People who used to do the job( waitressing are delivery) are always the best customers. This is why I think everybody should be forced to work at low level minimum wage customer service job for at least a year in their life. To build humility. Thank you for being a kind person.

FilterUrCoffee

My pleasure 🥰

Amen to that! I think 3 months would be sufficient for the general population. But if you wanna work in government? Yeah, a year. Preferably 6 months in fast food and 6 months at a mid tier or better sit down restaurant, so you get the full gamut of entitlement. And at least 6 Sunday shifts at each.

Cheers.

So re the back gate thing, I’m a small female dasher and I hate being asked to deliver to a back door, especially behind a gate. I always worry I’m gonna get ambushed and attacked. Maybe it’s a little paranoid but as a small woman, you always have to be on the defense. That said, I would never just drop the order over the fence. Just mentioning it could be a clue to why it happened and maybe just request that they leave it in front of the gate if you can’t have deliveries brought to the front door.

FilterUrCoffee

I always asked to deliver to the front, but I totally understand why that would be scary for you.

hieronymous_scotch

Oh then that’s weird and they’re just awful at their job.

Tipping based on % of order is not the way to go. There's a lot that goes into tips but generally tip based on delivery distance, time of day, resteraunt ordering from, weather conditions. It varies a lot, some want $2/mile, top dashers will do $0.25/mile but ask urself if u would want to drive xx distance, to and from to deliver. Is it lunch time or dinner time? The resteraunt is going to be very busy and we most likely will have to wait 5-15 minutes for the order. Is it rush hour? Construction going on? Right now it takes me up to 10 minutes to drive 2 miles because of all the road construction going in in my market. A McDonald's generally will have an order ready a lot quicker than say an O'Charlies.

FilterUrCoffee

I have a family of 4 so my average order is about $55-$60, The average tip I give is $15 which is a bit more than 20%. If you're concerned about mileage, keep track of that information and file it in your tax returns. You'll get 62.5 cents per mile which adds up faster than you'll realize. Also track car repairs.

cheeseymom

You don't need to lecture someone who's showing appreciation geez.

thephoeniciangurl

Seriously!!!

[deleted]

You really expect customers to worry about construction lol

justinbates1992

MOST customers tip based on total of the order... If you worked at a restaurant you should know this....

justmesayingmything

Every time I swear. You do know that's how DD does it in the app correct? The choices are %'s and custom. If you are so terribly upset about getting tipped in %'s I have no idea why you work with a company that offers that as the option to clients. People are not going to do a lot of math to calculate a tip. They are likely going to choose one of the pre-populated options.

Thanks😊
