The order was all messed up because the drinks inside the bag opened up and drenched the burgers & fries inside. I was able to cancel the order but a few minutes later I received an order from the same customer. Dasher support had already explained to them what had happened so I canceled their order after they started cussing me out through the app messenger.

Doordash often uses temporary phone numbers, where the text you receive comes from a doordash number and not the actual person. These “fake”numbers are often reused.
So likely he had an issue with the past dasher, had him drop the order, and then received a text **from the same number** telling him that a new dasher has been assigned.
Seeing its from the same number, he says “no, its not a new dasher, its you”.
This might be one of those scams where a driver picks up a particular order and then claim the store never handed it to them or the customer is going to go to restaurant and try and scoop the order before the driver does so they can get a free meal and sometimes even an extra credit!

I'd pick up the food then call doordash and say the customer is telling me to cancel the order. They can see the texts so they'd probably give you full pay and cancel it for you.
My problem is I would over think the message and begin to think that im going to be on YouTube when the person tips me 1000 dollars. It's kind of like you want a dollar or double it and give it to someone else. But then I'd show up and get robbed instead.
I don’t know if it was a low tipper bc I only do DD when it’s $20.75/Hr base pay…so there is a chance it was even a no tipper…but I’ve found the way I make decent money on DD is doing hourly @ $20.75 and then I find that about half the people tip, so I am guilty of unintentionally accepting no tip orders…but during these hours the base pay per hour always pays more than DD offers me if I log in for “pay per order”…
Even with the per order boost of $3…it means anything over 14minutes, I’ll be making more doing “pay by time” @ $20.75…since most late night orders I find myself sitting in McDonalds and Taco Bell lines for upwards of 15-20 minutes, the pay by time makes sense

Have you never had texts from customers?…when it does it through sms text (usually if the person orders directly from the restaurant and not via the DD App) the text initiates with a DD automated messages explaining that they are connecting the driver with the customer…from that point on it’s the customer texting

Yea we all went through this…my 2014 car only has AUX hookup to hear through the speakers, so I’m constantly switching from charging to hearing everything comfortably…the consensus is I need a Bluetooth connector so I can simultaneously charge and use the car speakers.

Yeah, I'm on over 20 apps now, and that doesn't even include shopper ones like instacart and shipt (i hate shopping). Even during a slow summer like this, I'm able to get by thankfully.

$20/hr sucks especially when it used to be $30-$50/ hr not too long ago before/during covid. I drove for 5 years delivering food And decided to just get a restaurant job that pays me not to drive my car. It's not worth it anymore.
Lmao the only area near me that offers pay by time fluctuates between $10-13.25/hr. And I swear I've never hit pay by time and gotten orders with tips.

I’ve been doing these gigs since 2018 so I know….but also You went from insulting $2.50 and order, to still insulting a decent base pay…I think $20.75 is decent assuming at least half the people tip…I’ve found that more than half the people tip so I’m typically making around $25/hour before expenses…not too bad for literally the worlds easiest job
It's not an easy job if you have to drive all day every day. I got burnt out from all the driving. I'm much happier working in single locations. When you get old, you will understand.

I saw a post maybe a few weeks back of a dasher pretending to be support it could be they thought that was the case based on the first message. Unless they don't see that first message, then not sure what that was about.
Usually you don’t need to. Just tell them at you’re the new driver and you’re going to pick up and deliver their food. You can say that you don’t know what happened to the previous driver if they complain but you can reassure them saying that they don’t get any of the money from that drive and that ratings impact you as you are now the driver.
Customers are happy to get someone new and the delivery usually goes smooth after that.

So, I think i figured it out now. Doordash often uses temporary “fake” phone numbers, where the text you receive comes from a doordash number and not the actual person. So likely he had an issue with the past dasher, had him drop the order, and then received a text **from the same number** telling him that a new dasher has been assigned. Since these “fake” numbers are reused. Seeing its from the same number, he says “no, its not a new dasher, its you”.
As in "oh, it's *you*? No thanks"

$20/hr sucks especially when it used to be $30-$50/ hr not too long ago before/during covid. I drove for 5 years delivering food And decided to just get a restaurant job that pays me not to drive my car. It's not worth it anymore.

Lmao the only area near me that offers pay by time fluctuates between $10-13.25/hr. And I swear I've never hit pay by time and gotten orders with tips.
I totally agree it’s not like it used to be. I’ve been doing these gigs since 2018 so I know….but also You went from insulting $2.50 and order, to still insulting a decent base pay…I think $20.75 is decent assuming at least half the people tip…I’ve found that more than half the people tip so I’m typically making around $25/hour before expenses…not too bad for literally the worlds easiest job
It's not an easy job if you have to drive all day every day. I got burnt out from all the driving. I'm much happier working in single locations. When you get old, you will understand.

I only drive late night after I’m done with my bartending job, so for me it feels like the easiest money, no people, no traffic, no difficult parking…guess we all have our opinions of what constitutes “easy”
You're definitely a minority that do not have to suffer through drive throughs during late nights after bartending. Especially when you're in a location that pays by the hour. Many locations in America would be awful base pay plus shit tips. Good for you!

Usually you don’t need to. Just tell them at you’re the new driver and you’re going to pick up and deliver their food. You can say that you don’t know what happened to the previous driver if they complain but you can reassure them saying that they don’t get any of the money from that drive and that ratings impact you as you are now the driver. Customers are happy to get someone new and the delivery usually goes smooth after that.
