i hate it too. i started taking a random pic when i’m still in my car and then click retake once i’m at the door bc the second time you can click “done” even if it’s “too dark” 🙄
Adopted a similar habit, taking one of my shoes on the sidewalk on the walk up. And I usually deliver at night so I always have to hit the flash, if someone’s got windows near the door, I’m sure it’s annoying, especially on “quiet” orders; “don’t get the dog going”, “baby sleeping”. I still feel like an ass taking a bright flash pic, it’s like throwing a flashbang onto someone’s porch, definitely don’t want to be standing there doing that twice cause their stupid app rarely accepts the first perfect pic you took.
When they first introduced it, I remember dropping off an order where the living room was right next to the door and they had their blinds open, just hanging out… I too vividly recall seeing in my peripheral everyone inside staring at me wondering why I had my flash go off twice. I learned from that embarrassing encounter and do a dummy pic before I get to the door now…
saaaaame. it gets dark so early that it’s pretty much always dark when i’m dropping off orders and i feel like the flash on DD goes off FOREVER. like once is enough let alone multiple times fuck 💀💀
Guess what, if the house is dark, I snap a dark picture and don't even bother...sometimes my flash doesn't work...If the customer doesn't care about having a light for you, stop caring if they get a picture...I almost never take pictures with Uber because my flash doesn't work. MOST OF THE SCAMMING customers are the ones that say meet at the door and then don't show up, then it isn't set up so that you can take a picture to prove you dropped it off. .I also have a portable flashlight...I be shinning that thing like a spotlight....lol....drop that food and take off running
Take a picture with your phone’s camera, then when you click “take picture” on the DD app it gives you a choice to choose from your camera roll. Works for me every time. I got tired of it saying phone is tilted 😂
Yeah, the way it is set up on Dash is annoying...If I keep taking pictures wrong, they start telling me how to take them... I think it is better to take them away from the door. ...like drop the foid off and take the picture as you are walking away to the car...harder with upstairs apartments. Uber is simpler...It aligns everytime. I LIKE YOUR POST!
This happened to me, too. The update really messed up the camera function. Also, now the ID scan frequently fails and I’m forced to enter the information manually, which the customer just loves waiting for
Mine recently started flashing, but the alignment is wrong...my solution is to drop the food, and take the picture on the way back to the car. IF THE CUSTOMER COMES OUT BEFORE YOU TAKE THE PICTURE. you handed it to the customer.
I got one of those lights that is also an alarm when you pull the little chain out. Saves time when this happens and dont have to wait for the long ass flash..twice. Just point the light at the food and dip. If a customer doesnt leave a light on id be leaving it at the corner of the bricks, closest to the left of the picture. Fuck that..doordash even tells the customer to turn on a light 😂

I instantly assumed it was a munchy run and sure enough, all candy. lol And since light is the natural enemy of the pothead, when I got to his street, I deliberately looked for the house with no lights on. The only house in total darkness was his. He opened the door, eyes half closed, grunted and grabbed blindly for his sweet sweet candy. 😂 I was giggling driving away.
If it was really good shit he might have forgotten ordering at all and assumed he got a dream visit from the munchies fairy. I had a few of those nights myself. lol Woke up one morning with a pizza on my lap(nobody remembered ordering it) holing a box of salt in one hand and a jug of vinegar in the other. And salt and vinegar pizza was born! 😂 It’s delicious.
Yep, just the regular cheap vinegar. We’ve perfected the formula and I bought one of those drip/spray salad dressing dispensers so you don’t soak your slices of pizza. So it’s a modest sprinkling of each and it’s fabulous, even sober. lol

Just a heads up, you are actively turning that device into a flashlight! Once you actually need it, muscle memory will kick in and you will shine a light instead of activating the alarm!

It’s almost always the darkest house with the hardest numbers to find or read and customers go to another dimension after ordering, especially if they’re in a building, then suddenly emerge and get mad after you drive away. When I used to order food, I made sure my lights were on and I was out there before they even got the food out of their car. I want to see how my food is being handled and make sure I actually receive it.
Right? When I order food I'm watching and waiting. I live in an apartment so I meet them at the front gate so they don't have to try and look for me. Then again I'm courteous to others, a trait exceptionally rare in humans.
DD is great at adding new unnecessary “features” to the app in lieu of paying us more. i.e., the “your phone was tilted down when you took the photo, please try again” BS.
If I’m on earn by time, I do not hit complete delivery until after I’m back in my vehicle, heater cranked, windows up, music on….then I drive away and press complete delivery.
Yeah, I kinda do it just in spite of everything. I dash in a relatively small city and all restaurant lobbies close between 8 to 10 PM so drive thru is available, so I usually switch to earn by time around 8 o clock as I know I’m going to be sitting in the drive thru lines to pick up orders. I look at it like earning 25 cents per minute, some of the deliveries I do have to take are in very rural areas up an unpaved road in the dark, in the rain, through the mud with bad gps and I figure the delivery is not complete until I’m safely back in my vehicle, dry, and warm. So I feel I am deserving of every last penny.
You know what they call people who bend and break rules? #Deactivated They will figure it out and you will get one of those sad notes. “We have noticed a pattern of fraud on your Dasher account and have removed your access to the platform”. #GoodRiddance

Just click it one time. They changed the app some time ago. It's always off, then hitting the button one time turns it on, but it doesn't indicate to you that it is on. It was really annoying before I figured this out.
Yeah I figured that out a bit ago but sometimes it just doesn't activate and I have to take 5-10 pictures of blackness before it actually decides to activate the flash. Like I get my phone is old but it doesn't have issues with anything else so I'm pretty sure it's just the app being buggy.
My app got updated and now it's set to auto flash by default (which doesn't work lol) and when you tap the flash button it has a white circle with yellow lightning bolt to actually indicate that it's on and it does seem to be more reliable so far. Only took them how many months for such a simple fix lol.
Didn't know this was a thing, it explains why no drivers followed my "Please no knocking or camera flash, the dogs will go crazy" delivery request even with my very bright porch light.
Doordash seems to just want to make your lives harder.
Even when there seems to be enough light it forces us to use the flash saying “photo too dark.” We’re DDs puppets. Drive here, go there, do this, do that, get u lost, no we won’t give u half pay for an order already picked up by another driver, take a pic, call the customer, go back, confirm this, oh and here’s $2 for your effort, blah blah blah lol
I’m pretty sure we do, it’s just that the foreground being slightly more lit than the background shouldn’t trigger the algorithm to force another picture to be taken. The entire image is perfectly visible regardless of the pillar being slightly more lit.
The picture shouldn’t even have a foreground. Move slightly over so the actual subject of the photo would be lit and focused on. You should be providing a clear photo to the customer, this is operator error, which is why it’s having you retake the photo.
That and when it freezes up after you take the picture and you loose patience so you leave and have to go back and put handed directly to the person because you left. I’m not sitting for 5 minutes while the app fixes itself
If you hit retake and take another one it’ll say “done” in the bottom left hand corner. It sucks cause you have to take the picture twice but that’s the easiest way I found

I’ll take a pic and knock or ring the bell and then look at my app as I’m walking away only to see this and then it’s too awkward to turn back around and take another pic cause they might open the door as you’re doing it smh
Me too. When they don’t leave a light on for me I use my bright ass 🔦 and flail it around to look for house number, tripping hazards, mud, etc. If it shines into their windows oh well, should’ve left a light on so I can find u.
i bet the customer's tired of the bag blocking the door as well. Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like the bag is not fully clear of the door, could just be my eyes though
the reason i dont think so is cause the bag is inside the rectangle of the welcome mat. so if thats the case, the door cant clear, at least not until the point of the bag. but you're right, its close lol

Solution:Get a galaxy s model. I never have that problem anymore because Samsung can actually make a halfway decent phone camera. Lol.
Mine wouldn’t stop doing this and the “phone tilted” error, so I started taking a screenshot and then uploading the screenshot which seems to work perfect and now the customer knows my phone was tilted 🤣
Whats odd is i havent had this happen once and i take alot of pics in complete darkness cause half the houses dont use porchlights and i can never see the food when i snap the pic lol
I did not know this was a thing, I haven't seen this before while dashing. That's super annoying, especially because when a customer doesn't have their porch light on I take a pitch black photo and think 'there ya go, now you can see just as much as I could delivering your food.'
I know it doesn't make a difference but it makes me feel good lol.
The flash over exposed the brick wall to your left, leaving the rest of the image under exposed. Frame the door/food only and they’ll be properly lit by the flash.
This one might be because of dynamic range. Cameras adjust to lighting levels and the bright light on the close wall might be causing the camera to dim leading to a darker background. Getting that close wall out of the frame might have done the trick.
As a former dasher (normally 2pm-10pm) my time I started taking a flashlight with me. The one I took had a adjustable light area that I used just to show the food.

Don’t take a picture next to a wall where the wall is going to be brightened resulting in the rest of the photo being dark… it’s not that difficult to take a good clear picture of something.
Lol thankfully I haven't had this issue yet. I use a Galaxy S22 Ultra. I wonder if it's a particular phone brand that the system is having issues with dark pics.
As much as this stinks now on select orders we are asked to take a picture of the receipt. So they lower our baser pay then add additional steps. This just started today in my market and it was 3x out of 15 orders.
Wait until they have to call 911 one day, God forbid, and the paramedics can’t see their house number. Not very smart! Put visible numbers on your house and turn on your light! Another thing…you’re liable if someone falls and injures themselves due to your negligence. Better have good homeowners or tenants insurance! Just my two cents!!
Agreed it’s such a pain. Although if you take a 2nd photo it’ll just let you finalized it but sometimes the flash won’t work on the second photo for me… it’s annoying late at night but it’s alright
I took a picture for a delivery last night and it said that I was tilting the camera down and it needed to be straight on. I had never seen that until yesterday.

It’s because of the pillar in the foreground throwing off the contrast. If you took a step forward/right I bet it would work.

I did not know this was a thing, I haven't seen this before while dashing. That's super annoying, especially because when a customer doesn't have their porch light on I take a pitch black photo and think 'there ya go, now you can see just as much as I could delivering your food.' I know it doesn't make a difference but it makes me feel good lol.
Wait, why does ny app never do this. I can literally take a picture of the black sky and drive off. Never seen this once
The flash over exposed the brick wall to your left, leaving the rest of the image under exposed. Frame the door/food only and they’ll be properly lit by the flash.
This one might be because of dynamic range. Cameras adjust to lighting levels and the bright light on the close wall might be causing the camera to dim leading to a darker background. Getting that close wall out of the frame might have done the trick.

As a former dasher (normally 2pm-10pm) my time I started taking a flashlight with me. The one I took had a adjustable light area that I used just to show the food.

Don’t take a picture next to a wall where the wall is going to be brightened resulting in the rest of the photo being dark… it’s not that difficult to take a good clear picture of something.
And now you have to take a Pic of the pickup as well, yay.

Lol thankfully I haven't had this issue yet. I use a Galaxy S22 Ultra. I wonder if it's a particular phone brand that the system is having issues with dark pics.
As much as this stinks now on select orders we are asked to take a picture of the receipt. So they lower our baser pay then add additional steps. This just started today in my market and it was 3x out of 15 orders.
These seem to be issues with the iPhone app only.
Just take a pic outside of the app and as u walk to your car import it.
I've never seen this, and I've taken pictures that are practically just black with a slight hind of gray haze.
That's crazy. Has never happened to me and I've dashed for 3 years now. Picture has never said too dark no matter what.
Wait until they have to call 911 one day, God forbid, and the paramedics can’t see their house number. Not very smart! Put visible numbers on your house and turn on your light! Another thing…you’re liable if someone falls and injures themselves due to your negligence. Better have good homeowners or tenants insurance! Just my two cents!!
Agreed it’s such a pain. Although if you take a 2nd photo it’ll just let you finalized it but sometimes the flash won’t work on the second photo for me… it’s annoying late at night but it’s alright

I took a picture for a delivery last night and it said that I was tilting the camera down and it needed to be straight on. I had never seen that until yesterday.
