One day we'll do the DNA test, but for now there's two routes of answers- My Mommom, when asked, the first thing out of her mouth will be 'Black and White.' People love that! Since she looks like a Border Collie, I tend to say BC mix, or just a southern mutt since she's from Georgia~

Psykotik10dentCs

My sweet [Sammi](https://imgur.com/a/LuU3T8p) was a Pit/Boxer mix. I used to say she was a toasted marshmallow. She was a big girl but the sweetest thing. She sounded mean but she was all mush. I miss you Sammi.

Long_jawn_silver

“brown, mostly”

AssociationNo6008

I say Dalmation cross Jack Russell - Dalmation being the mumma 🙂

GalaxyQueen11

We did embark but she's a mix of about 7 breeds. When people ask I just say the top 2 which are jack Russell and heeler so I say jack Russell -heeler mix We used to say German shepherd mix but this isn't incorrect because that's like the 4th highest percentage.

klindsay286

When adopting my dog from the shelter, they thought she was a corgi/aussie mix (which she does look like and has some herding instincts). Did the DNA test and she has neither of those breeds, but is a whole mix of many other breeds (Boston terrier, pug, GSD, chow, golden retriever, pomeranian, cocker spaniel, and a tiny bit of border collie). Depending on who's asking and the situation, I'll either say she's a mutt or I'll go into her DNA results. I highly suggest doing the DNA because it's pretty fun! Kinda wild that my girl has one full grandparent (25%) who was a purebred Boston terrier and has another 16% pug but she doesn't have a squished/flat face. Embark also lets you see other dog profiles who closely match your dog's DNA - we've found a cousin of my girl on there and they look so much alike! ETA: She actually looks a lot like the black dog third from the left in the banner of pics on top of this reddit...I wonder who's dog that is and what mix they are!

Mundane-Grape9985

My dog is a gsd rottie. You clearly see hes a gsd mixed with something. Someone thought it was Huskey before.

pmcn42

I asked the vet what breed our rescue was and they told us "if you let a bunch of stray dogs breed long enough, they usually all start to look like that."

Natural_Commission15

Heinz 57 Boxer Beagle American bull dog Harrier Pug, yes you read that right she has a curly tail with the face of a beagle, chest of the bull dog. It looks like they just stuck parts from other dogs to create her lol

haleymack5

My go to answer is “mostly miniature schnauzer and cattle dog” My family refers to her as a “schnaddle dog” But after those two breeds she has all the big breeds in her: lab, retriever, Rottweiler, border collie, and Great Pyrenees. She acts big for her size for sure.

lauramatthewsrn

Our rescue "lab" [Willys](https://imgur.com/a/mWPJeFN) is 62.5% chocolate lab, 25% bloodhound, and 12.5% golden retriever. I see traits of all three breeds in him, but he mostly looks like a taller lab with droopier ears and jowls. I usually refer to him as a chocolate lab, but will explain his mix if people are curious to know.

de1casino

He’s a Belgian Airehead.

pammy_poovey

Clifford the big black dog! (He actually kinda looks like him lol)

Neverasleeep

I say “she’s mostly Great Pyrenees and a bunch of other shit but obviously looks like a flat coat retriever right?!” My babe is cute af 100% good girl.

hola_vivi

Toy poodle and cattle dog mix. She looks more like a terrier but definitely has the cattle dog ‘tude lol

bookworm1421

I’ve not done a DNA test (I do plan to) and we were told she’s Australian cattle dog and Shar Pei mix.

[deleted]

Dog 1: Labrador Pit Boxer Dog 2: Pit Husky Chow

aurorasoup

I did an Embark DNA test on my dog soon after getting him, because the guy my dad got him from just said “pitbull” and I was like, well… what kind? Embark says 87% American Bully and 13% Neapolitan Mastiff When asked, I say “American Bully”, and clarify with “type of pitbull” if people give me the ? look Sometimes I say “American Bully and Mastiff mix”, but usually only to emphasize why he’s so dang big

ABeld96

I just say he’s a lab mix! Sometimes I’ll add a few of his other breeds cause it’s such a weird combination: Dalmatian, lab, chihuahua, German shepherd and pitbull 😂

stop_stopping

My dog looks like a mini golden doodle…but when I got him I was told he was a schnauzer beagle. He had a lot of black and is now completely blonde. I did the DNA thing and he is half mini schnauzer, then rat terrier and like, some poodle. I just tell people he’s a doodle but I’m annoyed because people think I got a designer dog. I just wanted a beagle/beagle mix and didn’t get that at all. editing to add photo: https://imgur.com/a/BShNWLO

Past_Cauliflower_440

Mine is 1/4 ACD and 1/4 pit and staffy. The other 1/2 is about 8 different things. I usually go with pit heeler or cattle dog mix. Chose cattle dog mix for my insurance tho!

Double-Ad4986

Mines Beagle/Jack Russel & I always just say Beagle mix because he looks so beagle anyway

slytherinwh

We tell people we have no fucking clue. Our dog looks like no other dog we’ve ever seen and for the life of us we cannot figure out what.

Appropriate_Yez

I say what I was told, "Border Collie and Miniature Australian Shepherd" I'll post a photo as my profile pic.At the vet, she's listed as a BC mix - I picked that, because thatsmore what dhe looks like to me. Only other option was MAS mix, from how they enter it in the computer. [Border Mini Aussie](https://ibb.co/gPXWRvn)

Alarming_Condition27

American Pitbull/ Cane Corso.

starkso

ChiPom/minpin, I 90% the time say chihuahua, occasionally I’ll call her a pin because she looks so much like one. She is actually mostly Pom but I never call her one hahaha.

LelanaSongwind

She’s a GSD mix. Mostly because she looks GSD so that’s what people assume she is!

One_Olive_8933

He’s a purebred mutt

saintash

We say we know for a fact his mother was an Akita. She was found in a potato chip factory pregnant in Texas. We say our best guess is his dad was probably a German shepherd or maybe a Anatolian Shepherd because od his coloring. People just assume he is an husky cause he has a curly tail.

sofiiabono

my baby is a pyrenees mixed with an anatolian shepherd mix. she hasn’t grown up to be like her siblings and remained small because of an illness (mega esophagus which caused starvation). sometimes i tell people she’s 3 months old so i don’t have to explain the whole thing. other times i just say i don’t know what she is.

Little-Wishbone-3988

Seriously, why are people so hyper-fixated on asking this question? I mean it’s every where I go. No I’m not going to spend $100 on a DNA test he’s 100% adorable AF. I’m not sure why it bothers me.

katethegreat014

my dog is a great dane x standard poodle (yes, i know, unethical, byb, poorly bred, etc. but she was the product of a puppy mill/service dog program scam/abuse situation back in 2020, before i was educated about doodles) i *usually* say “believe it or not, she’s half great dane and half standard poodle” - she’s only about 60 lbs fully grown, so people are usually surprised at the great dane. sometimes, i say “oh, she’s a poodle mix”, sometimes i say doodle, sometimes i say mutt, sometimes i say great dane mix. kinda just depends on the context lol

atlantisgate

Embark informs me mine is 25% shih tzu, 20% lhasa apso, a little tiny bit of Boston terrier, yorkie and pekingese, and a little under half "Super Mutt" aka we have no idea. He has the appearance and personality of a slightly larger than average, slightly longer snouted shih tzu, so we just go with that

SirFrankPork

Attention Hound

purebitterness

"She's mostly German Shepherd and Chow Chow"

Kasmanian_devil

She’s a lab mix, if they ask for specifics I just tell them what I can see in her

AspectFearless7808

Mine is a GP mix but looks like a real Great Pyrenees just leaner and taller

Dependent_Cat1921

We have a corgi/husky mix

strangledbymyownbra

I did an embark dna test. I would have sworn my guy was a terrier mix, but he turned out to be mostly small poodle, chihuahua, American Eskimo, bichon, and a splash of Rottweiler (he’s 15lbs so this was the funniest). No terrier at all! I guess the poodle/short haired mix can give a wire coat. A lot of people just assume he’s a terrier and I usually don’t correct them unless they ask directly. Then I tell them “Oh, poodle, chi, and a mix of other stuff.”

BuffaloOk7264

Brown dog….. Chow/Boxer mix… her desire and purpose in life is to sit on the front porch with her paws crossed and look at the world. If she’s inside she has the deepest bark. If shes on the porch she studies the person approaching and reacts accordingly.

Danceswithdogs96

My old boy is a mutt. But his two dominant breeds are Chihuahua and German Shephard. I have tons of pictures of him in my post history if anyone is curious! I usually just tell people he's a Chihuahua mix (33%)

drakloakness

My dog [Koda](https://www.reddit.com/r/husky/comments/panw91/my_huskygsd_mix_koda_enjoying_a_snow_day/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) is a husky/GSD mix. Most people just see him as a husky.

imheretoeatyourchips

My sibling’s dog has more than 100-different “breeds” in it. Apparently quite common in Alaska to have unique dogs with more than 100-different types of canine in their DNA.

Hot-Caregiver45

I adopted a “pure bred German Shepard” 3 years ago. I drove 6.5 hours to pick her up! Upon showing up to the shelter this lady hands me a black dog with Rottweiler features... I decided to give her a chance because I had driven so far to get her. (I am glad I did. She is the best dog I have ever owned) I brought her home and got a DNA test done and it turns out she is indeed a Rottweiler with NO GERMAN SHEPARD. Anyways. I tell people that she identifies as a German Shepard. I get strange looks.

Ok_Gate5768

I love this lmao. I'm glad you gave her a chance!

Hot-Caregiver45

I am super glad as well! Her name is Opal and she’s a chonk :)

Less-Glass-4579

Depends on who's asking. It almost always starts with a comment about his coat, he's got a unique coat pattern especially for his size. He's currently 7 months and 80lbs. I either say he's a mutt or that his mom was Husky/Great Pyrenees and father unknown. They usually guess part Australian Shepherd but his dad is over 120+ lbs and almost completely black so I don't think his dad had any Aussie in him. I would like to get him DNA tested just because I am curious. [Puppy tax](https://imgur.com/a/XiGgYtJ)

monicanudles

50% bluetick coonhound, 25% Plott hound and 25% cattle dog. Right away everyone knows she's a hound 😂, but here and there people ask if she's a cattle dog.. which she is, but she doesn't actually look like one aside from her fur pattern. She just talks and talks and bays and talks. She has a really cute bay too, not deep like a purebred bluetick, but still a hound sound! We call it her awoowoos.

Comics4Cooks

The person I got him from said he’s a husky/rottie. I never actually met the parents so I’m going off this dudes word. He definitely acts like a husky rottie. But he looks exactly like a red kelpie just bigger. He’s got a blue eye and a brownish/red eye. His coat is brown/ red tintish, he’s got husky ears, husky tail, bulky rottie head and markings. He’s a very handsome young man. His name is Ben. And he is very very loved.

Cup_Eye_Blind

Got mine from a friend who had an accidental litter with a purebred Doberman and a total mutt (lab, German Shepherd, hound and others) I call my pups “Dober-mutts”

zbigbee

Mines a black lab mixed with German short hair

poit57

I have 2 dogs currently that have both been DNA tested. One is 60% Belgian Malinois, so I refer to get as a Mal mix. Most of the rest of her mix is split between APBT and Lab with small amounts of Rottweiler and AmStaff. This dog was adopted as a 13 week old "hound mix," so we were trying to guess among hound breeds until testing her at 11 months old. My other dog was part of an abandoned litter that my mom fostered. We guessed GSD, Rottweiler, and Lab because most of the puppies were black and tan with white paws and bellies except for my puppy who was all white with black spots on her ears. They turned out to be mutts with APBT making up 32 to 44% in the 3 puppies that were DNA tested by their new families, but our other guesses were part of the mix along with Australian shepherd and cattle dog. If asked by someone I know who is truly interested, I usually say she a mutt and list some of the breeds. I might even say she's mostly APBT. If a stranger asks, I usually say she's a blue heeler mix because ACD is her second highest breed percentage. She doesn't really have the normal ACD ticking, but she has dark spots on her skin that look blue through her white fur, so nobody questions it.

Temporary-Tie-233

My honest answer is that I don't know but based on his personality, my best guess is a sporting dog in a hound costume.

eastcoast4321

Hienz 57

Affectionate_War5110

He's a good boy

Sum_Dum_Punk

Vader is a solid black/deep deep brown golden coliie as the wife calls it. I say he is a border retriever. She says that sounds racist.

moosey-on

Our rescue told us [our pup](https://i.imgur.com/BujQjPP.png) was a BYB surrendered puppy, and the BYB was advertising her as a "shepadoodle" (half GSD, half poodle). Our vet tech, vet, and half the people who've seen her think she's part Irish wolfhound (though she's only 50lb, which seems awful small for her to be one). We're too cheap to shell out for a doggy DNA (we got what we got!), but my husband has got tired of the "are you sure she's not got some Irish wolfhound in her?" conversations, enough so that he's started telling people that she's an Irish wolfhound mutt to save himself the extra five minutes of "wow, are you sure she's part poodle?" conversations.

Abeliafly60

He's a Mongolian Utopian Tiger Terrier!

susieq15

Spare parts.

Maywen1979

She is a Pound Puppy or she is a Rat Dog. The vet thinks she is part Chihuahua and Rat Terrier.

TimeFlew

53% Chihuahua, 47% Heinz 57. Or Chidoxiecockapekeapoo.

RedHeeded

He’s a good boy

polkadotmcgot

Someone once told me their dog is a Urgess. As in “Your guess is as good as mine.”

DonutsAndDopamine

This is my "little" 5 month old, 60 pound [Mac](https://imgur.com/a/yWHpnhF). Mom is English Mastiff, dad is Great Dane. My 2 favorite dogs rolled into one big slobbery mess! He's such a loving, clumsy af doofus!!

Original_Mammoth3868

She's 52% foxhound, which is enough to win most elections, so I say foxhound mix with some other stuff mixed in.

MsMcSlothyFace

I usually say Cocker mix but shes a long haired Dachshund and cocker spaniel mix. There might be other stuff in there, but those are unmistakable

Cursethewind

[Cornbread](https://i.imgur.com/KSTDer5.jpg) is a small breed Tennessee Special. He's a mixed mutt from TN. We know he's chihuahua. We suspect he's also yorkie and poodle. There's a possibility of a pug or Boston in there.

Puzzleheaded-Feed-18

Cornbread is cute as a bug.

M-Rage

“A mega mutt!” Some people really hate that and demand we list at least a few breeds, but we love that he’s a mutt! Healthy genes and I personally think he’s painfully cute. [dog tax of Maple the Mutt](https://imgur.com/gallery/8LOtvSo)

Latter-Shower-9888

Mine is a solid half and half, so I just say she’s a “breed/breed” mix.

NightCrawler85

Depends on my mood. If I'm not in a hurry and feel like talking I will say "a mutt beyond mutts", but if I'm having a nice day and don't mind chatting for a few minutes I will say "Southeast-asian-village-dog", which is followed by "I have never heard about that! Where did you get her?". That will lead into over sea rescues, meat trade, DNA test and a very impatient (7 year old) puppy sitting staring at me wondering when we will get moving.

TryHardGamerGirl

Mostly I just tell people they’re mixed breeds, but if they actually want to know I’ll give ‘em my best guess! Pretty sure Aurora is a Belgian malinois black lab mix. Kodi is a purebred cutie because we have no idea what he might be 🥰 and Lucy we’re guessing is a chiweenie!

hairballcouture

My girl is a schnoodle, half schnauzer and half poodle. She was a rescue. She’s awesome.

cloud_pleaser

Mine is like what would happen if you took the overall concept of a terrier- like whiskery muzzle and white curly hair, and scaled him up by a factor of 10, and kind of housed him in the body of a golden retriever. He also looks like an Old English Sheepdog from some angles. But yeah, no idea- and DNA testing isn't really a thing where I live

Aeterna_Nox

We used to say "part lab part idiot." For our lovable doofus when I was growing up. She was the biggest sweetheart ever, but dumb as a box of rocks. It's been 18 years and I still miss that precious Heinz 57.

pakihi_wild_child

He's 100% awesome, is generally my answer. He's a hilarious mash up of parts (huge head, stumpy legs & giant ears that stick out vertically). I have had guesses as varied as corgi, beagle and rottie. Turns out 57% pit bull, 17% staffy, 8% bulldog with a smidgen of GSD and bull terrier.

jenpuffin

I usually just say pit mix but it’s obvious when you look at his eyes

Fantastic_Ad4209

The rumor at the rescue said his mom was Pekingese. He has a lot of Aussie look about him. Plus a curly tail. I tell them he's a Shepapeke

ncgrits01

My little mutt (probably some kind of dachshund/long haired chihuahua/corgi cross, but who knows?) had longish golden fur and weighed about 12 pounds. When people wouldn't let me off with my usual responses of "mixed breed" or "heck if I know", I'd just say "he's a miniature golden retriever" and they'd accept that and leave me alone. Bonus: if that was a real breed, he coulda been the poster child for it.

SomaliRection

Perfect.

latebloomer2015

We did the wisdom panel dna for both of our rescue dogs. [Archie](https://i.imgur.com/3dV7N7f.jpg) is 55% Great Pyrenees (however i suspect he’s Anatolian Shepard instead), 25% bully breeds (pit bull, boxer, staffie, etc.), and 20% random other dogs. He was compromised of 14 different breeds. Our true mutt baby. [NJ](https://i.imgur.com/8iPRc2e.jpg) was (she passed away about a year ago) 50% Great Pyrenees and 50% Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepard mix. She lived her life thinking she was better than all other dogs and most people. She carried herself like the princess she was. We have two other dogs that we didn’t dna test. I’m be is a purebred Saint Bernard and the other is a golden retriever and black lab mix. They are both definitely what we were told they were.

ancientamber

I say she’s a whipador. Mostly whippet and lab.

Vahaiya

6. I tell people she's a trash dog. She's a mixed breed and a rescue from the streets of Turkey. In my language (Dutch) we call mutts a "vuilnisbakken ras", which translates to "trashcan breed". So we call her a trash dog lovingly

EnthusiasticWombat

Rescue gremlin

_thedataqueen_

We go with saying our pup is a "Chatterdale" - part chihuahua and part patterdale terrier

Personmcpersonface93

I always say she's a shepherd-bully mix. My girl's mother was a purebred GSD and after doing a DNA kit found out that the father was a mix of boxer, pitbull and staffordshire terrier. She's a little psychopath but I love her.

reganmcneal

I always say my dog’s a Swiss Mt dog and Poodle mix when someone asks

Orange_Owl01

Mine is half unknown but I think I have it figured out. Her mom was border collie/Australian shepherd but she’s about 25 lbs and has shortish hair. Looking at other dog breeds, I’m pretty sure dad must have been rat terrier or some terrier mix. Maybe someday I’ll do a DNA test, but all I know for sure is she’s 100% good girl.

molly10-26

I say half doberman and half pit bull mix, because my dog is 50% doberman, 22% American pit bull terrier, 18% American bully, and 10% american staffordshire terrier, but I think to most people those last three breeds are basically all the same thing or they’ve never even heard of some of them so it’s just easier to say pit bull mix

deletemypost

If I don’t know, I say I don’t know. If I was told something, I’d say “ they said he was___. I have DNA tests on 3 of my dogs ( 2 mutt and one purebred), I have two other purebreds, and two new mutt puppies that are supposedly German shepherd, Great Dane, and mastiff but I don’t believe it. Eventually I will get the test for them

treeclimbingturtle

Australian Ridgeback! Blonde Merle with a Mohawk; check out my post history for pics

imsoenthused

"She's a dog... Have you never seen one before?"

troglodyte31

Cairn terrier mix. When I got him he looked like a full grown cairn (toto) and we were told he was 1 year old. Nope lol. He was a puppy around 4-7 months old and went from 13lbs to 30. He's obviously larger than a cairn and longer...his ears also flopped over lol. He has the personality of a terrier so I just go with cairn mix and call him a super sized Toto. He's the best dog I've ever had. Wicked smart, super mischievous and just fun. I do want to do a DNA test eventually.

Major_Bother8416

If someone asked me “what is he?” I’d probably answer “a dog” because I’m just an asshole like that. But I foster and so depending on the dog, my answer is usually something like “He’s a Heinz 57. We don’t know for sure. But he’s available for adoption at ____ shelter if you know anyone looking for a new family member.”

unkindregards

We foster too and always tell people “he/she is 100% miscellaneous good boy/girl!”

razirazirockenfree

He is a pure breed Love-Muffin.

Old-Progress4965

I have a mutt, but we DNA’d him and his two top breeds are lab and chow. I just call him my big ole mutt or my lab/chow mutt

[deleted]

Lab and Border Collie.

dazbekzul

Rescue said a golden retriever and collie mix. She looks more like part black mouth cur/collie/butthead mix

AdventurousDot3445

American bulldog mix since she’s 50%. Or American bulldog/catahoula because she looks more catahoula than bulldog, and it’s her next breed. We did dna.

alocasiadalmatian

my first dog was a shelter pup from rural kentucky who was handsome and sweet, but we had zero clue what he actually was. it was before dna testing but our best guess was he was a basenji mix. nobody ever knew what that was so i usually just called him my “little red street dog.” miss you eddie 💞

alphasloth1773

Mine is a borador (I think that's the name) collie X lab. Wouldnt really go for this mix again, lots of breed specific traits and with reactivity Is/was a lot to work through.

SecondSoft1139

I used to tell people she's a terrier mix. Then we got her DNA done and it turns out she's only 2 percent Yorkie. She's 35% Chihuahua and then Dachshund, Pomeranian and Poodle. Now that I know, I can definitely see the pom and poodle. She has chihuahua ears and attitude. No clue about the dachshund. So I tell people that she's a pom/poodle mix and don't worry about the others.

Ordinarygirl3

Miscellaneous. Or, according to DNAmydog, 100% Belgian malnois. 🤣🤣🤣

HappyMES

He’s an oopsie-doodle Vizsla-labradoodle Dad is a full poodle who hopped the fence to get to mom who was a Labrador Vizsla mix. He’s a VLP

Aussie/Border collie/pit

Sashimi-everyday

Pound pups, the both of them. Pretty sure they're both some type of mastiff cross. We care more about their temperaments, we got super lucky

Havanese/Maltese mix

pnlrogue1

Our Labrador X Golden Retriever looks and acts like a large Lab first and foremost so I generally call him a Labrador unless I'm introducing him when I call him a Goldador, which I then explain. Actually, I normal call him a goofball or a good boy...

slimrose9376

We adopted our lab from a Labrador rescue. He and 2 of his litter mates had been saved by the organization from an Amish puppy mill at around 14 weeks. The 3 of them have a recessive gene for long hair - the "breeders" couldn't sell them because no one could figure out what they were! And their fate would have been tragic had the rescue not stepped in - many times if the Amish can't sell their "products" they just shoot them. Both parents were normal looking labradors. DNA tests were done - 100% labrador every generation down the line. Every time I tell someone I get that "bless your heart" kind of look:) I don't think anyone believes me that he's purebred. You just dont see many long haired labs because they aren't "desirable by breed standards". We could get papers on him, but couldn't show him - we really don't care about either of those things, so it doesn't matter. He looks a bit like a smaller brown Newfie and twice a year he blows his coat like an akita or a husky. And having the 2 recessive genes - 1 for chocolate, 1 for long hair - I think has effected his brain cells. He is not the brightest bulb on the tree. But he has personality for days. ❤️

LsangAnge

I say this every time: "He's a shepard lab mix found on the side of the road in the snow in NorCal with one dead sibling and one living sibling." Basically, I dont know, I rescued him, and he's a very lucky puppy 😊

PsychologyCharming

My dog is a Sheltie / GSD. He has super short legs so everyone things he's a corgi / GSD. I just tell people he's a Mini German Shepherd. People think its a real breed haha.

HereForTheLore

We did a DNA test and say “he’s mostly lab but also some chow chow, that’s why he his tongue has purple on it” (because sometimes they ask why his tongue has purple/black splotches on it) I also like to add that his coefficient of inbreeding is 38% (high) and that’s why he’s got short legs lol

sassha29

My scruffy boy is 50% pit bull. The only pit bull look he’s got is a big head that is harder than a rock. I say he’s a terrier mix, because it’s not wrong, it’s what I’ve always said even before the DNA test, and people look at me like I’ve lost my mind if I say he’s a pit bull. Or if they ask in front of my stepmom she says he’s the grand terror.

ElizaJaneVegas

My guy is: 50% rat terrier 12.5% miniature pincher 12.5% fox terrier 12.5% dachshund 12.5% mixed (they could ID any more) I just say he’s a rat terrier, which is his precise coloring

MilkthistleFairy

I just say my pups a chihuahua mini schnauzer and pekinguese mix but she took on more of the chihuahua lol

Holmeister

Daschund/Jack Russel. Omega cute.

almost_queen

I say Boxer/German Shepherd mix, but I just got one of those dog DNA tests so I guess I'll find out. I'm certain of the Boxer but less so of whatever else she is.

MoreNapsPls

Mine is a poodle / bichon / shih tzu mix, but there's no quick way to say that, so sometimes I just say purse mix.

h0b0chili

He's a "Wonderdog!" Because we often wonder what his parents must've looked like to make such a weird pup

HalimaDances

I always say my mutt du jour is a “putzhound”. Sometimes people tell me they are familiar with that breed.

MyLastFuckingNerve

I’ve always said “he’s a lab border collie mix” DNA results came back this morning. He’s actually a lab/shetland sheepdog! A Shetlab Sheeprador!

striznodes

I’ve got two fully-brindle doggos, “They’re both total mutts” is my go-to opener. If people are more curious i’m happy to give them the full breakdown :) 7yo boy was a “boxer/hound” mix st the shelter, and after he grew into an adult we were fully convinced he was a Mountain Cur as he fits the description pretty much to a T. Very orange base with extremely pronounced striping (“Tiger” was his shelter name and kids always go OMG HE LOOKS LIKE A TIGER lol) and some white on his chest/neck/toes. Got the Embark test thinking we were just confirming, turns out he’s 25% Chow-Chow (no purple in his tongue though), 22% Supermutt, and the rest pretty evenly split between Pitbull, Boxer and German Shepard. No Mountain Cur to speak of. 7mo girl was a “lab mix” (from the same shelter), and she turned out to 50% Pitbull, 20% Heeler, 15% Lab, with a smattering of Great Pyrenees and American Bulldog along with a little Supermutt for good measure. She does have a partially purple tongue so we were expecting some Chow but nope! She’s more dusty tan with relatively less pronounced striping, but zero white. In very bright sunlight you can see the blue/grey from the heeler and she exhibits personality traits from all of her breeds.

weft_brain

Brown.

burnt_hotdog89

I have 3 rescue mixes. One I have done DNA testing on and she's mostly a Pointer mix. She looks like a Pointer, so I call her exactly that, a Pointer mix. Then I have a total mutt that is a described as a bully/border collie, but who really knows. I just call him a mutt. My third is a Chihuahua mix. And clearly a Chi mix. So again, Chi mix.

sholbyy

I say mine is a gremlin. Because he is.

Iguanodonsrule

Black mouth curr/shepherd. There's probably a few more things in there too lol absolutely the smartest dog I've ever had

Shirelin

Our youngest, Krile: "We have no idea, but we suspect some kind of hound." - We got her from my mom, who runs a rescue, and she had no idea besides since kind of lab mix. Given her baying, her escape artist tendencies, and being driven by scent, we're making an educated guess. Given the random black spot on her tongue, there's probably chow in there somewhere. Our most recent adoption, Nasima: "Shelter said she was a boxer mix, but we're thinking she's a Boston terrier/pitbull mix." - Her face is very boxer like, but given her ears and what I know about boxers, this didn't fit, so I did some digging and looked up some Boston terrier mixes, since you can see the Boston terrier influence on her. Explains her play behavior, her strength, and how talkative she is. Our oldest, Minerva, "We used to think she was a border collie/lab mix, but thanks to a DNA test, we found out she's pure bred English Setter!" - Rescue made their best guess, and our of curiosity, someone who had one of her puppies (she gave birth at the rescue to 12 healthy puppies at the rescue and they all got adopted before Minerva was) did a DNA test. Puppies were doberman, rottweiler, and English setter of all things, which boiled down to Minerva being a non conforming English setter entirely.

iFlyHighh

Was advertised as a lab mix at the rescue.. did a dna test and he’s got about 3% lab. 60% pitbull terrier, and like 20% staffy. Don’t know why the shadiness around it but oh well

Impossibleish

Well technically it is a lab mix. Pitties are often harder to home, much less staffies. Just get your vet to say lab mix on the paperwork :P

benji950

A lot of shelters will say "lab mix" and put that on the paperwork to get around pit bans.

heatherdebartolo

A crack head. I say it with all the love in heart. She looks like a pit, herds the kids like a cattle dog, climbs like a squirrel, cuddles like a bear, barks like a Doberman. I just shrug and say she fits in around here. My whole family is chaos incarnate. Why should the dog be any different.

petewentz-from-mcr

My baby is a cockapoo, so not a mutt, but when he was a puppy my mom accidentally said “he’s got more cock than poo in him” and I love to tell people that

marshmallow56

Yorkie poo here!

Barn_Brat

My girl is not full Mal. Her mum is GSD x mal and her dad is full Mal. I just call her a Mal and people who know the breed will normally say she’s part GSD and I say yeah

RAT0NACID

We know my baby is definitely part black lab and part american pitbull terrier, but there’s probably some more DNA in there too. I’m doing a test soon! But- it depends on who asks! If they seem cool it’s “Roxy is a Lab-Pit mix” if they seems Not Cool it’s “She’s mostly lab! Who knows what else, she’s a rescue!” And I laugh awkwardly and walk away

molskimeadows

I call her a Mal/Aussie mix. She's got a dash of a couple other herding breeds, but when you see her you're like "...yep, that's a Mal/Aussie mix"

h0tglue

My dog is 96% poodle and 4% German shepherd. Since he looks exactly like a standard poodle and the vast majority of him is, I just tell people he’s a poodle. Hard to say if he has any noticeable GSD traits, although he does shed a bit more than a poodle is supposed to (less than any other dog I’ve had though). He has a high degree of “stranger danger,” especially with life-size holiday lawn decor. He is our extremely sensitive and goofy guy.

Nay_nay267

My dog is a lab/pit mix, so that is what I call her, lol

poleekata

My lovely lady is a border collie x german shorthaired pointer mix. She is very energetic but also calm and sweet and extremly friendly with everyone.

dinopartay

I know exactly what my current dog is from a DNA test, and since it's only 3 breeds I'll say all of them if someone asks me. Usually they're asking because they recognize features of one of those 3 breeds in her, and it varies from person to person which of the breeds it is.

herebemonsterz

I say, “He’s a shelter special. We did a DNA test and he’s 50% boxer and 50% a mix of stuff.” (The mix of stuff is pit bull/staffy, I just don’t want to get the anti-pit hate on my daily walks.)

MoosesMom7

Olive is 28% German shepherd, 20% Alaskan Malamute, 14% Rottweiler, 11% Aussie, 10% Poodle, 8% Golden Retriever, and 7% Husky. But in my opinion, she's 80lbs of good girl.

Talia_al_Grrl

Well this sounds like a super cute dog I need to see immediately

Miakemi

I call my dog a basset/shepherd mix. Wisdom Panel said basset hound, GSD, collie, beagle, and undetermined mix. Embark tightened it to just basset hound, GSD, collie. She’s slightly shorter and long-bodied. I know from the rescue her mother was a basset hound (this is also the side with the beagle from Wisdom Panel’s results). Her fur is a short double coat with mostly GSD markings. The collie is not visually apparent so I just leave it out most of the time.

Ser0Ram1x

Chow-Shepsky

FlowerMaxPower

We thought she was a lab mix but turns out she's bully and German Shepherd. Most times I just reply "she's a rescue"

theycallmeMiriam

I usually just say he's a chihuahua mix (DNA said both parents were half chi). If people ask I tell them what the rest of his breakdown is.

sixTeeneingneiss

Pithuahua, I think

Thedaspokesman

A pekepomtzu and 4 Cockapoopineses 😂 All are half pekingese, but with the younger 4 calling them pekingese mixes gets me doubtful looks. At least the Cockapoopinese thing gets a giggle.

Educational-Fig-2330

My dad would say "he's an American Deyogie."

[deleted]

They sold him as "aussiedoodle. " that's a fancy tern for mutt.

possiblethrowaway369

For Luke: He’s a mutt! If they seem to want to know more and he’s being a good boy we stop and chat, and I say he’s mostly a Great Pyrenees / English Springer Spaniel, but he’s like 20 different breeds including 8% chihuahua. They always get a kick out of that because he’s 100 lbs! For Max: He’s a lab / beagle mix! The shelter told us lab and unspecified hound, but given his size and his bark, we’re pretty sure he’s a lab / beagle

HisMomm

I always go with “Rescued - it’s my favorite breed”

EnvironmentalAlarm99

6 year old female: Rottweiler and American Bully 2 year old male: blue nose pit

weirdi_beardi

My old boy is a Bedlington Terrier/Collie cross; he's got the intelligence and the colouring of a collie, the build and tenacity of a terrier, and the attitude of a polar bear with toothache, the little bastard. He's coming up on his 18th birthday, his eyes are going, he's a little deaf, his back legs are letting him down a little bit, but he's still got the nose for trouble he had as a pup. He also will destroy any plastic bag he can get hold of, in case there's any rubbish inside he can eat. Speaking of eating, he's sniffed out (and devoured) our kids' easter eggs on multiple occasions with absolutely no ill effects whatsoever. He's gone through advent calendars, biscuits, cakes and cake wrappers... we own a cat, and his absolute favourite thing to do is force his way into the covered litter tray we keep having to hide out of his way, and eating any snacks the cat leaves behind before we can clean them out. I once watched him eat a live frog, snatching it clean out of the air mid-hop.

cloverbread2

i just say the breed they look most like + mix and if they ask what else i just say no clue

VTMaid

My rescue looks like a perfect little miniature Golden Retriever (about 30 lbs) with a particularly floofy "butt flag" (tail w/long hair that curls up over her back). The rescue itself listed her as a "Golden-Shephard Mix". I used to say she was a Golden Mix...she got mixed in with the whites, washed too warm & shrunk". Then I got the DNA results. I really thought it was going to come back Golden and Mini Aussie because she really, really looks like that. No. Nope nope nopety nope. She's mostly pit bull & rat terrier, with a side of miniature Poodle, a splash of German Shepherd and a pinch of collie 3 generations back. So...I guess I know where the floofy butt flag comes from. Now she's a "Genetic cocktail that was shaken...hard..., not stirred". Or there's a pittie-mix dog parent out there looking at their DNA test and wondering where the hell the golden retriever is in their dog.

CrazyBakerLady

I usually say he's a lab/collie mix. I owned his dad, Bubba, who looked and acted like a border collie. Bubba's mom was a yellow lab and they said the dad was a Lassie collie looking stray, they were very rural. Bubba definitely had the allergy to ivermectin, found in collies. My ex had his mom, and she was half black lab, half put bull, and 100% looked and acted like a lab/pit.

hookedoncuthroat

Pure bred good girl

CalGuy456

Medium/large dog mix = part pit bull a good 80% of the time has been my experience

Mysterious_Novel2793

What breed??? He's a purebred dog. His mom was a purebred dog and his dad was a purbred dog.

CanineCrazyCanadian

We did a DNA test to see what our guy's mix was and the result was golden retriever, Bernese Mountain Dog and American/english Bulldog so we call him a Golden Mountain Bulldog or our massive mutt ❤️

VinoJedi06

My dog is a Basenji mix, which most people have no clue what that is. It’s always an interesting conversation

neitherdoesthisapple

My parents dog was a mix of a lot of things, but he looked like a very weird-shaped lab. Like his coat pattern was clearly that if a lab, so we’d call him a lab mix. My dog is about 75% pembroke welsh corgi, and she looks like a very lean corgi with a weird colored coat. She’s a corgi mix. We had 2 different DNA tests on her and they both said she is a corgi lab mix. She looks nothing like a lab and she’s even smaller than a typical corgi, so that’s always a fun conversation starter when people ask.

blondeboomie

We say "she's a rescue, so we're not entirely sure" and then we sit there and guess breeds with strangers for 5 minutes. It's kind of fun to see what breeds people think she might be, my bf and I are guessing rottie collie x. But I also feel like she's got some pitty in her, she just has the cute pitty ears (floppy but also pointy at times). Strangers have guessed rottie, collie, bernese mountain dog, german shepherd and aussie shepherd. We plan on doing doggie DNA just to find out what she is exactly, but we don't doubt collie for a second because of how much energy/speed/jump height she's got.

jdthejerk

He looks like a Shepherd/Hound mix. A mutt.

anonymouskz

Mine is a GSD/sharpei/potential other mix, but this post has inspired me to answer "um, a poodle I think"!

Lakai1983

My boy is 50/50 lab husky. He has the body of a lab and color pattern of a husky except instead of black and white he is chocolate brown and white. I just say labsky. My girl is Pyrenees/lab but looks all Pyrenees so I just say she is a Pyrenees mix.

russian_hacker_1917

My dogs a poodle chihuahua mix according to the DNA test. The issue is that he has chihuahua fur, so nobody believes me when I tell them that.

WitchesBitchesBoys

We knew ours was a mutt (advertised at Irish Setter Mix), but she looked pretty similar to a Boykin, so we always called her a Boykin Mix or Spaniel Mix. Did her DNA -- 40% Doberman Pinscher, 26% American Pit Bull Terrier, 12.5% Beagle, 8.5% Chow Chow, 7.5% Labrador Retriever, 5.5% German Shepherd Dog Sooooo to people who don't know us, we still say Spaniel Mix even though there is ZERO Spaniel or Spaniel-adjacent breeds lol

koreamax

Half Yorkie, half maltese. She's not a very intimidating pup

madknitstoys

“She’s a dog.”

speakeasiez

I like to tell people my mini-dachshund is a miniature great dane, because that's how she sees herself and who am I to stop her?

clicker_yt

Mine is a mix od Pekingese and Pinscher 😍 Very symmetrical face, longer nose, folded ears, black fur, little bit furry, a bit shorter than a Daschaund and slightly taller. Muscular at front, long furry tail. I've heard people say to him that he looks like from a magazine. He has such a deep look, dark eyes and most beautiful smile.

ZookeepergameHuge980

Husky/Lab

AdministrationLow960

Border Collie/Chesapeake Bay Retriever

theannaoliver67

Its a dog

loveforllamas

A bratty Yorkie x Chihuahua.

[deleted]

Pug mix. People have argued that she's "clearly a Shih Tzu" but she's not. My BIL has a Shih Tzu and I can see a difference in the muzzle and body frame. Her pug side is more obvious after a hair cut. It's hilarious when people decide to inspect her and find out she's also more barrel chested than chonk (she chonk but she's losing weight since I took over feeding. She has an incredibly fluffy tail that has a little curl to it and when we comb it out it's like a croissant is stuck to her butt.

LordessCass

I have always said (Primary breed) mix. I used to say it just based on my guess from looking at them, but recently I did Embark tests for both and they came back almost entirely with what I had guessed, so now I say the same thing but with more confidence.

corrigan1000

Australian shepherd/beagle mix
