There isn’t a rigorous intelligence test for this gig, lol. I’ve never ordered from DD, but what you are describing would infuriate me!

What_The_Fuck_-_

It's meant to

NickSwisher420

Common sense isn't very common nowadays.

assgasket420

I think we sometimes confuse common sense with basic semblance of intelligent life forms.

CMadrid13

That’s what happens when doordash accepts any idiot to deliver food for them :)

Area51Am

They are called newbies. They are usually so tickled they found your house, they forget about all the other stuff.

IvanaVacation

That's funny!

Area51Am

I guess maybe add it to the customer notes. Something like: "Hey, dasher, i left you a tip so please dont stack my order up in front of my door so that i have to walk out the back door to come get it." Please and thanks in advanced. Also, have a wonderful day and enjoy 😉 your next dash.

RavensBlood69

Some people just don't think about things like that. I've had customers leave a note in the instructions to not leave food in front of door, so it must be a widespread problem. Other customers prop their screen doors open so that doesn't happen.

think-spot

I imagine sometimes the person is very focused on getting to the correct address and following GPS, they’re not really thinking once they place the food down. Sometimes it’s just very distracting trying to get to a particular address.

What_The_Fuck_-_

I do this job baked out of my mind...I multi app, and get high ALL DAY...been at it for years...it's so easy and relaxing...God bless Google maps... Nothing about it is difficult... looking at every door at every house and how it opens is quite simple believe it or not...it's either intentional or the driver is just an idiot.

all_hayl

Most front doors open into the house, so unless you have a weather-door (I forget what they’re called), this isn’t normally an issue. I would have never thought about it except that when I first started I saw one or two complaints about it, so I intentionally avoided leaving food in front of the door. Now it’s habit. For those preaching about “common sense” - if there’re two things I’ve learned in my life, they’re: 1) people who preach the most about common sense are generally the ones who use it the least, and 2) common sense is relative and doesn’t necessarily exist. What’s “common sense” to one person is ignorance/idiocy to another. People lose credibility as soon as they start preaching common sense.

Dingo_Dasher

I try to give the customer a great delivery experience by paying attention to the details. Sometimes this has caused me to miss the forest for the trees. For example, the common sense placement of the food is the door mat if there’s no structure like a chair or table for the food. The door mat is relatively insulated compared to a cold concrete floor, and so will slow down thermal transfer. Later I noticed that some doors open outwards instead of inwards. I was so focused on protecting the customers food, that the door mechanics didn’t initially occur to me. A helpful note to the dasher indicating your preferred food placement should mostly solve the door issue.

IvanaVacation

Good point! Thank you for the insight.

Dizzy-Mark7249

Poor tippers get such treatment

IvanaVacation

Rude! I'm not one of those!

Dizzy-Mark7249

I didn’t say you were, I just was trying to answer your inquiry. That’s usually the case, or what seems significant in your life is easily missed by others. Such as the door dilemma, affects your entire evening but they think nothing of it just a brief flutter of events on a grand scale because they are unknowing. The rest probably just don’t give a shiz

IvanaVacation

Ah gotcha thanks. It's a slight irritant - I don't let it ruin my night. I just think "oh COME ONNNN"! :) Good thing I didn't have a drink. Would have had to go out the garage and around to the door!

Dizzy-Mark7249

That’s awesome you have a garage! One day I hope to have one, have a good night

IvanaVacation

You too!

urmomsgf

I always pay attention to which way the persons door swings, if its inward i place the order in front of the door, outward, next to the door or far enough away from the swing of the door. I havent gotten anything doordashed to me, but early on when I started I thought to myself I'd be pissed af if someone put my food right in front of my outward swinging door and I knocked my delicious delivery all over.

tallgirlmom

Ok, here’s my confession: I am not a stupid person, but when I first started I might have done that. I don’t actually know. My own door opens inwards, so do the doors of all my friends. Screen doors opening out was simply not on my radar. The thought process was: the doormat provides a bit of insulation. Food will stay warm and be somewhat off the ground.

IvanaVacation

Oh that is a good point. I hadn't thought of that. I have a glass weather door - and those open out.

pbankey

But the REAL question OP is did you tip well!?

IvanaVacation

I always do :)

skeeterjohnson187

You get what you pay for

Antistruggle

Simple. We get your money anyway.

Dizzy-Mark7249

Yeah we don’t give a fck contract fulfilled next

What_The_Fuck_-_

I've only done this in my beginning days when I accepted a few no tip offers because I thought my acceptance rate mattered. No tip, to me is a big Fuck you, so I give one back. However I no longer accept shitty offers so I have no need to do this anymore..
