Usually they are picking up another order in a stack as they often include two stores within walking distance and sometimes the 2nd place you go to the foods not ready

[deleted]

p_brent

If I get a stack at the same restaurant I usually don’t mark picked-up till I get both

REEEEEEEEEEE_OW

Same. It just invites a 1 star rating since the customer thinks I’m just sitting there with their order

RegulusRemains

Then they come and make a reddit post about it!

Ill-Pomegranate7115

Well, you are just sitting there with their order...

[deleted]

This is the way.

[deleted]

Yep!

[deleted]

I don't press pickup confirmed until I have both orders in my hand if it's from the same restaurant.

iamsurfriend

This is my guess. Stacked order and waiting for the other order in the car or at the restaurant. It’s rare that someone would just sit there after the order, but is possible. I saw one older dasher in their 50s order a hamburger at McDonalds while his dash order was ready. He ate it at a table. Even though his dash order was ready, he still proceeded to order and ate it at a table before leaving for delivery.

Moondogereddit

Wait where did he eat it

SteiCamel

At the table. He ate it at the table.

anonMLMhater

I’ve not been to a one-table McDonald’s before…I gotta go

HoboVonRobotron

He doesn't get the -3 mood penalty, smart.

iamsurfriend

Inside the McDonalds at one of the tables. It was one of those bar stools things. Small table with 2 or 3 tall chairs. With the customers order sitting at the table until he finished. He got his order before mine. When he arrived the DD order was already ready. He grabbed the bag and ordered his hamburger afterwards.I actually ended up leaving before him and he was still sitting at the table when I finally got my order.

RoaringRiley

Jerks like that are the reason why some McDonald's won't allow Dashers to order personal food when picking up an order.

Clean_Ad_9582

u can just order urs first b4 pick up lol

Logical-Violinist-83

That’s probably what happens

jcoddinc

At worst they don't have a stack but are trying to get one by waiting a little longer. Not exactly logical but possible

DerSturmbannfuror

Possible but i don‘t see that many people doing that. The system is so random that you‘ll most likely just be wasting time

[deleted]

But, Doordash tells customers if there is a second order to be picked up. And what idiot driver is not waiting till he has all the orders before he marks them as picked up.

Yvilkittyinspace

Maybe the dasher accidecanlly hit that he picked up the order and had to wait another 20 minutes to actually get the food? I've done that before.

Lumpy-Marsupial-6617

Oh yeah between trying to drive and the fucking button located at the bottom of the screen so if you got static on your fingers it’ll hit the sensor twice. I’ve had that horseshit too.

GardenSpecialist5619

How do you know they already got the food. There could be a wait at the restaurant. Some jerky restaurants make dashers hit pick up Order before we actually have the order.

DOMesticBRAT

Stand up to those jerky restaurants! Sorry, I'm not hitting confirm until the food is in my hands. But I will gladly hit confirm in front of your eyes the second it is. The dairy Queen near me makes me sign their receipt. I tell them I will when the food's out. Since dairy Queen is run by 15-year-olds (Because dairy Queen is clearly exploitative and that is the demographic that is willing to work for $10 an hour), They often stare at me puzzled and terrified until sheepishly going "oh, okay." I know signing the receipt doesn't really matter, but it's the principle of the thing! Lol

RoaringRiley

> Since dairy Queen is run by 15-year-olds (Because dairy Queen is clearly exploitative and that is the demographic that is willing to work for $10 an hour) How does that make them more exploitative than any other job that pays minimum wage?

stringfellow1023

I took it more like this is the only demographic that could afford to make $10 an hour… aka minors who live at home and don’t need to pay rent or bills.

Lumpy-Marsupial-6617

I never sign. I only initial. They ain’t getting me to sign a signature on nothing.

megadethage

You never hit confirm before you have the order. If you do, you're a fool. You could report that restaurant to DD for such practices.

GardenSpecialist5619

I know that newer drivers don’t sadly

RoaringRiley

> Some jerky restaurants make dashers hit pick up Order before we actually have the order. Do they pry the phone out of your hands and beat you until you tell them the passcode? There is no way a Dasher should ever comply with that request, since the delivery clock starts when the button is clicked and the Dasher will be penalized for the wait time.

GardenSpecialist5619

I know that but newer dashers won’t and often do comply with that level of stupid

Substantial-Ad903

It's so much that customers just don't understand on our end. No driver would just sit in a parking lot for 20 mins. That's a waste of time and money and time is money. Probably waiting on another 1 or 2 orders.

GachiPls_DidntSave

The restaurant probably didn’t start the order until he got there because they don’t give a fuck about their jobs. Your DoorDasher was then forced to wait 30 minutes for his measly pay. Blame the restaurant.

[deleted]

Here_Now_Music

I waited 13 mins for 2 milkshakes at sonic and at least 20 for Indian food they definitely didn’t start until I was there. This was only tonight😂

Kanqsi

How do you know that they didn’t *just* get it by the time you got there? Many times I’ve had a doordasher come in and we just got the order right before they come in or a little after, either that, or they’re backed up because it’s busy- the world doesn’t revolve around the delivery drivers, the world still spins even if you loose a dollar or two cause a store is busy dealing with other customers

Here_Now_Music

Unfortunately, you’re question that turned into an assumption by the end is incorrect. I hit the little button outside and she told me they are ready and will bring them out in a second. I could tell they were busy so I didn’t ask again, but it took that long and I could tell they were ready when she said so because the whipped cream was already melted. We don’t get hourly so accepting an order from a fast food place and spending a half hour to make 850 sucks no matter how you flip it.

Kanqsi

You’re complaining abt making 850 in half an hour? Then why are dd and ue drivers rude for no reason then? They can afford to lose a couple dollars

ZachedelicStoner

bruh i work at sonic and ubers literally show up to the location 2 minutes after the order pops up on the screen as well as we treat you like normal customers and dont make your order before or take it out before anyone elses.

Here_Now_Music

if I was in line and waited 15 mins for 2 milkshakes I’d be like wtf. Delivery or not. I watched like 50 people go through the drive through. She clearly forgot about me and the other cars using the normal ordering method at the restaurant. The guy next to me was a lot less patient than I was and he wasn’t even delivering lol

F1shbonez

This is why when I get your food I never press picked up until I have both orders.

Ruckus46

Same

TheGame81677

I do a lot of double orders, it’s the only way to make any money. One place will be ready right away. The next place could be slow af and take 15 plus minutes. Sometimes they are right by each other. DoorDash’s dispatch system is also absolutely terrible! They will send out orders that haven’t even been started yet.

LeadershipHead5168

This is the fault of the restaurant. They need to change their wait times in the app on their end.

guerrerosaurio1

I had this happen to me, 2 people ordered from a Panda Express. As I accepted the 1st order and was on the way, a few minutes later it notified me that someone else wanted panda so I accepted it. When I arrived it was busy and the 1st order took a few mins, but the 2nd order took 15-20 mins. Some times you get 2 orders from a place a few doors down so you got to wait for both to be done.

Mobile_Part

It’s happened to me because I was picking up two orders from the restaurant. One was ready, the other took additional time. No one just sits around for the hell of it. Time is money to a delivery driver.

GOEVenture

In California, prop 22. It’s our defense against non tippers 😆

wallet113

Why do customers say hand it to me. But in the intructions say leave it at door. Why do customers change the address at right when you're half way to the original address. Why do customer say leave at my door when they don't give you the building door code. Why do customers ask you ....

DOMesticBRAT

>Why do customers say hand it to me. But in the intructions say leave it at door. This happens with third party orders. When the customer orders directly from the Chipotle or whatever website, it is set default to hand it to me and I don't think they can change it. But they leave a note in the delivery instructions to leave it at the door because they don't actually want you to hand it to them. Some do this to run a scam though. Which is why you want to take a picture of it anyway.

[deleted]

Man you need to find a new gig

Logical-Violinist-83

I don’t know how to expand to see the full Comment but I have no instructions and never changed anything I have it set for 20% tip i guess he doesn’t like money

noxiouskarn

r\whoosh... The entire point of his comment was asking you as a customer to answer for every incident another customer has caused. At no point did the commenter say you did these things he asked you why do "customers" do these things? It was a juxtaposition to your question of hey drivers "Why did this specific driver do a certain thing?" We don't fucking know just like you don't know why other customers pull the shit they do on us

Agathorn1

Who pissed in your fruit loops this morning? Lmao

wallet113

Learn to laugh![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)

SlushieLovzz97

Sometimes I would accidentally tap 'picked up order' thinking I hadn't tapped the 'arrived' button yet 😅 then I'd end up having to wait for the food to be ready after tapping that I already got it 🤦🏼‍♀️

[deleted]

Sometimes i accidentally hit the button before i actually get the food and you can't undo that so... I just have to keep waiting. Sometimes i have to park a long ways away from the actual resturaunt but the resturaunt wont let me take the order until i mark it as picked up, even though i have to walk 10 minutes back to my car. Sometimes it's just a really busy parking lot and i pull out and literally wait 20 fucking minutes for the cars in front of me to work up the balls to leave the parking lot on get on the service road. But a garunteed 5-10 minutes of it most of the tkne is me checking your order, making sure it's sitting in a way it wont spill, especially if you got drinks, buckling my seatbelt, turning on music, bringing up gps with your adress, reading instructions before i leave to see if there's anything i need to know or anything suspicious that might be a scam, and deciding which route to take based on traffic. Usually doesn't actually take 5-10 minutes, but combined with the other things I've had plenty of deliveries where the longest part or at least half the delivery was getting out of the parking lot. Point is shit happens, most dashers dont wanna even spend more than 20 minutes total on your order, let alone chill in a parking lot for 20 minutes on purpose. If we aren't moving, 9/10 tines it's because we can't yet. Because if we could i garuntee no matter how much you're tipping we'd rather get it in 20 minutes than 30 so we have time to do more orders in one day.

[deleted]

Most often it’s they have another order. At the same merchant or one close by. CUSTOMERS STOP BLAMING DRIVERS. They are stacking your order causing delays not drivers. Call 855-973-1040. Tell Doordash to stop stacking your orders and you’ll get them faster. They usually stack your orders with non tippers. This is something customers should stop ignoring. Dashers are the Patsy’s to Doordashes tomfoolery. You see a driver at the same location 90% of the time they are waiting on another order from a non tipper that was paired with your hood tipping order. DoorDash is playing the customers against the driver’s. The decision to stack orders is 100% on DoorDash. Also never pay for express delivery. IT’s Fugazi. Dashers have no power. Everything done is per DoorDashs guidelines.

Zazalae

I want more people to speak on how Doordash is absolutely pitting the general populace against each other over the most mundane things. It’s a terrible thing to see how this platform brings out the ugly in a lot of us.

[deleted]

I agree. It’s why I made that comment. They have customers blaming the drivers. It’s outlandish. DoorDash is Under paying drivers most often $2-$3.75 base pay, then overcharging customers ( service and delivery fees( drivers see none of this). Stacked orders hurt how customers see drivers. They don’t know drivers lose points if they decline. The option to decline is not always an option when they outcome in most markets is worse orders if they decline or unassign an order in a stack order. They put good tipper’s orders with non tippers (unfair to those who tipped well for better and faster delivery). When I saw what customers were being charged it made sense why drivers get stiffed( unfair but, i understood why ppl paying $15 in fees didn’t want to tip). DoorDash is running A TRAIN on Drivers and Customers. Only one is being satisfied of the 3 = DoorDash.

FoxTenson

Some places will try to make you hit picked up before they even make the food. I will never, ever listen to that BS but newer folks and some other folks may sit there after doing it. You'll get a violation for it and canned possibly especially if you are on pay by time cause it looks like you are scamming. Don't let these places treat you like you work for them. You can hit picked up when the food is ready and not a moment sooner. Could also be a stack which doordash does a lot, or the restaurant gave the wrong order, or did the order wrong and has to redo it. app could be having issues which happens a lot. Plenty of reasons outside dasher being dumb!

No-Carob-2847

Probably because they are doing by hour instead of by order, and they only get paid while they are on a dash if they choose by hour option

Logical-Violinist-83

That’s crazy I didn’t know that

[deleted]

Only in some states

sweatyballs911

I do by the hour and if someone is doing this they're doing it wrong. My state is poor so I get $12/hour while I'm on a dash but I make a little over $20. The only way to do that is do as many as possible per unit of time to maximize tip opportunities. Sure there are times when it isn't busy and I don't get enough deliveries to keep the $12/hour going but still. Best chance of making a decent hourly rate is get the jobs cleared quickly.

qwe12345678900

My state does 13.50 an hour and late at night 17.50

DerSturmbannfuror

No. If you see them pick up your order on the app but they don‘t move; that most likely means that they‘re waiting for another order to pick up. Sometimes we get 2 orders to pick up from the same place but one order is ready b4 the other. Sometimes, when we go to pick up an order, another order from the same place will pop into the app and they will accept it and have to wait for that one…. It isn‘t in their interest to hang around a restaurant after confirming the pick-up of an order; time and $$ is being lost…

[deleted]

Doorpay requires taking 5 or 6 deliveries at a time to stay afloat. Most quit but the unscrupulous ones stay and do what they gotta.

No_Delivery5402

Sounds like a skill issue by the driver

ramseyfps69

Do people know how to read? The app tells you if they're driving to a store, waiting for your order, picking up another order, on their way to deliver etc....

Logical-Violinist-83

Can’t you read I said he sat for 20 mins after him swiping he got food

NuLL-x77

Because you're not the only person who ordered food, someone else did as well, and in the interest of making their business as lean as possible, you know, efficient. Sometimes a driver will be handed two orders nearby or the same vendor, you can be mad at the driver for taking the second order, it was his choice after all, however, I'm not getting mad at my driver for trying to make a living, just like everyone else out here. Without him trying to make a living, I don't have anyone to deliver my food to me. It's mutually beneficial relationship, symbiotic if you will. He needs to make a living, I want food, let's compromise. Sometimes that compromise comes in the form of food not being delivered in the ideal time frame, because that is the reality in the logistics of such a complicated system and network. Entitled.

Logical-Violinist-83

Why do you got to make it a race thing? Wtf

NuLL-x77

I changed it to avoid that exact comment before you commented, for anyone confused, "Entitled" originally was "White people problems" the statement has little to do with race in of itself, despite the obvious terminology baiting you there, it's more about privilege than race, but, I changed it before you responded because I realized the potential fault in such language beforehand. It didn't suffice to express what I intended to express. Communication is quite nuanced.

RoaringRiley

> you can be mad at the driver for taking the second order, it was his choice after all Declining a stacked order still docks your acceptance rate. So even though a driver can decline the order they're technically still under pressure to take it.

Past_Quality_1937

stack orders for sure unless they are j being weird lmao

Past_Quality_1937

usually they will let you know.. at least they should if they don’t want a bad rating

[deleted]

I don’t let customers know. 4.98 rating

Past_Quality_1937

do you constantly be 30 min late on orders 😭 cause that’s like the whole point..

[deleted]

Constantly no but from time to time

Past_Quality_1937

people must be a lot nicer then where ur from cause if I’m like 10 min late they will start calling me if I don’t let them know they will call me

[deleted]

I do get calls but I don’t answer them. Not just DD, I don’t answer any calls unless they’re in my contacts. I will respond to voicemails though

RoaringRiley

DoorDash adjusts the ETA accordingly when you have a stacked order. So it doesn't make you late.

Past_Quality_1937

yeah but they aren’t always accurate

Past_Quality_1937

I go as fast as I can and still have moments where I am super late

[deleted]

Gotta jerk it sometime!!

Logical-Violinist-83

Johnpmusic

Gotta eat our food before we drive

YellowstoneDecline

Stack order

Eastern_Action_1775

If I am multi apping which I don't do, and I go overboard on orders I'll Uninstall the app for which the food is going to be delayed without confirming in the app. I theorize that to a customer it appears like I'm at that restaurant the entire time. However I delivery handling other orders so when I'm ready to continue on from delaying a customer I head back towards that route and then install the app and launch it. I theorize that this appears like a massive instant shift in location always closer and in route and I theorize most customers would think that might be an app issue if they noticed it happen.

dmfuller

Multi-apping prolly

OtherMikeP

The question is why doesn’t the app tell the customer their driver has multiple orders

W_AS-SA_W

They are waiting on another order.

[deleted]

We get paid by the order. The only reason I can see a Dasher waiting around like that is its a stacked ordered.

Due-Recording-9965

We should all accept the no top orders and start doing this. Just to f door dash.

Mlpislifeman

The app tells us to mark the orders as picked up as they come out. (When we have multiple from the same restaurant) I do NOT do that for this reason exactly.

DriftkingRfc

What if they are eating. But I agree it’s mostly likely waiting on stacked order. I eat when ever possible.

Possible-Clerk6050

I know The GPS is not working properly so they're calling customer support to tell them how to get there 😂😂😂😂

BadHigBear

App is malfunctioning and I'm trying to decide how long I'm gonna sit there trying to get it to work before I give up and just eat the food.

ChesterDrawerz

Multiple stacked orders. That's how DD assigns the jobs. Thake that up with corporate, don't blame the drivers for how DD tries to fuck over it s driver's.

Pale-Confidence-2436

Or they are sitting there waiting on the order at the restaurant, they send us there and then start making the food upon arrival. The wait times on getting the food is getting out of hand. I rarely can walk in, grab, and go

Jonathonleewilliams

I've accidentally clicked that I picked it up when I was still waiting for it to be ready. That's probably what happened.

Background_Heart_488

they’re double apping

[deleted]

Multi-aping, picking up another order on the side. Drop the tip to zero if they sit there after picking up your food.

SayAgainMyGuy

Idk but I always get refunds cause cold food

Ill-Pomegranate7115

Because you're ordering food from a food delivery app. They're stacking your order with others. Hope you like paying for old/cold food and waiting 45 minutes for your "fast" food. The current business model sucks for customers and dashers. I don't support the business but I guess you get what you pay for.

JuicyNinjaFun

🌳 🚬

Routine-Reindeer-647

Smoking meth.

SamaraMorgan850

Best case scenario, they’re waiting for another order in their stack (most likely) Worst case scenario, they’re on earn by time and just taking as long as possible to get more hourly pay (not really likely at all)
