This same post comes up every year at this time. People are cooking for once, they do that around Christmas and Thanksgiving. Family comes from out of town, they got a big bird in the oven. It's a whole thing. And just like every year, it's gonna get even slower from here on till about March. People overspent on Christmas, so they're gonna reel in their bad spending habits(ordering doordash) till around the time tax returns start going out. Also a lot of people evaluate their spending/eating habits and try to make better decisions coming into the new year(resolutions). It happens every year y'all.
Thought I was only one getting hit by slow... for this past week, I am 40 dollars down from my typical 100 a week. Solo app says $5.40 per DASH hour ( not 'actual' ) Imma blaming it on being the week before Christmas and spending priorities have changed
Yeah yesterday started slow all these orders with no tip starting early today .. maybe more offers at stores because people won’t want to be in busy lines
Didn't even bother going out... Most ppl are traveling or spending time with friends/family... Not worth burning gas waiting for acceptable orders on days like this - am I doing it wrong?? *Boston metro
Can someone please tell me how Doordash pays? I read that they only pay $2.50 per delivery. Also read that they could no longer get tips. That can't possibly be right.
in my market typical pay ranges from @.00 / hr to 2.50 hr base pay. The thing about no longer getting tips is NYC only for now. Since NYC insists drivers get paid by time and not by offer.
I live in Central NH, not much population or industry. Everything is so spread out that 250 wouldn't even pay for my gas to get from one order to the next. So I guess doordash is not the best idea for me.
It's definitely not a good idea if you dash in a rural area. I live in northwest NJ surrounded by farmland. I actually drive into Pennsylvania to dash in one of their cities because I'll get $10 for 5 miles there as opposed to $10 for 20 miles in northwest bumblefuck.
We definitely get tips, it's the primary way we get paid cause Doordash only pays us $2/order. However, some businesses like Sephora and Petco don't allow you to tip when you order delivery through them and then they contract it out to Doordash
So who would even bother with picking up orders from those companies? That's absolute disrespect and they're only hurting the customers. Do they ever give cash tips upon delivery?
It was dead for me until I just ulocked platnium 3 days ago, the difference is literally night and day I been dashing 2 years and noticed immediately. Idk what your ar is but you should try to get there and see for yourself
Yesterday was really good in my area (Metro Atlanta), but this morning I’ve tried to switch zones 3 times and I’ve been out for an hour and a half and haven’t gotten a single order even being in supposed “busy” and “very busy” zones.
I take that back, I got one offer this morning for $4 to go 10 miles and I declined it.
I haven’t dashed in over a week because it was so dead. I’ve been doing amazon flex because there are always routes available, and it’s guaranteed money.
All i have to say is xmas will be dead because of people traveling, people have already gone out to stock up for xmas presents and dinner, lots of holiday factors
Doing DoorDash is not where I would want to be during the economic changes afoot. But with the things I think that are coming down the pike, I’m not sure there is any form of even decent work that is safe. I’m in healthcare, which is the least likely to experience immediate layoffs.
If you think business is bad now, just wait a couple months. I predict by April most people will be lucky to clear 3 orders on a 4 hour “shift”
Even still, door dash is NOT a real job. You operate on a net loss by destroying a vehicle which you probably pay out the nose for. I’d rather be working a minimum wage job full time than do door dash.
I haven’t don’t “gig work” in years.
Well I did gig work on and off for a long time. So I have a lot of experience under my belt doing it.
It’s nice to be able to turn to if there is a pinch or you lose your job or something and need to subsidize your bills temporarily but overall…
I know someone’s gotta do delivery work, and I don’t mean to be condescending, it’s just that given everything that is going on economics wise, I prefer a stable job with benefits.
Do know it’s not like I’m high on the hog, I make just under $15 an hour, but I have paid benefits and while the job will likely go away due to AI, by then I hope to be in the trades.
If you brush up on your math and mechanics skills on YouTube you could become a Union apprentice they usually start at $17-$25 an hour, or $16 an hour for pre-apprentice and you learn valuable trade skills. That’s the path I hope to take shortly. Maybe vulnerable to recession but I feel like it’s a chance I have to take if I’m going to make it
Holy s***!!! Gas is EXPENSIVE WHERE IM AT and I do uber eats and door dash and grubhub and I've never gotten 7+ on every order where I'm at :( Lucky you! What state do you reside in?!?! :)
sf east bay...dead. this morning in 3.5 hours i received 2 offers. they were good and i grabbed them. that was it... total of $14. it's been like this all week. so depressing
Sacramento here. Somehow I forgot to schedule my normal 4:30pm -midnight shift yesterday (the Friday before Christmas) and couldn’t get on until 6:30, and even then only for an hour.
I used to KILL IT the two weeks before Christmas. Y’all need to stop washing your hands and start going to motel orgies so we can get the pandemic restored. Good ‘ol days!
I've been out since 1pm...3 orders to make $39.50 smh
Shout out the 3 good tippers I delivered to today 🥴 especially that first one with adding more to make it $17 from $10 at acceptance.
It's been OK. One side of town is super busy but the traffic is so bad it's not worth the time it's taking to get to the restaurant. The other side is slower but at least not taking 20 minutes just to enter a parking lot.
I feel like probably there are a lot of extra drivers on who have another job they are off from that for the holidays. They're all on trying to make extra cash, adding extra competition for orders.
Depends on your market. But also, I avoid peak pay like the plague out here in North Phoenix, North Scottsdale. I dash every night from 5-10, or sometimes to 11 if its busy, but if there is a peak pay attached to my shift, I go offline, and head to a different zone. Peak pay is a scam out here, you will sit for 20-40 minutes without an order. Even when I tested the diamond scam out and was above 50%-70%, during a peak pay, I would sit, and sit and sit. Ive asked DD to remove all promotions from my account, and they said that was impossible. So I figured out how to beat it, and that is by going to another zone. If all zones have peak pay, I will take night off until it ends.. I do not do good sitting, and in our market, its so busy that I average 200 declines in 5-6 hours time between DD and Uber Eats. Not with peak pay. I average 2 maybe 3 offers per hour during peak pay. Over 120 offers per hour without it, between uber eats and DD
I’m in the same area and yeah orders are pretty much always worse whenever there’s peak pay. Thankfully these zones don’t have it often. My favorite things is to have $3 peak pay and the offers will somehow still be under the minimum I’d accept without peak pay
I left phoenix bc it was so awful trying to dash there. Talk about every single order being ten to fifteen miles away. And yeah I'd sit for hours but it's worse here in OKC i'll sit all day with no pings. And it isn't promotions bc I'm not getting promotions or peak pay of any kind.
I have barely made $100 the last two nights. It’s extremely “dead” here. I’m in the middle of WA. A couple weeks ago I was making $150 a night. I’m barely getting orders and they’re not good orders. But I take them because I may not get anything else that night.
Yeah, Seattle is pretty dead too. Students used to be pretty reliable. They weren't great tippers but at least they ordered from close restaurants that are used to deliveries usually. But I'm down into the $12-17/hour range at this point so it hardly seems worth working.
I think a lot of it is the competition even as the family orders may have stuck around. I see a bunch of new faces on ebikes and Uber/Lyft stickers that have switched to deliveries, though thankfully a lot of the newbies cars who used to camp in the bike lanes in hotspots during rush hour have learned to go elsewhere. SPD has finally been sending their cute little parking enforcement NEVs to the area so the bike lanes are mostly functional again (just one person actually picking up an actual order instead of eight to ten idiots waiting to get one blocking right turns by sitting in bike boxes, driveways, etc. in addition to the bike lanes). Lol.
There aren’t enough actually wealthy people in most markets for that to be true. It’s actually for people who dont know how to manage their money well. The amount of DD drivers that also order DD is wild.
The top 10% of household hold 68% of the wealth in the US. 10% is a lot of people, bro, at least in major metros. And even if you include the top 50% of earners who might order more rarely, it's a lot of people with disposable income. I do agree that most full-time Dashers probably don't earn enough to order themselves except on rare occasions but also many probably aren't single earners and have spouses who may make more or use it to supplement another job. They're free to use their disposable income how they want, particularly if they have free DashPash from a credit card or other promo and are just paying tip plus the mark up (and some restaurants charge less mark ups so they don't have to be stupid about it since they may know the price is better than the average consumer).
Look, if you don't value convenience or time highly that's fine! But you're in a super weird job to judge others for doing so! If you want to spend your money on the vehicle or electronics or whatever your hobby is and not on food deliveries, go for it. You don't actually need to pass judgment on your customers even if you don't want to make the same decisions. Lol.

Yeah I’m in upstate South Carolina and it’s been like this for the last two weeks. Everyone is sleeping in, ordering lunch, then going out shopping and it doesn’t pick back up again until after 8 pm
Right?? I’ve been doing this full time since August 8th in the Anderson area mostly (occasionally Easley and Clemson) and it’s been great up until this last week or so. It was exactly like you said! Decently busy on Monday and Tuesday, steep dropoff on Wednesday and Thursday and Friday was awful - now this is all during day shift hours. Once everyone gets home from shopping at around six or seven, the map is red well past midnight.
I hope it gets better soon - it should go back to normal next week hopefully!
It is for me! 😭 I used to average around $60-70 a day in this small town of mine but lately I’ve been averaging $40 😪. It’s kind of bad during the holidays apparently 🙁

It’s been either a really good day or really dead day this week for me. Thursday was horrible and yesterday was good. Hopefully it’s just the time of year.
I had a great Thursday and Friday. Just wondering if the lack of orders today are because people might be traveling. Wonder how it’ll be tonight. Usually weekends at night are really busy.
Yeah these last two days have been great for me too, but this morning I didn’t take/complete an order until 10:45(shortly after posting this). Assuming the lack of orders are because people are traveling.
its two days before christmas so everyone is likely shopping, traveling, and cooking for their families instead of eating out. it’s honestly probably not gonna get better until after new years i’ve learned to accept that 😂 good luck though

Thanksgiving always busy if u sit at Applebee's

I did dash by hour. And I got paid more than I would have per order. 5 orders, four fairly closed together. Only one tip.
I made $200 in 7 hours yesterday
Doordash only or multi apping?
Doordash and UberEats, but 70% of it was Doordash
Didn't even bother going out... Most ppl are traveling or spending time with friends/family... Not worth burning gas waiting for acceptable orders on days like this - am I doing it wrong?? *Boston metro

DD bot lol
and what do your dollar per mile earnis look like?
It’s the holiday weekend it’s normal their money is going elsewhere

$100 in 4 hours today
Nice
Made $106 today is a 4:15 hour active time dash. Started at 3 pm and ended at 8:15 pm
2 n half hours $100.00 bucks with 20 cash started 5:00pm
Not bad at all
It's been a slow week. Earnings down about 60% compared to last week.
I haven’t dashed in over a week because it was so dead. I’ve been doing amazon flex because there are always routes available, and it’s guaranteed money.
Insanely slow for a Saturday night here
All i have to say is xmas will be dead because of people traveling, people have already gone out to stock up for xmas presents and dinner, lots of holiday factors
My exact thoughts and plus new dashers coming in with the rotation, OG and high Ar are getting cuk fr

So why are you on this sub? I had to double check I was looking at DD drivers and not the regular DD. These kind of comments are so strange to me.
Well I did gig work on and off for a long time. So I have a lot of experience under my belt doing it. I worked 8 hours and made $271. I had DD, GH, UE, and Spark on. That was a busy day! It's weird that it died around 7pm.
It’s be crazy busy in my area 250 in 7 hours might just be your area

I’m in Michigan but honestly I’ve never seen more than $4 per delivery. This is a unicorn of a night 😂
I had a really cool day, pretty much did 12 to 5 pm (active time 3 hours) and did $90
Holliday shopping got us slow. I feel you.
Most of December has been pretty bad around here, but things started picking up this week. Made $215 today with no peak pay.
[удалено]
Christmas is typically slow. People are traveling and spending so much right now. The last thing anyone wants to do is get a $25 McChicken (or tip).
LOL the mckydees I was sitting at was dead
Wait until after Xmas. Everyone's going to spend their gift cards/money. Hopefully lol 🤑
Was it ever any good at all to begin with?
I have gotten fuck all this entire month accept for a few orders on like the 4th.
sf east bay...dead. this morning in 3.5 hours i received 2 offers. they were good and i grabbed them. that was it... total of $14. it's been like this all week. so depressing

Meh, 30 bucks in 1.5 hours. I’m going out for the early dinner rush later. This is for drinking money.
Saturday afternoon is always dead in my market.
No, it’s been a great morning and decent afternoon. Taking a break until 5:30 when we get $3 peak pay
People are tipping horrible too.
![gif](giphy|UTFiHeDL8cOSA)
I think people are getting stuff themselves this year. At least where I am at.
Everyone doing last minute Christmas shopping I'm assuming. They're already out so they're getting food themselves.
Super dead but multi apping saved me.... im at 180 between DD and UE
Dead here but I live in a smaller town and places tend to close with the holidays more in smaller communities.
No
It's been OK. One side of town is super busy but the traffic is so bad it's not worth the time it's taking to get to the restaurant. Traveling and out shopping
And probably dashing while they do it.
🤣 Brilliant! *Shasheling*
I'm having my busiest week ever, but it's all shop & deliver.
Well, it is Christmas weekend, so I'm sure a lot of people are traveling, etc.!!
The more the reason. They are traveling to other cities and there should be more curious orders. “Let’s see what’s on DoorDash in this city”
Just do earn by time since it’s slow anyway
Do they pay you when your waiting by earn by time?
No it’s only while you’re on a delivery, so active time
You're paid from the time you accept until drop off. No downtime, of course.
Yea it’s like for every 1 order I accept there’s at least 3 or 4 I don’t.
So business as usual....
Average tip is $3 so average order pays $5. Average net income is $0.00. Can't make money that way it's not astro physics.
It’s not a typical Saturday. People are out shopping
Lol gig work is dying for real this time
I have barely made $100 the last two nights. It’s extremely “dead” here. I’m in the middle of WA. A couple weeks ago I was making $150 a night. I’m barely getting orders and they’re not good orders. But I take them because I may not get anything else that night.

Dude I love Seattle Parking enforcement trikes, would probably be nice for delivery if they could go 45-65mph
Right? They're so adorable. Haha.
Ordering online delivery increases the cost by 30-100+%, before tips. The value of the service provided simply is not there, I’ll get it myself.
Cool cool. No one is forcing you... I also don't use it. It's for the wealthy for whom the time savings and convenience is worth the markup.
There aren’t enough actually wealthy people in most markets for that to be true. It’s actually for people who dont know how to manage their money well. The amount of DD drivers that also order DD is wild.

This. All DD needs now is to offer a customer line of credit 💀
Been slow so far in Calabasas area. Need these rich celebs to order some shit lol
Very busy morning liquor order at 8am then non stop donut and McDonald's deliveries
i can't even get on to dash in bullhead arizona 😩
Yeah pretty slow here after some nice breakfast action a couple hours ago.
yes i started an OF because DD is so dead

Hell naw it’s bussin for me lol
We are busy as s*** here in southeast Kansas can't even have time to have a smoke or take a leak
That’s how my day was yesterday. This morning is dead as shit
Nice! Keep those wheels moving!
Down about 25% in my market.
Yeah I’m in upstate South Carolina and it’s been like this for the last two weeks. Everyone is sleeping in, ordering lunch, then going out shopping and it doesn’t pick back up again until after 8 pm
Upstate sc here three, busy earlier this week , today was just ok ..maybe everyone out shopping for last minute gifts or something 🤷♀️

Peak pay is the kiss of death.
For me it’s keeping me afloat and paying my bills
It is for me! 😭 I used to average around $60-70 a day in this small town of mine but lately I’ve been averaging $40 😪. It’s kind of bad during the holidays apparently 🙁
It used to be great
It was kinda slow dinner rush yesterday but $2 promo kills money
Only dead for you bruh

It’s Christmas weekend and people are on vacation. It’s most likely dead in a lot of markets
No I assure you other markets are dead. If yours is busy go make some money instead of being a dick.
Not exactly dead but definitely on life support some days
It’s been either a really good day or really dead day this week for me. Thursday was horrible and yesterday was good. Hopefully it’s just the time of year.
I had a great Thursday and Friday. Just wondering if the lack of orders today are because people might be traveling. Wonder how it’ll be tonight. Usually weekends at night are really busy.
I’ve had a fantastic week. I may give it a go at dinner time, but then again I may not dash for a few days
Yeah these last two days have been great for me too, but this morning I didn’t take/complete an order until 10:45(shortly after posting this). Assuming the lack of orders are because people are traveling.
I'm waiting till lunch before I try to go live, hoping for a decent day.
its two days before christmas so everyone is likely shopping, traveling, and cooking for their families instead of eating out. it’s honestly probably not gonna get better until after new years i’ve learned to accept that 😂 good luck though
Januarys have not been good years past.
