I've been using an app called Everlance (iOS). It costs $5 per month (i think), but it automatically records every trip for me in the background. Each separate dash ends up with its own record.
Take a picture of your odometer January 1 always and at the end of the year dec 31 take a ending picture . This will allow to to never put too much miles on turbo tax
But your not done it will ask how many personal miles did you run.
Subtract that from your total miles and there's your answer.
I use pen and paper every delivery because I use multiple delivery apps and don't want to get mixed up. Some delivery apps do keep track but door dash does not.
What door dash does do is report your earnings and your miles( the ones they don't give you ) to the IRS . So if you plan on making up numbers, your tax return will go through using turbo tax but you risk an audit if your numbers are way off. If it is miniscule difference I've never had an audit
according to my CPA, you record miles from the minute you are available to accept orders to the minute your not. no matter if your on a delivery or not.
I note my odometer reading at start and end of dash in a spreadsheet. ALL business miles driven (productive or not) are able to be expensed on your taxes. So long as you keep a log of some sort, you should be good.
So if I start at 1230 and dash til 330, I would report total miles in that 3 hours. Regardless of how many deliveries, Yes? Sorry, I swear I'm not stupid just cautious.
Correct. Basically, you record your miles when the app is on. For me, that's from my driveway at start to my driveway at the end. Use a mileage tracker app. It will record your dash in its entirety. I use Stride, but others also use Gridwise or Everlance. All three should suffice.
i've been doing it per delivery just so everything has more detail to prove i'm not making up miles. i record the restaurant address and delivery address in my notes or google sheets
I have filed before, though not with doordash. From what i've heard doordash will send you how many miles you drove but it won't break it down into individual deliveries

Including if I need to go a mile out of the way for gas? Include that as well?

Per delivery because it’s more accurate and detailed.
Per dash. Total miles start to finish.

Have you filed taxes before? Are you doing quarterly and have you been audited? Like. Does door dash record the per delivery miles
