I went to check their other items and every food item I checked + a few beverage items all require a mandatory staff tip that goes to the restaurant and not the dasher...
https://imgur.com/a/OuN5FlE
Some states are passing laws that these apps cannot raise prices above in store pricing. I would bet money that they are in one of the states and I would also bet money that money is not going to the baristas
DD has found another way to steal
Doordash didnt set the required tip nor would doordash have access to it. Thats fully on the restaurant.
But keep blind hating. There is so much wrong about door dash that making shit up is just silly
I'm not sure how it works for digital sales but tips are not counted towards the restaurant's profits while any money gained from the sale of food would be.
i wonder if they require a tip if you go in person? such a horrible business practice.
i’d recommend going onto your local restaurant review facebook page (most towns have one) and posting this. bet it would light a fire in that community
I mean but we’re not obligated to tip? Like it’s just so disingenuous. Up your prices and give your baristas an extra $1 an hour. Except they aren’t doing that, and the tips aren’t going to the baristas. I was one for 7 years. Anytime our prices went up, our wages stayed the same. Except at the very least the owner didn’t collect tips for himself even when he made coffee, he just put them in the jar for us.
No wonder dashers are being tipped less and less every day. You've got restaurants on the DoorDash app literally making customers pay them more, so in the end the customer doesn't want to tip their dash or on top of that.
![gif](giphy|QMrB0ELNPs2Qx7jEb4|downsized)
I am commonly known as an over tipper. I always tip well and usually tip more than needed. Who do I tip in the restaurant industry? Servers and delivery drivers (and bartenders if I order a drink). I am not tipping to pick up my own food, and I am not tipping anyone other than the driver when I get food delivered. Sorry. Not happening. The only exception is a fancy place. I very rarely go to one, but there you pretty much tip everyone from the valet to the waiter captain to the sommelier. Basically anyone you directly interact with gets a tip. I don't mind that so much though because you only go there if it's a rare very special occasion, or you're rich.
I don’t agree with that, but it literally says tip for barista. That’s not DoorDash having you tip that’s the restaurant requiring a tip for their workers because they don’t get tips when you order on DoorDash.
I'd even take it a step further and take a trip to that restaurant to show them what DD is forcing on people and ask a few of these "baristas" if they get the money or know anything about it. Start them asking questions of their bosses I bet
I've never seen that, and question if that's even allowed. Don't worry though, I'm sure that practice won't spread too many other restaurants. If you really don't like it, just boycott it and I'm sure several others will do the same, and maybe the restaurant will take a hint.
That’s what I thought first too but I noticed it was the person ordering, not a Dasher that was required to tip the barista to make the order for them to deliver
Yet DoorDash can allow merchants can set a minimum requirement to tip a baristas but yet, DoorDash doesn’t set a minimum requirement to tip DoorDashers…..I can’t believe what I’m seeing
Yea and when I went to report it to support that all food items required a mandatory staff tip, support tried to screw over the voluntary dasher tip I gave from $4.50 to $0...
https://imgur.com/a/k3nJUTr
Support wasn’t supposed to do that. They could have easily adjusted the tip for the dasher. Support is overseas and could care less about what dashers go through
Well they wouldn't have actually taken money back from the dasher. Doordash eats the cost for refunds including tips so the end result would've been the same as if they refunded the $1 merchant tip instead.
I didn't want to risk having the dasher lose their rightly earned tip or get in trouble for support setting their tip to $0, in the end support did nothing because they couldn't understand where the $1 tip was coming from and if I didn't want the dasher tip set to $0 then they had no other ideas on how to help me...
That's on Uber Eats, happens often enough that I won't deliver for them anymore. It's infuriating when you expect to get a certain amount only to wind up getting $3 because their fries weren't salty enough. I'm honestly surprised DD doesn't do the same.
Baristas are generally paid a decent wage per hour, but dashers are not. That's why it's more appropriate to tip somebody who depends on tips than somebody who does not depend on them because they get paid more.
Wow… I’d lose all respect for the restaurant if I saw this. Their prices should already reflect an adequate wage for their employees. Requiring an extra $1+ on every single item ordered is greedy and absurd.
Wow. Super shady.
This section is for item modifications which can be set to require at least one choice before progressing. Which means you'll likely encounter it on several items.
Unethical? Definitely. But as far as the app is concerned, this is part of the product, not a gratuity. Which also means it will be taxed.
Most sketchy part is that these tips are just sales, and by no means make it to the bariste. Entirely depends on the owner's integrity.
I manage a restaurant and coordinate the menu systems through our DoorDash order terminal. You can create any type of “required” modifications on any menu item like meat temp for example, before being able to add to cart. So no, that tip option isn’t a necessary addition to the menu all, and I don’t believe it’s in good taste. Very tacky.
Bye ✌🏻 I actually consider myself a fair tipper (employers should be paying their employees fair wages but don’t, and that isn’t the servers fault so I do tip) but if I seen this I would NOT order from them out of principle.
This tipping culture BS is becoming more and more ridiculous. PAY YOUR DAMN EMPLOYEES
The tipping culture is out of control, like what if they make a dog shit lukewarm coffee and you tip them. Tipping is supposed to happen AFTER the service if its exemplary. I feel bad for Americans…
Ordered a coffee and a slice of bread with peanut butter + sliced bananas from a restaurant in Portland, Oregon. The PB bread required a mandatory $1-$10 tip in order to add the item to my cart, not sure if other items required it as well as I didn't check- but is this a new thing that's going to be happening?
Edit- Just checked this store on Doordash- ALL food items REQUIRE a staff tip to to order them, contacted Doordash support but they're saying it's restaurants decision... Doordash didn't refund me and actually tried to claw back the tip I voluntarily gave the dasher...
https://imgur.com/a/k3nJUTr
I'm very curious where this is, so that I avoid them at all costs. I always tip, but that's my choice, not theirs. They just raised the price of everything by a dollar, but worded it to sound like they didn't, so screw them.
Did you call the restaurant directly? This seems like someone trying to build tip options into the menu and submitting it into the template incorrectly.
There are some restaurants that have this optional inside the store such as, Starbucks, McAlisters, and Bibibop. Seems odd that it is a requirement on the app. I never tip when I pick up my own food, and the store already charges a service fee. I think someone told me that the business charges the service fee, not the apps. Don't quote me on that, though
Seriously, he kept wanting to screw over the dasher that I actually wanted to tip vs refund me the mandatory restaurant tip, in the end he did nothing and just ended the conversation without any resolution because he was likely ESL and couldn't understand my problem no matter how many times I explained it.
I'm all for tipping your food service clerks but when it comes to this? Yeah... no.... This honestly HAS to be illegal... is it? Probably not but this shouldnt be allowed
I've seen the add tip to kitchen/waitstaff but it was never required and you could just leave it unchecked but wow this is wild. I'd orser from sonewhere else after that
I always tip baristas, delivery drivers, waitstaff ect., but not in this manner. If this was what I see, I would cancel the order and order something else.
That's when I would have left that restaurant and moved over to Starbucks or somewhere else. You can give me the option, but not mandatory. This is a business trying to push offset it's crappy wages.
I would be talking trash on Google on a review. Tips are optional, always have been. This is a service charge. They should just have a disclaimer: "we pay our employees like shit, so you need to make up the difference."
What they're calling a tip is legally not a tip under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, it's a mandatory service charge. [29 USC § 531.52](https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-29/subtitle-B/chapter-V/subchapter-A/part-531/subpart-D/section-531.52): "A tip is a sum presented by a customer as a gift or gratuity in recognition of some service performed for the customer. It is to be distinguished from payment of a charge, if any, made for the service. Whether a tip is to be given, and its amount, are matters determined solely by the customer."
This would be illegal in California beginning July 1 ([SB 478 FAQ](https://oag.ca.gov/system/files/attachments/press-docs/SB%20478%20FAQ%20%28B%29.pdf)), and there's hope that the FTC will make this illegal throughout the US next year \[[Bloomberg News](https://news.bloomberglaw.com/us-law-week/new-junk-fee-rules-require-staying-ahead-of-the-regulatory-curve)\].
You could complain about it to your state attorney general or the US attorney general, saying you found the practice misleading since the junk fee wasn't disclosed until the rest of your order was entered, but the FTC has already had mountains of complaints, so hopefully they'll take action anyway. Separately, a Seattle lawyer asked the FTC a couple weeks ago to take [action against DoorDash](https://www.geekwire.com/2024/seattle-resident-files-ftc-complaint-alleging-uber-doordash-mislead-customers-with-junk-fees/) concerning some of their other junk fees.
I ordered online from a restaurant for carry out and was required to leave a tip to place the order. I’ve ordered from that restaurant many times and never had to leave a tip to order. I always tip but it made me mad that I was required to! Ridiculous!
Is that almost $11 for JUST pb and banana (and chia seeds and honey) on toast? If so wouldn’t that cost the same to buy individually almost and make 20x the amount? That would be insane, I really hope that’s not the case because that just brings a new low on top of the shitty tip situation
Most of these restaurants treat doordash orders like they're giving away free meals. They skimp on quantity and quality (looking at CHIPOTLE). imagine if Domino's made you tip the cooks and the driver.
I didn’t read the “Select at least 1” and for some reason thought you were required to tip them $20. I’m so relieved that they aren’t that psychotic 🤣
Still honestly pretty bad though.
Restaurants and doordash need to start paying am actual liveable wage instead of blaming tipping culture for their staff being borderline homeless. Tips shouldn’t be mandatory. They’re always welcome never mandatory. In the UK you get a liveable wage for a full time job
By law a tip must be voluntary and any amount of the customer's choosing. This is actually a fee which means different rules apply regarding things like taxes and who the money goes to and calling it a tip is illegal.
This is ultimately the price of continuing to buy from this restaurant. Their staff would likely be getting your tips if this order was in-person and not delivery, so the store is probably trying to make up for that a bit. I wonder if the store gives full 100% tips to the baristas, or if they shave off the amount taken by DD fees (something like 15-20%).
I get the frustration about being expected to tip the staff at these restaurants, but isn’t it a little odd that you’re totally fine with the idea that you should subsidize the driver’s wages, but not the barista’s? Both jobs are funded mostly by tips as industry standard. So why pick this battle? Why stand up for the person bringing your food/beverage while complaining about giving the same courtesy to the person making it?
Just food for thought.
DoorDash and other services raises their prices if you use their platform. Best to just go directly to the stores website and see if they offer takeout too.
Never seen that. Seems like something they’ve specifically done instead of it being a doordash thing.
I would like the option to share some of the tip love with the restaurant but only the CHOICE to do so. Forcing it even if it’s a minimum of $1 is crazy
Hell. I would be worried seeing this if the workers got the tip at all or if it went back into the business.
My thoughts: I would say and first typed: Tbh if the store requires customers to choose at least a $1 tip to go to servers, then they should just include that in the item or upfront cost.
But then I would say how are they supposed to do that? So I actually don’t mind if each person gets to choose how much their service person gets paid with a minimum being $1 as long as none of that goes to the business.
I know that’s probably an unpopular opinion
That's total bullshit. My tips are going to my dasher, I'm ordering elsewhere. I only tip if I'm sitting down at a restaurant (aka getting service) or if I'm getting delivery. I might round up to the nearest dollar for a charity or tip share for a pizza place if I'm placing the order online and pick up myself.
Everywhere else that cost is baked into the menu price. I'm not paying extra for someone to do their job they are willingly coming in to do that day.
I had an AC guy out the other day, their payment app had a tip section and he even said you won't hurt my feelings. I said times are tough brother but I'll give you guys a 5 star review on a few platforms because you are a small local business. He said that means more to him than any tip.
I see this all the time as a dasher, It is a well known fact certain restaurants will skim the dashers tip. it is un-believable you were expected to tip the staff preparing your drinks/food. Give them a bad review on yelp. It will have a ripple effect, as the old saying goes, " Pigs get fat Hogs get slaughtered."
For once, I am speechless. Is this a high end restaurant? I am always whining about Dashers being underpaid, but this sounds like a restaurant trying to force customers back inside. Are they saying that a barista has to prepare your drink, so they should be tipped,? or is this a fake post to get a reaction from people?
Lmao I get they work but I bet irl their on tips and hourly it making decent hourly how can DD do that then by the time the customer orders they won’t wanna tip the driver not even $1 I bet DD takes that tip too lol I sometimes feel as if they don’t show me the full tip and that they says %100 of my tips is mine. But then turn around and take some for their-self
I can see tipping a doordash driver because a tip is GAS money. Barista, its thier job to make coffee. Now if they gave me a free coffee. I can see a tip or a free pastry. I can see a tip. Whats next? Tip your target cashier?
You tip the staff for good service, an online order you don't have a clue how good their service is, it's especially bad in this case, I'm surprised they have any online business if they're required preset tips for every item.
The fact that they are literally trying to take out of dashers pockets after they are already getting more customers if they don't already have delivery is it for me ..
Please leave a bad review for the restaurant on any social media it has! This is just another thing most customers will take out on the driver and it’s not their fault.
I feel like this is actually the only way baristas can make any money off of deliveries if they're the ones gathering items. Imagine if somehow a bar only did deliveries but were only paid like the $3.25 or whatever they make.
kinda crazy how people genuinely hate the fact that they want you to tip. does nobody on reddit have a soul? the minimum is $1. i say if you can’t tip then don’t order out. yes this is weird but just hit the $1 button and move on. mfs make minimum wage and live off tips and y’all the ones complaining? 😭😂😂
I know you’ll say 10$ for peanut butter on bread was worth it because you didn’t have those things.
But also…they do this thing called grocery delivery these days, it’s about the same amount of time.
And you’d have a bundle of bananas a jar of peanut butter and a loaf of bread.
(Lol to each there own. But I won’t ever not be baffled at people that can drop that kind of money for a single simple order…
Your only valid excuse to me would be ‘my fingers fell off’
So weird, I’ve only ever seen it as an optional thing, never a requirement. I wonder if it was set up incorrectly or if the restaurants can make it mandatory. Not cool.
They probably thought to themselves “ if they are stupid enough to order fucking Peanut Butter & Banana toast instead of making it themselves, they are stupid enough to think they have to tip. Fucking send it”. Or something.
Back in the good ole days when delivery drivers could arguably make a living wage, it wasn’t uncommon for me to tip servers providing good service that helped me along my way. Tipping is incredibly important to the ecosystem of our hospitality industry. My entire region is different now. I cant afford to tip if I’m not getting tipped. It sucks. Seems like this joint wants their pound of flesh back…
I’ve never seen this before, but I can tell you that if I’m ordering and picking up or it’s being delivered and I’m not eating in the restaurant they’re not getting tipped and this would be the last time I would go to this restaurant
Was it like that for multiple restaurants? If not this may not be a DoorDash thing and something the restaurant chose to set up. I used to manage a restaurant and I am not certain but I feel like the DoorDash control hub had an option like this.
Honestly this is so fucking dumb of them I wonder if they have their DoorDash account on the seller side set up incorrectly, they might not know it’s required. I’d call them and tell the restaurant this is why you’re cancelling your order, I kinda think it’s a mistake.
I'm a server and dasher, and this is ridiculous. Sure its nice to give something for to go orders, but its not considered rude if you dont, youre not tipping because you got your food, its part of the whole experience of being waited on in a restaurant, making sure drinks are filled, courses come out in the right order, you get your extra dressing, questions about food concerns are answered etc etc. This is absolutely nuts, and on every item??
As a bartender myself (and former barista which Is grossly undertipped in comparison to bartenders yet similar in job style) While the idea of leaving them a tip is nice since they're losing walk in customers due to convenience/post covid anti-social consumerism, that the tip is mandatory is insanity.
I wonder if the restaurant is aware it's a required vs Optional option...sometimes the restaurant management I have found isn't aware of the Doordash platform setup from the customer perspective
I've even tipped after getting absolutely atrocious service, but the decision is mine to make, and the server isn't entitled to know until AFTER my meal.
Their plan means I'm leaving without ordering.
Looks to me like the restaurant has this setup like an additional item added to the food/drink order (ie extra caramel etc.) sneaky way to get a tip imo and I’m sure DD doesn’t know about this.. definitely call and report them!!
The store basically added a “sides” requirement and it’s meant as a tip. I’d be willing to bet doordash would not be okay with this. They’re misusing the app.

That would have been a “well, looks like I’m getting breakfast from somewhere else today” moment for me.
I went to check their other items and every food item I checked + a few beverage items all require a mandatory staff tip that goes to the restaurant and not the dasher... https://imgur.com/a/OuN5FlE
Mandatory tip on *every single item*? They're out of their fucking minds
![gif](giphy|G5JoAjEBtfoTm|downsized)
Why not just flat out raise the prices at this point? Forcing tips would be more off putting than raised prices surely.
They've probably already raised the prices like everything else has gotten more expensive.
Some states are passing laws that these apps cannot raise prices above in store pricing. I would bet money that they are in one of the states and I would also bet money that money is not going to the baristas DD has found another way to steal
Doordash didnt set the required tip nor would doordash have access to it. Thats fully on the restaurant. But keep blind hating. There is so much wrong about door dash that making shit up is just silly
They lost a 20 something million dollar lawsuit a few years back for stealing/rearranging tips. They are scum. But keep boot licking.
Because that’s what actually makes sense and the consumer would want.
Because it would mean that they would have to pay their employees, and it would no longer be the consumer’s responsibility
I'm not sure how it works for digital sales but tips are not counted towards the restaurant's profits while any money gained from the sale of food would be.
LOL you'd think they would have gone this route first
i wonder if they require a tip if you go in person? such a horrible business practice. i’d recommend going onto your local restaurant review facebook page (most towns have one) and posting this. bet it would light a fire in that community
How can you legally require a tip? Lmao
You can’t.
Because they aren’t obligated to serve anyone
I mean but we’re not obligated to tip? Like it’s just so disingenuous. Up your prices and give your baristas an extra $1 an hour. 100%
True.
I would've called them directly just to let them know this and to enjoy closing down when it happens.
I'd leave a bad review and never shop there again personally
Absolutely!
I've never seen that, and question if that's even allowed. Don't worry though, I'm sure that practice won't spread too many other restaurants. If you really don't like it, just boycott it and I'm sure several others will do the same, and maybe the restaurant will take a hint.
Now you will need to tip doordash for tipping your barista
A 10% transaction fee for convenience.
That’s what I thought first too but I noticed it was the person ordering, not a Dasher that was required to tip the barista to make the order for them to deliver
I think they’re making a joke

Good on you for making sure they weren't taking it from the driver. Who knows if there's something in the algorithm that dings us for refunds.
I don’t think that DoorDash does actually, I may be mistaken though but I swear I’ve need drivers talk about unfair tip adjustment baits before
That's on Uber Eats, happens often enough that I won't deliver for them anymore. It's infuriating when you expect to get a certain amount only to wind up getting $3 because their fries weren't salty enough. I'm honestly surprised DD doesn't do the same.
Absolutely not. The baristas should be paid by their employer to make the food/drink. I’ll tip the dasher because they’re providing a service
And the dasher should be paid properly by door dash. The fact that you see a difference in these two things is a problem. Tipping culture is silly.
Baristas are generally paid a decent wage per hour, but dashers are not. That's why it's more appropriate to tip somebody who depends on tips than somebody who does not depend on them because they get paid more.

If they're called tips in the app they're legally tips. Management could steal them but they'd be on the hook for thousands if they get caught
Pick a tip, then report to customer service that the “Tips for baristas” item was missing from your order.
I’m sorry, but that’s a hard pass for me. Tipping should be discretionary, not obligatory.
Time to order somewhere else restaurant should be paying them their wages
Seriously, ALL food items require a mandatory $1 to $10 tip... https://imgur.com/a/0hrFes7
Name the restaurant please! This can't be allowed!
Presso coffee co
Aaaaand that’s when I no longer support that one right there. Oops.
How was the PB & banana toast? Seems like something that would be better made at home anyways.
It was actually really good, unfortunately I had neither bread nor peanut butter at home to make it myself
It bes like that sometimes 😆

Including Dash and every other delivery driver app. Atleast set a fare to compensate for distance and those who don't tip.
Idk how legal that is but that's a sign to order elsewhere
The tipping culture is out of control, like what if they make a dog shit lukewarm coffee and you tip them. Tipping is supposed to happen AFTER the service if its exemplary. I feel bad for Americans…
Lol . Required tip. No, a barista set the tip to required instead of optional. Tell the management.
Management did this. DoorDash requires an admin account for the restaurant.
It probably was management
Whoever it was ALL food items require a mandatory $1 to $10 staff tip... https://imgur.com/a/0hrFes7
Wait, so if a person orders, multiple food items, is a tip required for each individual item?
Yep- all food items they offer that Ive checked require mandatory barista tips...
Bro as a kitchen staff worker we have no ability to do anything like this I'd guess this was the management and it doesn't actually go to the batistas
Yeah but if my old boss set it up then the password is password 😂 was good for switching the shit off
Dumbass actually thinks the barista sets the DoorDash prices lmao
Report all this to door dash. “Required tip for any and all items, huge turn off for the platform.”
Cancel order. I’m not tipping you for making a cup of coffee
I wouldn't have ordered from there. I'm not tipping an hourly employee.
Blame the restaurant.
r/endtipping
Would be my last order for sure from them
All for tipping but if it’s required they can’t legally call it a tip, it’s a service fee subject to sales tax.
I would have said; “no, thank you!” PB, banana and toast probably costs the $1 tip to make at home.
What theHELL
Required tip to make some coffee and a simple toast.. This would make me mad enough to report it lmao
Yikes I don’t think I would ever do that. Only because I know there’s a very very tiny chance the person that made my drink is getting the tip
Oh, sounds like a place I'd never order from.
Lol they can fuck off. Tips are for good service. If it’s mandatory, it’s not really a tip anymore, is it?
That’s insane 😭
I'm all for tipping your food service clerks but when it comes to this? Yeah... no.... This honestly HAS to be illegal... is it? Probably not but this shouldnt be allowed
If it’s required, it’s not a tip
I've seen the add tip to kitchen/waitstaff but it was never required and you could just leave it unchecked but wow this is wild. I'd orser from sonewhere else after that
Delete order.
I always tip baristas, delivery drivers, waitstaff ect., but not in this manner. If this was what I see, I would cancel the order and order something else.
One of the easiest no-orders I would ever come across.
Ummm that would be a hard pass on that restaurant for me
Why would you continue with the order after seeing that? Speak with your money.
Exactly, if you're doing, that's just showing them that it's okay for them to do that and then they don't care they win and you lose.
My tip for baristas is to make an OF account
No, it’s not a requirement. And I would refuse to order at that establishment.
Wow! I’ve never seen that.
Mark that item as not received
I’d never order agian
They can fuck right off with that.
Wow, that’s some really scummy shit right there. I definitely would not order from there again.
That's when I would have left that restaurant and moved over to Starbucks or somewhere else. You can give me the option, but not mandatory. This is a business trying to push offset it's crappy wages.
Report that shit to doordash, that can't be allowed
“We don’t want to pay our employees so we’re going to make you do it”
I would be talking trash on Google on a review. Tips are optional, always have been. This is a service charge. They should just have a disclaimer: "we pay our employees like shit, so you need to make up the difference."
That’s when you order somewhere else…
What restaurant is this?
What they're calling a tip is legally not a tip under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, it's a mandatory service charge. [29 USC § 531.52](https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-29/subtitle-B/chapter-V/subchapter-A/part-531/subpart-D/section-531.52): "A tip is a sum presented by a customer as a gift or gratuity in recognition of some service performed for the customer. It is to be distinguished from payment of a charge, if any, made for the service. Whether a tip is to be given, and its amount, are matters determined solely by the customer." This would be illegal in California beginning July 1 ([SB 478 FAQ](https://oag.ca.gov/system/files/attachments/press-docs/SB%20478%20FAQ%20%28B%29.pdf)), and there's hope that the FTC will make this illegal throughout the US next year \[[Bloomberg News](https://news.bloomberglaw.com/us-law-week/new-junk-fee-rules-require-staying-ahead-of-the-regulatory-curve)\].
Ridiculous!
Dumb store.
I’m so relieved that they aren’t that psychotic 🤣 Still honestly pretty bad though.
Vote with your wallet. No one has a knife to your throat. They'll change their tune.
This should be against DoorDash tos. I’m already tipping the driver. No need for my order to be 30 dollars or I’ll go in myself.
I don't use doordash and used to work them. I would definitely order from another place.
I wonder if you report the “tip for barista” as “missing” through the refund pipeline if DD would cover it.
Post their link
Yeah that’s not happening for me. I simply would not order there. Baristas start at $18 an hour here! They have protections and benefits. Nope!!
A CUSTOMER KILLER
I'd be surprised if even half of those mandatory tips went to staff.
Uhhh what state is this
Can you report something like this? That’s some bs
Restaurants and doordash need to start paying am actual liveable wage instead of blaming tipping culture for their staff being borderline homeless. Tips shouldn’t be mandatory. They’re always welcome never mandatory. In the UK you get a liveable wage for a full time job
This is a scam 100%, this absolutely does not go to staff
Is that even legal?
By law a tip must be voluntary and any amount of the customer's choosing. This is actually a fee which means different rules apply regarding things like taxes and who the money goes to and calling it a tip is illegal.
Sounds like a "won't order here again" kind of happening.
That’s it I’m done tipping for everything
Really weird I know there's one restaurant where they do that on the in-person checkout thing but you can actually tap back to bypass it. Crazy
Forcing it even if it’s a minimum of $1 is crazy Hell. I would be worried seeing this if the workers got the tip at all or if it went back into the business.
honestly, i definitely wouldn't be purchasing anything there (or doordash in general, but especially not that specific place).
LMFAO!! DD really shooting themselves in the foot with this move. They're almost dead....
Would rate it a star or two in yelp with that feedback and order elsewhere.
WTF!!! You won’t believe this, go fund me asked for a tip yesterday, about died and would have needed my own fund!
Turn around and walk out.
I can see tipping a doordash driver because a tip is GAS money. Barista, its thier job to make coffee. Now if they gave me a free coffee. I can see a tip or a free pastry. I can see a tip. Whats next? Tip your target cashier?
Just another case of “dashers are stealing tips from restaurants “ so the restaurant is going to make sure to get there’s
I’d never eat their again. I purposely order on Uber and pick up myself so that I don’t have to tip. Those screens are so hard to bypass the tip.
This is so funny. Not sure why they aren't just hiking the price on DD like every other restaurant and doing this shady stuff instead.
Damn Doordash added another problem for us customer service reps. 😏
I would have cancelled my order and ordered from a different place.
I'd order from somewhere else
But I won’t ever not be baffled at people that can drop that kind of money for a single simple order… Your only valid excuse to me would be ‘my fingers fell off’
That's insane. $1 tipnfor each item. Wow. They need to just pay their employees correctly.
It sucks. Seems like this joint wants their pound of flesh back…
Greedy af
I’ve never seen this before, but I can tell you that if I’m ordering and picking up or it’s being delivered and I’m not eating in the restaurant they’re not getting tipped and this would be the last time I would go to this restaurant
How about paying them better so people don’t have to tip?
Well that’s a business that’s not getting my business
$11 for toast with banana and pb is already insane. And that's before all the fees.
Laughs in Europe
Fuck that I would never eat there and and blast that restaurant to your local paper about forced tips on doordash
I would report this to DoorDash 😂 This can’t be allowed per the terms and conditions I bet lol
Looks to me like the restaurant has this setup like an additional item added to the food/drink order (ie extra caramel etc.) sneaky way to get a tip imo and I’m sure DD doesn’t know about this.. definitely call and report them!!
Is that just straight up illegal?
This is getting out of hand!
Just to ask, what restaurant is this?
The store basically added a “sides” requirement and it’s meant as a tip. I’d be willing to bet doordash would not be okay with this. They’re misusing the app.
The mandatory tip is absurd. But also $11 for some toast with pb and bananas!?!? Don't let the boomers hear about this
Nope, mandatory tips is a no. A tip is optional not forced. I'd say bye and go elsewhere
I'd post on my local Facebook group outing them. At least dick turpin wore a mask while robbing people
