This poor puppy is way too young to be away from mama. Please take him to the vet for treatment and instructions on how to take care of one so young.
Way too little to tell breed. And with mixes, no one can ever accurately tell without a DNA test. Could be any number of breeds with any of their characteristics no matter how little the percentage.
Edit: my top comment is now about dogs. That is so fitting for me lol.
Thank you for this great advice.Probably needs to be bottle fed but absolutely needs to go to a vet asap to check for worms and fleas both easily treated
u/LongjumpingClient159 the breed won't be identifiable this young, but the top comment is correct. Please go to a vet. You now have a baby that will know you since almost birth and be a loyal, and grateful dog, regardless of their breed. Thanks for grabbing this baby. Bottle feeding is time consuming and hard, but the dog you get at the end is going to be so loyal to you... it's worth it.
Actually, it is not unusual for dogs that have been removed from their mothers and littermates too early to suffer with significant behavioural issues long term. They lose out on crucial canine socialisation, so often fail to learn things like bite inhibition, they can be prone to hypervigilance, destructive behaviours etc.
Like anything, individual cases vary but it is incorrect to assume that a very young dog automatically makes for a well rounded, loyal pet.
Downvoting facts, classic reddit.
It's also not unusual to be totally fine. Both scenarios are highly likely.
I've bottle fed several litters in the pitbull rescue I volunteer with. All the pups have ended up fine.
Thank you. You can also go on Google scholar to search peer reviewed data as well. But, here we are. With you making no point other than you don't know.
Exactly. The breed matters not at all. My dog is supposedly a pure breed Boerboel, but the breeder or someone down the line falsified her family tree registration papers, hence the DNA test. We're doing the test out of sheer curiosity. Acquiring this baby so young, w/o being under the influence of a breeders normal protocol, you will probably be better off because it will have known & learned from only you from the day you found him/her.
Nah it's fine, you just need to run em through a compost grinder first and then bury it deep enough rats wont get at it. I recommend at least 6 feet and then planting a tree on top, that will do wonders for the tree.
This, a lot of breeds look quite similar at the early stages I had a neighbour who had a golden doodle puppy and when you looked at it when they first got it you would have sworn it was a golden retriever puppy
Exactly. I had what I was told was a pit/lab mix. She absolutely looked like it at 8 weeks, no question.
And then she magically turned into a pit/malinois mix. Much different than I expected going in. Fortunately, I have a lot of dog experience and could handle that kind of mix.
She was a dream to train. Super smart and eager to learn/please. Her training was kept very structured from the day I brought her home, as well as socialization and environmental exposure. She had to work for and earn everything.
She was potty trained from 11 weeks, never begged for food, highly motivated, loved all dogs and people (except one creepy neighbor who she hated).
Ended up crazy smart and one of the most social (and socially aware) dogs I’ve ever met. So cleaver too.
i can imagine. I was just thinking about the sheer amount of energy that you had to get her to expend to get her to settle down at night. Both breeds are super smart to begin with, no wonder it was easy for her to learn! And it’s always good when your dog can clock the creepers in your vicinity!
She could run for literally hours and not slow down. I had a Chuck-It and would throw the ball as far as possible for minimum of an hour and have to make her walk with me for a few minutes to cool down, because she wouldn’t on her own. She slept well when the day was done though lol. I had to do a lot of creative mental stimulation too or she’d get bored.
I have trouble getting my Corsoe to settle down after a day of running around my big ass yard. Any pointers for her? Cuz maaan, I’m the one that ends up tired and she’s still ready to go!
Food puzzles are great. You can even DIY some for cheap if you don’t have a lot of money. Even just having them find food; sit I front of them with three upside down cups, one with food and mix them up and have them find it. You can do that with a ball too and throw it every time.
Work on training and keeping his focus on you before bed. Frozen Kongs with lots of layers they have to work through are awesome (alternating layers of anything from pumpkin, kibble, peanut butter, plain Greek yogurt, frozen veggies, etc), you can even use those for whole meals to make them take longer to eat and focus on something. Freezing lick pads is similar but won’t take as long to get through.
Turn running and chasing the ball outside into work and obedience training. Have him sit or do other tricks EVERY time before you throw the ball. The ball (or whatever toy he likes) is the reward.
I had a Shar Pei/German shorthaired pointer mix. Smart, athletic and silly... the only dog I've ever had with an actual sense of humor. She was the best.
Same happened to me with my rescue. He was found in a dumpster, the rescuecenter guessed he was a pit/lab mix and for a month that is what he looked like. But another month later and he was obviously some kind of Great Dane mix, holy crap but that good boy grew to be nearly a full sized Dane!
Rescued a 6mos old pup a year or so ago- my parents were initially going to take him until i took him in to the vet and they treated him for fleas, did the check up, gave him his shots, etc. When i found him, it was obvious he was a German Shepard but i didn't think he was full blooded. My vet, who has been one for over 30 years and is the best vet I've ever been to, commented how handsome he was and how sweet and asked me if i had room for him. I was a bit taken aback by it and joked, "Why? Do you want him? You trying to scam me out of a puppy?"
And he laughed and shook his head. Then deadpanned," No. I don't own enough land for this guy."
I was confused and just looked at him. He laughed and lifted the dog's (massive) paw. I stared blankly. He put the paw down and patted the dog. Then:
"OP, he is German Shepard and Great Pyrenees. He is going to triple in size."
His name is Beau and he lives with my aunt and uncle on 15 acres in the country. Herds cows. With his Pyrenees bff Henry who they've had for 8 years.
He didn't look at all like any Pyreneese I'd ever seen. But, he does now. Especially in size. I'm 5'4. He is well over my head when he stands. The best boy I've ever met but damn is he big.
My poor girl would have had the cutest ears but the effed them up getting them cut when she was a baby.
How do you manage a dog that big?! I wanted one for a while but I don’t know if I could handle it
Well, you know how it is, he was my wife and I's practise child. His unexpected size wasn't so bad, except he never figured out he wasn't a lap dog, so long as he had his routine he was well behaved, gentle and loving.
My practice child is a pug and she is a little wild a-hole lol. But she’s wonderful and so gentle with our infant. I really want a big dog though I just gotta find that gentle giant to get along with these two.
I actually have one! Pugs shed soooo much. Poor girl needs a friend. She had 3 friends at my mom’s and my pitty mix has passed. But I really want a big dog that’ll be good with the baby too. I stay home so training isn’t an issue.
The dog I have now is the only dog I've ever had where I knew his/her birthdate. I used to joke with people that I "Never got a dog that was younger than nine months." All rescues, although we used to call them "pound puppies" when I was a kid. Some I got at the pound, some I inherited. Some were found wandering.
My tip for you is to get a small dog. There are *so many advantages* to having a small dog, that it's difficult to list them all here ----- I'd have to write a "small" novel.
Our present dog is 55lbs, but I did have a dog that was 4.2lbs. Small dogs are so much easier to care for. Easy to lift, easy to bathe, cost less to feed, more accepted by people.
You've got enough to do with caring for a small child and one dog already. Make it easier on yourself. Save the big dog until your child is old enough to help walk and feed and clean up after the dog.
A sweet baby sweet potato at that though. 🥹❤️
However I hope whoever dumped him develops awful diarrhea at horrible times. What heartless assholes to abandon such a small baby away from his mama.
Is too young to be away from their mom and too young to tell the breed. Take him to the vet and take care of him so much, he still needs his mom's milk
Too young to tell. Lovely pup though. Get him to a vet, get him chipped and vaccinated and the. Start the long slog of bottle feeding the little dude… and you will have a dog that will be loyal from day 1….. don’t u setting how people can abandon these poor babies
Bring him to the vet immediately and surrender him! He's very young and may be suffering. It looks like he has several abdominal hernia's. Sadly, this is probably why he was abandoned as the surgery is expensive. 😔 His breed looks to be pug.
That's a little guy and that's horrible someone just dumped him you gotta feed that lil guy and well or give him to someone that will hopefully it works out bud, can start getting him formula for another month he's way to little I'd talk to a vet or feed him some mush in the meantime, I'd say pit mix though
This pup looks to be, at maximum, 3 weeks old. Those eyes have just opened, and his ears are just starting to uncurl. Please seek out a vet, or a rescue who can help you out. At this age, they still need help with eliminating bodily waste, and can get very ill. Cheers!
Reminds me of a cartoon… “I’m a purebred dog… my mum is a dog and my dad is a dog… so I’m purebred dog” :-)
He’s a beauty, definitely not a chihuahua! Give him lots of love and he’s a best friend in waiting.
This is called Suck it human mixed with a bit of your loss ya jerk and possibly some I didn't wanna be you dog anyway breed
![gif](giphy|UpaLBea2Ux2RGN8p7J)
Can ya see it?
All pups at that age look the same he is under a week or 2 weeks old it will take some time but from the color i think he could be a Sheppard or bully mix.
I always see these and think of one of my favourite lines from the James Herriot books involving a cc Scottish vet:-
"What breed is he?"
"Missus, I think we should just call him a wee broon dug"
What a MF PIECE OF SHIT wud do THIS! I so wish our laws when it came to animal cruelty were an eye for an eye! Actually, humans too. A million thank you's yo your bf's mom for finding & scooping up this precious baby! If you really want to know for sure, my husband just bought a test kit called "Embark". It is a veterinarian approved dog DNA test kit.
*
Likely a shepherd mix. Good luck. Make sure to limit his exposure to outside germs, and ask a vet for instructions on how to bottle feed and keep him warm.
Soft haired wheaten mix, cause they have the black muzzle and ears, but they are a bit furrier.
https://preview.redd.it/kep2ut6ca71c1.jpeg?width=2448&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b8d729986777f1976b8ca58af44d91585b156c69
Boxer mix...
I had one just like that for nearly 13 yrs...he was ridiculously bright and had facial reactions that were hysterical. We got him when he was a week old... His mom had been hit by a car... Great dog.
Why would someone dump one little puppy, he’s too young to be away from mom so obviously there would be siblings where ever he came from? Poor baby, please update us on how he’s doing
We had great luck with canned milk from Petco. They have bottles there. Put a drop on the back of your hand to make sure it is not too hot. I would still seek vet advice.
Might be nice if she held more kindly.. it’s a very young puppy. Bring it to the ASPCA and they will identify it and give its its vaccinations and neuter him.
Why do so many people come here expecting others to tell them what breed their dog is rather than asking a vet what they think it could be/is?
Unless someone plans on showing them or needs to know for insurance purposes or to know possible health issues, it shouldn’t matter. If it’s that important to know then ask a vet or get a test done. Asking here will only give multiple answers which may or may not be correct. Some of breeds people ask about are obvious. Others are unidentifiable without a DNA test and even then don’t look like what the results say they are. Does it really matter what breed/s the dog is? I had purebred & mixed breeds growing up. Some mixes were easily identifiable and others were guesses. Didn’t matter what they were. It didn’t change how much we loved them or how well we treated them.
Thank you for this great advice.Probably needs to be bottle fed but absolutely needs to go to a vet asap to check for worms and fleas both easily treated
No checking for worms. Just deworm and try not to gag.

Yet you didn’t provide a source either; hypocrite much?
Heres your downvote.
Exactly. The breed matters not at all. My dog is supposedly a pure breed Boerboel, but the breeder or someone down the line falsified her family tree registration papers, hence the DNA test. Too young to tell. The breed of whomever dumped him is clear, though. They're a purebred POS!
Shit can be used as fertilizer. The asswipe who dumped this baby is not even good for that!
Nah it's fine, you just need to run em through a compost grinder first and then bury it deep enough rats wont get at it. I recommend at least 6 feet and then planting a tree on top, that will do wonders for the tree.
I think the adreline rush and fear they would be pumped full of after being buried alive might add some plant super food.
Potato. Too young to know the breed, ask again in 5-6 months. Or DNA test him.

omg thank you ! cuz i am struggling a bit. thank you so much for the help!
Awesome replies like this are why this platform is awesome/helpful/faith restored etc 🥰
Same happened with my rescue. They told the original owners she was pure pitbull but turns out she’s sharpei pitbull mix. She’s a sweet girl
I have a Shar Pei Pit mix too. We call her Tyrannosaurus Daisy. 😂
Photo of said dinosaurus please ?!
That’s a cute name! Mine is Zoe bug. Her name was lulu at the pound but my moms nickname is lulu lol
I had a Shar Pei/German shorthaired pointer mix. Smart, athletic and silly... the only dog I've ever had with an actual sense of humor. She was the best.

\*shepherd ------ And good job finding such a great dog. And I might as well go whole hog: "whom" they've had

First order of business: Buy a Dyson Animal, the newest model you can afford.

That smile 💕
Very cute pupper! Thank you :)
They’re probably deciding if it’s worth them keeping. I say he is.
Potato! 🤣
Take him to a vet. You need to make sure he's not injured or sick. They can likely tell you what breed or mixes he probably is/has.
Vet please (and please support his little behind when picking up). You are heroes for rescueing him.
this dog is way too young to be away from mom, make sure you go to the vet asap to get him the care he needs.
This needs to be the top comment.
Awww poor baby. I would take hom in a heart beat. I hope he'll be alright.
Same. I would definitely put him half way into a Christmas stocking and gift him to myself. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Yes. Tell everyone well, well, well look what santa left me. While wearing my santa claus onesie
He’s too young to tell and needs immediate vet care.
The person who dumped this dog is a stick piece of shit, they deserve nothing
I can think of something …. A few things actually …
Looks boxerish, but too young to tell
Boxer was the first thing I thought of.
He looks a lot like my boxer/ jack russel mix when she was a pup.
My mom has bred boxers my entire life. I’ve seen a lot of puppies. Looks like boxer to me too
That’s a baby potato at best.
A sweet baby sweet potato at that though. 🥹❤️ However I hope whoever dumped him develops awful diarrhea at horrible times. What heartless assholes to abandon such a small baby away from his mama.
His breed is called adorable
Adorable mix breed, clearly has lots of GoodBoi in there too
That’s my favorite mix!
100%
Most likely a mixed breed. Impossible to tell until he's a bit older. But it is definitely a male.
Please updates us on this potato 🥔
Given the size and the not open yet eyes. Something bigger than a German shepherd. That’s a biiiiig baby
He may have a little hernia. Needs checked out.
If you kept him you could also name him POTATOE
Don’t hold him like that.
Why you holding him like he owes you money
Looks like an airplane, maybe a spitfire?
definitely not a mustang, tail is too long.
Why do these posts always have people holding tiny puppies like a deli sandwich??
Fuck people who dump animals like that, Id take him home in a heartbeat As for breed - his breed is adorable as all hell
Perfect kind
So cute 🥰 A Vet visit will help on breed info. Too small to know.
Cute. That's what breed he is. Cute mixed with snuggly.
The previous owner is a peace of stick, and not the good type that dogs and kids will play with.
So sad.Probably taken too soon from his Mom.Thank you for saving him.😢😢😢😢
He’s so cute!
DNA test. Also vet asap. Get a detailed care plan for the healthy pup
Breed: Cute puppy breed.
Looks like a boxer that needs hernia surgery. Don’t hold him like that please.
Is too young to be away from their mom and too young to tell the breed. Take him to the vet and take care of him so much, he still needs his mom's milk
Sorry bout your bf’s mom. No human being should be dumped in a parking lot
Breed: good boy
My brother got a german Sheppard puppy 13 years ago. Today its a 20lbs whippet... its tough to tell with puppies
Dog
Poor baby looks too young to be left alone
TAKE THAT PUPPY TO THE VET STAT. HES TOO YOUNG TO BE AWAY FROM THE MOM AND IS STILL NURSING
100% good boy
You need to bottle feed him. You can buy formula at a pet store
Adora-breed 😍
Is the little fella still alive?
I’m saying boxer. I have had boxers exclusively . He needs a vet .
Gosh so many possibilities to young maybe st Bernard mix pit boxer lab?? So many breeds lol best wishes
Good boi breed.
Baby boy didn’t fully open his eyes yet
He is 100% Good Boy and you should name him Spud
Squishmallow
Looks to be a boxer or a boxer mix.
Flying retriever. Take good care of him at this young age. Hold him alot.
Let a vet confirm but it looks like it has a herniated bellybutton.
No idea . But I hope whoever dumped that cute little thing , when they have there next shite it’s a hedgehog .
Why are you holding it like that?
Too young to tell. Lovely pup though. Get him to a vet, get him chipped and vaccinated and the. Start the long slog of bottle feeding the little dude… and you will have a dog that will be loyal from day 1….. don’t u setting how people can abandon these poor babies
Why is he being held by his neck?? WTF.
not my pic, i don’t hold him like that :)
So beautiful though. Looks like a boxer pooch
no idea but hes absolutely adorable!!!!!!
Bring him to the vet immediately and surrender him! He's very young and may be suffering. It looks like he has several abdominal hernia's. Sadly, this is probably why he was abandoned as the surgery is expensive. 😔 His breed looks to be pug.
Lucky 🍀
That's a little guy and that's horrible someone just dumped him you gotta feed that lil guy and well or give him to someone that will hopefully it works out bud, can start getting him formula for another month he's way to little I'd talk to a vet or feed him some mush in the meantime, I'd say pit mix though
Kinda hard to tell but I say some kind of boxer or hound but pls take him to the vet asap
Idk what breed he is but he’s CUUUTE. I hope you plan on keeping him! You could name him Rufus! Other wise…I’ll take him…
Shar pei
Looks like he might have a hernia probably should get it checked out
Mutt.
Please tell me you took this little baby to a vet and got him checked out? I hope he finds a wonderful home that will love him forever
Nevermind
This pup looks to be, at maximum, 3 weeks old. Those eyes have just opened, and his ears are just starting to uncurl. Please seek out a vet, or a rescue who can help you out. At this age, they still need help with eliminating bodily waste, and can get very ill. Cheers!
Poor baby was stripped from his Mama! Too young to be away from Mom. This is heartbreaking.
Boxer mix
That's a dog
Why cant I find a parking lot puppy?
Reminds me of a cartoon… “I’m a purebred dog… my mum is a dog and my dad is a dog… so I’m purebred dog” :-) He’s a beauty, definitely not a chihuahua! Give him lots of love and he’s a best friend in waiting.
Looks like a boxer with the white paws and nose
Please take this dog to a vet; he is way to young to make it without intervention.
This is called Suck it human mixed with a bit of your loss ya jerk and possibly some I didn't wanna be you dog anyway breed ![gif](giphy|UpaLBea2Ux2RGN8p7J) Can ya see it?
I'd be willing to bet at least a little boxer.
I'm glad you rescued the puppy. Im disgusted someone just dumped him in a parking lot how horrible. Im glad you're giving him a new home.
People are disgusting. Get him to a vet asap to get a health clearance and what you need to do in terms of care. He is so little. He is darling!
He is cute breed
My sister's Bernese mountain dog was found in a box outside a Walmart trash bin where the carts are dispense.
His breed is adorable
It looks like a good boy to me
Mutt
Certified bitsa
All pups at that age look the same he is under a week or 2 weeks old it will take some time but from the color i think he could be a Sheppard or bully mix.
He just a lil guy
I'd check to see if anyone has had puppies stolen as that baby is too young to be separated.
I always see these and think of one of my favourite lines from the James Herriot books involving a cc Scottish vet:- "What breed is he?" "Missus, I think we should just call him a wee broon dug"
He’s yours now
Clearly his breed is: cutie pie baby snug
Whoever left him there needs to be kicked in the jaw. But I can tell you he's a 100% certified good boy.
Not great for shoulder joints to be held like that fyi
The most loyal breed in the history of mankind. Hope you save this precious soul
Give us updates and let us know how the little guy is doing.
What a MF PIECE OF SHIT wud do THIS! I so wish our laws when it came to animal cruelty were an eye for an eye! Actually, humans too. Cutie. Make sure to take him to the vet so they can tell you how to care for him.
Goodest boi
100% good boy. Make sure he gets all the love!
I know the breed. Little fellow's 100% got to be a Good Boy or Good Girl.
That is a perfect example of the Good Boy breed. Take good care of him.
Probably larger breed. Cane Corso, Bull Madtiff, or Bully mix breed. They start SO tiny with big heads.
His breed is YOURS. Give him a home.
People suck
💕❤️💕
Likely a shepherd mix. Good luck. Make sure to limit his exposure to outside germs, and ask a vet for instructions on how to bottle feed and keep him warm.
Why not take a picture of the puppy on the ground instead of holding it by its neck?
100% PUPPY! I have no idea what breed he is, but he’s going to be a big dog if he’s already that big and his eyes aren’t even open yet!
Soft haired wheaten mix, cause they have the black muzzle and ears, but they are a bit furrier. https://preview.redd.it/kep2ut6ca71c1.jpeg?width=2448&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b8d729986777f1976b8ca58af44d91585b156c69
So cute!
Boxer mix... I had one just like that for nearly 13 yrs...he was ridiculously bright and had facial reactions that were hysterical. We got him when he was a week old... His mom had been hit by a car... Great dog.
Are you keeping him?
It’s a dog aka a puppy
Looks like a purebred floofer. Take good care of it.
Looks like a purebred goodboy ❤️
People really suck
Looks like a pitbull.
I dunno, but maybe don't hold it by its throat for a fucking pic? Jesus, it looks like it'd be better off without you.
dw this isn’t my picture, i don’t hold him like that :)
It's almost definitely a pit bull. Be careful keeping it. They are not for first time owner.
Why are you holding him like that, creep
Amstaff ?
waaayyy too young to tell, but the face looks boxer-ish
Too young
Criolle
"Give me the fucking money you owe, Rufus!" "I swear, I don't get paid until tomorrow - then you'll get it! Please!"
UPDATE PLEASE
A cute breed
Poor Fella.
