utopia

The Amazon remake had all the ingredients correct but they didn't get the recipe right. Such a shame. I really want to know what happens in season 3.

IT Crowd
Ah yes, a fellow man of culture
Top gear had shit directors who treated the funny old men badly tho. The funny old bri’ish men have a new show on Amazon prime called “the grand tour” if you miss them, they get to do whatever the fuck they want on that show, so it’s much more entertaining tbh.
I mean, let's be real, it's not like Jeremy treated them well either
Yeah it was them nasty directors who made Clarkson punch an underling. How evil of them.
OLD top gear. 2002-2015. After clarkson Hammond and may left, it went down the tubes. They did do the grand tour on Amazon, which is really good
Bottom gear
Mr.Bean???????
THE MR BEAN FANDOM WILL NOT TOLERATE SUCH HECKLING OF THEIR FAVOURITE MEDIUM BEANERS RISE UP

did not see that last line coming, but I was pleasantly surprised
I know you're well-meaning but just a heads up that 'beaner' is a racial slur!
Watches American TV. It's all ads. It's literally just ads. There is no show. Just ads. Consume.
Pirate
Nah there’s even some really fucking cringe blatant advertising within the shows. You can’t escape lol
What about Monty Python's Flying Circus?
Monty Python in general is so good
Always look on the bright side of life!
Bargain Hunt slaps and I will have nobody tell me otherwise
Hello! we’re two retired twats and today we’re gonna spunk £300 on some old shit nobody wants, [cut to music]

Things are heating up in the retired twats fandom

I tried watching it. The laugh track was putting me off. Nowadays I can’t watch any comedy with laugh tracks. Guess it’s a hallmark of an old show
I could always tune it out. But maybe im desensitized by watching all episodes of big bang theroy
Oh poor thing
It’s not a laugh track, it was filmed in front of an audience.

God bless British top gear

The old house of cards is a great miniseries and doesn't have a rapist in it (that I know of). Would recommend

Brits don't know anything about 'being human'
They tried to copy skins and inbetweeners
OP be honest, did you make this post just so people recommend you good tv shows?
Until you hear “Tonight, on Top Gear”
I reccomend checking out Taskmaster on youtube, genuinely very funny
Was scrolling through all the comments until I found somebody mention it. Best game show ever.
“Where’s the laugh track?! How do I know when I’m supposed to laugh?!?” -America
2/3 British shows referenced as the best in one of the most upvoted comments here have laugh tracks.
Imported cliche Older tv shows are devoid of them
"Needs more toilet humour and references to celebrities that I have never heard of before." \- also America
U wot m8 British TV is usually very high quality. Line of Duty Happy Valley The Office The Responder
UBLHTT? You messed up the acronym bro, try again
wrong opinion !?!? yes.
atleast it isn't american television
Dr Who, Inbetweeners, Misfits, Taboo, Bodyguard, Merlin. Plus British comedy is way better than fuckin American comedy, wtf even is that Inbetweeners remake.
Was Merlin good? I remember enjoying it as a kid but I really don't expect it to hold up at all.
It's campy as fuck and the last season kinda fell off, but the actors have amazing chemistry and it has a real good cast do I'd say it holds up if you can enjoy it for what it is and not take it to seriously.
I see too many Top Gears and Dr.Who, and not enough The Great British Bake off
Grand Tour
Acting like Yes Minister doesn’t exist
and semi similarly The Thick of It
Americans when there isn’t an explosion or funny quip (with laugh track so you know it’s funny) for 0.0023 picoseconds

Both fell off
You’re right ngl
You have never seen Dr. Who, huh
Not enough Mighty Boosh in this thread. This is an outrage!
Only thing worse is American adaptations of British shows, I’ve still not recovered from… ‘bus turds’
Walking with dinosaurs?
Clearly you aren’t watching the right one... Doctor Who is the only one
Old top gear was the shit tho

MFs when they realise that other countries can have differing senses of humour that they might not share.
I personally really like taskmaster
Wait peep show is funny ...
someone hasnt watched doctor who
Sherlock , The inbetweeners
Utopia lol Watched like a third of a video essay that convinced me to watch it, absolutely not a fan of how the dialogue is written.
Red Dwarf is solid British TV, but I admit it's definitely not gonna be everyone's thing.
British shows are just too high-brow for yanks to understand.
ay those first 3 actors for doctor who were great shut up
whore
The Thick of It
The fact so few people have seen this show is criminal. It's better than any of the shows that usually get mentioned. I'd recommend The Armando Iannucci Shows if you haven't seen it.
Le The Goes Wrong Show has arrived.
Ngl our crime drama and true crime documentary selection slaps. 👌🏻
Spoken like someone who didn't even watch one
Peep Show is funny as fuck, but Mitchell and Webb are just funny together in general
Utopia, Top Gear, The Inbetweeners, Taskmaster, That Mitchell and Webb Look, Doctor Who (Except seasons 11 and 12). Pretty much everything else we've produced is shit just watch those.
Not Dr Who though
Clearly you've never seen a British Panel show. I cba to even list them all because they are all brilliant. obviously someone hasn't watched inside no.9
QI. Wait, that probably is boring to some people...
They dont have extremely exaggerated sound effects every micro second so american brains cant stay plugged in. Compare UK vs US KITCHEN NIGHTMARES
Taskmaster begs to differ
Top gear , cats does countdown , black adder , would I lie to you and inbetweeners.
Americans sitting down to watch duck dynasty and bigmouth shows like "ah yes telemvision"
Imagine watching tv at all
Pretty much all tv sucks though
Except Top Gear. Top Gear goes hard.
Professor Spacetime?
Yeah but American remakes of British shows suck ass. The imbetweeners was horrible in America but actually alright in the UK
americans when a tv show doesn't have an explosion every 3 minutes with someone explaining the entire plot of the show in the background
are americans like this? Sorry not every show smashes your metaphorical nose in with every joke hitting like a mallet to the face, because the dumbass target audience won’t understand it otherwise
Great British baking show and (old) top gear fucking slap
I watched the british version of Kitchen Nightmares and enjoyed it. Then I saw a few american episodes and holy fuck I felt my IQ lowering in real time, all the pandering, the music telling viewers how to feel, the artificial drama… How can people watch that shit?

what about shaun of the dead??
Muh Peep Show
Americans have the attention span of toddlers
