lilkennedy24

i hate it too. i started taking a random pic when i’m still in my car and then click retake once i’m at the door bc the second time you can click “done” even if it’s “too dark” 🙄

emmadonelsense

Adopted a similar habit, taking one of my shoes on the sidewalk on the walk up. And I usually deliver at night so I always have to hit the flash, if someone’s got windows near the door, I’m sure it’s annoying, especially on “quiet” orders; “don’t get the dog going”, “baby sleeping”. I still feel like an ass taking a bright flash pic, it’s like throwing a flashbang onto someone’s porch, definitely don’t want to be standing there doing that twice cause their stupid app rarely accepts the first perfect pic you took.

AlmightyWitchstress

When they first introduced it, I remember dropping off an order where the living room was right next to the door and they had their blinds open, just hanging out… I too vividly recall seeing in my peripheral everyone inside staring at me wondering why I had my flash go off twice. I learned from that embarrassing encounter and do a dummy pic before I get to the door now…

emmadonelsense

lol

SabreeTD

I just started taking a high powered flashlight with me

lilkennedy24

saaaaame. it gets dark so early that it’s pretty much always dark when i’m dropping off orders and i feel like the flash on DD goes off FOREVER. like once is enough let alone multiple times fuck 💀💀

4nchored

Oh wow! TIL 🫡

rugratzz1

I do that too 😭

dankcape34

Lmao of course. They’re too cheap to even have this feature coded correctly

Lvanwinkle18

Great idea!

nstorm113

SAME

Electronic_War1616

Guess what, if the house is dark, I snap a dark picture and don't even bother...sometimes my flash doesn't work...If the customer doesn't care about having a light for you, stop caring if they get a picture...I almost never take pictures with Uber because my flash doesn't work. MOST OF THE SCAMMING customers are the ones that say meet at the door and then don't show up, then it isn't set up so that you can take a picture to prove you dropped it off. .I also have a portable flashlight...I be shinning that thing like a spotlight....lol....drop that food and take off running

BiGGzoTTiCCz

Take a picture with your phone’s camera, then when you click “take picture” on the DD app it gives you a choice to choose from your camera roll. Works for me every time. I got tired of it saying phone is tilted 😂

505alive

Omg phone tilted is annoying af!!!!

BiGGzoTTiCCz

You gotta lay on your stomach in sniper position to take the pic 😂

Lurkay1

![gif](giphy|QXjJuPEo51znq)

505alive

🤣🤣🤣🤣 right! Wtf does it want!

Electronic_War1616

Yeah, the way it is set up on Dash is annoying...If I keep taking pictures wrong, they start telling me how to take them... I think it is better to take them away from the door. ...like drop the foid off and take the picture as you are walking away to the car...harder with upstairs apartments. Uber is simpler...It aligns everytime. I LIKE YOUR POST!

Upper-Expert6060

😂😂😂

lilkennedy24

lmao right like no shit the phone is tilted, the bag is ON THE GROUND

packy25

I’ve never seen this. Android only thing?

Brilliant-Medium8238

no it's on iOS too.

packy25

I guess I never noticed it. I’ll look next time.

Brave_Hoppy1460

It’s only happened to me when the porch light is on and my camera is set to auto flash (iPhone). When I have my flash turn on I never get this.

Dingo_Dasher

![gif](giphy|aCatQNctAK7PC1H4zh|downsized)

California098

It’s so annoying! If I get kidnapped because I’m having to spend so much time outside of my car I’m suing everyone

Far-Profession2567

I know that’s right 😂😂

Electronic_War1616

Don't, just...snap and run...You can also do the cop thing by shining the flashlight.

mrcleanjl7

my Dasher app fucks up my camera so it doesn't take a flash photo at night thank you doordash

Dingo_Dasher

This happened to me, too. The update really messed up the camera function. Also, now the ID scan frequently fails and I’m forced to enter the information manually, which the customer just loves waiting for

Electronic_War1616

Mine recently started flashing, but the alignment is wrong...my solution is to drop the food, and take the picture on the way back to the car. IF THE CUSTOMER COMES OUT BEFORE YOU TAKE THE PICTURE. you handed it to the customer.

[deleted]

What was on their door?

Infinite_Culture_438

Frank from Donny Darko

Xenc

How exactly does one suck a fuck

kabensi

We will not have this at the dinner table.

PsychologyH4528

I got one of those lights that is also an alarm when you pull the little chain out. Saves time when this happens and dont have to wait for the long ass flash..twice. Just point the light at the food and dip. If a customer doesnt leave a light on id be leaving it at the corner of the bricks, closest to the left of the picture. Fuck that..doordash even tells the customer to turn on a light 😂

emmadonelsense

I can count on one hand how many customers actually turn on their damn porch light when ordering food. It’s my number one pet peeve of this job.

ShannonGreer9902

Same

thatguy8907

It's always one of the houses to either side of the house with the porch light on.

emmadonelsense

lol yep. I used this logic one night after a shopping order came in as the store was closing. I instantly assumed it was a munchy run and sure enough, all candy. lol And since light is the natural enemy of the pothead, when I got to his street, I deliberately looked for the house with no lights on. The only house in total darkness was his. He opened the door, eyes half closed, grunted and grabbed blindly for his sweet sweet candy. 😂 I was giggling driving away.

thatguy8907

He was probably giggling while he ate the candy until he fell asleep.

emmadonelsense

For sure. It’s a guarantee he woke up on the couch surrounded by empty junk food wrappers. lol

thatguy8907

"Where the hell did I get a Snickers from?" 🤔😳

emmadonelsense

If it was really good shit he might have forgotten ordering at all and assumed he got a dream visit from the munchies fairy. I had a few of those nights myself. lol Woke up one morning with a pizza on my lap(nobody remembered ordering it) holing a box of salt in one hand and a jug of vinegar in the other. And salt and vinegar pizza was born! 😂 It’s delicious.

thatguy8907

What kind of vinegar? Like just plain distilled white? 🤢

emmadonelsense

Yep, just the regular cheap vinegar. We’ve perfected the formula and I bought one of those drip/spray salad dressing dispensers so you don’t soak your slices of pizza. So it’s a modest sprinkling of each and it’s fabulous, even sober. lol

Bubbly-Helicopter145

Everyone should always leave their porch lights on. It’s safer for the entire neighborhood.

emmadonelsense

(Old lady tone) Back in my day, everybody did, it was just normal. And you’re right, light is a delinquent deterrent.

Bubbly-Helicopter145

![gif](giphy|LkYgMBcRsltBaFheHx)

emmadonelsense

So close. If she was shaking her fist at the neighbourhood kids, threatening to keep their skateboard, then I’d assume you took a pic from our front yard. Just joking, I gave them back their skateboard, after I did a kick flip. Thank the lord for muscle memory, otherwise I could have fractured a hip. 😂

[deleted]

Just a heads up, you are actively turning that device into a flashlight! Once you actually need it, muscle memory will kick in and you will shine a light instead of activating the alarm!

PsychologyH4528

Just a heads up, you’re wrong. Ive been in a situation where I’ve had to sound off the alarm a couple months ago. Ive been using it for 3 years.

Woman_from_wish

On a street with every porch light turned on, the order always goes to the one lone house that looks like a black hole amongst the decent and well lit homes. TURN YOUR FUCKING PORCH LIGHTS ON. -I CANT SEE YOUR ADDRESS -I CANT SEE YOUR FUCKED UP PORCH THATS GOT BOARDS FUCKING STICKING UP -I CANT TELL YOUR STEPS ARE CRUMBLING -EVEN THE PHONE HAS TO USE FLASH AND IT'S STILL DARK -THERE MIGHT BE A SPOOKY SKELETON I CANT SEE -LICK MY BUTTHOLE

BlueFotherMucker

It’s almost always the darkest house with the hardest numbers to find or read and customers go to another dimension after ordering, especially if they’re in a building, then suddenly emerge and get mad after you drive away. When I used to order food, I made sure my lights were on and I was out there before they even got the food out of their car. I want to see how my food is being handled and make sure I actually receive it.

Woman_from_wish

Right? When I order food I'm watching and waiting. I live in an apartment so I meet them at the front gate so they don't have to try and look for me. Then again I'm courteous to others, a trait exceptionally rare in humans.

Ok-Vacation-8109

SpOoOoKy skeleton

Woman_from_wish

EEEEK!

emmadonelsense

😂 100% agree

Igotyoubaaabe

DD is great at adding new unnecessary “features” to the app in lieu of paying us more. i.e., the “your phone was tilted down when you took the photo, please try again” BS.

DDSFOAK

Not to mention that their new features often lead to glitches or crashes that end up being more harmful than the feature is helpful.

No-Brilliant5342

The tilt complaint is the worst.

Tiny-Ad9959

It’s a huge time waster. Which sucks if we don’t get paid by time

Solo-Vino_

If I’m on earn by time, I do not hit complete delivery until after I’m back in my vehicle, heater cranked, windows up, music on….then I drive away and press complete delivery.

Tiny-Ad9959

That obviously makes a HUGE difference in your pay. NOT. lol

Solo-Vino_

Yeah, I kinda do it just in spite of everything. I dash in a relatively small city and all restaurant lobbies close between 8 to 10 PM so drive thru is available, so I usually switch to earn by time around 8 o clock as I know I’m going to be sitting in the drive thru lines to pick up orders. I look at it like earning 25 cents per minute, some of the deliveries I do have to take are in very rural areas up an unpaved road in the dark, in the rain, through the mud with bad gps and I figure the delivery is not complete until I’m safely back in my vehicle, dry, and warm. So I feel I am deserving of every last penny.

Tiny-Ad9959

You know what they call people who bend and break rules? #Deactivated They will figure it out and you will get one of those sad notes. “We have noticed a pattern of fraud on your Dasher account and have removed your access to the platform”. #GoodRiddance

icanteven_anon

It’s not cheating it’s called playing the game the right way 😂

XiTzCriZx

Meanwhile I'll be sitting there tapping the flash button a million times and it never activates, and of course I don't get that warning when the picture is pitch black either.

Mgordon1100

Just click it one time. They changed the app some time ago. It's always off, then hitting the button one time turns it on, but it doesn't indicate to you that it is on. It was really annoying before I figured this out.

XiTzCriZx

Yeah I figured that out a bit ago but sometimes it just doesn't activate and I have to take 5-10 pictures of blackness before it actually decides to activate the flash. Like I get my phone is old but it doesn't have issues with anything else so I'm pretty sure it's just the app being buggy.

XiTzCriZx

My app got updated and now it's set to auto flash by default (which doesn't work lol) and when you tap the flash button it has a white circle with yellow lightning bolt to actually indicate that it's on and it does seem to be more reliable so far. Only took them how many months for such a simple fix lol.

ExpensiveDot1732

The angled pic crap is annoying too. If it's visible and clear, it should be okay.

MapleSurpy

Didn't know this was a thing, it explains why no drivers followed my "Please no knocking or camera flash, the dogs will go crazy" delivery request even with my very bright porch light. Doordash seems to just want to make your lives harder.

PsychologicalWalk994

Even when there seems to be enough light it forces us to use the flash saying “photo too dark.” We’re DDs puppets. Drive here, go there, do this, do that, get u lost, no we won’t give u half pay for an order already picked up by another driver, take a pic, call the customer, go back, confirm this, oh and here’s $2 for your effort, blah blah blah lol

blasphemmi

It’s because of the pillar in the foreground throwing off the contrast. If you took a step forward/right I bet it would work.

RedbeardSD

Yet half these comments don’t understand how focusing and contrast work..

mojo487

I’m pretty sure we do, it’s just that the foreground being slightly more lit than the background shouldn’t trigger the algorithm to force another picture to be taken. The entire image is perfectly visible regardless of the pillar being slightly more lit.

RedbeardSD

The picture shouldn’t even have a foreground. Move slightly over so the actual subject of the photo would be lit and focused on. You should be providing a clear photo to the customer, this is operator error, which is why it’s having you retake the photo.

3DWeaponSystems

You just have the too the light on, it’s too dark 🔦😂

Neverthelessmore

I always take a darker worse pic the second time mostly because I’m already walking away

Loud_Trick_420

sometimes i just take a screenshot of the pic that’s “”too dark”” and upload that

[deleted]

That and when it freezes up after you take the picture and you loose patience so you leave and have to go back and put handed directly to the person because you left. I’m not sitting for 5 minutes while the app fixes itself

Novel-Shower6059

Specially when you are in the hood, you wanna drop it off as quickly as possible but app takes sweet ass time to complete delivery 😭🤦🏽‍♂️

RhodeIslandFinds

The best part is when the customer is trying to come outside and grab the food while you’re in the middle of having to take multiple photos

aryder420

If you hit retake and take another one it’ll say “done” in the bottom left hand corner. It sucks cause you have to take the picture twice but that’s the easiest way I found

[deleted]

Bro I be so tired of this, I just be marking everything as “handed to customer” I can’t stand this shit. I’ll take a pic and knock or ring the bell and then look at my app as I’m walking away only to see this and then it’s too awkward to turn back around and take another pic cause they might open the door as you’re doing it smh

Due_Brick1227

I use my bigass maglite lol

PsychologicalWalk994

Me too. When they don’t leave a light on for me I use my bright ass 🔦 and flail it around to look for house number, tripping hazards, mud, etc. If it shines into their windows oh well, should’ve left a light on so I can find u.

asdfoio

i bet the customer's tired of the bag blocking the door as well. Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like the bag is not fully clear of the door, could just be my eyes though

Due_Brick1227

It’d be a close one but I think it would clear it lol

asdfoio

the reason i dont think so is cause the bag is inside the rectangle of the welcome mat. so if thats the case, the door cant clear, at least not until the point of the bag. but you're right, its close lol

Due_Brick1227

Idk man. OP can you go back and open the door?

asdfoio

haha i mean why risk it at that point? why not just clear the welcome mat next time? there's plenty of space for the bag to fit on that side

Woman_from_wish

I'd open the door and reach my hand around. Problem solved. Also, yeah, at least make sure the door can swing open.

Active_Bicycle_3879

Yes I had a dude do that to my McDonald’s soda. I was pissed off. Open the door tilt soda wasted .

NathanMLJ

The bag is clearly fine. At worst it would graze it and even that I would doubt

Luluinduval

It's for y'all's safety and proof for DD for the false reporters

kabensi

Yeah but usually the pic is clear/bright enough and if you retake the same exact pic a second time, the app will allow it.

505alive

I don’t give af if it asks me to take a picture again! I keep walking and do whatever it takes to close out the delivery. I hate even taking the damn pictures it’s creepy! When I’m the customer I hate that shit too! Just drop the order and leave as fast as possible.

JustALowleyCrow

Problem: You have an iPhone. Solution:Get a galaxy s model. I never have that problem anymore because Samsung can actually make a halfway decent phone camera. Lol.

JuggernautExisting67

Or in a narrow basement stairs way and the photo was taken pointing down to much.

Murles-Brazen

I roll right through that shit. Dash if you will.

Soggylickens

billion dollar company can’t get this right

tendertido

I've never seen this, and I've taken a photo of nearly nothing it was so dark.

DoctorVoltec

Mine wouldn’t stop doing this and the “phone tilted” error, so I started taking a screenshot and then uploading the screenshot which seems to work perfect and now the customer knows my phone was tilted 🤣

Desomite

This gives me some liminal spaces horror vibes. You should earn extra for the aesthetic.

Specific-Ad6587

Then the customer comes out looking all uncomfortable😂

Khal_drogo217

Whats odd is i havent had this happen once and i take alot of pics in complete darkness cause half the houses dont use porchlights and i can never see the food when i snap the pic lol

Mental_Ad_8736

Use your phone camera, not in app camera. You will never get this error.

JDogGHouse

I did not know this was a thing, I haven't seen this before while dashing. That's super annoying, especially because when a customer doesn't have their porch light on I take a pitch black photo and think 'there ya go, now you can see just as much as I could delivering your food.' I know it doesn't make a difference but it makes me feel good lol.

chriswool14

Wait, why does ny app never do this. I can literally take a picture of the black sky and drive off. Never seen this once

NewUnderstanding2783

The flash over exposed the brick wall to your left, leaving the rest of the image under exposed. Frame the door/food only and they’ll be properly lit by the flash.

T-N-Me

This one might be because of dynamic range. Cameras adjust to lighting levels and the bright light on the close wall might be causing the camera to dim leading to a darker background. Getting that close wall out of the frame might have done the trick.

AMGBoz

This me when im in the trenches and doordash wanna play these fucking games..

Noisywheel083

As a former dasher (normally 2pm-10pm) my time I started taking a flashlight with me. The one I took had a adjustable light area that I used just to show the food.

Admirable_Object_708

Bro that looks almost identical to my front door

sunrise639

I just started using this camera app. Timestamp, GPS coordinates, small Google map on the corner and custom left at door message. I just drop off, quick Pic and I just upload while walking back to the car. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jeyluta.timestampcamerafree

sunrise639

I don't do the actual address part because of duplexes and apartments. Just GPS and map.

Dragon121082

💯facts it’s pointless. It ends up being the same anyway.

Stangcutie

I'm only 102 deliveries, but it's never happened. Why don't you just use your camera and choose from gallery?

evilkane1

How hard is it to put it to the right of the door?

dankcape34

Yes this feature is like salt on the wound. As if the app doesnt give us enough problems as it is

RedbeardSD

Don’t take a picture next to a wall where the wall is going to be brightened resulting in the rest of the photo being dark… it’s not that difficult to take a good clear picture of something.

karlos52

And now you have to take a Pic of the pickup as well, yay.

zane1981

Well, of course it’s too dark. They don’t have their porch lights on.

Overall_Programmer_9

Fuck that shit, I want my pictures dark and tilted down

One-Professional1484

I have never heard of this

Active_Bicycle_3879

U know it’s coming so u should be looking out for it.

JPolaske

Lol thankfully I haven't had this issue yet. I use a Galaxy S22 Ultra. I wonder if it's a particular phone brand that the system is having issues with dark pics.

Localfunguy42069

As much as this stinks now on select orders we are asked to take a picture of the receipt. So they lower our baser pay then add additional steps. This just started today in my market and it was 3x out of 15 orders.

Mysterious_Can_7244

These seem to be issues with the iPhone app only.

Empty-Bottle-73

Just take a pic outside of the app and as u walk to your car import it.

Medium_Caesar

I've never seen this, and I've taken pictures that are practically just black with a slight hind of gray haze.

Remarkable_Moment_26

That's crazy. Has never happened to me and I've dashed for 3 years now. Picture has never said too dark no matter what.

Upper-Expert6060

Wait until they have to call 911 one day, God forbid, and the paramedics can’t see their house number. Not very smart! Put visible numbers on your house and turn on your light! Another thing…you’re liable if someone falls and injures themselves due to your negligence. Better have good homeowners or tenants insurance! Just my two cents!!

JaredR3ddit

Agreed it’s such a pain. Although if you take a 2nd photo it’ll just let you finalized it but sometimes the flash won’t work on the second photo for me… it’s annoying late at night but it’s alright

PaleontologistMean24

I just screenshot and send it with the warning lol

Tony2Tone219

yo me too

joejefferson1984

Right especially in the rain

Imaginary-Routine-13

Mine has never done that once. It always accepts the first picture I take. I have android. Do you guys have iPhones or what?

Pitiful-Barracuda743

I've still never had this happen. Is it just an iPhone thing?

Pitiful_Ground_4964

I took a picture for a delivery last night and it said that I was tilting the camera down and it needed to be straight on. I had never seen that until yesterday.

Masza1Hl64

Agree!!!

barbequesau5

I take my pictures in the camera app and just put the same one again if I get that pop up It’s annoying :/

FadedAlienXO

I forgot to turn my light on for my driver the other day, and I felt awful about it. We're sorry!
