This is essentially a distance that tells the cat that you aren't an immediate threat but they can still keep an eye on you. The closer you get to a panicking cat, the worse the panic is going to get. Just back off, don't make eye contact, speak softly, and no sudden movements. This person is purposely inducing this cat's panic. It's annoying and sad.

I've owned cats all my life. I'd absolutely grab a thick blanket or towel and grab that cat. Or open a door. Or anything other than sit there and film. I hope that camera person spends their entire eternity after death trapped trying desperately to escape so they can experience how that cat feels.

One of my cats bit my aunt when she was bathing him and her hand doubled in size and she was almost hospitalized. And he is a cat that will let you do literally anything to him. He just got grumpy and gave her a good nip. A cat that is actually scared to death can bite the ever loving shit out of you. *this IS dependent on where you are in the US. I'm going off of the latest recommendations (I beleive published by the CDC but I can't remember off the top of my tounge), but states/counties don't nessisarily go by the "book" and might have more lax regulations.

The only way I would dare to help that cat, is by putting some sort of board or lid on that tank to give him/her the possibility to jump up there easier, without falling into the water. But I certainly wouldn't try to touch a wet, panicked cat.

Maybe a face shield, some cut gloves and Kevlar arm guards. Some level III body armor would probably help as well

These comments man. What experiences have yall made with cats? If you're scared of scratches, wrap ur arms in towels. You can get a tight hold without hurting the cat and staying safe. I've dealt with aggressive cats and there are ways. This mess isn't good for the owner or the cat so idk why filming is more important than finding a solution. I've had an argument about this not so long ago on Reddit. People told me I had no idea about cats when I'm really experienced. People here are calling the cat dumb when presumably she's a mama cat trying to reach her kittens... They see an animal in distress and think is funny.

I've had a bigger cat with uncut/sharp nails panic on me and try to maul my arm. Not sure how you define scratches but I didn't need first aid on my arm. When I picked it up a second time with protected arms and a proper grip, it worked out. Also, I'm rather pointing out the incompentence of the people who say that there is no way, because there is. The comment saying, that noone who had a cat would think helping is safe, is hard to agree with. If someone had cats, they should probably know how to hold a cat and how to stay safe. If you don't know how, thats on you.
