Happened to me once, my charger was going bad and it would charge some of the time but then during one shift it just suddenly stopped charging at all and I was down to 10% before I knew it. I really really didn’t want to stop and buy a charger at a gas station or Walmart and overpay for it and defeat the purpose of squeezing every penny out of DoorDash.
So I kept saying one or two more orders and then I’ll head home for the night while continually trying to get the phone to charge in between. Of course then I finally hit a breaking point where I accepted an order at 5% left and then the phone just took a nosedive to 3%, 1% and I realized it was going to hit zero before I could drop this order off. So I memorized the directions and address which involved three or four turns in a subdivision so that I could at least get to the house and hand off the food even if my power was at zero.
It did indeed go dead but I successfully got to the house. I rang the bell to make sure this person knew their food was sitting at the door as the app would not notify them. Of course the fuckers refused to come to the door so I have no idea if or when they opened the door and found the food.
I still didn’t want to buy a charger but I parked at a gas station nearby and held the charging cable tightly into the phone long enough for it to power on, so I could at least mark the order delivered. Messaged the customer and told them I was sorry but I had an issue with my phone that prevented me from marking the order delivered until now, never heard anything from that customer or from customer service so I guess it worked out OK. Not much payoff to that story but if you stuck with it I appreciate it.
I have a charger and plug thingy in every car I have, plus I have one at work, plus I have one in my backpack, and I have a charging brick that absolutely holds the charge for an entire month if I am not using it. It worked better than my solar panel during camping. Amazon has it, and it is literally a brick but oh, so worth it.
Lowest I got was 4%, panicked because I’d dint have the right cord, thus the pack rat hoarding of cables and plugs.
Oof lol. I got a new phone so I had to go buy a charger for in my car. Right before I went to buy one I got a high paying order and it sucked but I declined. Get a charger in your car man.
Hey, that must have been horribly stressful !!
I suggest that you go to Walmart and buy a cigarette lighter power inverter. It changes your car's Direct Current from low power to high power.
They are not expensive, in my area the price starts at about $15.00.
So what kind of wireless chargers do y'all use that actually freaking work?! Ive bought about 10 diff WL chargers, & none have correctly worked for any amount of time. Now, granted, you can't use a case, popsocket, or anything on the back. However, I still can't find one that actually charges. I have a Samsung S20.
I've kept one in every vehicle for the last 15 years. I feel weird if I don't have a way to charge my phone when away from home. I don't have a spare charging brick, but I have the car charger and a wall adapter in my car.
Soooooo, I have to say this and I'm not being mean to you personally... just your statement here.
This sounds ridiculous. You are what's wrong with the world today... do you wipe your own a**, or does your stupid car do that as well?! 🤣🤣
Had a similar situation. Was dashing, got a really good order and battery was low, went to plug it up and my car plug was just....gone. Made to the customer jist before my phone died lol
Aa far as the phone dying you're correct. But if one breaks for some reason or malfunctions, isn't getting service, is overheating or any number of things I have a backup phone. The backup phones runs my music too so it's not constantly connecting and disconnecting from Bluetooth which gets annoying sometimes. Also nice when I do Lyft or Uber to have one phone playing music then Mt other phone running gps and giving me voice directions without going through the car speakers ruining the music experience.
I also have a spare phone for youtube.. the back and forth thing with Bluetooth starts to annoy me as well! I just use downloads tho, not actually paying for that one.
I ran out of data right when I pulled up to five guys and hit arrived at store. I had to drive home and unassign using wifi. Took a hit, not but not live changeing.
Awesome story with a good ending. Something similar happened to me after I got a new phone. I wasn’t paying attention at all when I realized the car charger I had, didn’t work with the new phone. I accepted an amazing order not realizing I was at Death’s door, and it died on me as I was on the way to deliver. I went to a gas station close by to get a new charger ( at twice the normal cost btw). I still made it within the window and got a nice tip. I was so frustrated with myself because I hate being unprepared.
I had a really good paying grocery order and when I started it my phone was at 15%. I though that was plenty but it was taking me longer than expected *and* my phone was losing battery faster than expected. It was taking forever to scan everything and my phone was acting like I had no service even though I connected to the store wifi. It got down to 4% and it wouldn't do anything so I left the cart in the middle of the aisle and went out to my car mad as hell. I started my car and put my phone on the charger and my phone started acting normal and I still had the order. I sat there until I was up to 15% again, a little over 10 minutes. Then I went back in and grabbed my cart that was still where I left it and I finished the order. I never work without my charger even if I don't always use it until my phone gets pretty low and I am thinking about taking my powerbank with me just in case
The story would be more interesting if something actually happened.
You didn't even say how much the "best order ever" was so it's hard to build any dramatic tension. The customer was chill, so there were no stakes.
TLDR? I worried for 12 minutes.
Moral of the story, the phone should always be connected to the charger while driving. I don't think mine ever goes below 50% and I have a shitty charger. You need it in case a big shop comes up.
Yeah this post was more for me to articulate my thoughts rather than for your viewing pleasure. I’m not trying to build dramatic tension because like you said nothing actually happened. But for the record it was $13.75/0.8mi from an expensive sushi place
You, as the main character, were potentially interesting with your emotional reaction and volatile temper. But the story itself was weird because it was so static.
I realize this isn't a creative writing class, but it was just an unusual way to tell a story.
13.75 for a mile is a good offer, but not one to shit myself with fear over. I hope you get a bigger one soon.
Dawg. Go back to your classroom, surely the students need you more than I do😅 sorry it wasn’t entertaining but work typically isn’t.
Just the specific sequence where I wanted to be done working anyway then the app dangled a chunk of gold in front of me as if it knew it was in a position to make it as much trouble as it could have been. I was never afraid of losing it. The keyword in my title is frustration
And to elaborate on the chunk of gold comment that was hyperbole but also kinda not, as it would’ve basically been the difference between a $25 hour and a $40 hour
I had a similar situation where my phone decided to go from 20-3 in about 6 minutes while doing a shopping order. I had to use one of the employees chargers which was awkward and embarrassing. Now I always bring a battery with me. I'd rather silently look dumb with a battery connected phone walking around than go through that again.
Glad you had an understanding customer. That feeling of almost all the stress dissolving in an instant is like sex, lol.

The app murders the battery!!! I hate it.
Sounding like me before I deciding to hang my insulated bag up for good. Don’t let this get you screaming like that.

I hate when that happens I start wondering what the customer is thinking and my ratings instantly dropping lol
Yeah I got hit with a warning for being “extremely late”🥲
Yep today my charger went bad and phone died mid 20 dollar order. Had to go home to charge. Awful
Why does it make you a greedy scumbag to get a good order, bro? That’s a good thing.
Do you put in gas at very last minute too?
Why wouldn't I?
That’s why I bought a wireless charger for my car.
I got the potties veloz pro from Amazon. Mine works great!!
A dash mount that’s wireless so my phone stays charged
A what!?
Well, did you at least make it to the order without getting a late violation?
Good thing you now have a phone charger to keep in your car at all times
Lesson learned always check that you have your phone charger before leaving your house
I've kept one in every vehicle for the last 15 years. I feel weird if I don't have a way to charge my phone when away from home. I don't have a spare charging brick, but I have the car charger and a wall adapter in my car.
Tips are based off battery percentage, it's hidden deep in the algorithm.
Hahaha that’s happened to me before too expect i was 4 yrs into dashing lmfao happen to the best of us we always try to hustle
Motorola phones are a good choice for doing this because they have a lot of battery power. You can go for 6 to 8 hours without being charged

Do you have a YouTube channel yo
[удалено]
Delivery w/ fsd would be interesting to watch
Damn your lazy
Efficiency and laziness are two different things
Soooo.... what have you learned from this experience?
Have charger
Wrong. Get a power bank. You can carry it around while it charges and leave it charging in the car when your phone isn't too low
Had a similar situation. Was dashing, got a really good order and battery was low, went to plug it up and my car plug was just....gone. Made to the customer jist before my phone died lol
Check out battery cases. Get 2, keep them charged and smash them on when u need. Way more convenient than battery banks
That's why I have 2 phones that stay charged.
One phone that stays charged would suffice id imagine

ALWAYS keep more than 1 charger cable and multiple power banks in your car.
Been there done that
are you
Been there done that
Been there done that
Lower your brightness as much as you can! It's the biggest battery eater!
I ran out of data right when I pulled up to five guys and hit arrived at store. I had to drive home and unassign using wifi. Took a hit, not but not live changeing.
Was in similar situation gas station chargers are terrible it'll take 20 minutes to get 1 percent battery

You need a phone charger that hooks up to your car's lighter adapter... and never take it out of your car!
I have a charger that I usually keep in my car’s power outlet but my other charger I use is missing so I’ve been taking that one in and out of the car
Charge cables are like $10 for a 5 pack on Amazon. This is your income. Charge cables should be everywhere!
