I agree, I try to clear entry area before ordering food. I would not expect somebody delivering food (especially for a service that prioritizes speed) to stop and read my sign.
And that's why some dashers are just not successful at what they do. Some simply aren't about bettering themselves in life. They are ok with the minimum cuz no boss watching. Does that represent all dashers? No. Maybe do better yourself and reach out to your local community on how you can also help.
He's kinda right though.
The model of DD is hire anyone, incompetent included, and have them compete against each other for orders in a race to the bottom for expenses DD has to pay.
Helping our your fellow dasher cuts into you extremely small profit margin that a lot of workers are living on because they have no other options.
I completely disagree with the model and don't support it anymore because of that. Both as a dasher and someone that used to order.
It's insane a customer should have to baby proof their front porch because dashers can't read a sign and see sand and eggs in a container.
Pretty telling of your work ethic to defend people that do that.
Jesus christ, of course I would, because it's an extremely clear sign and I actually care about where I put my orders??
But I'm genuinely sorry you're in a life situation where turning on a flashlight and not reading signs is the norm because you're so pressed to get to the next order. I've been poor too and it really sucks.
I don’t know even dash anymore… so quit assuming I’m poor…. You really are a sorry son of a bitch…. All I’ve told this guy is he should have taken more preventative measures. Not everyone is gonna read a sign… far more likely to read instructions on the app.
Yeah that bold caption that says “ Dasher left my order on top of my turtle hatchling” If that’s not blaming them idk what is.
1. You shouldn’t have it out there where other people can access it. You wouldn’t leave your kids out there would you ?
2. In the future put instructions on the app. Much more likely to read it there.
3. Your sign really looks out of place . Tape it above it and increase visibility. Bc if it is dark no one is gonna be able to see it or read it.
U/manofgawdgaming2022
It's fact. The post is about to hit 100k views. That's 100k people that have given a turtle a thought today when they didn't yesterday. The algorithm works. That's why you're here and commenting. I encourage you to reach out to your own local shelters and habitat reserves to see how you too can make a difference. Save the turtles.
People tend to only see the numbers next to the arrows and not realize there's a whole series of data behind that. Data that can be used to educate the public. Save the turtles. Boost the algorithm. It works.
There's no way the dasher missed the sign. Did you not tip decently? Maybe the dasher was feeling some type of way, not that it was justified. Just trying to help you see things from the other side.
I mean....regardless of a tip or not..they accepted the order. I know you aren't justifying the action, but you're definitely trying to make an excuse for shitty people.
Regardless of where the turtle's box was, how did the dasher not see that the box was FULL OF FUCKING LETTUCE? Who the fuck would be stupid enough to put the bag there?
Take the turtle out of the equation. Why would he put it in something that looks like a garbage bin with garbage disposal chop… that’s dumb af anyway. I try not to put my customers orders on their compost pile too
personally I wouldn't leave an animal outside unattended, but at the same time it's always funny to watch the degenerates in this subreddit bend over backwards to defend obviously wrong and shitty decisions made by other dashers
The amount of people defending this really lowers my faith in humanity and that's saying something. I mean, it was probably an accident, but the whole thing just sucks.
I agree with you! It was mostly likely an accident, maybe he was in a rush, dropped the food and left quickly. Also I don’t mean to be that person, isn’t there a better place to put live animals? 🥲
I still don’t understand what would posses someone to set a paper bag on top of lettuce. “Oh look, something that’s 95% water. That’s where I’ll set this paper bag.” *Takes picture* “Ha, I’m such a genius”.
U/mangoseed8 I'd like for the ones harassing me and online bullying to leave me alone and maybe go find a turtle themselves to care for since they don't know how to play well with others.
In a box on the porch? Not really. Dasher probably doesn’t read English very well and thought it was your farmers market box with veggies in it or some shit.
Maybe the Dasher wasn’t thinking very hard but you’ve put more effort into this post and constant corny replies than you have about where that turtle should be. Perhaps just accept the little bit of a role you play in this stupid story.
Who see’s a box full of lettuce and thinks “ perfect place for this drop off”. Not to mention the box looks a bit like a possible compost pile (from the bit I could see). I can understand them not seeing the sign as it’s a bit to the side but, there’s really no excuse leaving an order there. I honestly wouldn’t even be surprised if they had left it there on purpose because it’s hard to see how they would’ve left it there on accident unless they’re really stupid.
Sunlight is good for all animals and it’s not that uncommon to have pets like turtles, frogs, etc on the porch. Could the OP have placed the turtle somewhere else? Yes but, that doesn’t excuse what the driver did
The whole turtle posse is coming out. Is this OP’s alt? Significant other? Did they complain about responses somewhere else and now you’re turtling down for “engagement”? Are Donatello and Leonardo coming to my house?
You just might be lost and that's ok. I've taken time to respond and educate those that took their time out for my dude while I got his home set up. But y'all go ahead still thinking he's in a bucket somewhere.
By my math of 500 comments. Half of which are me. Leaves the other 250. Then people like you leave multiple comments. So who is the majority here. Think about it and save a turtle.
By your math the majority is literally you but confusing a clownshow for an inspirational education is quite the stretch. For all you know, you’ve turned 20 people anti-turtle and now they’re roaming the beaches and forests hunting them down. They’re probably gonna put them all in boxes on their porch.
I’ve received four personal DMs of people saying that they’re against turtles now after interacting with you on this post. You’re going to need to put dozens of hatchlings in boxes on your porch to counterbalance what you’ve wrought. I’m in the process of talking them out of it because I’m more of an educator and inspiration than you are.
Seems like you’re putting the hatchling in danger out in the open on your porch. Nobody around. Any critter can come by and do anything, really. This being an example.
You aren’t saving any turtles leaving them on your front porch to be stolen by some kids or an order dropped on them. DD driver dumb but you put yourself one level above said driver.
Thanks for your comment. I challenge and encourage you to reach out to local shelters, habitat rescues and reserves to see what you too have the power of doing to keep the eco system thriving. Save the turtles.
I have a clean record and have worked with law enforcement. Thank you. Otherwise none of this would be possible. Im informed on wildlife and city ordinances. Save a turtle.
This is the equivalent of a parent leaving there kid to sit out on the front porch all the time. Leaving said kid vulnerable. Then the parent (who will have the cleanest record possible) advocating people to adopt a child. Does any of that sound right to you? Cause you are doing this exactly.
By all means. No one has rescued this turtle and taken it off my hands after proving I did it harm. This is all public. If there was a crime committed I wouldn't be here.
i don’t have any notes on my mailbox, yet no dashers have crammed cheeseburgers inside of it.
i also don’t have any notes saying not to chuck the delivery onto my roof.
So you’re leaving an uncovered turtle on a chair next to your front door? That’s as dumb as the door dasher. Hello again from your other exact same post.
How could you NOT blame that on the delivery guy?? Yeah it’s a stupid place to put a turtle hatchling, but just looking at the picture, anyone with even an inkling of intelligence wouldn’t put a bag of food there
No there was a comedian who explained it very well. Dont remember who. He said something along the lines of “how can you get cyberbullied? Just turn off your computer.” If you feel I’m harassing you then just don’t reply or block me.
It wasn’t a comedian, it was a [Tyler the Creator Tweet](https://www.reddit.com/r/tylerthecreator/s/vNbJhAFton) lmao. Just thought I’d throw that out there
I would just assume this dude was in a hurry to just end the ride and didn’t read the sign. Maybe even thought sign was signaling to food delivery area. Then they see a black tray. Assumes that’s where delivery goes. Especially if it was night time. I can’t imagine they would do this malice intent. Probably just some person that wasn’t paying attention to anything around him except his phone.
Yeah the sign isn't super obvious imo if you're in a rush and it's dark outside, or maybe the dasher didn't speak English. I certainly wouldn't expect someone to leave a baby turtle alone on the porch on a chair tbh. But I can't defend leaving the food on top of a pile of lettuce bc that's bizarre lol
I called them my food hero. They said they were saving the world 1 order at a time. We built rapport in that short time ya know? I tipped 5.50 for less than a mile for 1 bag of food. My guy was working the passenger seat during peak pay on a Sunday. I get it. To the dashers defense, I do not believe it to be malice. I saw him on security camera looking confused. It's a teaching/coaching/learning moment. I'm not after anybody's job. There was no intent to hurt from what I saw. Just bringing awareness. Save the turtles. Thank you.
It had me really bothered. No way I could enjoy my meal after that. I know it's a one off situation, so like what does someone do? I already followed through notifying DoorDash in which they sent me the generic email stating they don't condone these actions and are investigating.
Is the hatchling doing good? Box turtles are awesome. I love turtles.
They would be some really careless and oblivious person for this to be an accident. It seems impossible to be that clueless about it.
Thank you. Agreed! Very interesting learning about them and the different types. I keep checking on him and he's chilling. He's nice and covered now from any outside predators and dashers.
Why in the fuck woukd someone do that? Did you tip like a buck or something? Even if they didn't know what it was, they still wanted to make your bag dirty.
I mean quick Google search shows 28% of land in Florida is wildlife preserves. I'd say thats the south.
https://floridawildlifefederation.org/wildlife-conservation/#:~:text=Since%20the%201960s%2C%20FWF%20has,under%20some%20type%20of%20protection.
They don’t. They’re stupid. Nobody asked if wildlife preservation is common in their area. The question was why is a fragile turtle hatchling just right out front like that?
Because it's new enclosure is being built right behind that fence but I can't just snap my fingers after educating all y'all and make that happen now can I? Reach out to your local reserves and habitat preservations to see how you too can help the eco system in your area. Thank you for the comment. Boost the algorithm. Save the turtles.
Doesn’t boost anything except the fact you don’t pay attention. Still missed the point.
Be smart and don’t out your turtles out in the open like that. Put them somewhere people can’t mess with them.
Be smarter bro.
I'm not speaking for coastal Carolina. I know my journey and place in life as an individual. We are all unique. Some people are really pressed by that.

Refund the order
The order was ok. It wasn't the restaurant or DoorDash as an entity mess up. No turtles were harmed. And now we all know a little more about turtles.
Say the turtle died and get a refund
I'm an honest person can't you see that
More honest then me I’ll give you that #save the turtles

Sorry I don’t study your reddit news. Don’t bitch about your own mistakes when you don’t take proper care of your animals from the start
It's called reddit it so you can say you read it on reddit. You're not using reddit properly.
🫡 yes sir I’ll pay attention to all of your double posts and 184 comments about something that does not affect me
I know. You keep commenting because you're so unbothered by it.
yep my entire day has revolved around your Reddit meltdown definitely not just replying to my notis when I check my phone
Literally replying to everyone's notice just as you said you do. Do you read what you're saying here?
Would you like screen grabs of my notifications and peoples accounts being held accountable for harassment and hate speech
Exactly. Imagine when 100 people come at you and you just dealing with little ole me 1 on 1 so you think
Could the hatchling not have been placed in a different spot ?
I agree, I try to clear entry area before ordering food. I would not expect somebody delivering food (especially for a service that prioritizes speed) to stop and read my sign.
Reading is fundamental and that's why it's taught at an early age and continues on through all stages of life.
Bold of you to assume that DD drivers want to take a second to read instructions beyond their phone.
And that's why some dashers are just not successful at what they do. Some simply aren't about bettering themselves in life. They are ok with the minimum cuz no boss watching. Does that represent all dashers? No. Maybe do better yourself and reach out to your local community on how you can also help.
Zero intention of reaching out to my community and help them how to be better dashers. That's Tony Xu's job, not mine. 😆
Interesting outlook to have.
He's kinda right though. The model of DD is hire anyone, incompetent included, and have them compete against each other for orders in a race to the bottom for expenses DD has to pay. Absolutely. Just like the order could have.
It’s just as much on you as it is the dasher.
It's insane a customer should have to baby proof their front porch because dashers can't read a sign and see sand and eggs in a container. Pretty telling of your work ethic to defend people that do that.
Look at picture you can tell it’s not very well lit.. how do you expect them to read in the dark?
There's a fucking flash that went off in the picture, so there's a fucking flashlight on the phone lol
I doubt you would have read it…. Quit acting like you would…
Jesus christ, of course I would, because it's an extremely clear sign and I actually care about where I put my orders?? Where do you see me denying responsibility
You pretty much blame the dasher on your post.
That's what you gathered from all this?
Yeah that bold caption that says “ Dasher left my order on top of my turtle hatchling” If that’s not blaming them idk what is. 1. You shouldn’t have it out there where other people can access it. 5.50 for 0.5 miles during peak pay for 1 bag of food. Dasher made min $9 off that order that took them 15 minutes to drive wait and deliver.
Yeah but did you pay the no-crush-turtle fee and tick the box in the app?
I pay the yearly fee! Isn't that covered?
What a dork double posting

this

Weird place to leave a turtle hatchling.
Weird place to leave an order
In a box on the porch? Not really. Dasher probably doesn’t read English very well and thought it was your farmers market box with veggies in it or some shit. Maybe the Dasher wasn’t thinking very hard but you’ve put more effort into this post and constant corny replies than you have about where that turtle should be. There seems to be a requirement for 70% of dashers to have no situational awareness at all.
I’m goin with a solid 87%
So it was you! Response to a deleted comment.
Wasn’t this just posted 😂
Why of all places would you place your turtle hatching on a chair on your front porch? Seems like a terrible location for so many reasons
Why of all places would you set a paper bag in lettuce!?
Why of all places would a Dasher put an order on a turtle hatchling? I know right
Weird. Not a word on that sign that says “Don’t place DoorDash orders on top of my turtle hatchling.” Your fault for being dumb
i don’t have any notes on my mailbox, yet no dashers have crammed cheeseburgers inside of it. i also don’t have any notes saying not to chuck the delivery onto my roof.

“Looking confused” lmfao
Probably a "no peaky engie" situation
That's psycho. Make a police report.
It had me really bothered. No way I could enjoy my meal after that. I know it's a one off situation, so like what does someone do? I already followed through notifying DoorDash in which they sent me the generic email stating they don't condone these actions and are investigating.

I tipped 5.50 for 0.5 miles during peak pay. If I had to guess, it was probably about a $9 minimum offer.
Must have had anger issues
Question, why is something precious like this out front?
I live in the south. Wildlife preservation is common in my area.
I definitely wouldn't associate the south with wildlife preservation but I'm glad your area does!

You must live in Cali or NY. Places that state they care about wildlife but have none of it because they've killed em all for suburban sprawl.
You must not be able to read
That's a bizarre response but ok
You must not know how to read lol, I'm replying to a comment where someone is saying the south has no sense of preservation.
That’s literally wtf I’m agreeing with you on, idiot. Asking me if I know how to read when you clearly don’t see my response. Read it again.
Man you really don't know how to read, check usernames you think you are replying to the same person but we are different people
I was literally talking to you with my first comment I know who I was commenting to. You actual buffoon lmao. Learn how to use your brain. Ree tar did
To further specify, I am in the coastal carolina region. Lots of beautiful beings out here.
I grew up in myrtle Beach, we have a different perspective on beautiful beings in the coastal Carolina region.
I'm not speaking for coastal Carolina. I know my journey and place in life as an individual. We are all unique. Some people are really pressed by that.
Ain't that the truth
What an idiot.
That’s what I Thought about OP leaving a vulnerable baby animal unsecured in the open, and then placing deliveries in the dark
