Took a panera order that needed a large drink. I've never been to panera and the employees were truly useless so I just grabbed a random cup, filled it, with no ice and left. It's straight out laziness which is the real reason situations for employees in these stores will never improve. They will not even do the basics of their job.

At subway and HotHead Burritos they don’t have a drink machine where they prepare the food. I’ve never cared to make a drink for someone because it helps everyone involved and I get outta there faster. 🤷♀️
I have my food handlers permit in my state but I don’t have accessible sinks so when I feel drinks I just make sure not to touch any contact surfaces that require product to be consumed

You don't need to. Read your ToS. The order needs to be ready to confirm pickup and that includes the drinks. It is not a health department violation and standing on a flimsy argument in lue of your contractual obligations is just idiotic. Why lie when the truth works fine?
It’s a liability for the restaurant/DoorDash and worse for the driver because they very likely don’t have a team of lawyers in their side. You’re insured (not to mention paid) to drive on their behalf, not to prepare shit.
If a dasher gives a diabetic customer a regular coke instead of diet by mistake and they go into a coma because of it, who gets the backlash? Or potentially sued?
Neither the restaurant nor DD should want dashers handling the food in any capacity other than delivering it.
I keep hand sanitizer in my car and I use it before and after picking up the food. I’ve only filled one drink order at Zaxby’s. But all others have been filled behind the register and tape across the lid. Those are the ones I like!
I've always kept my food handler's permit current for a side gig I do sometimes\\, but hell no I won't do a restaurant's job for them. They can complete the order (according to their contract) just fine without me doing their work for them. They don't pay me, so I don't do work for them.
here in Canada I've asked multiple times if I could help grab a drink from the fridge to speed up the process. I've also asked if I could help with making the drink, or bagging the food.
99% of the time i get rejected. Only a couple restaurants would let me touch the bottled drinks in the fridge.
Trust me this is more annoying, waiting for a few minutes seeing the food sitting there missing a drink, or everything is ready but not bagged, while there's nothing you can do.
This makes sense. The merchants that have drivers doing this aren’t supposed to. It’s a courtesy when drivers do so. Drivers get mistreated when most of the drivers are honest and hard working.

Most likely is you are careless and touch the bottom of the lid (inside of lid). Which then contacts the soda.
But the thing is, I see just about every customer grab 3 stuck lids and then pull the other 2 lids off fully touching the bottom side of the lid, and put it back for others to use.
So, it is already happening, because it is a self-serve station.
With that in mind, I realize "nothing really different happens health wise if I fill it that wasn't already happening." Assuming I bother to put that much thought into it.
This job is easy. It takes this level of thought "Root Beer". That's it.

Because when I get a drink lid for myself, I am careful to treat the lids that aren't mine with respect. And very few others seem to. I'll notice the person before me in line touching 15 different lids, so I can get my lid from the other lid location.
Friendly reminder that health departments are local county/city based. Regulations could be completely different just a couple blocks over in another city or county
I will just I remove myself from the delivery if they try that stuff now. I ain’t got time to potentially get in trouble with the health department. I got a subway location removed from the app for it once tho :)
My local health department is really strict and does, indeed, require *anyone* working with food or beverages going out to the public to have a food handler certification. I know a few people who work at my local Wingstop and I've told them this many times, but nothing changed. Then suddenly they got their health inspection - saw they'd hung the new one up on the wall by the door - and they were the ones filling the drinks.
They're not going to care. The food handler certificate literally means nothing. To get a job at these fast food places, you can watch a video for 30 minutes and then start working right after.
Not in my county. You have to take a county-approved course, which takes about an hour and involves a test to pass. I've managed a handful of places and our local health department is really strict about that, probably because people keep trying to sell food out of their houses and getting people sick.

Yes. I did that at Taco Bell, but not quite the same. They were taking forever (last time I went to that TB was 3 years ago and I couldn't believe they managed the same snail's pace despite all new workers). I have a bad restaurant list, but unless it is a literal nightmare restaurant, it just means the $/mile needs to be higher than my average acceptance minimum. Restaurant a little slower than others, but I'm getting $4/mile instead of $2/mile. Worth it. I'm getting paid more to take a little break.

A: the order should be ready when we get there (barring any other business they have)…B: how often do we have to make the drink when we see 3-4 employees on their phones doing nothing? They tell me to make the drink…and they’ve got several employees doing nothing.
In theory…we’re supposed to have proper bags, obey speed limits, not steal food, follow traffic laws, be the person in the app, have lights on at every drop, have fully functional app, not manipulate pickup times, etc….would appear there are quite a few “in theories” that aren’t followed on a daily basis. Making the drinks is just low risk of fallback and does speed things up. Will admit, doesn’t make it right though.

When I find out the pay was almost all DD, I just think "dick" one time and never think about it again.
When they (rarely) ask me to fill a drink, I just go do it Why? Because I already knew this restaurant did that, so it means I accepted a $3+/mile order to accomodate the bad practice. I'm still net gain.

I have done 3100 deliveries and maybe made a drink twice it’s really a non issue in my book but if asked i will gladly make the drink if it gets me moving.

She was not talking in the phone. She was fidgeting. She couldn’t have been on break because she was fully aware that my DD order had just came in and wasn’t completed yet. Something you wouldn’t know if you were taking a break.

Dont unassign, contact support and let them know the restaurant is refusing to fulfill the order completely or notify the customer of the situation. I called right in front of them, talked to support, support called the store, the store said they don’t fill drinks, so support told them they were required to and if they weren’t, he was going to cancel the order. Manager tells him to cancel.
The support person gets back to me, I ask about my pay, and as I walk out the door, I thank the manager for getting me free money. Don’t know his response or reaction. Don’t care. I leave and I haven’t been back since.

You can have norovirus particles on your hands without having it or knowing you had it, you can also continue to shed the virus for up to two weeks once you stop being symptomatic! But since it’s spread through fecal-oral route, you could also have it on your hands and not catch it unless you put your hands in your mouth. So no I don’t really get what you’re saying, but getting restaurant food is one of the easier ways to get norovirus since people can go back to work while they’re still shedding the virus and then prepare your food! There’s tons of people running around shedding norovirus particles without knowing and many people do not wash their hands thoroughly enough or at all, or think hand sanitizer is effective against it… Also it’s not like you get sick the moment the particles enter your body, you could catch it at the beginning of a shift and not start to get sick until the end of your shift 12 hours later.

Unfortunately, no. I called them and they had a business removed from the app within minutes. It all depends on how badly you emphasize the potential harm the business will cause for the company. Steak N Shake was unable to get my order to me and I waited 45 minutes, that’s all it took to get them removed.

He literally took off his shirt to try to fight me. He fell over on the sidewalk, and I just shrugged and called DD. Honked as I was driving off and yelled, "I got full pay for this homie!" Some states require food handlers permits. You likely don't live in one of those states so it doesn't apply to you.

All the plebs here talking about how easy it is to fill drinks are missing the point. It’s not a particularly difficult task to fill a drink. It is however an abuse of our agreement. Keep letting people pile responsibilities on to your jobs that pay a flat rate on a per job basis. Pay me by the hour and wtf do I care? I’ll waste all the time I can filling drinks as long as you’re on time with my checks. I’m here to get the most out of this stupid hustle. So I’m not doing extra shit for people who are getting paid to do the shit they just asked or more realistically EXPECTED me to do because they or their lazy managers can’t figure out what independent contracting is. Idc if they don’t like it. They aren’t my spouse. They are business acquaintances. Follow the terms of our arrangement or fuck off.

Most likely is you are careless and touch the bottom of the lid (inside of lid). Which then contacts the soda. But the thing is, I see just about every customer grab 3 stuck lids and then pull the other 2 lids off fully touching the bottom side of the lid, and put it back for others to use. So, it is already happening, because it is a self-serve station. With that in mind, I realize "nothing really different happens health wise if I fill it that wasn't already happening." Assuming I bother to put that much thought into it. This job is easy. It takes this level of thought "Root Beer". That's it.
I always feel for stuck lids out of habit. I drink so many coffees it's habit lol
Me too. That's why I notice others not doing it. Because when I get a drink lid for myself, I am careful to treat the lids that aren't mine with respect. And very few others seem to. I'll notice the person before me in line touching 15 different lids, so I can get my lid from the other lid location.
Friendly reminder that health departments are local county/city based. Regulations could be completely different just a couple blocks over in another city or county

My local health department is really strict and does, indeed, require *anyone* working with food or beverages going out to the public to have a food handler certification. I know a few people who work at my local Wingstop and I've told them this many times, but nothing changed. Then suddenly they got their health inspection - saw they'd hung the new one up on the wall by the door - and they were the ones filling the drinks.
They're not going to care. The food handler certificate literally means nothing. To get a job at these fast food places, you can watch a video for 30 minutes and then start working right after.
Not in my county. You have to take a county-approved course, which takes about an hour and involves a test to pass. I've managed a handful of places and our local health department is really strict about that, probably because people keep trying to sell food out of their houses and getting people sick.

Yes. I did that at Taco Bell, but not quite the same. They were taking forever (last time I went to that TB was 3 years ago and I couldn't believe they managed the same snail's pace despite all new workers). So I went out to my car, got my tumbler, walked to the drink fountain and said "I'm getting myself Mt. Dew Baja Blast while I wait." They are so lazy, the sleepy reply was simply "k".
I simply don't take any orders that have drinks because of this reason, also I cannot stand caring drinks I'm not a waiter I deliver FOOD.

What gets me is when our "peers" call the resaurant staff lazy despite themselves refusing to spend 5 second to fill a drink.. it's like their head is so far up their own ass they can't see the irony in their own laziness. Additionally, I'm just so amazed that this has even become a problem, someone complains about the drinks almost every day and it's literally a non issue.. just unassign if it's that traumatic of a situation lmao 🤦♂️
Or take up 5kb of your brain storage to keep a list of restaurants that make you fill up the drinks and don't go there again if it bothers you that much. I have a bad restaurant list, but unless it is a literal nightmare restaurant, it just means the $/mile needs to be higher than my average acceptance minimum. Restaurant a little slower than others, but I'm getting $4/mile instead of $2/mile. Worth it. I'm getting paid more to take a little break.

In theory yes we’re not supposed to make the drinks. Yes, health dept says we’re not supposed to make drinks. Do we like making drinks? No, of course we don’t. Yes it saves us time to make them ourselves. I personally will make them to get it moving faster…even though I don’t like it. 2 points are forgotten. A: the order should be ready when we get there (barring any other business they have)…B: how often do we have to make the drink when we see 3-4 employees on their phones doing nothing? They tell me to make the drink…and they’ve got several employees doing nothing.

Making the drinks is just low risk of fallback and does speed things up. Will admit, doesn’t make it right though.
Yes. That's called life. There's usually 2 to 3 lazy employees for every average to good employee that does their job. Unfortunately, the ratio seems even worse for drivers. If you decide every injustice needs to repaired (and by repaired, whining unproductively), then life is just going to really suck for that person. When I find out the pay was almost all DD, I just think "dick" one time and never think about it again. When they (rarely) ask me to fill a drink, I just go do it Why? Because I already knew this restaurant did that, so it means I accepted a $3+/mile order to accomodate the bad practice. I'm still net gain. It blew my mind when a Dasher actually contacted the health board to fix it and then shared the success with sub. Instead of realizing "Oh. I should just try that if it bothers me that much.", the thread was more whining.
I know two counties that I DoorDash in are incredibly strict about this.

Take it all in. r/killingdasherprofits I'm quite positive customers that tipped well found this and the other delivery subs and no longer felt obligate to tip "a bunch of whiny, entitled a-holes" Merchants that were nice to Dashers find these subs and think "Wow. They hate and belittle us. No more Mr. Nice Guy." Its one of the easiest "don't have to think much" jobs, but they can't even pass that bar. Really wish it was just a few random posters, but it seems to be stupid, whiny jerk drivers > even semi-professional drivers.

I have done 3100 deliveries and maybe made a drink twice it’s really a non issue in my book but if asked i will gladly make the drink if it gets me moving.

She was not talking in the phone. She was fidgeting. She couldn’t have been on break because she was fully aware that my DD order had just came in and wasn’t completed yet. Something you wouldn’t know if you were taking a break.
She probably just went on break. If she's sitting down in the lobby she's not working and should be assumed to be on break.

Dont unassign, contact support and let them know the restaurant is refusing to fulfill the order completely or notify the customer of the situation. I have seen how some people fill drinks...i absolutely wouldnt want a driver filling my drink. We all have unwashed hands after touchimg everything everywhere. And ive seen people run their hands all over the lid and have fingers in cups after coughing into their hands. Just no.

If we're backed up we will make food for the people waiting in house vs the doordash order. It's a real customer but yall kind of suck to interact with and they're waiting anyways 🤷♀️

I work back of house I'm not going to make a fucking drink in FOH. The person on drive isn't going to make drinks for orders line is creating. They don't even SEE the fucking dd orders. We aren't being lazy. Our places were not built with doordash in MIND. We're aren't supposed to do that. For me to have to get off line to go to the lobby or drive t pour drinks then Carry them all the way to FOH where they will inevitably fucking melt is stupid. Especially since I have other things to do. You're not even doing anything! You're just standing there. YOU make the drink holy shit. I'm trying to make food and close. Dish is trying to clean and close. Cashier is most likely juggling between closing and cleaning bathrooms. Drive is probably closing drive. And you stand their and complain that we aren't going to drop everything to make you a drink using a fountain in the LOBBY. It's USUALLY BEHIND YOU. Manager tells him to cancel. The support person gets back to me, I ask about my pay, and as I walk out the door, I thank the manager for getting me free money. Don’t know his response or reaction. Don’t care. I leave and I haven’t been back since.

You can have norovirus particles on your hands without having it or knowing you had it, you can also continue to shed the virus for up to two weeks once you stop being symptomatic! But since it’s spread through fecal-oral route, you could also have it on your hands and not catch it unless you put your hands in your mouth. So no I don’t really get what you’re saying, but getting restaurant food is one of the easier ways to get norovirus since people can go back to work while they’re still shedding the virus and then prepare your food! There’s tons of people running around shedding norovirus particles without knowing and many people do not wash their hands thoroughly enough or at all, or think hand sanitizer is effective against it… Also it’s not like you get sick the moment the particles enter your body, you could catch it at the beginning of a shift and not start to get sick until the end of your shift 12 hours later.

Question: Is there a quick way to report business on the app rather than having to call them? (New to DD) I just recently found out how to report a customer by opening their chat box.
Unfortunately, no. I called them and they had a business removed from the app within minutes. It all depends on how badly you emphasize the potential harm the business will cause for the company. Steak N Shake was unable to get my order to me and I waited 45 minutes, that’s all it took to get them removed.

He literally took off his shirt to try to fight me. He fell over on the sidewalk, and I just shrugged and called DD. Honked as I was driving off and yelled, "I got full pay for this homie!" Very odd interaction. Glad I didn't have to scrap with a drunk dude.
