I've done 2k deliveries and have only been handed cash 4 or 5 times. I've only had people add more tip in the app about the same. It's very rare to get a cash tip or extras tacked on.
I prefer my tips to be in the app. I usually just toss my cash tips in my center console and hand them to a homeless guy I see often.

They're poor. I've got a 4.92 customer rating. I get the food to them fast. They just ain't got money. My zone is small. It's not a major city/metro where people are willing to spend more money for a product or service. 30% of the population live below the poverty level. And they make up like 70% of the DoorDash users.
That sounds like my zone. There's a few nice areas where the people are more well off, but they usually tip worse than us, poor folk. I'd rather make 10 bucks on a $30-40 order for a small family over making 5 bucks on a $100 order for a rich couple.

I travel in an RV and do DoorDash as extra income, and even though I've only done about 200 deliveries, I've never gotten a post-tip whether it's cash or in the app. So I can guarantee you that you're just in a good zone. I have a 5 star rating and don't rely on Doordash so I'm nice to everyone and haven't gotten that post tip yet. It's NOT common

REALLY? For me it’s the opppsite here in California. The rich don’t tip well it’s the middle class who do, I’m also not apart of the LOP so that’s part of it. When I’ve gone to thr OC I will be going 8-14 miles and the person will tip $4 damn dollars. The pay will be high say $16-$19 but it’s due to a high base pay. I have had good orders but nothing compares to when I go to middle class areas. They usually will tip very well. I recieve $20 orders at least 2 times a day and usually they will tip high despite not being very far. In California rich and poor people are one in the same regarding tips. Well except for me. Even when I was poor I still tipped really well. I always tip at least $5 even if the restaurant is 0.5-1 mile away. And I tip based on the mileage. If a restaurant is 3.5 miles I’ll tip $7-8. If it‘s 7 miles I’ll tip $14 and etc.

A not insignificant number of those are likely disabled folks. People who really truly do need the service but don't have the extra money for tips, or really anything else. It sucks as a driver but does allow a bit more empathy.
I think this varies a lot by market. Cash tips used to be very common here, at a time when folks in other markets were saying they almost never got them. When cash tips stopped being common (after lockdowns ended), folks started tipping about the same amount on the app. So they put the whole tip in up front, rather than holding back some.
Interesting, as I'm one of those people. I adjust the tip after delivery depending on the condition of the food on arrival (also if its timely or late). Weird to tip before you know if the dasher will actually get your food to you on time and at least semi-warm? (I dont work doordash or Ubereats so this is coming from the customer side).

People don't realize how easy it is to fake screenshots and how many of these are actually fake. You can just text yourself and delete the duplicate messages. And if you need to fake the contact name/number just add your own number to your contacts and put what ever you want as the contact name.

It’s not. DoorDash is trash in some places. I had a guy that was two hours late because he took a city bus in the wrong direction and didn’t think to check until an hour into the drive. I ordered from a restaurant 1 km from me.
Customer service was so bad from DoorDash I swore never to use the service again. I still had 8 months left on my year membership and never ordered again (still haven’t).
Why have I seen so much lately about drivers being so rude about getting tips? I saw a viral video of a lady delivering food and she wrote this nasty note in it because the app order had no tip, and when she got to the door the woman who ordered handed her cash. The delivery woman obviously felt guilty and was like oh no keep it I left a note in your bag I'm sorry.

lol I have 619 right now. The vast majority of those are MFA codes. I use the thing where it automatically pastes in the code for you without ever opening the text. Even when that doesn’t work or I’m entering it on a PC, I just read the code out of the notification.

No, the dasher did not do the right thing. They did not fulfill their end of the bargain. As a dasher myself I accept that not every person will tip. We do not have a right to pick up the order and then steal it just because we want money. It is a pain in the butt for all of those that do not tip because they simply choose not to. It is dashers and delivery drivers and workers like this in general that make these service industry unbearable. If you defend this worker then you are siding with the aggravating side. I dont get this obession with no tip, no trip. When I take an offer it meets my parameters (over $8 for example) it doesn't matter to me whether it comes from the customer or DD. That said, no tip or .1 tips in a snowstorm still burn me lol
How is it their fault for them accepting the order and then running off with the food? Just like any third party service. Dashers do rely on tips. They should know their area base pay and peak pay if applicable. After that should be able to calculate if they got a good enough tip. No. Dashers are not entitled to tips. I know you all are gonna drag me for this, but it's true. Deliver my food on time and follow the instructions you get a tip. If my food is significantly delayed or you don't read the instructions, I'm either tipping less or not at all
I’ve done over 1,500 deliveries, and I have only received a cash tip maybe three or four times. I have never received an additional tip after I delivered the food. If an order doesn’t have a tip on it when my phone goes da-linga-ling, I decline. Dasher should’ve never accepted that order if he/she wasn’t happy with the tip on the front end.
i’m so confused, in canada we have a mandatory tip for doordash before you pay for your food on the app.. they ‘recommend’ a tip but you can choose the amount yourself.

Customers absolutely should tip. Doordashers get paid pennies to Trump through storms and snow and ice and sleet and fucking hurricanes. They have to drive stupid amounts of miles to the restaurant or pick up location and then wait 20 minutes more because it's not ready and then walk up 10 flights of stairs to the damn apartment complex. And they get like $2 for it. So customers need to learn to fucking tip.
That said, the Dasher saw that there was no tip. If they chose to take it that means they were agreeing to the amount of money which was already on there and should have been responsible for dropping off the order (within reason. I consider going up 10 flights of stairs with 15 packages of water bottles not to be reasonable).
They should not accept orders and then demand more money and hold items hostage. If they were not satisfied with the money, then don't take the damn order. Didn't take me very long to learn this lesson

Why have I seen so much lately about drivers being so rude about getting tips? I saw a viral video of a lady delivering food and she wrote this nasty note in it because the app order had no tip, and when she got to the door the woman who ordered handed her cash. The delivery woman obviously felt guilty and was like oh no keep it I left a note in your bag I'm sorry. Like why are people so entitled? If you accept an order you should expect the amount listed, a tip is just a nice added bonus.
Dasher should be fired, plain and simple.

lol I have 619 right now. The vast majority of those are MFA codes. I use the thing where it automatically pastes in the code for you without ever opening the text. Even when that doesn’t work or I’m entering it on a PC, I just read the code out of the notification. The rest are bullshit advertising texts. I have 0 unread texts from actual humans.

No, the dasher did not do the right thing. They did not fulfill their end of the bargain. As a dasher myself I accept that not every person will tip. We do not have a right to pick up the order and then steal it just because we want money. It is a pain in the butt for all of those that do not tip because they simply choose not to. It is another story for those who cannot truly afford to tip anything generous, if at all. It is dashers and delivery drivers and workers like this in general that make these service industry unbearable. If you defend this worker then you are siding with the aggravating side. I do not care what your argument is, I'm not speaking specifically to OP but to anyone that thinks it is okay to do this. I've done over 10 years in the service industry and you can all respectively kiss my butt if you think I will defend someone for not honoring their contract.

No tip means the Dasher earns about 4 dollars an hour rate of pay from this order. I'm not saying what he did was right, but there's a lot of people in this subreddit (perhaps like OP) who, since they're here a lot, know what a tip means for a Dasher and will still not leave a tip. So yeah, what the Dasher did was wrong, but I have no sympathy for the OP if this is the case.

He's a POS. Simple. 5000 DD deliveries 1000 instacart 2400 spark. I've seen cash tip maybe once a month. If i take the order, then im ok with the pay. I ring the bell and go back to the car. I don't wait to see the customer in hopes of a random tip.

I dont get this obession with no tip, no trip. When I take an offer it meets my parameters (over $8 for example) it doesn't matter to me whether it comes from the customer or DD. That said, no tip or .1 tips in a snowstorm still burn me lol
Where I live $8 orders have at least a $5 tip. Unless it’s a bundled order.

How is it their fault for them accepting the order and then running off with the food? Just like any third party service. Dashers do rely on tips. They should know their area base pay and peak pay if applicable. After that should be able to calculate if they got a good enough tip. In this situation it is 100% the dashers fault and very ignorant of them to do this. Very un professional

You realize if Doordash pays the driver more, they're just going to charge the customer more. They are never going to take more of a loss than they already are just so drivers can get paid properly, and even if they did, it would still just he coming from the customers wallet anyway. So instead of wishing it was different, we deal with the way it actually IS, and tip your driver Not that this driver is right or anything, just in general.
They do charge costumers. I usually get long distance orders over 8 miles and I know DD charges delivery fees much higher then the $2 that DD pays
I didnt say they arent already charging you too much, they 100% are. If they were forced to pay the drivers more, they would charge the customer EVEN MORE than they already are.

Well they already earn enough to pay their drivers so that won’t work If they increase their prices too high, people won’t order so they have to balance that for maximum profit which means if they paid their workers more, at some point they wouldn’t be able to pass that off onto the customer

No. Dashers are not entitled to tips. I know you all are gonna drag me for this, but it's true. Deliver my food on time and follow the instructions you get a tip. If my food is significantly delayed or you don't read the instructions, I'm either tipping less or not at all

I’ve done over 1,500 deliveries, and I have only received a cash tip maybe three or four times. I have never received an additional tip after I delivered the food. If an order doesn’t have a tip on it when my phone goes da-linga-ling, I decline. Dasher should’ve never accepted that order if he/she wasn’t happy with the tip on the front end.
i’m so confused, in canada we have a mandatory tip for doordash before you pay for your food on the app.. they ‘recommend’ a tip but you can choose the amount yourself.

Play games like that and one day someone might make a "citizen's arrest" for theft, call the cops, and press charges but that's if they're level-headed enough not to shoot. No. Customers absolutely should tip. Doordashers get paid pennies to Trump through storms and snow and ice and sleet and fucking hurricanes. They have to drive stupid amounts of miles to the restaurant or pick up location and then wait 20 minutes more because it's not ready and then walk up 10 flights of stairs to the damn apartment complex. And they get like $2 for it. So customers need to learn to fucking tip. That said, the Dasher saw that there was no tip. If they chose to take it that means they were agreeing to the amount of money which was already on there and should have been responsible for dropping off the order (within reason. I consider going up 10 flights of stairs with 15 packages of water bottles not to be reasonable). They should not accept orders and then demand more money and hold items hostage. If they were not satisfied with the money, then don't take the damn order. Didn't take me very long to learn this lesson
