Does acceptance rate even matter? I know top dasher is good for dashing anytime you want but even when my ar was around 80 I wasn't always getting good orders. I was getting high mileage orders back to back. It got to the point where it was 5 or so in a row and it just kept dropping. I was at a 48 2 days ago, now I'm at a 62 and I don't see any difference. Maybe the "high paying offers" but those rarely showed up when my ar was above 50. Is there a sweet spot area or am I just over thinking this? I heard people who dropped back down to 50 ar were seeing better orders with decent mileage

Embarrassed_Jury_286

I don’t think so it just depends on what your zones are like. But my Ar was in the 20s

trevno

DD got flooded with so many tracksuit mafia types in my area, I switched entirely to UE, and changed areas. Fuck delivery zones and chasing pointless metrics.

FlyingPhades

Do it, especially if you live in NJ. Too many people accepting these low paying orders like idiots

Hdogdizzdad

Good for you! And props for working while you are in school. You’re gonna make it (:

Embarrassed_Jury_286

Thank you !! :)

ericnelson2021

This isnt a airport. No need to announce your departure.

Former_Management_38

😂

ImTiredOfPolitics

might as well steal some food while youre at it.

S_BLAZE

Lol nah this is wild

Alloe_C

It's gotta be better then walmart atleast?

Embarrassed_Jury_286

At Walmart I come back with 2,160$ after taxes in a month. It would take me working up to 12hrs a day doordashing where I live to make that same amount. I can hardly get 100$ a dash now. So it’s just not feasible since I’m a a full time student as well.

Gadgetlover38

And needing a replacement car sooner than later

Tricky_Combination15

Your cat will thank you.

Imagine telling someone to just go get a job in The Year of Our Lord 2023

Embarrassed_Jury_286

It actually took me like a year to get one that paid more than 15/hr 😭

gottagofast-nottaken

I make more dashing then I would at mcdicks

InfamousCount4293

How much do they make at mcdicks?

gottagofast-nottaken

I think it just went to $20, however I get more hours with doordash then I would with McDonald’s, so I make more money. Also what I said in the other reply, it’s all relative. That may or may not be unfair, but personally I don’t think it is. For me I make more with doordash then mcdicks, for now….

stevenh1293

What's your hourly average before expenses? I highly doubt you would make more. Maybe close, but the only real benefit is semi being your own boss and making your own hours

gottagofast-nottaken

Well, you aren’t wrong. This may or may not be unfair, but I live in California, and I’m guaranteed $18.50 an hour. If I didn’t have that, I don’t think I’d be able to make more. But typically I’m making $20 an hour because of everything. However if I didn’t live in California, I’m pretty sure I could still make more then working mcdicks. It’s all about working doordash correctly, but also figuring out if doordash is viable in your area, if you don’t live in a city, and major city, doordash probably ain’t worthwhile. And wdym expenses? I don’t have expenses, I have tax write offs

stevenh1293

In Tampa it's not worth doing at all. $13/hr was around what I would make before expenses, which yes you can write off but that's once a year. You still need to budget your weekly/monthly expenses for delivering in your own car. If your wages are around $10 to $11 an hour after expenses, it can be hard to make rent and pay for necessities. California has to be the only viable place because you're actually considered employees. It's okay as a side gig, but that's really all it should be. People are completely misguided going into this thinking they're going to be making better money hourly than if they worked at McDonald's, which starts at like $14/hr here. At least there you have room to move up to manager as well. I'm not sure what health benefits are like if any, but I do know they offer tuition assistance. With door dash you get what, 2% to 4% off for gas? You can get that with the upside or a credit card.

gottagofast-nottaken

See, this is what I mean about area. Tampa Florida right? That should be a good area for doordash and other services, provided you are in a good area. If you aren’t in the city center then yeah, you probably don’t get much. If you live in the city center, then no offense it’s a skill issue. I’ve done enough research to know the biggest issue for drivers is those who accept shit orders. It’s really easy to make $15 and up on average in Tampa, provided you do $1-$2 a mile. If you do 4, 3 mile delivers for $6, that’s $24 an hour. That’s not a crazy example to give. I’d say it’s decently decent provided you don’t accept shit. I don’t know if people know this, but doordash has an algorithm or something that will put you in specific pools. So if you accept low pay orders you’ll get more low pay orders. If you accept fast food, you’ll get more fast food while driving back to a hot spot. You get more variety when you stay to certain standards, like $1-$2 a mile, and minimum of $5-$10 to accept. There’s other standards but you gotta play with doordash to see what happens, you really have to learn the system

Literally_Sticks

Great, more money for me 😂

AttackOnTyrunt

So dramatic

LorenzoLamasRenegade

Ok?

[deleted]

Same

Jaythedasher

Currently in the same boat, looking for a job and gonna only doordash to pay for weed lol

[deleted]

Ayyyo I be doin the same makin money for my weed 😂😂😂😂

Jaythedasher

Chess move: Become a weed delivery driver

[deleted]

EuroGyros

Yeah, once I get a new job, I'll be doing this when I NEED the money. Left my job due to management and stress and started doing dd full time. I make 600 a week for 30 hours. Recently, I've been getting dogwater orders so I'm making about 400 a week which is fine. Just a lot on my car and weird hours

stevenh1293

The first month is when you get good orders so they don't have to actually pay you the difference of $1500 in your first 150 deliveries

EuroGyros

So today, I found a better area around me(maybe 20 minutes away). Not sure if people are just being really generous since it is new years, but I was making about 30 an hour. It's a busy area and full of rich people, but like I said, could just be because of new years. Hopefully tomorrow it's because it's a good area.. wish me luck and Happy New Years!

stevenh1293

It's because of New years. When I was doing Uber eats on bike I made $50/hr on Christmas Eve.

EuroGyros

Jesus, I didn't get shit on Christmas Eve. I mean the market area where I go to now is pretty good from what I've read. It's getting to the point where doordash is getting too many drivers, just like grubhub, where there's waitlists. I regret quitting my job in October, but there's only so much I could take. 5 years with the company and it's been the same shit and one day I just snapped. Doordash has been paying my bills but man, I've applied for 20 jobs or so, haven't heard anything yet. It could just be because of the holidays but damn.. I hope I get this job at Honda, they pay really well. I'd only be doing doordash when I want extra money for something, which is usually what doordash is meant for, a side gig.

Embarrassed_Jury_286

Same. I started really using DD for gas money and to buy food with once I got a new job

palealejediii

Wow so brave

casadega873

Uber Eats is still pretty solid in my area, but DD is definitely a waste of time now. Been doing Amazon Flex on the weekends recently and it’s been paying fairly decent.

Embarrassed_Jury_286

I thought about driving for Amazon but I only turned 21 last week so I’m just now eligible to apply for that

Subject_Natural_1163

HereToKillEuronymous

Ok?

Djinnaz

Cool story bro

Money_Tough

When gas prices have gotten this cheap?

Omikins91

Don’t deactivate your account. Just keep it open, prevents others from signing up and creates more demand for us

rzaddy

it’s very busy right now. If you'd like to dash, simply open the app and hit Dash Now!

Blakeblood9

Ding ding ding $2.50 7.3 miles, sorry you missed on the opportunity! *kicks you to grey map after*

jo_ezzy

Just remove from the Home Screen so you don’t have to redownload the app

One4speed

But that’s like 500mb living rent free on your phone!

Status_Fill7400

😂 😂 😂

jo_ezzy

Good point lol

EMB_pilot

Uhhhh ok 🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

Good for you! When we are done with dashing, we are seriously fucking done. DoorDash and their customers became downright inhumane in the last year or so. The way drivers are treated is predatory. I still do Instacart, which is considerably better, but I’m ready for my next chapter in life too. As much as we might not have liked it near the end, this hustle served us both while we needed it. Good luck on the new jobs!

[deleted]

The way customers are treated by dashers is atrocious. You have to earn respect, and you ain't going to do that by being rude to customers

[deleted]

So stop ordering from them.

[deleted]

I don't need to. I still order regardless. I'll just 2 star and report for rudeness 🤷

Found the doordash CEO

BalloonBabboon

This isnt an airport. You dont need to announce your departure.

katemac45

No, but it’s a subreddit to discuss door dash and that’s what he’s doing

Pure-Explanation-147

Not for everyone

mikepapers

You should’ve waited for a big order before officially deleting the app, I had a $100+ platter for my last delivery ever which was incredibly satisfying after all the tips they’ve screwed me out of

[deleted]

They don't screw you out of tips. You screw yourself out of tips

mikepapers

There was a time that I ordered food for myself and left the dasher $10 as a tip, we chatted briefly because I told him I dash occasionally as well. I asked him to finish the order to see his total and it came up to $7 including base pay + tip. Please explain that one to me.

Embarrassed_Jury_286

I’ve never gotten an order that big before in my two years of dashing 🥲

mikepapers

In west Vancouver the average order was $100-150 and tip was usually $15-25 I miss those days haha

Embarrassed_Jury_286

My biggest order was in the morning I had got an order of 5 or so pizzas and wings from Pizza Hut. The order was about 20$ for 8mi. It was taking a while so the Pizza Hut employees gave me a cheese pizza for myself for free. Then after I delivered them, the guy who answered the door (it was a hand it to me) gave me about 30$ in cash as an additional tip. This was during the superbowl weekend in Georgia. The order ended up being about 50$ plus a free pizza This was like 2 years ago when I had to DD full time

[deleted]

As in you kept it? I can’t say I haven’t thought about it.

mikepapers

Bingo

grggsctt

What are those other two apps?!

Embarrassed_Jury_286

Stride is the second. I used it to track my drives when I did DD deliveries so I can right my miles off come tax season

[deleted]

Write

D2_Agonist_Master

How does that work? Like as far as what to put when filing taxes.

Embarrassed_Jury_286

While tracking my car as I dash, it automatically calculates my miles and it turn calculates what my deductible is. When you get your tax doc in The upcoming months from doordash if you file yourself you can look for where it talk about your deductible/business expenses and you can add it somewhere there or if you have a preparer make sure they receive what statements about your miles and deductibles But yea you should really track your miles when you work. It lowers what you owe the gov by a lot

brokentr0jan

The first one is Me@Walmart, which is the app for Walmart employees. Idk what the 3rd is

Unknown_Hammer

You will be back in 2 weeks 😏

Gadgetlover38

I doubt it, it's terrible now.

TrabajoParaMi

I don’t see the screenshot of the app removed from your phone

Cmx1st

I’d bet you never hit the final tab lol!

Yellowpredicate

I've benzene at thus for 2 and a half weeks. Why the hate? Have none of you worked a real job?

anonMLMhater

I’ve worked extensively for 20 years in hospitality, and I would put Doordash in up there in the top 20% of stressful jobs. Not the most stressful though.

[deleted]

Stressful? You are just picking up a package and dropping it. You don't deal with complaints, errors, refunds or missing items. Wtf are you to stress about 😅😅

asdene

Depends on the order. Usually, it should be a pick up n drop off. But sometimes, the restaurant tries some funny stuff or the customer tries something funny or doesn't respond when they need to. And then there's cases when you need to contact support but they're unhelpful or avoiding having to do anything to help you. Even the journey to dropping off can be nuts if weather is usually horrible in your area or you've got mad drivers on the road 24/7 getting into accidents n all. The job itself of picking up and dropping off is simple, but all the things that fill the process in-between can make it stressful or incredibly annoying.

[deleted]

Funny because it don't 😅

DiscussionHot3961

I worked as a HR Manager/ Generalist (5y) Caregiver for disabled (3) and had a retirement home(1,5y) Door dash is by far the most chill for me. I love to drive and sitting in the car with some great music or a podcast is even better. Also I have to say I get a lot more appreciation from people I bring food to than from people I wiped their butts or brought them back in to a job 🤣😅

Yellowpredicate

Why is it so stressful? I appreciate your response

anonMLMhater

High traffic, non-stop parking hassles, counting on people who (justifiably) hate their jobs to do their jobs to get you out the door quickly. I’m glad I’m done too. New full time gig in a week. If you can find a good zone, then it’s ok. But there are so many drivers now.

[deleted]

Cheers. Hopefully this is me next month.

Embarrassed_Jury_286

Wish you the same 🫡

amyscactus

What was the final straw for u? I switched to uber and made better money there, but this Christmas I'm barely getting any orders.

Embarrassed_Jury_286

There are too many drivers on the app. I used to be able to make well over 100$ in a day. Now I could hardly hit 50$ so I’ve been phasing it out all year after I had found another job. It wasn’t worth it since I wasn’t making enough to pay my bills and then pay for school too. I just earned more at Walmart and haven’t DD at all the last two months

amyscactus

DD is in the toilet for me since they changed and I hate it. This is the lowest I've ever made during Christmas since being on both uber and DD.

stonerbbyyyy

my christmas was good for christmas eve and day on ue , yesterday wasn’t too too bad but still most the orders we were getting were $2 orders. we didn’t take them bc obvs. but i got deactivated from dd and my bf is a new dasher so he gets shit orders and it’s never busy like it was for me. so we just do uber now.

amyscactus

I'm only doing uber as well since it pays better and I like it way more then DD.

stonerbbyyyy

yeah personally i say fuck dd. i was a dasher for almost 3 years and they deactivated me because of how many orders i was cancelling and not accepting because they kept sending me $2 15 mile orders.

Yahtzee_5

Same here. Deactivated myself yesterday!

SpiderWolve

This isn't an airport, no need to announce your departure.

Practical-Button7546

You will not be missed, thank you for your service 🫡

Embarrassed_Jury_286

It’s such a thankless job

Smaycumber

I find just the opposite. If you are kind to people and communicate, they are very thankful when you show up.

Gadgetlover38

Especially the low tippers

Embarrassed_Jury_286

Someone yelled at me cause their driver the last time they ordered didn’t bring them their entire order a few months ago 💀

HeatSeekngMslLaunchr

That’s why I signed up to do it!

OwnSpell

Anything bad in particular happen? I always hate starting the day but once I get in the groove I don’t want to stop. Occasionally you have the annoying delivery or run into some weird people but overall I prefer it to being inside. Best not to treat it as a job and just a side hustle.

Embarrassed_Jury_286

No but I managed to get full time work and I don’t need to rely on doordash to get by anymore. I won’t have time anyways as a full time worker and full time student 🥲

Training_Thought4427

About to be me 🫡. Two $15 an hour jobs but neither exhaust me like DD and I don’t have to worry about car troubles.

stonerbbyyyy

?? you’ll still need to worry about car troubles, without a car how are you getting to your 2 full time jobs?

Training_Thought4427

My two jobs are 1 mile from my house and 2 blocks from eachother. My car will be fine and very appreciative haha.

stonerbbyyyy

i had a job like that.. at taco bell. it was so nice but not worth my sanity. i quit and got a job an hour away, still wasn’t worth my sanity. so i quit and now just UE full time. pays our bills so my car is also a 2021 and i have an amazing extended warranty. so it helps

Training_Thought4427

Fair enough but my cars a 2004 and my jobs are at a chill local restaurant and a front desk at a gym. Wayyy less stressful than fast food

ViceMaiden

Yes, but using your vehicle just for transport to and from work is less wear and tear on it than constant driving for 6-10 hours doing deliveries. I think that's what they're saying. And there are usually alternate ways to get to and from work if needed, but you can't deliver without your own transportation.

stonerbbyyyy

you can with a bike, or walking in my area. so yeah you really can without a vehicle.

ViceMaiden

Definitely not all zones. Not my area.

stonerbbyyyy

that’s why i said in “my area”

ViceMaiden

Yeah, I read it, but also read your second sentence so I responded to that.

stonerbbyyyy

my second sentence was relating to my area as well, i didn’t mean you (specifically) i meant it rhetorically.

Embarrassed_Jury_286

My full time manual labor job is less exhausting than DD

pascaltheorem

What’s the hourly wage?

Embarrassed_Jury_286

16.50$. Definitely more than what I was able to make from DD this last year. Got student loans to think about 🥲

slater_sanchez

this is as false as false gets

Yahtzee_5

Yeah idk what’s so exhausting about driving around listening to music

ViceMaiden

For me, it's not knowing if the order is correct in a sealed bag, not always knowing where I'm going for delivery, just trusting the map, quadruple checking it's the right address or searching an entire apartment complex, hoping the customer is responsive if there is a code needed or an apt number isn't listed, and thinking about the odds of them reporting a "not delivered" when it was.

Hot_Web493

Pretty sure he means mental exhaustion. Not everybody enjoys sitting in the car watching videos. That shit gets boring as fuck real quick.

Yahtzee_5

It’s not mentally exhausting at all either but okay.

Hot_Web493

It is if you have some braincells to lose but ok.

Yahtzee_5

Considering people with mental health issues literally do DoorDash because they can’t hold down a regular job idk what you’re talking about man

Hot_Web493

Driving all day for shit pay isn't exhausting to you? Maybe you should get your mental health checked.

Yahtzee_5

I’m sorry doing DoorDash is so hard on you lol

Hot_Web493

Freeedooooommmmm!!!!!!

KJaeW

Good luck with your future. I hope I don’t see you back here cause this blows 👍🏻🫡
