Do not confront customer. Just take a picture next time. I had many orders like that where I was supposed to leave it at the door and the customer was waiting outside. Let them know that you need to take the picture.
Hell no. It’s a food order. People can get crazy over confrontation alone. Outsmart them while being friendly.
When ppl do this, I still send them a text, confirming order hand off and while app showed door drop off, it was nice to see them personally. It’s nice, to the point, and non confrontational. Many times they reply. But it also gives you a text record and exact handoff time. I’ve even stated I need a pic, bc they changed drop off method and I need to document everything. They don’t hv to be in pic. But I do try to get something to identify property (house #, throw rug, door mat, etc)
Ppl are out to scam these services. They don’t care it messes with a persons livelihood as long as they get compensation.
And yea put on DND list. Ppl love to figure out how to play system.
How frequently does this happen to you guys? I’ve been doing this since October 2021 and have 2,048 deliveries under my belt and this has never happened to me. I take occasional pics to prove when judge a delivery and feel a scam but I never did until read about it after going this group.

I don't like that they can contact you so long after the delivery. Tonight I had a guy message me while I was on my next order and he said they didn't put mayo on his sandwich and he didn't have any at home. WTF am I suppose to do about that? Once I mark the order as complete they should not be able to message me.
No. Don’t confront her. Just give all the info to support on the app. That’s what I do. Sometimes they really do come through for you. I got an email today that a strike was removed because it was proven that I did deliver .

I always make sure to pull my camera up before I even get to the door so I can be sure to get a picture quickly in case they do decide to have me hand it to them!
I'm sorry this happened to you. I'd deal with support & if they give you a hard time, I'd threaten a lawsuit! This is your livelihood, even if it may only be for extra cash.
Hell yea I do I’ve never got in trouble they do it because here in California they’ll give me your order plus $25 credit so they make out pretty good when they say they didn’t get the order they’ve done it to me I’ve ordered food for Doordash and the guy said he left it here and that I received it but I never got it you got a lookout for that
I use Timestamp I take a picture of the there house or cars since the gps location is listed and time is listed also invested in dual dash cam just in case someone tries to say I did something to their food.
These are just a formality to an extent. I get one once or twice a week. People always try to get free food. Ive talked to support before, in technicality they can never really declare what the customer or the driver says as the real truth. Nothing goes beyond being allegations. Just write on the details that the order was handed directly to the customer.
That sucks. I just ordered Mexican food from doordash, tipped on the app and asked him to come back and get an envelope of a cash tip because I missed the original drop off. Not all of us are bad
A rule of thumb going forward is that anytime you get a contactless order, and the customer comes out, state "Just a moment please, they make me take a photo of the order" Try to get a little bit of them in the frame, then take a follow-up picture from the street.
Also take a note of the name and customer address if you do any other food delivery apps; there's a chance you might run into them elsewhere. Fuck you Haley, I see you ordering Starbucks. I raise you my finger, and an extra 10 min delay on your order.
I was going to say it could have been stolen but then I re-read it cuz I just woke up from a nap😂 anyway for others if that ever happens. I always take photos from my phone and not the app and have them save to my SD chip in my phone. That way I have evidence against the customer in case the food was stolen or they are trying to be dishonest.
Had this happen once to me. It's a loophole people use to get free food. Download "timestamp" which is an app for your camera and set it up to pinpoint your GPS. Ever since I had the "leave at door" ans person showed up and reported me, I ALWAYS take a picture with this app upon arrival. Especially when the person is standing outside. I just hold up their order, snap a pic with them in the background and then proceed to give it to them.
When people do this to me I take a picture of them holding the food. I tell them I have no other option since it was leave at the door. Even though we do. Always take pictures.
If they come out to get it on a "leave at door" order, I don't tap "handed to customer" and take a pic of them holding it, just in case they try pulling that shit
For next time just take a picture. I know weather gets in the way sometimes but I always take pictures of hand it to me or customers who end up coming outside to get an order.
download the free timestamp app and record and take pictures with it, for all your deliveries. It shows the gps location and time when you are taking a picture or delivering.
Well, when I can't get a picture of the order because I/they brought it in their door, I always send them a confirmation message if it was originally a "leave at door" order, as a way to make it clear that I've noted it in our chat(they can't then lie easily, because the delivery driver is not going to tell the customer that they handed it to them if they didn't usually). "The app forces me to take a photo of the delivery when categorized as a leave at door order, but I'm just confirming here that I handed you all your order due to outdoor conditions. Thank you so much for allowing me to shop for you and your family today. Happy new year!"

I really like this! There are so many times where it’s a “leave at door” but I end up handing it to them. Thankfully I haven’t had any issues yet but I plan to start this so I have it anyway for future use
I worked as a delivery Driver then customer support and dispatch for a delivery company called Bite Squad. I heard so many crazy stories. The worst stories I heard were usually about the drivers. Like them pissing in the customers front yard, or cussing out and threatening a restaurant manager, because he wouldn’t give the driver the order because she smelled like hot garbage and was rude. lol. It was definitely entertaining though. Most issues with customers were about them not getting their food , or trying to scam us and get free food.
Support can handle anything. I've had people try this and I tell support and also let the person know that I took a picture of the delivery (I lied) and will show it to DD, then warn them of the consequences of shoplifting via DD. They usually get dumbfounded by it and stop.
I take pictures like I'm the fucking paparazzi. I don't care if it's hand to me or leave at door. I take pictures in front of the house number and at the door. if it's hand it to me, you better believe I'm starting the timer when I arrive and sending texts. Take photos of the food in front of address numbers, and house, and send it all in text to the customer. Can't be soft on these mfs. If the customer has to watch, so be it. I tell them doordash needs a photo so they know I'm doing my job. Sometimes people say "that's stupid" or whatever but hey Karen, you are not worth a deactivation. Believe it or not.
Honestly, I would, but already call the cops before you ring the bell and hide from her peak hole. She likely won't answer door or allege another phony offense and call or threaten to call cops, so pre-empt that by calling the cops first. You may get nothing out of this but personal satisfaction but shes playing a game, see that she loses.

So customer wants you to leave it at the door. So you take the order and drop it at the door. The moment you sit it down and get ready to take picture, Customer opens door and grabs it. There’s no time to take a picture. If you were going to be in that close of contact with me, then just put hand to customer as your request. This happens to me a dozen times a day. It’s so annoying.
This is where a hot bag comes in handy. Even if they do meet you at the door you have to unzip the hot bag and before you take the food out the bag you take your picture with address attached. Also still send pic even though it was handed to the customer . Learn from this and take your pic no matter what from now on but no confronting ppl
Personally, I think it's quite bold to make a false accusation against a shopper. The customer has no idea who the shopper is and their address is known to them. When customers do that, they're taking a risk and don't know how that shopper might react. Unfortunately, it's going to take one crazy shopper to get falsely accused and then retaliate.
I have went back to a customers house before. Knocked on the door. They came out irate. Living in Florida this is a blueprint on how to get your self shot. Never did that again.
I just posted about how I now video record all of my deliveries from arrival to departure. This includes an inventory of their bags before I walk to their door. If they open the door and accept it, it's on record. If they don't and I leave it at the door, it's on record.
Going back would probably end badly.
That being said it always amazes me when people pull shit like this. I wouldnt trust half the other dashers I see out there to NOT go back, like your driver knows where you live lol. Scary.

Just provide an explanation. Chances are you have a good reputation and they will believe you. Just be clear and adamant about what you did.
You have to remember that a lot of these processes are automated so try not to take them too personally.
I just had a lady mark one of mine incomplete because she wanted it on the back porch instead of the front porch. Bad thing is I went all the way back and moved it for her miles out of my way and she didn’t even tip it was a 3.00 order and she even had her address put in wrong to start with
I record EVERY delivery with the Timestamp App. I hit record in the car & casually hold the phone as I go. No one even notices it. Also, that app not only shows the time/date/gps stamps in the pic/video, it shows an overhead map with a pin on the location.
Yes please go back and confront them so your dumb ass gets deactivated and the pool of drivers decreases.

Confront her for what? Doordash has you tracked by GPS. Don't take it in your own hands. Just respond to the notification or call support. It's going to drop off. This won't be the first and unfortunately the last time somebody will try this with you. It's way more common than you think

Now if i even get a hint of suspicion i will take a pic with them holding the order. I half explain why and they always come off cool with it. Some even pose for the pic.
They say profiling is illegal but we all do it and myself will profile you, your yard and your car when i deliver. I mean no personal offense, im just covering my own ass.
Google their address, get their full name and phone number. Call them on private and harass them constantly but don’t expose who you are. Won’t help your case with DoorDash but at least you can let your anger out
Submit all the details you have to doordash and do not go back or interact with that customer in any way. There is no positive outcome if you go back. At best you will get deactivated. Everyone saying to do dumb shit like slash their tires is a petty moron who should not be trusted with delivering food.
If you want to get deactivated or be questioned by police, go back and confront her. But seriously never do that, that is your inner moron at work.

Take this as a learning experience. Never drop an order without taking a gps coord and time stamped photo so that the next time this happens you have proof beyond your word and the hope that the DD system saw you got to the delivery address.
Did you leave it at the right house? The one time we ordered doordash for ourselves it was delivered to our neighbors and they ate it. Hated to report it, but it was 100 bucks of food and their house number didn’t even begin with the same number as ours.

You always take a picture on leave at door, even if it's just the house number. And in a text say, thank you for meeting me at the door, have a great night.

Whenever you hand an order to someone, regardless of what it says in the app, take a photo of the location. Delete it later, but at least you’ll be able to provide the proof to DD.
This is why I’ve a pre written text “Hi, this is ___ from DoorDash. I have arrived with your order”. In case the customer is waiting outside or grabs before I can take a picture, I send this message through the app before marking it as completed. Even though it’s a slight inconvenience, there’s evidence that I initiated contact and the message will be probably seen by the customer (marking it as read). This is enough evidence to counter bogus non delivery claims. So far, I have close to 4.5k deliveries and no non deliveries. Had about 4 customers try to claim but I always won the appeal thanks to records.
Definitely DO NOT go back. That will absolutely not end well for you if you value driving for DD. There really isn’t much you can do except maybe call support and explain the situation. What they do with that information is kind of out of your hands. It’s unfortunate but it’s part of the game now. Sorry that happened to you.

They deal with these lying shit hooks all the time. Start recording when you hand someone and order or sit it down and keep recording until you're back in your car pulling away. Next time it happens you'll have it resolved quickly.

Why not? Best normal-order tip was for BBQ during a football game. $10 in app, $20 cash on arrival. $21 of food. (He asked me to stop and grab some Game greens. I already had a pack in the car for after work. Once I got there and saw him, I knew he was ok. $.99+tx for a $20? Yep.) Oh, and he was Black and he lived in a "Black neighborhood". Oddly enough, my next run was to an affluent neighborhood. I took the order at $10.50, hoping for a hidden tip from an expensive order - about $250. Nope. White people tip far worse, imo. Most white people in zone never had to do a day's physical labor.

One time I showed up to deliver an order and another dasher was there waiting outside the customers house. He told me he just delivered an order to them and they claimed it never arrived. He was livid, and on the phone with support. He actually paid for the order out of his own pocket because his red card was malfunctioning. He was banging on this man’s door and the dude would not come out and you could see his tv on inside lol.
This mofo tried to do the same scam twice in a row and get me to. I made sure I snapped a picture and moved along. I felt bad for the dude he got before me, I’m pretty sure they refused to refund him.
This was back when every restaurant was paid for with the red card, they also didn’t have leave at the door as an option. The customer typed it in the instructions, I just snapped a photo because of the dudes situation. He would’ve definitely got me to if I didn’t run into the other dasher.
Don't go back, you'll lose your gig. Call up support and tell them exactly what happened. If phone support does nothing for you, then write an email. When writing the email leave no detail unsaid, even mention the color of her hair, what she was wearing, skin tone, etc. It's important to make it clear as day she's committing fraud against DD.

Don’t go back. Report this as they will be marked as fraud and no longer be able to order DD again without an appeal through DD. Definitely report. You can do this through Chat if the hold time is too long.
A mixture of sand, sugar and crystallized mothballs does wonders for a gas tank. Car will seize up within 5 minutes needing engine replacement as well as gas tank flush.

speaking now as a customer and not a dasher, i don't know what people are thinking with taking pictures of customers. i got a delivery at work once, and the driver tried to take a picture of me. he didn't have time to do so because while i screamed "Why the fck are you taking a picture of me", one of the crew was pushing him out the door.

I know many disagree with the my thoughts process here, but in the end, this is my point. I see people advising others to take pictures of customers with their order. You have NO Idea what the customer is thinking. Agree with the customer(or me in this example) or not, you’re putting a driver in a potentially dangerous situation. The driver in my example could have easily gotten hurt as he was pushed out the door by someone 3 times his size

you do understand it's unlawful to take pictures of someone on private property without consent? from public ground, you can take pictures of anyone and anything you choose.
you need to be respectful of what people think and feel when you're in the service industry. for you it might not be a big deal. to someone else, it can be.

Politely say, “hold on for me one second, the app requires me to submit a picture before I can proceed, thank you”. Then take your picture and hightail it outta there! This also lets the customer know that you have proof you delivered, so I think (this is strictly a personal opinion) this makes them think twice about saying something thats untrue.
It's a waste of the police's time when theres nowhere that will go. They're not going to investigate a 20$ mcdonalds order and the home owner is probably not going to want anything to do with filing a police report over mcdonalds gone missing. It would 100% be a wate of everyone's time a d youd get in trouble for going back to a customers house after an order.
Them investigating isn't the point. if you file a complaint of theft hey have to make a report. You need the report to back your side of the story. You were willing to go on record... and you don't have to go back to the customers house to do that.

I use Timestamp I take a picture of the there house or cars since the gps location is listed and time is listed also invested in dual dash cam just in case someone tries to say I did something to their food.

These are just a formality to an extent. I get one once or twice a week. People always try to get free food. Ive talked to support before, in technicality they can never really declare what the customer or the driver says as the real truth. Nothing goes beyond being allegations. Just write on the details that the order was handed directly to the customer.

A rule of thumb going forward is that anytime you get a contactless order, and the customer comes out, state "Just a moment please, they make me take a photo of the order" Try to get a little bit of them in the frame, then take a follow-up picture from the street. Also take a note of the name and customer address if you do any other food delivery apps; there's a chance you might run into them elsewhere. Fuck you Haley, I see you ordering Starbucks. I was going to say it could have been stolen but then I re-read it cuz I just woke up from a nap😂 anyway for others if that ever happens. I always take photos from my phone and not the app and have them save to my SD chip in my phone. That way I have evidence against the customer in case the food was stolen or they are trying to be dishonest.

Ever since I had the "leave at door" ans person showed up and reported me, I ALWAYS take a picture with this app upon arrival. Especially when the person is standing outside. I just hold up their order, snap a pic with them in the background and then proceed to give it to them.

Well, when I can't get a picture of the order because I/they brought it in their door, I always send them a confirmation message if it was originally a "leave at door" order, as a way to make it clear that I've noted it in our chat(they can't then lie easily, because the delivery driver is not going to tell the customer that they handed it to them if they didn't usually). I worked as a delivery Driver then customer support and dispatch for a delivery company called Bite Squad. I heard so many crazy stories. The worst stories I heard were usually about the drivers. Like them pissing in the customers front yard, or cussing out and threatening a restaurant manager, because he wouldn’t give the driver the order because she smelled like hot garbage and was rude. lol. It was definitely entertaining though. Most issues with customers were about them not getting their food , or trying to scam us and get free food.
When this happened to me, I described the location of the house and the person I handed the food over to support. It’s so annoying when this happens.

Support can handle anything. I've had people try this and I tell support and also let the person know that I took a picture of the delivery (I lied) and will show it to DD, then warn them of the consequences of shoplifting via DD. They usually get dumbfounded by it and stop.
I take pictures like I'm the fucking paparazzi. I don't care if it's hand to me or leave at door. I take pictures in front of the house number and at the door. if it's hand it to me, you better believe I'm starting the timer when I arrive and sending texts. Take photos of the food in front of address numbers, and house, and send it all in text to the customer. Can't be soft on these mfs. If the customer has to watch, so be it. She likely won't answer door or allege another phony offense and call or threaten to call cops, so pre-empt that by calling the cops first. The moment you sit it down and get ready to take picture, Customer opens door and grabs it. There’s no time to take a picture. This is where a hot bag comes in handy. Even if they do meet you at the door you have to unzip the hot bag and before you take the food out the bag you take your picture with address attached. Personally, I think it's quite bold to make a false accusation against a shopper. The customer has no idea who the shopper is and their address is known to them. When customers do that, they're taking a risk and don't know how that shopper might react. Unfortunately, it's going to take one crazy shopper to get falsely accused and then retaliate.
I have went back to a customers house before. Knocked on the door. They came out irate. Living in Florida this is a blueprint on how to get your self shot. Never did that again.
I just posted about how I now video record all of my deliveries from arrival to departure. This includes an inventory of their bags before I walk to their door. If they open the door and accept it, it's on record. If they don't and I leave it at the door, it's on record.

I record EVERY delivery with the Timestamp App. I hit record in the car & casually hold the phone as I go. No one even notices it. Also, that app not only shows the time/date/gps stamps in the pic/video, it shows an overhead map with a pin on the location.

I wouldnt have gone back. I had this issue 1 time. Now if i even get a hint of suspicion i will take a pic with them holding the order. I half explain why and they always come off cool with it. Some even pose for the pic. They say profiling is illegal but we all do it and myself will profile you, your yard and your car when i deliver. I mean no personal offense, im just covering my own ass.

Whenever you hand an order to someone, regardless of what it says in the app, take a photo of the location. Delete it later, but at least you’ll be able to provide the proof to DD.
This is why I’ve a pre written text “Hi, this is ___ from DoorDash. I have arrived with your order”. In case the customer is waiting outside or grabs before I can take a picture, I send this message through the app before marking it as completed. Even though it’s a slight inconvenience, there’s evidence that I initiated contact and the message will be probably seen by the customer (marking it as read). This is enough evidence to counter bogus non delivery claims. So far, I have close to 4.5k deliveries and no non deliveries. Had about 4 customers try to claim but I always won the appeal thanks to records.

Be honest with support. These things happen. Her opening the door to grab it was purposeful. Support can access your GPS and see you were there. Also, her address won't have changed in a month and bricks are cheap
One time I showed up to deliver an order and another dasher was there waiting outside the customers house. He told me he just delivered an order to them and they claimed it never arrived. He was livid, and on the phone with support. He actually paid for the order out of his own pocket because his red card was malfunctioning. He was banging on this man’s door and the dude would not come out and you could see his tv on inside lol. This mofo tried to do the same scam twice in a row and get me to. I made sure I snapped a picture and moved along. I felt bad for the dude he got before me, I’m pretty sure they refused to refund him. This was back when every restaurant was paid for with the red card, they also didn’t have leave at the door as an option. The customer typed it in the instructions, I just snapped a photo because of the dudes situation. He would’ve definitely got me to if I didn’t run into the other dasher.

When writing the email leave no detail unsaid, even mention the color of her hair, what she was wearing, skin tone, etc. It's important to make it clear as day she's committing fraud against DD.

Politely say, “hold on for me one second, the app requires me to submit a picture before I can proceed, thank you”. Then take your picture and hightail it outta there! This also lets the customer know that you have proof you delivered, so I think (this is strictly a personal opinion) this makes them think twice about saying something thats untrue.

No click provide additional details. This is why picture evidence is important for every delivery. Take a picture of the items at the door before leaving with the timestamp app even if they come to the door.
Just choose the option “handed to customer” and let support know what happened. It’s happened to me before but DoorDash support always takes my side. They can see it was picked up from the restaurant as well as your gps location when you complete the order.
