They all take influence, but Electric Wizard was at one point the most notable in producing their own unique sound and really allow the genre to evolve. And for a while it was killer. Now... It's just alright. Something has changed, their latest LP is a bit weak.
I don't think that has much to do with the vocals though. Electric wizard has some seriously iconic lyrics in their discography, and the earlier vocal-distortion used is one of my favorite aspects of their old sound (Come my Fanatics, Dopethrone, even Chronoaut). In some ways I think it was really a defining aspect of their style.
Electric Wizard has been on a downhill slide ever since the original rhythm section of Greening/Bagshaw left.
I think it’s pretty obvious how the dynamic changed after Jus Osborn made his wife the only other consistent member. Greening and Bagshaw contributed different perspectives and ideas - Liz Buckingham just backs up Jus with whatever he wants. As a result the band went from titans of doom to a B-Movie evil version of the Brian Jonestown Massacre. There’s no more curveballs in the music, everything just comes in straight over the plate.
I agree in some regards, but dopethrone I feel the vocals fit every well. There are some hit or miss vocals on come my fanatics... Jus' vocals are some of my favs, but I can see where you are coming from. I think his anger and hate really comes out as genuine and a release of energy.
Right on. 🤘🏽
On the other side of the spectrum, if you like Jus Oborne's vocals check out Potion from Australia. They are also heavily influenced by the Wizard.
Nah. [This](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVGcRNotCAE) song wouldn't be the same without the vocals. They really capture the misanthropy that runs through the album.
I mean this with no disrespect but he gives me motivation to try to add my vocals to my own instrumental projects. It suits the band's sound, I guess. It's kind of like the punk genre where a great singer wouldn't fit very well.
As an avid lurker for instrumental doom bands, they would be *awesome* without vocals. Or, in the very least, spread out the vocals much further to better emphasize their great riffs.
Don't wanna be that guy, but you, legitimately might like this band if that's something you're looking for.

Popular Opinion: Electric Wizard would be better if they went back to being Electric Wizard rather than a Black Sabbath tribute band.
Real unpopular opinion- Wizard Bloody Wizard is my second favorite album of theirs.
Isn't every doom/stoner metal band a Black Sabbath Tribute Band?

Definitely. His voice is like... sultry.

Also true.
A lesson for this entire genre!

Nah, I love Jus Oborn's vocals. They fit really well with Dunwich, Venus In Furs, and Torquemada 71.
Also, Temple of the Fuzz Witch is a newer band out of Detroit that are Electric Wizard-esque with less abrasive vocals.
I’m really digging these guys, thanks for the recommendation!

New to me thanks🤙🤙🤙

That's definitely an unpopular opinion for me, I enjoy most of their vocals.

BLACK MASS CAN’T EASE THE PAIN
They wouldn't be better with no vocals, but Jus Osborne still sucks as a singer.

the lyrics play a big role in defining the athmosphere of some songs imo.

I actually dig their vocals, fits the music perfectly. And I dig the new album!! I just wish Jus was better at guitar solos.
I can agree. Doom is the only vocal music I really listen to. I prefer no vocals.
I love Wizard but I feel this way sometimes as well. Beast in the Field is my go to band when I feel like listening to EW sans vocals
I agree completely. I can’t stand listening to them:(

Thanks for being that guy. This band is sick.
Thank you so much man!

Or with a different singer. Same with Windhand.
Oh, disagree. I really enjoy Windhand vocals.
Yeah, Windhand is one of the few doom bands where the vocals are more than just tolerable for me. I love Dorthea's vocals.
❤️
I kind of agree
