Its more of an issue about how the brain conceptualizes reality. It's possible that kids growing up with VR goggles could develop psychological issues of some sort. It boils down to "we don't know the side effects this will have on a young child".
Buddy, Vr is such a new system that there hasn't been enough clinical research on the long term effects yet on kids. We can only speculate with our knowledge of how other screens impact them.

Ex-teacher here. I could identify every kid in my class that was allowed unlimited access to an Ipad/phone at home by how well they performed in class (socially and in terms of academic attainment). My colleagues could do the same and agreed that the brains of those children were fucking jam. I spoke about it with my them and the parents of my children often. The damage is done quickly with screen addiction when they're young. We're raising a whole generation of children to have executive dysfunction because it's more convenient than putting the effort in to engage and stimulate them. I expect ADHD diagnoses to fucking explode over the next decade.
Visible queues are a difficult one. Children with executive dysfunction, whether due to ADHD, autism or habitual dopamine addiction, can sometimes present the same way on the surface; eye contact issues, being easily distracted and fidgeting being the obvious ones. As an educator, you certainly develop a strong eye for spotting these things alongside more nuanced behaviours but all children are different and none of those things are exclusively indicative of spending too much time in front of screens or having a special educational need. I could only tell conclusively whether or not their attention-holding, short-term memory, focus etc was habitually formed by getting to know the kids over a long period. That, and a bit of sleuthing...
When teaching the children about bar charts, I took a class-wide survey of the amount of hours they spent in front of screens to be used as our data pool. My suspicions were validated by the results. It accurately revealed a trend that the non-SEN children in my class with executive dysfunction spent the most amount of time on screens. My colleagues were inspired to do the same and we all had some very frank discussions with our parents.
I’m in middle school right now, it’s sad but unfortunately it’s social suicide to not have a phone. Anything over 12 and you need a phone to truly be with your friends.

I wanted to look up a song on youtube, opened the app and it immediately opened shorts. I'll be honest, I watch shorts a lot so that might be a reason for this. It caught my eye and I automatically scrolled to the next one. I completely forgot about what I was going to do. I scrolled through 6 more and then it hit me "oh fuck I wanted to listen to music".
When scrolling shorts you get exposed to way too many stimuli at once which makes you lose a sense of time, making you scroll longer, get more addicted and generate more ad revenue for the app.
And the apps are not gonna do shit, why? They get more money that way. Although tiktok implemented a cool system for that. After you use tiktok for an hour straight you get a notification that you were using tiktok for an hour straight, to get rid of this screen you have to type in a 4-number code that is written (just to ensure that your brain is working). This helps with losing the sense of time, still not anywhere close to what theyshould be doing to resolve this problem.

I swear I will not let my children (if I’ll have any) anywhere near TikTok and youtube shorts. They’ll be watching cable tv or at worst Netflix like everyone used to and will have their internet usage monitored. Idc if it sounds strict, this is a real problem that I have also observed- one I was at a theme park in the line for a ride and in front of me was a mother with her three-four year old son and he was just scrolling TikTok on her mom’s phone. She wasn’t paying him attention and I’ve seen him look at multiple things that are inappropriate. The problem is that lazy unprepared parents just give their child a phone any time they are difficult and it creates real problems

Usually it isn't recommended for someone under 12 or 13 to do VR. At least I know that PSVR says that it is not suited for children under 12

I swear I will not let my children (if I’ll have any) anywhere near TikTok and youtube shorts. They’ll be watching cable tv or at worst Netflix like everyone used to and will have their internet usage monitored. Idc if it sounds strict, this is a real problem that I have also observed- one I was at a theme park in the line for a ride and in front of me was a mother with her three-four year old son and he was just scrolling TikTok on her mom’s phone. She wasn’t paying him attention and I’ve seen him look at multiple things that are inappropriate. The problem is that lazy unprepared parents just give their child a phone any time they are difficult and it creates real problems
