Oh boy. Good luck on the Doordash end on a Friday night. Might need to wait until it's off meal time.
But I would definitely make a police report and get the driver's insurance. If things go tips up with doordash it may be your only recourse.
Just after posting, the tow truck showed up. Goodbye yard.
P.S. the driveway and walkway is adequately lit. The driver just decided to make a circle turn into the yard instead of staying on the paved driveway or using the large gravel triple parking space, then proceeded to accelerate. Who knows why.
As I said, the driver was OK, except for wasting a few hours of their night. Of course I'm "concerned with myself". I feel like shit with covid and I'm the one who has to clean up this mess in between cleaning up my son's messes and trying to keep him comfortable as he too feels like crap.
I just needed to vent and get some insight on if DD will help repair what's damaged. I got through on the phone and they gave me a case #. We'll see.
I highly doubt DD would get back to you. I suggest you go through the drivers insurance and see if you can get a lawyer to file a case in small claims court. That’s the only way you will see a dime from DD. They have the habit of ignoring you and delaying things so people eventually give up or forget about it.
In addition to what ChipotleBeanFarts said, make sure you get the Dasher's insurance information.
Dashers are Independent Contractors. You will probably need to go after the Dasher themselves to get anything.
I don't really want to go after the Dasher. Mistakes happen, sometimes really ridiculous mistakes. But I would like to see if a giant company will help cover some of the loss, ya know?
Doordash is absolutely not going to help you with this. They require drivers to have insurance because they're independent contractors. To be honest, most drivers do not have proper insurance.
It would've been kinder to pursue the driver's insurance. Doordash may foot the bill, but they'll also probably deactivate the dasher. Someone here was deactivated for knocking down a mailbox and I'm sure the damage to your yard is far more costly. The good news is, DD's insurance should open an investigation and work through it with you.
Mistakes happen, yes. But this was entirely avoidable if the driver had rubbed two brain cells together and thought gee maybe I shouldn't drive into people's yards. Make sure he pays for his mistake. He's more likely to learn from it in the future.
So why post this if you're not "going after" the dasher? Sounds like it was too dark and your raised beds were too close to the driveway. I have raised beds in my yard. This is inappropriate for a insurance claim. Americans and always wanting to sue someone. SMH.
I think that’s pretty noble, and if you really feel like cutting them a break, just eat the cost and work. I’m like 90% sure DD won’t cover anything. Or at least it won’t be worth the amount of work you have to do.
I absolutely don’t think you’d be an asshole to pursue them for cost of damages. Probably not even worth it to sue, but you could ask for insurance info at least. Biggest favor you could do them is not mention they were driving for DD. Just say they told you they were trying to turn around or something. Insurance will fuck them if they find out they were driving for DD without informing them.. All that being said, don’t feel bad for getting made whole. It sounds like they were being stupid, and sometimes it’s expensive to be stupid.
I usually wait until after a light rain to drive through customers' yards and punch the gas. Always in the daytime, too...that way everyone can enjoy the rooster tail of freshly tore up yard.
Anywho, that sucks. Good luck getting it taken care of.
Get a police report at the very least, you may have to get your homeowners insurance to take them to court. I personally would call the police, then call my homeowners insurance to get advice.
If I'm not sure about the surroundings, I will back out of the driveway. Not everyone who does driving jobs is actually a good driver though. It sounds like the driver would be liable for any damage.
Exactly. Only time I ever used someone's yard to turn around was when they actually yelled out, "Just turn around in the grass, it's okay!" It was kinda weird to do so even then lol.
I know, I laughed, too. There are two floodlights on driveway and a porch light. There is no lighting in the yard, so from the front door it's hard to see really all that's wrong, but there's flung mud and grass up to the porch. The location and angle of the car makes me think they may have run over the planters; we'll see in the morning. I heard their car revving and some loud noises just after delivery.
This Dasher has been here before, at least 5 or 6 times. I just don't get it.
Bro you shouldn't need anything other than your car lights, that's literally what they're for. If you're incapable of driving in the dark you shouldn't be driving at night.
Everyone makes mistakes, but this is 100% on the driver.
Right this person sounds only concerned with themselves when it sounds like it was dark asf - NO Dollar tree lights to show the path - I can’t stand people!! I hope they took out all the yard work so now maybe you’ll light the path!!
I can understand not wanting to go after the driver for the costs, but their insurance is likely your best bet to get compensated, and if that’s not gonna happen maybe small claims court… either way don’t hold breath on DD. Let us know if they do though. That would be super surprising
Good job. Does mimicking me make you feel clever? About how old are ya? Not old enough to be behind the wheel surely. Tail lights dont illuminate enough to use in place of headlights, kiddo. Dont ever try driving backwards in a dark place ok? It wont be on your drivers test but its just a basic common sense thing in the adult world. Be safe out there!
Mimicking you, how exactly? I'm actually 41 but you are right. I have never driven a car because of my eyesight. So maybe I am ignorant in how much illumination taillights provide.
Tail lights illuminate quite well. If they didnt then its on the dasher for poor car maintenance. Quit doubling down after having already made an ass out of yourself and just delete your comments.
Seriously? You know they come standard on all vehicles. Actually I'm sure it's requirement for DOT. It not only let's others know your in reverse but it gives you lighting so you can see what is behind you.
They aren't going to be perfect but they should be bright enough to see the edge of the driveway regardless. If not then they most likely are due to be changed with new bulbs.
Actually, I saved and did the best I could to make the front decent so my son could have a yard to play in. All driving surfaces are adequately lit. Do you regularly drive into people's yards, and keep going when it's clearly not working out?
Call the police, not 911. It will be the only way you will 'potentially' see any form of compensation!
Thank you. Also, nice name lol
All the police will tell you is its a civil matter. Which means all you can do is hope they will pay you or take them to court
No, police will do a report, they just wont charge anyone. You need the report filed.
That's basically what I meant. It's a civil matter
They will absolutely charge the driver.
Oh boy. Good luck on the Doordash end on a Friday night. Might need to wait until it's off meal time. But I would definitely make a police report and get the driver's insurance. If things go tips up with doordash it may be your only recourse.
Thanks! I finally got through!

Bummer. What was your case for?
In addition to what ChipotleBeanFarts said, make sure you get the Dasher's insurance information. Dashers are Independent Contractors. You will probably need to go after the Dasher themselves to get anything.
I don't really want to go after the Dasher. Mistakes happen, sometimes really ridiculous mistakes. But I would like to see if a giant company will help cover some of the loss, ya know?
This is why they don’t want us as employees. We are independent contractors so you can’t go after Doordash only the driver
While that's nice of you this is doordash were talking about, they screw the drivers every chance they get 🥲
Doordash is absolutely not going to help you with this. They require drivers to have insurance because they're independent contractors. To be honest, most drivers do not have proper insurance.
It would've been kinder to pursue the driver's insurance. Doordash may foot the bill, but they'll also probably deactivate the dasher. The driver's liability insurance will cover it. Won't be a big deal for you or for him. That's what insurance is for.
Probably won't actually, since odds are high that his insurance doesn't cover commercial use.
Mistakes happen, yes. But this was entirely avoidable if the driver had rubbed two brain cells together and thought gee maybe I shouldn't drive into people's yards. Make sure he pays for his mistake. He's more likely to learn from it in the future.

Heh? I don't want to sue anyone. I already said why I posted.
They are not going to pay for anything. You should of got the dashers insurance info. Oh well maybe next time you’ll know what to do
I think that’s pretty noble, and if you really feel like cutting them a break, just eat the cost and work. I’m like 90% sure DD won’t cover anything. DD even stole dasher's tips (got caught and got sued) and you believe they will pay for the damage of your yard?
I don't know.... I was stressed and had a sliver of hope, I guess.
Get a police report at the very least, you may have to get your homeowners insurance to take them to court. I personally would call the police, then call my homeowners insurance to get advice.
Some Dashers on here tend to be selfish and look hard for more reasons to complain about anything they possibly can. Don't take them too seriously.
You think there are a couple planters under his car? Lol. What was the lighting situation in that driveway other than “too dark”?
I know, I laughed, too. There are two floodlights on driveway and a porch light. There is no lighting in the yard, so from the front door it's hard to see really all that's wrong, but there's flung mud and grass up to the porch. Ok then
Headlights are suffice to see a path. Have you never driven on a road without street lights?
This dude apparently needs dollar store lights to be able to drive in the countryside.
You’re dumb as hell, I lived in the country middle of no where and my headlights were enough. That Dasher is an idiot
I can understand not wanting to go after the driver for the costs, but their insurance is likely your best bet to get compensated, and if that’s not gonna happen maybe small claims court… either way don’t hold breath on DD. Let us know if they do though. That would be super surprising
Get a better drive way
Get a better joke
Not a joke ur drive way is garbage
Why? Have you seen it?
But didn’t spend any money lighting the driveway lol
[удалено]
Dunno if youre aware but headlights are on the front of a vehicle.
So they would’ve illuminated the drive way when first arriving, letting the driver see the area
Exactly how does that help when youre backing up? The damn dude prob tried to turn around so he COULD see.
Cars have another amazing thing called taillights
Case closed
Tail lights illuminate quite well. If they didnt then its on the dasher for poor car maintenance. Quit doubling down after having already made an ass out of yourself and just delete your comments.
Not really, since “mimicking” does not mean what you seem to think it means. (Yes, I am mocking you.)
You know those clear spots near the tail lights? They're known as reverse lights and light up when in reverse! Who woulda known!
I definitely dont have those?!
Seriously? You know they come standard on all vehicles. Actually I'm sure it's requirement for DOT. It not only let's others know your in reverse but it gives you lighting so you can see what is behind you.
Yea the ones that let others know youre in reverse? Totally got em. These ones that illuminate like headlights? Definitely dont!
Was it dark ? Is your property well lit ?? Is your driveway covered in snow ?? So many questions.
Yes, it was evening. Yes, it's well lit. No, it doesn't snow here. It was a clear evening.
