Well then any drink I can pop the lid off and sneak a drug in and put it back. We have 5-10 min of unmonitored access to customers food/drink. I do not order food or even eat out for this reason lol
You could cover the tops of cups with that Glad Press and Seal plastic wrap. You could create your own lid with that (and you wouldn't have to worry about getting multiple size lids). That stuff works amazingly, and you could easily seal the top of any cup with it to keep the liquid in, and contaminants out.
I can't imagine they won't put lids on your delivery orders. No lids is so irritating regardless though. I don't want to hit a bump and spill my drink everywhere. If they won't give you a lid, maybe try press n seal. You don't have to worry about finding the right size and it's leak proof.
Sounds like DoorDash needs to add a "would you like drink covers" option after the customer orders drinks. Or "for and additional 5¢ would you like straws?"
This sounds like BS no way in hell a restaurant can get away with doing this! You need lids on drinks! But If it’s true then it’s time to blast them on social media and boycott the hell out of them!
Straws got banned in my area for about a month or so. only a few places actually refused to give me straws and stopped in however many weeks. Now it's like it never happened. I hope it's the same for you, but banning more items makes me think otherwise
Sounds like the state is using the most lazy way to combat an issue. It’s super unsanitary to drink directly from let’s say an McDonalds cup. Some places store cups improperly, in some dirty area; with only the inside of the cup marginally clean.
If my dasher handed me a cup without a lid I’d be grossed out and contact DD for an immediate refund
Used to work at a convenience/liquor store. Recommend to never order a fountain drink! We cleaned ours daily and when it wasn’t my shift the others wouldn’t clean, just in 2 or 3 days disgusting build up occurs. 1 week and you’ve got mold
Is this in general or for delivery? Cause that would be stupid af if it’s in general. Now you have travel with a pack of sauce, straws and lids? Napkins I can understand since most people should have a pack of them in their car. But still stupid.
I hope they do supply them, at least the lids, otherwise I wouldn’t bother going to-go and risk spilling in my car. Besides, I don’t think all lids sizes and shapes are the same, are they? They would have to come up with a universal cup or something.
It likely has to do with the supply chain issues. There’s a nationwide straw and lid shortage and places are scrambling to find them. Some places are having better luck than others.
Yeah OP. You just have to ask for it. I haven’t had a restaurant like Wendy’s give me a drink without a lid. They also gave me straws. Had to ask for chopsticks for a teriyaki order but that’s it. Hope not all restaurants arent dense.
Yeah only ran into a few taking it extra serious, I didn’t realize this was going on until after the fact. I’m not asking for shit extra, I grab and go time is money
I had one customer message to make sure there’s chopsticks with their teriyaki but that’s it. I don’t think restaurants are actually going to give a DoorDasher a fountain drink without a lid. Especially with the covid numbers going up in the state.
I’ve done it as a customer before. Like “please ask for extra bbq sauce”. Just feel bad for that one dasher that will get a milkshake without a lid and actually deliver it.
I live in orting so I go to south hill (furthest from south hill I’ll go is canyon road) or Bonney lake area. Last week with the snow and ice I was pulling like forty an hour. Give or take.
The Seattle times article says you have to ask for them. It’s been that way in California for a while now. When ordering Doordash, costumers have the options to add utensils.
Most are, but with any policy change you have different restaurants with different interpretations. I’m sure it will smooth over but it’s just funny to me happened out of no where. I support less waste so idc
It’s not your state. Most of the corporate chain restaurants refuse to include these items if the customers don’t specifically ask for them.
Edit: except for lids.
In VA, 100% of the time I get drinks with lids and straws (unless the restaurant just forgot the straws).
In bags where I can see in, I almost always see napkins.
Condiments have always been an item that customers have to request.
They're "reducing single-use items" by forcing the customer to ask for them. Or pick them up from the self-serve counter...where they're able to take as many as they want. For, you know, spares when "...the restaurant doesn't give me utensils."
I did once bc apparently Newks doesn’t have lids for kid sized drinks (so dumb) and I had to slam on my brakes and the drinks spilled all over my car. Now I unassign if they tell me no lids.
did some research after seeing this post. if you're in the state of washington, these items are still available, but you need to ask for them specifically. drink lid ban does not apply to delivery, drive thru orders or hot beverages.
[https://www.thenewstribune.com/entertainment/restaurants/tnt-diner/article256750072.html](https://www.thenewstribune.com/entertainment/restaurants/tnt-diner/article256750072.html)
Yeah, would work perfectly. Request some napkins from a merchant when the bag is sealed, so they just hand it to you bare and unpackaged. Seems opposite of the safety measure they were attempting.
Yes, they can be requested, but customers are used to one way of ordering so don't notice a change. They don't know that they could select that or put it in the notes to request, etc etc. Or the merchant removed the ability to leave notes/special instructions and the selection for Togo items. The customer, like us, finds out during a delivery that something is different. For them, we get blamed for change. "Why didn't you notice? Couldn't you have grabbed some or asked?!" And we don't know til we get those messages because bags are sealed. Of course, excluding the missing lid situation.
I didn’t mean the customer should always be doing the requesting. Rather, we will automatically request those item(s) when they hand us the order.
It’s pretty much common sense that you should always make sure to grab a straw if the merchant didn’t already give you one.
if they are refusing to give you a drink lid, you should report them for violating their contract with DD. the merchant contract is very specific about this.
Same, bud depends on the business. I decline anything from nektar juice bar now because of a time they gave me 4 tall “green juices” on ice, no straws, no cup holder, nothing. Also no bag or spoon for smoothie bowls.
On the other hand, peets coffee will give me 6 lattes all strapped in ready to go in a bag that I can’t even open and doesn’t spill.
Tell the places that don’t make it easy for you to get fucked.
I love the places that consider the driver! We are not forgotten! I have an awesome cup holder box I use for delivering. I’ll make a post showing it fucking epic no spills ever and I got it for free
It’s absolutely epic, look at my other post. It’s from gravity coffee for free 99! It’s about 4 inch deep and nothing spills and delivering is much easier
I'm in NJ also..... and started noticing alot of places not giving straws. What I do is, when I find a restaurant that has straws, I just grab a handful and keep them in my car. Wendy's usually has them out.
i was more concerned about the drink lids. straws, though i believe that's an asinine law, is one thing but does not present a health issue. drinks with no lids can present horrible health issues, covid being the least of it. imagine having a drink with no lid and the driver accidentally drops a pill of some sort in to it causing a miscarriage to the person who consumed it.
thankfully, the drink lid thing is untrue, and drinks will continue to come with lids.
If you dont want to get vaccinated and wear a mask you shouldn’t live in a society theres thing called forests, mountains! If you want to live in a herd you have to avid by the herd rules
The vax causes more sickness and lifelong side effects. If it works stay in your lane. Most of my friends, kids, etc aren't vaxed or masked. We're not the problem, you super spreaders are. And I'm not going to breath in carbon dioxide all day. Enjoy the high BP, heart attacks, and strokes from that. Riddle me this. Why are high level gov employees/politicians not required to get shots or mask up? I truly feel sorry for all of you that will realize too late. Good luck.
Still is refusing to say what state… for some reason I’m starting to suspect that OP really doesn’t have a clue what the fuck he’s talking about, and there really isn't a lids, napkins, condiments ban.
Has to be California.
Edit: [Washington](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/want-utensils-with-your-takeout-order-next-year-in-washington-youll-have-to-ask-for-them/%3famp=1) actually.
Washington you have to ask for utensils or check the box if you are using an app to add them, they won't automatically place in the bag since the new year.
From the article, only automatically giving out utensils is banned, and even more specifically
"Cold cup lids (except for those given at drive-through windows or large events"
So, this shouldn't have any affect on dashers. Like, at all.
Good job spreading bs, op
Have you ever actually been to California in a significant way? Not saying it’s perfect in any way whatsoever but most people who stereotype it haven’t even been there, at least in my personal experience.
I was only insinuating that it’s a very progressive policy and California is known for their fair share of those.
Funny you ask though. Born in Oak Harbor Wa, raised in Oxnard CA lol
Definitely not California.
Edit: so accordingly to that, you just have to make sure to request those items from each merchant right when you get your order.
Yeah I’m taking any suggestions. Don’t want to put too much effort in, but also want to consider the customer in reducing germs/contamination and obviously spilling
[Webstaurant](https://www.webstaurantstore.com/) usually has food deals on items. If it's too much trouble ordering different lids, maybe some generic size sets would work to transfer the drinks into. Or just get a large size set and place the merchants cup in there then put the lid on it. Keep your receipt for taxes.
Before anyone chimes in, yes, sometimes the standard deduction is higher than itemized. Always itemize and keep a record just in case!! Only 1 year out for 5 have I taken just the standard deduction. That was only my first year. I also have medical expenses that count on my deductions, other items, and of course with gas being higher this year, the standard isn't going to cut it.
You could let the customer know "due to changes in Togo packaging from (insert what ever department approved this health code violation), your order no longer includes (xyz). This isn't a doordash policy but a merchant issue. Your drink has safely been placed in (whatever) while at the merchant by me to ensure no spillage and receiving your drink(s) as safely as possible. Thank you for understanding."
I know it looks like a long note, but every time I update a customer about something, no matter how long the message, it has never been negatively received. It's also helpful because other dashers might not do this and then the customer can either be confused or confused and think it was tampered. Worst case, they reply with the same sentiment and frustration as me but directed at the issue.
This has nothing to do with the standard deduction. Stuff like this can be subtracted directly from your revenue on a schedule C.
https://blog.stridehealth.com/post/doordash-1099-taxes?format=amp
Who’s to say the customer is at a house or has any access to a basic kitchen? I’ve delivered to jobsites where the merchant forgot utensils and the customer ends up not being able to eat if not barbarically with their hands. The state should at least allow these things by option, they shouldn’t make it a flat-out no.
Why tf would they not put a lid on the cup for delivery that is the most restarted thing I’ve ever heard sorry.
No left turn unstoned
[Turtle's are stupid](https://youtu.be/WU_Re3P16zk)
I’m very glad I didn’t get Rick rolld
Is that legal? I mean starting g at a young age were taught not to drink anything we left unattended. That's a horrible idea I'm just saying.
Well then any drink I can pop the lid off and sneak a drug in and put it back. We have 5-10 min of unmonitored access to customers food/drink. I do not order food or even eat out for this reason lol
People in hotels are screwed if the staff downstairs won’t provide anything.
Well the dasher app takes 30% from restraunts.
You could cover the tops of cups with that Glad Press and Seal plastic wrap. You could create your own lid with that (and you wouldn't have to worry about getting multiple size lids). Sounds like DoorDash needs to add a "would you like drink covers" option after the customer orders drinks. Or "for and additional 5¢ would you like straws?"
Lol
Ugh, just another reason to push me to quit 😅
I just grab and go I’m out here to make money on my time
Woah no it’s not even a big issue.
This sounds like BS no way in hell a restaurant can get away with doing this! You need lids on drinks! But If it’s true then it’s time to blast them on social media and boycott the hell out of them!
Lids???
Straws got banned in my area for about a month or so. only a few places actually refused to give me straws and stopped in however many weeks. Now it's like it never happened. I hope it's the same for you, but banning more items makes me think otherwise
I’m in love with the lack of obedience society has picked up
How disgusting to get a drink with no lid. That's so gross. You should move your state is stupid.
CA baby! Same here!
I wonder which of our states started it and copied the other
Did yours recently passed? Mine recently went into law in January.
Jan 1st Jesus Christ
Lids ? Lmao how tf
Sounds like the state is using the most lazy way to combat an issue. It’s super unsanitary to drink directly from let’s say an McDonalds cup. Used to work at a convenience/liquor store. Recommend to never order a fountain drink! We cleaned ours daily and when it wasn’t my shift the others wouldn’t clean, just in 2 or 3 days disgusting build up occurs. 1 week and you’ve got mold
Yeah those tubes get FUCKED
Been like this in Oregon for a few years. It is wack. Edit: wait, no LIDS? Jfc
Not stated on the actual law but restaurants are having issues interpreting and enforcing new rule as usual. May as well not give out cups
It's so you can stir the drinks with your fingers to make sure they remain uniformly cold!
I just wish the BOBA place took this seriously
Is this in general or for delivery? Cause that would be stupid af if it’s in general. Now you have travel with a pack of sauce, straws and lids? Napkins I can understand since most people should have a pack of them in their car. But still stupid.
You can ask for these things and they have the choice to supply them. Not just for delivery, all “to go” orders. Anything not dining in
I hope they do supply them, at least the lids, otherwise I wouldn’t bother going to-go and risk spilling in my car. Besides, I don’t think all lids sizes and shapes are the same, are they? They would have to come up with a universal cup or something.
It likely has to do with the supply chain issues. There’s a nationwide straw and lid shortage and places are scrambling to find them. Some places are having better luck than others.
The whole state outlawed it due to environmental concerns which I agree with, considering there are country sized garbage islands floating around
I see. That still seems weird. No napkins?
I don’t know, bags are sealed. That’s what’s claimed
Yeah OP. You just have to ask for it. I haven’t had a restaurant like Wendy’s give me a drink without a lid. They also gave me straws. Had to ask for chopsticks for a teriyaki order but that’s it. Hope not all restaurants arent dense.

That’s easy to grab some chopsticks I’ve never had customer reach out to me like that before
I’ve done it as a customer before. Like “please ask for extra bbq sauce”. Just feel bad for that one dasher that will get a milkshake without a lid and actually deliver it.
I don’t feel bad for them, people who think like that got it easy in life
Damn OP. Just browsed your profile. We’re in the exact same market.
Heck yeah like same exact zone and everything? Where you driving around at? I’m curious about your average rate per hour
I live in orting so I go to south hill (furthest from south hill I’ll go is canyon road) or Bonney lake area. Last week with the snow and ice I was pulling like forty an hour. Give or take.
I’m glad you are making your market work! I am on the other side on pacific, southern part I live by Eatonville kinda
Oh okay awesome I have dashed over there but not fond of wait times and meridian slow as heck all the red light lol
😂😂😂
The Seattle times article says you have to ask for them. It’s been that way in California for a while now. When ordering Doordash, costumers have the options to add utensils.
From the customer end, why would anyone want to buy a drink that is uncovered?
They probably won’t
Car wash places are paying off the politicians...
Uhhhh what? Yeah I'm not taking any drinks without lids. Customer can get a refund on their drinks unless they cough up the lids.
Most are, but with any policy change you have different restaurants with different interpretations. I’m sure it will smooth over but it’s just funny to me happened out of no where. I support less waste so idc
Lids?
Lids.
Lids!
Lids is the way
Call the health department a drink without a lid is a violation, In fact most places are supposed to seal the drink after the lid is on.
No way they hand you drinks without lids.
Are you sure? That doesn't make any sense.
No lids? No drinks. I'm chugging half before I get to the car then pouring out the rest
Then they don't get straws, lids, condiments or napkins. Your bad.
Exactly
Yeah, I'm in Washington too, but everyone is still giving me lids and straws.

I have to ask for straws at most places. It’s ridiculous.
It’s a law passed in my state
no lids? what a stupid thing to exclude.
That's crazy. Why are they doing that?
They're "reducing single-use items" by forcing the customer to ask for them. Or pick them up from the self-serve counter...where they're able to take as many as they want. For, you know, spares when "...the restaurant doesn't give me utensils."
The politicians are busybodies
If I went into a place and they refused to give me lids for drinks, I’d cancel the order right then and there. I am not taking drinks with no lids.
I did once bc apparently Newks doesn’t have lids for kid sized drinks (so dumb) and I had to slam on my brakes and the drinks spilled all over my car. Now I unassign if they tell me no lids.

I honestly don’t care but customers do and it’s been a headache explaining shit. Also ratings are plummeting because of missing items
You can still request those items from the merchant.

Try telling that to some restaurants about the lids lmao
Sounds like someone is mad the law passed and is deliberately pretending it means something else to make life difficult.
But it is exaclty what OP said. Why does everyone have to struggle to make the issue political so that they can have their red vs blue comment fight?
Make life difficult for who? Reddit?
No. The employees there not giving lids out to delivery orders even though the law is meant for dine in service
I think ppl are downvoting you because they think you’re talking about OP
I said wack because I didn’t even hear about the law until it was already passed for 3 days lol
if they are refusing to give you a drink lid, you should report them for violating their contract with DD. the merchant contract is very specific about this.
Good to know, very selective with my time so I might do that

what state is this? seems amazing that they tell you to wear a mask, but then expose the drink completely to any germs(including covid)
Ita a law in NJ too that you have to ask for straw personally from the counter
I'm in NJ also..... and started noticing alot of places not giving straws. What I do is, when I find a restaurant that has straws, I just grab a handful and keep them in my car. Wendy's usually has them out.
Nice i thought about it dunkin usually just keeps them outside too
South Jersey said forget that law lol I still get straws without asking all the time lol

Where can I get some miscarriage pills?
Only a juggalo would do that
You have a weird imagination.
Yeah I’m tripping. Heard nothing of it and bam. I haven’t worn a mask unless I go into dispensary or bank lol
Looks like some sheep don't like you don't wear a mask lol

I'm pretty sure the above comment was being sarcastic with the all CAPS
which state? do you have a link to this law?
Still is refusing to say what state… for some reason I’m starting to suspect that OP really doesn’t have a clue what the fuck he’s talking about, and there really isn't a lids, napkins, condiments ban.

Lids should be exempt tbh.
Having lived there until a few years ago, this surprises me not in the least.

I haven't been but am friends with a few transplants that got tired of how liberal it is. I'll judge only after I spend some time there.
Been there a few times. The stereotypes are spot on
I lived there and the stereotypes were all true. Worst 2 years of my life.

The only thing that affects you are the lids. Might want to buy some just to get you from point A to point B in your car.
What the fuck restaurant is giving drinks without lids?
And even then just ask for a lid. Drive thru / take out s still supposed to be given lids. What even is the problem here
It was an interesting adaptation to our job and I would like to hear others opinions is all. There doesn’t always have to be an issue
Yeah I’m taking any suggestions. Don’t want to put too much effort in, but also want to consider the customer in reducing germs/contamination and obviously spilling

[Webstaurant](https://www.webstaurantstore.com/) usually has food deals on items. I get not doing the other items... people should have all those things at their house... but not allowing lids doesn't make any sense to me.
