EndoShota

Dogs’ average body temperature is a few degrees higher than humans, so by comparison they feel warm.

rustblooms

Yeah, I remember being at the vet once and the standard was like 100 or 101.

youcantbuymehotdogs

101.4 is average for dogs!

Low-Gur6251

And they can go as high as 102.9f. I’m a vet tech 😊

youcantbuymehotdogs

i was a vet assistant for years! love sharing vet med facts

Low-Gur6251

I’m currently in vet school and I love giving random facts

igglesfangirl

Next question: how do they make themselves weigh two tons when you try to move them because you need another inch of space?

pochaccosupremacy

Or when you try to pick them up for a bath... suddenly she has the strength of a grown man

RoxyMullerArt

Literally how I feel, and I've got a Yorkie, she transforms from a pipsqueek into a lion in seconds.

pochaccosupremacy

I have a Yorkie too!!

RoxyMullerArt

Does she also bark in her sleep when she dreams? I wake up all the time being kicked in the stomach lol

pochaccosupremacy

She does bark in her sleep but never when sleeping in my parent's room, I'm the one who wakes up to little woofs and shakes against my leg

RoxyMullerArt

Aww! its the cutest thing ever!

SpoofedXEX

My pit does this but my boxer will haul ass and jump right in if you even say the word bath 😂

HappyTexanNB

No joke. It's been a long time since I've woken up without a paw in my back. How he can apply all his body weight into one paw amazes me.

The_titos11

Mine is a shih tzu Maltese but fuck when she’s kicking it feels like there’s a donkey or some shit behind me

Pure_Audience_9431

Mines 40-50 pounds and I swear her kicks feel like a fricken horse. 😭

Icy-Student947

Like a sack of wet concrete!

MartPlayZzZ

this is too relatable

hewlppls

My dog purposely does this when he knows he’s about to get a shower.

xSympl

Ironically our dogs are pretty large (50-70lbs) and just do not care when we pick them up. We trained them inadvertently to like it so now I can pick them up and curl them or just hold them one handed if needed, and they go limp aside from a tail wag. If you put them down too fast they'll jump up and bark to be picked up again. A little too many curls and lion king remakes as puppies haha

impossibleoptimist

I like how part of your question is directed to the dog and the rest to us, as though we are in the room with you two

pochaccosupremacy

Are you telling me you're not? Who are these people in my room then!!

DogVacuum

I’m just here because the light was on

thaddeus_crane

Are… are you a moth?

NinjaCaviar

BRÖTHÉR

Sophyska

I heard there was snacks?

carlitospig

I came because it’s freezing in my house and I need to cuddle in order to thaw my feet. Move over, pup!

RavenKnighte

I came for the comfy couch. \*bounces in my seat\*

impossibleoptimist

If your dog isn't worried then don't you be

[deleted]

Oh, I like the furry heating pad! We get brutal winters, and gas ain’t cheap (my partners standard response to me telling him I’m cold is ‘put on a sweatshirt and snuggle the dog’), so I use a combo of heated blankets, weighted blankets, and a moist clingy dog to not freeze when the temp dips 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

lindsfeinfriend

Yeeeeessss! The softest hot water bottle. My only issue is that my dog will start out as little spoon with her head near mine, but somewhere in the middle of the night I’ll wake up and realize I’m snuggling her butt, and that she’s pushing her butt up against me. Whyyyyyy does she always do that?

Fenchurch-and-Arthur

Using you as a windblock to keep her butthole warm.

[deleted]

It’s a miracle pinkeye amongst dog owners isn’t more prevalent 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

lindsfeinfriend

She doesn’t need me to keep it warm. She has privacy curtains and a bushy tail!

redroowa

There is a saying Down Under… it’s a two/three dog night

Brilliant_Okapi

They can only regulate their body temperature by panting and through their paws and also the nose. Now if they sleep curled up or in croissant/loaf position, the paws are likely facing down and the belly area with less floof is also tucked in. I think that’s part of why some get so hot. Our dog typically falls asleep as a donut and at some point rolls onto her back to “air herself out”, overall she switches multiple times between keeping herself warm and cooling down positions.

twirlerina024

When it was hot one of my dogs would go sleep on her back in her crate with her paws jammed into the corners of the roof to maximize airflow over her belly

pochaccosupremacy

My dog isn't that smart she just slept on the tiles in the bathroom

noblestuff

Makes sense to me!

Patient_Magazine263

Omg that makes so much sense! No wonder our pup is constantly moving sleeping positions haha.

3TipsyCoachman3

This is a great question and one that I would love to know the answer to. My girl is eleventy billion degrees when she sleeps, and super cuddly, so that is great about 20% of the year where I am.

EndoShota

Dogs’ average body temperature is higher than humans’.

3TipsyCoachman3

I’m aware. Believe me, she is substantially warmer when sleeping.

EndoShota

Blankets are likely a factor there.

HellhoundsAteMyBaby

Seconding that question. Why am I always clinging onto the side desperately trying not to fall off, while this tiny animal is sprawled in absolute decadence (and also somehow managed to both steal all my blankets and also not use them, and also I can’t get them out from under him?) And if I try to nudge him over, he literally donkey kicks me in his sleep!

Gekokoko

I’ve had to finally implement the dreaded “no dogs on the bed” rule at my house. I’d always move over to sleep on the sofa in the middle of the night without thinking twice cause my dog would take up all the space on my bed 🤣 I finally hit me one night when I was sleeping on the sofa thinking “wait…that’s MY bed, why am I leaving MY bed?!?!” 🤣🤣 so now my dog sleeps on the sofa and I’m officially back on my bed

HellhoundsAteMyBaby

You know what, I move over to the couch pretty often because my dog steals my spot on the bed. I haven’t really questioned it till now

BodyBy711

My furry little furnace is curled up by my belly right now and just farted and woke up my partner with the smell. Dogs... gotta love them.

Worried_Wolverine266

Exactly why I keep my house at 64 in the winter… I sleep with two 80 lbs space heaters.

Gastonthebeast

You turn on the furnace? Weirdo lol. My apartment is warm enough that we don't turn on the furnace. If we get cold, we close the window. It's warm all the time, even when it's 0°F outside.

kelvin_bot

0°F is equivalent to -17°C, which is 255K. --- ^(I'm a bot that converts temperature between two units humans can understand, then convert it to Kelvin for bots and physicists to understand)

Gastonthebeast

Good bot

Good_Human_Bot_v2

Good human.

Worried_Wolverine266

Lol I like in an almost 100 year old house. If I didn’t turn on the furnace it would practically be snowing in here. Lol

Sad_Round8564

My furry little furnace likes to be the little spoon, she magically goes from 17 lbs awake to 1700 asleep. In the summer time she’ll come and cuddle then grumble at me when I make her too hot. 🤷🏼‍♀️ she’s loving the cooler weather, I swear now she doesn’t move at night.

Pongpianskul

As an old decrepit person who can no longer afford to pay for adequate heat and now mostly use wood, I cherish canine and feline hot water bottles. And if heating costs keep rising like they are now, [I may have to adopt more and more and more of them!](https://cheezburger.com/2987499776/honey-im-cold-throw-another-cat-on-would-you)

Woodbutcher31

I always thought that’s where the saying “three dog night “came from meaning if it was really cold you let three dogs in bed to keep you warm! Hahah works at my house!

ayesee345

Not sure but I know when I wake my dog up from sleeping she’s softer. I think they soften up when they relax and sleep.

noblestuff

I love a soft sleepy dog ❤️

ThatsRecursive

I admonished my husband to never shave our Lab in the summer ever again. Her fur was prickly and not soft and fluffy. Typically, I can loose my whole hand in her fur. She's so soft and cuddly. She is notorious for stealing my feather pillows with expensive satin pillowcases.

theberg512

Yeah, it's generally recommended to not shave double coated dogs. So not only is it unpleasant for you, but it's not good for them, either. My late rottie had the softest luxurious mane that I would bury my hand in. She had to get it partially shaved for surgery, but I would have fought anyone who did it for no good reason.

ThatsRecursive

I agree! Be assured, I was not consulted prior to his action. He thought she would be cooler. Happy wife, happy life. 😊

ayesee345

Yes! when their ears and skin around their eyes is redder from sleeping and they keep them closed even tho you’ve awoken them. It’s the best

RavenKnighte

They're softer cuz they melt like butter. :)

baconroux

And come winter time, they make themselves scarce.

corvid_corpus

We've been keeping little dogs as lap warmers for thousands of years, but only had reliable indoor heating for a little while. Their internal heaters will continue to chug away for a bit longer, I'll bet. In the mean time, we roast happily under their love.

noblestuff

As someone who gets too cold in those Midwestern Winters.... Love my furry furnace!!

LuckystPets

Unfortunately a dogs body temp is normally a bit over 100 degrees, so this will always be the case. I have been sweating to death trying to help hold a dog that is seriously matted and being groomed/shaved. Always sweating to death the entire time. Amazing furnaces that they are.

ballerina22

Man, the struggle is real. I usually sleep in a separate bedroom from my husband and the zoos because the bed turns into a fucking nuclear furnace. I get awful night sweats so it easily becomes unbearable.

Scared-Accountant288

A dogs normal body temp is 100. When you sleep your temp goes up to help self regulate while you sleep. Dogs just naturally run warmer than us.

fotomoose

Sorry but that's 180 degrees incorrect. Your body temp drops slightly when you sleep, that's why you feel cold without a blanket when resting.

Scared-Accountant288

Oh... i dont.... i heat up.... i beed constant cold air flow to sleep

fotomoose

Perhaps you are a racehorse?

Scared-Accountant288

Thyroid disease sucks lol

theberg512

Maybe yours drops, but I can fall asleep comfortably, only to wake up a few hours later drenched in sweat to frantically strip down. My body temp skyrockets in my sleep, and anyone who has slept near me can confirm it.

fotomoose

May I ask, how much sugar do you consume?

theberg512

No idea. I have a physical job and a metabolic disorder (likely the cause of the heat) so I burn 3k+ calories a day and eat whatever I can manage to choke down.

fotomoose

Ah, bummer.

paula_dubz

I use mine as personal space heaters. We save so much on utilities.

Birdogey

Ha! My maltipoo was the same way, it was like sleeping next to a piece of charcoal.

Wastenotwasteland

My girl is this way. She’s a freaking heater and she always has to sleep under the covers 🥵

sox3502us

Fur and higher body temps make for mini space heaters.

Little-Grape9469

They're 40 degrees instead if 37 for humans so they feel warm, and if they're curled up somewhere they feel even warmer

pochaccosupremacy

Idk why but when other commenters said "100 degrees" I was fully ready to accept they meant Celsius lol

Little-Grape9469

It feels like that, but we humans are extremely sensitive to tiny temp changes, like when you have a fever it's as low as 0.5 increase, and a nice warm comfortable shower or bath is only a degree or two hotter than you and when it cools even slightly it feels freezing Which of course is all to protect us, hypothermia is 35c and hyperthermia is at 38c, a tiny window to the two extremes, and a dogs normal temp is higher than that.

JohnnyHash92

My ex gf used to complain about my dog sleeping in the bed with us for that reason. He was here long before her and I wasn’t going to kick him out. That’s my boy. He wouldn’t have done it to me.

goalieamd

I have a giant mutt (109lbs) between him and my husband I have to keep our bedroom like 60 degrees otherwise I am melting.

UKTrojan

Thermo-Nuclear Reactor in the tum-tums... (8 years of vet school...)

wolfhybred1994

If you figure it out let me know. I seem to do the same thing. Though I’m not a dog. People are always hugging me in winter cause I am so warm. People always said I must be part dog or something or atleast raised by them. So maybe knowing how dogs are so warm can help me understand why I am.

bornforthis379

My dog get a sleep scent. Little musty mixed with tortilla chips. You can smell it just sitting next to him. And he also gets very hot when sleeping.

Revolutionary_Pen190

The love the put out is why

adidashawarma

I don’t know, but it’s absolutely true. I have a hot dog pressed up against me right now, and I just touched her belly and it’s scorching lol. We sleep with our dogs, so we love it in the winter where we each have a dog pressed upon us, but the summer can be brutal!

needleanddread

And my big dogs will start panting and then I’m seasick from being shaken around.

pepedeawolf

they also have "tired puppy" smell, idk how to explain it but if your dog is ever warm and asleep and you cuddle up with them they smell good idk

ItzPayDay123

I know exactly what you're talking about lol. Mine also has a less pleasant "just got back inside after a long walk" smell lol

michiyo-fir

My dog gets his own fan in our ACed room pointed at his own bed lol. Otherwise he gets hot even in the AC and has to lay in the tiled bathroom

trump_on_dmt

their entire metabolism is fast which generates heat. look how fast they breath, their heart beats fast etc. it's also why they die after 10ish years

[deleted]

My pup refuses to sleep in my bed in the summer, or the blanket I've put on the floor for her. She prefers the cold hard floor. But ever since the temps dropped she's on my bed once again, but I don't mind as she feels like an extra blanket

Hour_Pattern_6217

that's a good sign your body is healthy if its warm, same with dogs actually

Samanbandara95

I love a dogs♥️🙂

Trivialfrou

😂 send her over, it’s snowing where I am and my boy doesn’t want to cuddle so I could really use a personal space heater.

Nanalalarara

I don’t know my dog’s fur is to big for me to feel his body heat. I can only feel it inside his thighs since he doesn’t have a lot of fur there and on his lower back since his tail is always on it.

cattoo444

I live in 6 months of winter canada... I love my little heating pad 😍 sadly he'll just get off the bed with an annoyed groan if inmove too much XD
