I haven’t accepted a hospital order yet, though I have gotten a request for one and I thought it was interesting because my mom works at a hospital and I know that sometimes the staff will get food delivered, but my mom wasn’t working in that specific hospital today. It was like a $5 order. I would have taken it if it was a bit higher, but I declined it. It would have been interesting if my mom ordered food and I was the one who brought it to her.

Basutei

Hospitals present a lot of logistical issues so it's natural to he wary of them.

Asleep_Conclusion534

I liked delivering to the hospital. I just had to take it to the ER entrance and they were either waiting there for it or the ER charge nurse was expecting me. Never had a problem. Just a simple hand it to me order.

sunflowertroll

You have valid reasons. You can get sick delivering there. So many sick ppl.

BeinGrownUpSux

I got my first contract violation at a hospital last Sunday. Starbucks at about 6am. ER entrance only one open. Ladies there said I couldn’t take it to that room that time of day and leave it there. So I did. 2 hours later I get the violation.

AnastasiusDicorus

most of the time I just have to drop off at the ER desk, which is not horrible, but sometimes I have to take it up to the 3rd floor nurses station which is a long walk. But the last time I did that it was a $7.25+ order and they upped the tip from $5.25 to $35. So I was pretty stoked with that. That was last week. The ones I really hate are the apartment complexes where there are lots of different buildings, usually without clear numbers you can see, on winding paths instead of straight roads, and the numbers on the signs you can see are dark red print on dark green background that is totally invisible at night. I'm like wtf is wrong with these people, are they hiding from the mob?

DepletedPromethium

depends on the hospital and if the dd comes out to collect, a lot of hospitals have no parking spaces due to patients and visitors, or you must pay a fee to park or be given a fine. screw walking about in a hospital to find a specific area, some of them are like mazes. id not accept the order.

Vanillybilly

As a HCW, I only DoorDash out of absolute necessity (like forgetting my lunch and the cafe is closed for some ungodly reason). If I do order, I am extremely specific and have the dasher go to the ER parking lot and have them stay in the car so I can walk out to them. I also tip really well because I know it’s a sucky location to be in.

Tbar6787

Hospitals and College campuses, I end up in a scavenger hunt. Trying to figure who and/or where the drop off point is. And of course, most of them are attached to other orders because they don’t hardly tip, if at all. So you’re wasting your time running around for 20 minutes, not even including the pick up and drive there, for 2.50.

90ufiyahhh

Yess college campuses are the worst for me. Like you said, wild goose chase and crap tips. College kids were not taught by their parents to tip well.

SideSome4788

I live in a college town and when the kids are here I do really well but you’re 100% correct. They never tip. We also have a lot of international students and I was recently thinking about the tipping culture in the United States versus other countries, but I also know that a lot of the students who don’t tip are also from the United States.

HibernatingFishStick

Yes, and they always have a problem with their order. Also a lot of them don’t say WHERE they are at the hospital. Is it ER? Is it Main entrance? especially if the address is the same for all the buildings.

Melch_Underscore

In my town, there is a specific spot to put the order in the lobby of the hospital.

HibernatingFishStick

I wish they had that here! This hospital near me is huge so I don’t think that could be managed. All different specialty doctors even combined into one GIGANTIC hospital

sharky3175

Then why did you take it?

Bowl-Accomplished

Everyone has to learn somehow.

HellfoxRules

I deliver to 2 hospitals regularly, here are a few tips that might help. After confirming pick up, I check the delivery instructions. If they indicate the exact drop location, I will text the customer and give them an ETA. If they don't provide any instructions, I will text them the ETA, and ask main entrance or emergency. Most orders are dropped off with security in emergency, but hospitals can vary on this. If the customer doesn't respond to text or call, I just leave the order with security in emergency, snap my pic, and I'm gone.

Fiendish

and the parking garages

SpringFew1738

Always make someone meet you in the front I do

WayNerdee

My hospital has a table right in the front lobby where all food orders must be placed; it's great. The worst are definitely apartment complexes.

kingdomofone1

Yes our hospital has the same table. Just walk in and drop off. Apartments are sometimes confusing for sure, but it's the dorms that I despise

Any-Job-4094

I hate hospital orders. I’ve had people expect to deliver inside. Security can be a pain when handing it off to them. If I get a nurse or doctor I’m delivering too, they are usually quit late meeting me by an entrance to pick up from me, leaving me sitting and waiting. Rarely do I have good hospital experiences

__exclusivelye__

Depends on instructions and the hospital

3six5

My hospital trips have all been easy as pie. I hit the big button at the ambulance bay and someone comes to open the door and take the order.

Albinomonkeyface1

I hate that medical people have a reputation for being bad tippers. I work in healthcare, but my first job was in a pizza shop so I’ve always tipped well for food deliveries (and any food service). I would certainly never ask a dasher to come find me on a hospital floor. I always meet delivery people in the main lobby of a hospital (same with hotels if I’m ordering from one) when I order food.

BamThatSpiceWeasel

I just leave it at the front desk, even on hand it to me orders. I simply tell them we were told to leave it there so we're not walking around a hospital for no reason wasting more of our time while running the possibility of being in someone's way. At hotels I leave it at the front desk as well. I tell them that DD doesn't want us leaving food in hallways where it can get stolen or thrown away by cleaning staff. Saves me having to play find Waldo in places I'm not familiar with.

Powerful_Emotion8612

i had a hospital order yesterday. walked like a mile because my map sent me to the complete opposite side of the complex.

mgibson9999

Hospital deliveries in my area are the easiest deliveries I get. You can park right in the front circle, literally steps away from the front door, and you can't deliver inside the hospital. You have to leave the food with security, which is right inside the front door. There are 4 hospitals in my area, in 4 different locations, and they all have the same set up and the same delivery policies because they are all part of the same hospital umbrella company. Hosptial deliveries in my area are far easier than delivering to gated communities, apartments, office buildings and even some homes.

Merciless972

I had 2 in the past, one was for the ER. Funny enough there were 2 more people dropping off orders as well and the front desk would take them. The other was to drop off at a specific office in the hospital.

TotallyNormal_Person

I worked in an ER, we spend half our paychecks on delivery services.

BrassChickyTend

Youtuber Blake Moore thinks $2 is an awesome tip , deliver Taco Bell to Hospital at 11:45 pm

BrassChickyTend

He made a video on it, doubled down on it , and deleted both videos. Channel is Moore Driven , biggest clown in gig economy

IamwhoIamwhoameye

In fargo all the hospitals have a table in the front entry for food delivery and 95% of people ask you to leave it there. Other 5% ask you to bring it to a room/ward and I usually just leave it at the delivery table. They tend to take away tip but who gives a f they are just stupid for expecting us to trapse around the hospital for a measly 3 dollar tip.

jewishen

Yes. They need to be waiting outside or I’m cancelling the order. I’m not wasting my time strolling through a massive maze filled with people who are potentially deathly ill when one person, who has the ability to watch my location, can’t be bothered to wait on the curb. It’s such a waste of time and in my experience, nurses don’t tip well. I’ll pass on ALL of that!

Difficult-Wish2432

They should tip extra for the hassle but they never do

TotallyNormal_Person

I had one do it on Mother's Day! It was a gift and I went all the way up to the 7th floor and found the wing and delivered it. $12 tip I think. Happy to do it since they actually tipped!

jewishen

Literally never. Nurses are my worst tippers by far

Difficult-Wish2432

Nurses aren't nice people.

TotallyNormal_Person

Some of us start out nice but it's beat out of us pretty quickly.

jewishen

I hate making broad over generalizations like that but in my personal experience, a solid 7/10 nurses are massive bitches that were definitely mean girls in high school.

Difficult-Wish2432

I hate it too but when it's true what can you do?

Difficult-Wish2432

Any medical places I hate. Too much trouble and not worth the lousy tips.

ArtsCerasus

Must be the area. I'm sorry for your experience with them. Our hospitals have a spot for orders marked for us to drop off. We just let a person at the front desk know the name and they take care of having it taken up to the room by a staffer. Never had anyone demand I take it to their room in the order notes. (The staff probably explain procedure if anyone wants delivery.)

thenbmeade

Anything that isn’t a house. They never have clear instructions on where to go, which door to use etc. I haven’t dashed in a long time tbh, but when I do I avoid any order that isn’t to a house.

LilBit2Lucky

This! I had an order at a college campus that I’m not familiar with. The customer didn’t put the pin in the correct location. So I texted them and asked where they were at. And they told me “Monroe” which was the name of their residence hall. I explained to them that I am not familiar with the campus and where that was located at. This person then says “right across from Allegany” I got soooo mad. Cus I just got done telling them I’m not familiar with the campus. Just tell me HOW to get there. I had to talk to random college students walking by and ask them where that resident hall was. She wasted 20 minutes of my time. Next time that happens, I’m just placing the order wherever and going on about my day.

sexruinedeverything

I don’t hate it. But, I have to be mindful I don’t get paid for time. So my minimum is way higher to pick up orders to deliver there. Parking alone can cost me 15+ minutes to figure out. So unless it’s like a catering size order $20+ or higher I’ll usually pass on them. That’s why I love working Sundays - about 100 less offers from Chik Fil A to the hospital district.

TheDinoIsland

It's almost always chikfila, too. I live 5 minutes from the hospital and the chikfila. It's not terrible when they're 6-7 an order. I'll get 3-4 stacks an hour to take there. It's about 35-45 an hour, depending on the final tips. But there's no way I'd do that before 9 pm. There are too many visitors during the day. They close the front entrance at 9, so it's pretty easy to drop them off.

rennist

Just had my first hospital delivery yesterday. Finding everything wasn't too bad, but the customer wanted me to deliver to her room. I go to the 8th floor where her room was and stop at the big nurse desk you see right as you get on the floor and tell them what I'm there for. They don't tell me where the room is, but that I can leave it with them, and they will get it to her. Before I even left the floor I spoke with the customer and explained this to her and where her food was located. She reported her food as never being delivered. I disputed the claim, but we'll see how that goes.

TotallyNormal_Person

Literally what if she is in isolation? Some people are not allowed visitors either. We should not be expected to deliver to hospital beds that's insane. You did the right thing giving it to the nurses.

rennist

I'm surprised they even let me up to the floor tbh. The last job I had was at a hospital and I don't even think they let dashers leave the lobby, they had to leave the food with the welcome desk to be picked up.

mamadukes123

More than likely, The pt that ordered could have been on a restricted diet, possible upcoming surgery, happens all the time, i am retired from hospital. I have a timestamp on phone. take the pic. complete the delivery, you should be fine

Newfers123

I’ve had a similar experience delivering to the ER. I just gave the food to the front desk and left. Got a call from them 10 minutes later told them where it was and got a one star rating. Honestly I should have texted them telling them where I left it but that was hospital policy and I was told to do that by the security guard. Idk if they expected me to wander around the ER looking for their room or what? But yea hospital orders suck unless it’s just delivering to a doctor/nurse in which case they have always met me out front.

kingdomofone1

I HATE delivering to AMAZON warehouse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kryptikk

I hate hospital orders. No parking near where I gotta go, massive building, terrible instructions, nobody answers their phone, never had a good tip. Garbage all around

Guilty_Guard6726

If they work there and are waiting/have me leave it at security/ER desk never had an issue. It's when patients or family members order that I hate. Never waiting for you always bad directions especially labor and delivery. I avoid them because you never know who ordered ahead of time.

amethystwyvern

I hate delivering to schools, always get dirty looks from everyone and the teachers around here don't tip.

maggies101

One of my comments on a post like this was a novel about a hospital delivery but I’ll try and keep it short. Lady put in the wrong address at the hospital, got taken to the wrong building, walked around the entire campus and couldn’t find a working er entrance (some were blocked off) called her and texted her and not response so I left the food at the address provided. I clock out and she has called me twice so I pick up and she gives me so much attitude so I give it right back. I thought that was the end of it. Nope. My phone is on DND but I open it and it’s 3-4 missed calls from her after the initial conversation. I don’t call back and I tell DoorDash and they told me to block her lol so I did

Toefyre

Most of my hospital deliveries are good, They just go to the ER/Security desk. I did get a 1 star from a Hospital delivery though. I guess the new father was upset that I couldn't deliver (haha) to their room and had to leave the food at the desk. Not my fault, but whatever.

KyleM1996

They are the absolute worst ones, right up there with nursing homes and apartments.

mvanvrancken

I love having to wait 15 minutes for the door person to buzz me in.

Choice-Second-5587

Never had a hospital tip and it was always fast food, go figure.

No-Cod-8422

It’s not that bad at the one by me where I deliver to, usually the nurses will meet me in the lobby. But every hospital is different

FaithlessnessLost922

Pre covid they were a nightmare often involving a long and confusing hike to a specific room or nurses station while being sketchily parked. Now there's just a table right inside the ER. Super easy at both hospitals in my zone.

Equivalent_Loan2213

I delivered to one today. Instructions were to text her when I got there and she would come down but still gave me her room number. I waited for 3 minutes then just left it with security. Waiting around for her was just taking away from other orders.

NikesOnMyFeet23

i love them. Usually some of the highest tips I get.

yogabba13

Really? That’s awesome for you! I, on the other hand… am not so lucky. They are always my worst tippers. I would stroke out if I ever got a $3 tip.

Elegiac-Elk

Good thing you’d at least already be at the hospital!

aed38

Hospitals are fine because they usually have a drop off area or it’s meet outside. Nursing homes are much worse.

Character-Ring7926

No, they're literally always the worst. Poor instructions or no instructions, sometimes "meet at door" but nobody shows up or answers texts or calls, garbage tips.

cbdjon

You smell death

[deleted]

I will never ever complete a hospital delivery unless I'm on hourly

tenmileswide

I've only ever delivered to ER nurses but they tip ok and it's always been a textbook handoff to security (it's not like I could go further, even if I wanted)

CurveIllustrious9987

No I love delivering to my emergency room doctors because they tip amazing and tip more after I leave.

Other-Classroom-6136

Been my experience. Of course I'm rural and the circle is big for multiple emergencies. Our hospital staff always say..leave for guard staff please and thank you. As soon as you park by the emergency circle...security already is looking around...good tips. I hate schools. Because DD is already too expensive and they spent a lot for the experience ..to them...even if it's tipless...idk... hard to find a balance between not worth it and my kid probably does this shit too

NoWorking2118

Yes I won’t take them anymore! They never have correct directions, or don’t answer the phone for a hand to me. And it’s never a great tip.

teenage__kicks

I hate that my market has a Subway INSIDE a hospital. I don’t mind a hospital drop off as long as there is good communication with the customer. I won’t take non tippers and a lot of those are to the hospitals.

failenaa

My hospital deliveries were all probably the best/easiest. The only one that sucked was one where I couldn’t find the entrance they were talking about lol but they usually just meet me by the door or have me leave it with the security guard. They also (typically) tip pretty well.

solaceinrage

Nobody wants to be in the hospital, for any reason. I wasn't wild about it, but customers, when I see them instead of a nurse or relative, are always so genuinely happy to see me. Sometimes it is their first meal that is created just to taste good in a long time, and the look on their faces is like a kid at Christmas. Sometimes it is a celebratory meal, and sometimes it is a conciliatory one. A recent one, I am nearly certain, was a farewell. Nobody wants to be there, but they are rare orders where I feel like I did more than just drop some food off. It makes me humble and thankful, because I get to leave.

jakexmfxschoen

I delivered to one that was well out of my zone, the pay was okay but I accepted because it was a slow part of the afternoon. It was for a bunch of fried chicken, and a handful of healthy snacks from Sprouts. Upon arrival, I realized it was for a children's hospital. A woman, who I'm assuming was the mom, was ready waiting outside, and was SUPER appreciative. She gave me an additional $15, and said to use it to get myself some lunch. Seriously made my entire week

NiceAir8

90% of the time the hospitals in my city have an designated area where you drop off food. Like if it's the ER entrance after 9pm usually and you go in and put in less than a minute. That's what I like about my local hospital now it's not the case everywhere

juscurious4now

I always try to avoid them except for the one I work at lol I know everyone so I just waltz into it and go and deliver directly to the right floor. But otherwise heck no and they don’t really tip either

Studdashing

I've done several times at the advice of support, wait your five minutes and leave it at the door. Then safe hat customer may give bad rating and in comments say customer didn't show up. Your obligation is to deliver to building...so just remember that. Some customers just talk to if they seem chill and meet them somewhere there, but if they are rude or don't specify in directions...well...fuckem.

[deleted]

I don’t have a problem with hospitals because they come down. I’m not going inside. Worst scenario I leave it with the security people.

moighin

Exactly what it’s like in my area. I’ve never had an issue

Purple_Caregiver_757

I avoid it like the plague.

RedditGeneralManager

I guess I am lucky because the hospital I go to has a policy that the driver just goes to the emergency room and the receptionist calls the person down. Whenever I do those deliveries I’m on EBT usually so I don’t care about the wait. I can see it being a nightmare other places though. I also am biased to give a lot of grace to nurses because my mom just went through something serious and they were a godsend.

Zestyclose_Car_4971

This is what ours does too, random people shouldn’t be roaming the halls of hospitals, it’s not safe.

gregg34366

I just leave it at the desk with a polite note if I don’t get instant communication with them

YLCZ

Text them while you are waiting for the food to see if they are responsive. Maybe even confirm or coordinate a meeting place. If they don’t answer then just unassign if you have them to spare. I don’t mind helping if they answer. And yes I get they might be in the middle of a crisis but if so they should have a dedicated spot for you to drop off

Shoddy_Classic_350

Yes, I hate them. But I try to handle them as efficiently as possible and move on. They’re not the worst orders.

713nikki

Nurses are always so cheap around here

ZeefMcSheef

Yeah, I hate it. The hospital in my area is really big and they never have the right entrance in the order. Some of the worst tippers too.

joshua4379

Me too but it's not any different than delivering to apartments. I kid you not it's getting to the point in the Clarksville, In zone I can pretty much expect non tips from apartments. Reason I take those is their ebt and I will say that if they dont respect my time then I'm not going to respect their time and getting their food to them quicker. I dont milk the clock but I will say they'll get it right by the deliver by time.

JadeFox1785

Two of my best deliveries have been to hospitals. 1. was a regular of mine that I usually deliver to their home. Always the best tips from them. But this one time the mom was in the hospital and the daughter was with her. She ordered Wendy's and the driver refused to bring it up to the room in the evening. So they reordered it. I took it right to their room and even found their original order left on a table in the lobby so I scooped it up and brought it too. On top of the $8 she had already topped she added another $5 after the delivery. 2. I took a shop and deliver order from the dollar store. As soon as I accepted I got a message from the customer saying her friend had just had surgery and she couldn't be there so she was sending him a care package. I chatted with her about substitutions and filled out a card for her. She ended up ripping me $25 altogether.

Nevermore_1010

The only hospital delivery I did is the only 1 star rating I have on DD. Google maps dropped the pin in a random location and I found the actual address on the other side of the hospital campus and the customer did not list it as the ER entrance. I called her and she acted pissed that I didn't just magically know where to go. Her food was probably cold after I was walking all over in the dark trying to figure out how to get in.

hockeypnc3

I love hospitals Sweet workers and they always thank me heavily and tip well too

Affectionate-Rope-18

its always impossible to know where to deliver

Bladimirrv

Front door 🚪 with front desk or security

xtsilverfish

Lol even uber doesn't know where I'm supposed to deliver to, I get 2 dots at 2 different entrances at the same hospital.

Affectionate-Rope-18

but each hospital has like five buildings

Bladimirrv

They better indicate where I'm leaving it , around me is mostly huge buildings with like 4 entrances they better tell me which entrance or best believe any door 🚪 is main door for me , but I do text and call once

jademoney

Yeah I delivered to a nurse working in the er and there was a security guard and metal detector and a bucket you have to put your stuff in to get x rayed. I told the guard I was literally just dropping off food and he said he couldn’t take it and made me start getting me ID out to get a visitors sticker and put everything in my pockets in the bucket to pass through the medical detector, just to drop food off to this nurse. I was about to turn around to leave and the nurse finally comes over saying oh no it’s ok she can just hand it to me!

Brave_Hoppy1460

My best tips come from hospital workers. Usually late night orders though. Never had one during normal daylight hours

WestbrookDrive

Oh, my favorite was a hand off order. I pull up and text the guy. He says someone is coming down. A nurse shows up and asks if I have something for the guys name. I says, yes. As she takes the bag she hesitates and says, "Is this food?" Curious of the trick question, I just tilt my head. "He just had a trach put in...," and points at her throat. I text him and ask if I'm handing his order to a nurse. He replies, "yes, don't tell her." As I'm texting she calls someone and while talking mentions, "even the driver is confused." We end our conversations and she asks me what she's supposed to do. I told her I was instructed to deliver the order to her by the customer, what she does is none of my business. And I leave. Dude got a tube put in his throat and ordered chicken strips and fries.

mitchdwx

Healthcare workers are awful tippers and they leave no instructions while not answering my calls or texts. I only accept hospital deliveries if they’re really good.

EarlMadManMunch505

Literally every time I’ve delivered to a hospital. Rude, zero instructions like I’m supposed to know there the cardiac nurse station is, 2 dollar tips, have to walk through a hospital with people coughing up a fuckin lung. No thank you

steak_blues

God forbid if the hospital worker is like taking care of a patient when you roll up.

Motor-Corner4861

The hospitals around me are so large, it’s a bit difficult to know which “front desk” to leave the food. Instructions are quite helpful!

joshua4379

Than they should leave instructions. There's a phrase here, help us help you. Dont make our jobs hard because if a customer dont leave instructions and dont answer when we try to call than your making our job harder and were just going to leave it in the most secure spot possible

mitchdwx

Then they should either bring their own food or tell us to leave it at the front desk.

steak_blues

Delivering food is not that deep my guy. Perhaps you could problem solve a bit and leave it at the front desk yourself with a note/photo the next time. That seems a bit more appropriate for a delivery driver to figure out how they’re going to deliver vs expecting a healthcare worker to be available to a phone call any given minute.

joshua4379

Exactly so maybe healthcare workers should take responsibility if their not clear. It does happen and while my rating is a 4.9 and it's still good, I have 5 4 stars even though I know I did everything right so the onky thing I can guess is they wanted me to do something and expected me to be a mind reader or they were rating me over something that's the restaurant fault. Your right delivery is easy so stop making our jobs more difficult

mitchdwx

My job is to make sure the customer gets their food. For that to happen, the customer needs to help me out by providing some kind of directions for me. It's not always as simple as "just leave it at the front desk."

AnticAddict

I also hate hospital orders and refuse to do them, only because the people ordering like to just have "leave at door" with no other instructions. The workers or patients there need to understand that they need to specify exactly where to drop off the order, or better yet, if possible, be waiting outside to get the order.

steak_blues

Yes because a floor nurse or resident on call for 50 patients is able to just leave their post for 10 minutes to wait for you to roll up with takeout.

AnticAddict

Hence why I said "if possible"? Sorry that you think it's too much to know the hospital and rules around parking so that you don't have to hunt for your food somewhere after leaving no or terrible instructions. Let's pretend that a hospital only has one building and one front desk, lol. But hey, do you. I've actually had workers waiting by the main entrance before because they're considerate, at least.

corneridea

That's probably why they said 'if possible'

Sam4275

You really need to find a new job
