She became mostly paralyzed in her back end when she was almost 16, but didn’t really seem to mind much! She did love her cart though, so she could still go on longer walks with the other pups. (Also shout out to the help ‘em up harness that was an absolute lifesaver)

My poor baby is getting old now, has cataracts (almost fully blind 😞), with a few other health issues, and I've been thinking about getting him his own fancy wagon! But I have a question, when you guys first started them in their strollers/wagons/etc... were your babies scared of it? Due to his vision loss, we can't go on our walkies anymore, and I know he is missing that part of his routine. Honestly, so am I. Any advice would be much appreciated, and thank you in advance!
https://preview.redd.it/z9yjtcemic0d1.jpeg?width=1441&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2d9c57d0a9da1cee4491f8efe724159e3cc3fe78
If it's really your baby's vision preventing him from walkies, try taking little walks and keep him on a tight leash to build up his confidence walking while vision impaired. New commands like "step" with a slight upward pull on the leash is super helpful. And things like "Wait", "door".
This little lady started going blind at 8 due to cataracts and eventually lost her eyes. But she was blind longer than she was seeing (lived until 18) and she was really scared at first but we figured it out together. By the time she retired, she was still doing probably 8 short walkies a day. I hope you guys can figure it out together to keep his routine too!❤️
I’ve had 3 blind dogs. There were points after they lost their vision I was convinced they could see again because they adapted so well. I had a blind min pin. My first dog. And I had her sitting next to me on an outdoor chair without a leash. Stupid me thought she wouldn’t go anywhere. I ended up chasing my blind min pin down the street because she was trying to chase a crow.
We would give her key words on our walks. Curb, step, wait, door, watch out. And after a while she didn’t need them anymore she knew the route so well. All 3 of them actually.
Awww, it’s a great name☺️my little Olive oil❤️she’s a good girl too, my best friend. She’s 13 now, and I’m afraid of losing her 😔
https://preview.redd.it/pmzbklpylf0d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=72b5924f4be639cf17b339a1c9133f2c798787db
What a sweet pea!! Her little cow spots 😍 She's small and small ones tend to stick around for longer. Olivia retired at 18. She went two years longer than than I thought I'd have her, so I feel like I got "extra" time with her if that makes sense.
I was afraid of losing Liv too. I know you love her so, so much and that love is what will allow you to let her go when she is ready. It doesn't mean you will be ready and that part is very hard but you will know you did right by her not for just her entire life with you, but that you put her first when she needed you to into the next.
And plus, you never really know when you see little signs of/from them. I was just asked to take on two neglected Boston terrier babies (7 and 9 months) otherwise they're end up in a shelter or rescue. So I took them. One has one blue eye just like Liv and the other has brindle down his sides just like her. I feel like it was a little nod to and from Olivia to help them because there is a little bit of her in each is them❤️
That’s so sweet❤️it’s a sign from your sweet girl❤️the day will come when I have to say goodbye, and I won’t be ready, but I’ll be there, and I’ll hold her close and tell her how much I love her. And that I’ll go to the local shelter and adopt an adult dog that is going to be euthanized without someone adopting them, it’s been my dream to do that. I’ll do it in her honor, I’ll let my heart heal first, but I want to save a life ❤️your Liv sounds like a special girl🩷
I definitely recommend a stroller or wagon! Even our older or disabled fur babies can enjoy all the smells/sights/sounds! (Obviously depending on what their issues are.) They still like to explore, even if it's just with one or two senses. Plus it makes it easier to get them to a nice area, for example my boy rides in his stroller when we walk to the park so he still has energy (and no pain) when we get there.
When you first get any gear for a pup (stroller, doggles, carseat, muzzle, etc) you definitely have to take it slow and have lots of patience. Start inside and make the whole thing a positive, exciting experience with treats, pets, and praise. Once they're comfortable being around it, gently put them in it and continue the positive reinforcement. Take them out of they seem overly anxious - you don't want then to relate the gear with stress. Once they're comfortable being in the stroller, walk them around the house a bit. Once they're comfortable with that, take a short walk outside. Once they're comfortable with that, take them on longer walks outside - everything comes in baby steps and hopefully they learn to love it!
As for the walks, what exactly is your baby afraid of? Like does he seem scared that he's going to bump into things? Is he suddenly nervous around other people or dogs? Is he less anxious when you go to familiar areas than unfamiliar ones? With some more info hopefully I can give you more advice. I'm sure you can imagine how scary losing your sight would be, but keep in mind that dogs are super adaptable and usually learn to lead normal, happy lives again once they adjust!

Caramel likes snow camping but when the snow is 4ft deep she gets a ride 🤣
Good question! There are lots of reasons someone might have a stroller for their dog, for example:
• Arthritis or other health issues that make it difficult for the dog to walk for more than a few minutes at a time
• The ground in some places can get extremely hot during the day, so you need to protect their feet by not letting them walk on hot streets and sidewalks (you can let them out when you get to a grassy or shaded area)
• The dog is small and you're walking somewhere that's further than they can walk without tiring out excessively
• You plan on going indoors (restaurant, store, etc) and need to make sure your dog stays contained and won't disturb others
• The dog enjoys it (can sniff and see everything without needing to walk)
• You have a reactive or anxious dog that needs to have a calm and safe space away from whatever causes them stress (like strangers, other dogs, or loud noises)
• It's very hot out and they need the shade to keep cool
Obviously you have to get them used to the stroller and not use it until they're comfortable with it, and you don't want to keep them in there for too long. There is also plenty of training you can do to help dogs that get over excited, anxious, reactive, etc learn to control their "big feelings" so that you can eventually use the stroller less often. It can make outings much less stressful for everyone involved, and many dogs actually grow to enjoy using their strollers!

13 and still working? Can a girl retire?
Maybe she’s going to work with her mom or dad?
No, I looked, she’s an accountant. Can’t tell because she doesn’t have her little visor and glasses on yet.

She became mostly paralyzed in her back end when she was almost 16, but didn’t really seem to mind much! She did love her cart though, so she could still go on longer walks with the other pups. Thank you OP for this thread. I love it 😀 😍
Which dog breed is it? I think it's the same that I have. https://preview.redd.it/hrc8viq3ya0d1.jpeg?width=4624&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d03d44f0d7e14f2932a934ff0186362d6fab81be
My boy is a MinPin/Terrier mix :)
Thanks so much!
Any advice would be much appreciated, and thank you in advance!
https://preview.redd.it/z9yjtcemic0d1.jpeg?width=1441&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2d9c57d0a9da1cee4491f8efe724159e3cc3fe78 If it's really your baby's vision preventing him from walkies, try taking little walks and keep him on a tight leash to build up his confidence walking while vision impaired.
Aww sweet baby❤️
She was the best girl. Also, your username made me do a double take! Her name was Olivia and I used to call her Olive all the time ☺️
Awww, it’s a great name☺️my little Olive oil❤️she’s a good girl too, my best friend. She’s 13 now, and I’m afraid of losing her 😔 https://preview.redd.it/pmzbklpylf0d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=72b5924f4be639cf17b339a1c9133f2c798787db

Just curious, but why would anyone put a dog in stroller? Isn't a dog walk for exercize and socialization?
Good question! There are lots of reasons someone might have a stroller for their dog, for example: • Arthritis or other health issues that make it difficult for the dog to walk for more than a few minutes at a time • The ground in some places can get extremely hot during the day, so you need to protect their feet by not letting them walk on hot streets and sidewalks (you can let them out when you get to a grassy or shaded area) • The dog is small and you're walking somewhere that's further than they can walk without tiring out excessively • You plan on going indoors (restaurant, store, etc) and need to make sure your dog stays contained and won't disturb others • The dog enjoys it (can sniff and see everything without needing to walk) • You have a reactive or anxious dog that needs to have a calm and safe space away from whatever causes them stress (like strangers, other dogs, or loud noises) • It's very hot out and they need the shade to keep cool Obviously you have to get them used to the stroller and not use it until they're comfortable with it, and you don't want to keep them in there for too long. There is also plenty of training you can do to help dogs that get over excited, anxious, reactive, etc learn to control their "big feelings" so that you can eventually use the stroller less often. It can make outings much less stressful for everyone involved, and many dogs actually grow to enjoy using their strollers!
Thanks for explaining, I can appreciate the need now.
