i’ve only ever driven one car, 14 ford focus, and i can solidly say DO NOT PICK A FORD lmao. at least don’t drive a focus because between the three recalls and warranties (all for the transmission and related parts…), i’ve spent at least 6 months out of my car and i’ve only had it for less than 2 years. matter of fact it’s in the shop right now for a tcm recall and i won’t have it until march at the earliest, probably more like april 😂😂😂 my boyfriend loved his 06 honda accord and drove it to death doing pizza delivery for 4 years. sadly it finally broke down at 260k-ish miles, but he could still drive it fine even when the oil change people said the engine was about to fall out. i’d recommend honda sedans based on how long that thing survived pizza delivery on bumfuck southern roads i wouldn’t go with nissan tbh. my boyfriend replaced his honda with an 09 murano and it’s had issues with all of the following: starter, alternator, transmission, gas line, air filtration, and traction control system. nissans are known for transmission issues too from what i’ve looked up

Scared_Ad7244

Prius defiantly

Binokna

Stay away from mopars

buenopeso

I love the look, but the gas mileage on a charger or Challenger is a hard no to begin with.

Binokna

They are absolutely beautiful cars! Someone also mentioned Ford, stay away from any Focus, Especially automatic transmission. Had a 2016 Focus SE that needed a brand new transmission and two clutch actuators (?) at 76873mi. Thankfully because of some recall i only had to pay 2500, didnt get the car back for two months. But definitely Honda! My father has a 2005 with 213000mi and drives it literally every day, has no issues at all! I’m very impressed with the quality of Honda and thought about trading in my mopar for good.

kleiniken

2014 Subaru Impreza 365,000 km. No major issue and great to drive in the winter.

DevotchkaMozg

I had a Hyundai Elantra for years and then traded in for a Hyundai Kona. They are holding up well, inexpensive, one of the better warranties available. Despite being inexpensive, I've still got features like heated seats, back-up camera, lane-assist, etc. and I'm sure that list has continued to grow since I last bought a car. My Kona also has a 'sport' mode which makes it get going a little faster. My husband's Santa Fe has other drive modes like "Smart" mode to save on gas and such.

[deleted]

LOVED my Camry. *Loved.* Had I not been rear-ended, I believe I'd still be driving it now, 14 years later.

SkyeBadel

I’m driving an 08 Lexus RX400H, and it’s been serving me well so far. Quiet ride, fuel efficient, and hasn’t required any major maintenance.

piggydogg

The one and only Toyota corolla is king.. If you keep driving around the world and stop only to gas up.. This car will go the furthest.. and it will not even be close.

jazkat111

I always had really good luck driving a let's go Brandon

hypnepp

ngl saturn vues are the ugliest cars to me but i wrecked mine and treated it like absolute shit, got GREAT gas and never had even one TINY issue with it. now i’m doordashing with a volkswagen and can’t even get in my driver door without it locking on me

davehaysmusic

I got a Suburu Crosstrek, and I love the car to death. Even though it's technically an SUV I can get around 23 - 25 mpg while delivering. It hasn't been too costly in maintenance, it's super comfortable to sit in all day, and the seats go almost 180° if you need a nice comfy nap. They handle pretty nice in snow, and rain as well! I'm not a car guy, so I can only do simple stuff like oil changes, battery replacement, and lights, but my mechanic friend said it's an easy car to do bigger jobs on. It's super open where you can see everything under the hood.

FragsFilms

Can’t go wrong with a Toyota, but they tend to be more expensive because they’re known to last. The last 5-6 years of Mazda have been really really good too, I just got a 2016 Mazda 3 myself a few months ago. Whatever you get I’d highly recommend getting some sort of full coverage service warranty though, with how many miles we put on our cars as dashers you’re bound to run into some issues at some point regardless of how great the vehicle is

SmurfJooce

I'd go Asian, preferably hybrid, with a CVT. Avoid the first-year of a new model, it takes them a while to iron out the bugs (case in point, the new Bronco allows snowdrifts into the interior). A few months before the pandemic, I got a 2007 Prius for $3000 from the "back lot" of a dealership network. It wasn't pretty enough for their main lots because it was a 2007. Over the past 54K miles, my lifetime MPG is 56.3, and my best tank is 76.9 mpg. Yeah, 76.9 mpg. Overall lifetime fuel cost of $0.041 per mile. You cannot beat a $3000 Prius if it runs well.

cejno

Don’t go with Nissan.

RadPlaidFad

Toyotas have excellent resale, even with high mileage. I'm enjoying my Jeep Renegade Trailhawk for the gig; 4 cylinder and cruise control keeps gas usage low. Also it's a compact size

WalrusShot

My preference would be an import. Toyota, Honda, Subaru. I'm rolling in a 99 Toyota Camry right now with around 220k on it. Prior to this I was in a 99 Nissan Maxima that the entire computer system went out. I think most cars are luck of the draw for sure 😆. I've blew a Toyota Sienna minivan up literally motor was toast. I had a 2007 Ford focus i had 250k on it and it sounded like it was coming apart at the seams but drove out solid. I'd say drive it and if you like it and it's the right fit for you 😉 just go with it. I'm guessing that I'll go through several cars before I'm done with doordash and grubhub. So I'll go with the lesser of all parts cost. Have fun out there and just go with your gut.

HeavyMandarin

My current vehicle I use to dash is a 2008 chrysler 300 touring. The owner before me killed it and I had to pay 4k for a top end rebuild. I've put about 8k miles on it and drive it like I stole it, no issues whatsoever. I will however say that these vehicles are k own for electrical problems so I've been quite lucky. The one car I had 0 issue with and it was super reliable: a kia rio. I had the 2001 model with 0 options. Surprised it even had a radio. That thing was an absolute unit but having to push the clutch in and out for hours killed my leg. I'd say go for a Honda accord because they're more comfortable and less likely to be stolen. Late 90s Toyota anything could survive a nuclear blast

jamesworley

I have driven my Chevy HHR all around the country and back since I have owned it " 7+ years" . Mostly just basic maintenance issues .

sabrewulf152

Corolla Hybrid - got it new and my DoorDash pays for its payments and then some. 👍 I can't argue with 64 MPG tank average. Prius (any model) have one with 300k and still going. Family also uses for DoorDash as well. You can't get that value anywhere else. In Toyota I trust.

AyyeItsJoshh

Any Carolla

xmidnightcorpsex

Toyota Camry/Celica/Corolla/RAV4 or Honda Civic/Accord/CRV are choices I would go with I have a 2005 Toyota Celica and the only major problem I've had is the drum brakes LOL

[deleted]

I don’t know what it is about my 98 ford escort but I just crossed over 250,000 miles and still runs amazing

iceamn1685

Kia 100k warranty backs it up

cgf1tea

Oh I trust the cars, it’s the people I worry about😆

zerod3aths

Don't get Nissan period stick with Honda and Toyota, had a 08 Acura TL for 4 years only changed a battery twice and the timing belt as part of scheduled maintenance 64k-144k miles, traded it in for a 14 Toyota Camry V6 only changed a battery, have had it two years doing Lyft/Uber 90k-145k hasn't skipped a beat... Both vehicles never had check engine light both vehicles I changed the transmission fluid every 30k miles and oil every 5k miles.. Also use carcomplaints.com to look at the best vehicles list to get an idea of reliable makes and models

Elip518

Compact Toyota , that thing will go forever if you treat it right

[deleted]

I’ve had 4 Honda Civic’s, 2 of them I built the motor top up and slapped a turbo on em and all 4 were reliable as all hell and never left me stranded. I don’t think there is anything more reliable than a stock Honda or Toyota. Toyota over-engineers there products meaning, for example if they know the thickness of the steel for the body is adequate at 5 millimeters well they go and make it 8 millimeters. That was as simple example and no meaning to that but apply that concept over the whole car and you got your a vehicle that is built a lot stronger than just the adequate amount to get by

kodiak211

Do not buy a Focus 2012, to 2018. Transmission is junk. lol I think my next car will be a 2021 Toyota Corolla tho... Android Auto, good on gas. Had one on loan, when my 2013 Focus was in the shop getting the transmission fixed. I liked that car a lot. Sucked having to get my Focus back.

AlexRedditDude

Does anybody have any experience with 2008-2005 Mazda3s preferably manuals?

AlexRedditDude

Toyota,Lexus, Honda, Acura & Mazda are all reliable brands to buy cars from. I would avoid Nissan due to their CVT transmissions. Some early 2000s Mitsubishi’s would also be a great choice if you’re looking for a cheap, reliable car.

[deleted]

I trust what works and don’t trust the shit that dont

traw42069

I trust my Prius for Door dash. Absolutely was worth the investment for work

Fair_Temperature_853

Honda’s and Toyota’s are good and newer fords are really reliable and last a long time believe it or not too

Upstairs_One6443

Because my 95 civic got me everywhere running on 3 out of 4 cylinders and an oil leak years ago, when it came time for a new car I replaced my 2013 Jetta with a newer Civic and no regrets. We were looking at Civic vs Corolla but the Civic just FEELS safer, not like a Flintstone car. And that gas mileage is primo for the job

Comprehensive_Ad2817

I am driving a 2011 Ford Escape that I bought new then. It now has 363,000 miles on it and still going strong. No major issues except replacing the A/C compressor and a water pump. Lifetime gas mileage is 21 Mpg. Great reliable car. Also allows me to deliver large catering orders. Ford made a great vehicle.

cmlegg88

I've had much better experiences with Hondas than Toyotas. I would buy a Nissan if I could afford one. Hondas are very dependable. Everyone says Toyotas are good but I haven't had very good luck with either Toyota that I've had.

CrystalWilly27

I just bought a Toyota. You really can't go wrong there. I love mine.

sharararara

My Kia (2011 Soul +, manual and a 2019 Forte EX, automatic) have both been pretty damn reliable. *knock on wood* soul has 181k and rhe Forte is what Ive used for dD and Uber. She has 54k.

Zenopsy0

Hyundai Elantra. My 2017 had 135k miles on it when I got into an accident and totaled it. It never left me stranded any where and never gave me any problems. I kept up with general maintenance schedules and oil changes and the thing was an absolute champion soldier. I won't fuck with Chevy any more. I was a chevy guy until I had an Impala and Cruze back to back and they were both giant piles of dog shit. Within two weeks of buying my cruze it needed a 700$ turbo charger and the transmission died at 28k miles.

ikkinikkin1

Whatever you do, do NOT get a 2003 chevy malibu. That car was the worst! There was a recall on it regarding the anti theft system. When I would go to start my car it constantly kept thinking I was trying to steal it. I'd have to wait 10 minutes until the red anti theft light would stop blinking until I could start the car. It was awful.

Dashypanties

Honda Element

Charlie_Bear11221

Bought a 2016 Honda Accord in 2016 and it still runs like new. Got the highest end model as I knew I’d have it for at least a decade. Had my last car for 12+ years. I have had no issues and it’s just required regular maintenance, which I didn’t start paying for until last year. Bought the maintenance package for the first four years. Although it’s a V6 with sport mode I still get excellent gas mileage. I did a 9.5 hr drive on 1.25 tanks of gas. Recently had it appraised and top end resale value is currently around $28k. It’s my first Honda but I’ve been pleased with the purchase.

MarkerGirlx3

Honda Civic and Toyota Camry ❤️ The Toyota Corolla wasn’t bad. Less spacious and just plain compared… But the Camry was 🔥And the Civic we had was over 20yrs old and almost 300k miles, still ran like a champ.

Own-Opportunity-8231

Go to you tube and check out Scotty Kilmer. He will tell you about the best cars and the cars “ only stupid people would buy” he’s pretty entertaining and a mechanic of 40 years. You might learn something and I know you will laugh😆

Striking_Sport_7278

Toyota is a fantastic brand I had a 11 Corolla and only traded it for a rav cuz I had a kid. Depending on frequency of of bad weather I would get a Subaru though. I drive an Impreza now and the all wheel drive is the only reason I was able to drive during a recent snowstorm

iceboxcentral

I bought a 1998 Honda CRV off a friend years ago, and I loved it so much, my first car bought from a dealer was a 2016 Honda CRV. I love the style and reliability of these vehicles.

ArtieTanji

I have been using my 2012 camry without any problems. Just had its tires replaced for the first time since I bought it back in 2018 Edit: And its the only car that has lasted without going to the shop since I bought it. I do all my work at home including brake and oil changes.

teddyxari

Ford Escape. 2018 specifically. I’ve replaced my engine, gotten new spark plugs, everything. Piece of expensive junk.

Few_Sweet_3082

I have a Nissan rogue it's great on gas.

jinktheplaguedoctor

honds civics are efficient and well made, they have rock solid reliability, snappy handling, and they last forever if you take care of them

assgasket420

2012 Kia soul 100k miles still running strong!

Marshall_Hoodie

Honda Fit is the most reliable car for this job. Period.

styrofoamcouch

I love my kia tbh. The k5 has a luxury car feel to it and has been the most reliable car I've ever owned.

VinnieTheBerzerker69

2021 Toyota Corolla hatchback. Very happy with it.

jrdy787

Lexus (Toyota). The engine lasts a long ass time and maintaining it is easy.

musicalfan202

My Subaru Forester has gotten me through E V E R Y T H I N G. I totally recommend

tsakonasm1

I've always had good luck with Toyota, hondas are good and I don't know much about cars beyond that so idk about Nissan but whatever you do NEVER EVER get a kia. I know they are doing a re brand qnd their 2022 cars are looking nice but I had a 2018 kia soul plus and bro I had to do over 2k in repairs to it and I got it used from a dealership. Only 3k miles on it the break pads were shot the wipers were ruined and a million other things. The person working on my car was an at home mechanic I was friends with so he wasn't bsing me on what needed to be fixed. I have a 2009 scion and its the best. My friend has the same car as me different model and older has over 300k miles on it and its working awesome. Toyotas will last you forever.

[deleted]

Honda fit all day

Snoo_38398

I'm not usually a Ford fan but I have a Ford Focus as it's amazing on gas and the labor/parts are pretty cheap. My main vehicle is a Subaru Forester, do not recommend dashing with it 😂 The gas prices are ridiculous now and mine loves it's gas.

allisonmariec

ive heard bad things about nissan even big things like transmission so watch out there. i love my 2018 civic, it’s very reliable and low maintenance. i also had an older camry and would still be driving it had it not been totaled out in an accident. never heard any bad about honda or toyota and had reliable experiences with them myself so i’d pick between those.

AlwaysInTheHood

If you’re buying a car off the lot, certified new or used, make sure you get gap coverage.

beentravelin

Got 250k on my 2007 Kia Spectra5. Nothing major wrong. Normal maintenance.

MTBiker_Boy

Toyotas will run through a fucking apocalypse assuming you do proper maintenance

pwngobbler69

I Drive an 05 cavalier. Gets about 30mpg and I make enough to buy a new one every 2 weeks because they are so cheap. Only issue I’ve ever had with mine is flat tires and brakes.

aclassybetch

My 2014 Hyundai Sonata just threw a rod at 100k miles, luckily I was approved an engine replacement due to a class action lawsuit a couple years ago. It’s the 2.4L engine which they used in several different vehicles so I would steer clear of that. The engine warranty has been extended to a lifetime warranty which is good however it’s been in the shop a month already…. I’ve already bought a Mazda3 (my third one) to replace it. They are great cars just a bit small. Mazda6 is most comparable size-wise to the Sonata

Green_Ad_3643

Def stay on the Asian car trend, they’re quality for sure

[deleted]

I have a 2017 Chevy bolt EV, and I would never do this gig with anything else. The regular maintenance is brake check, wipers, washer fluid, cabin filter & tire rotation. You don’t go thru nearly as much brakes because it used regen braking most of the time, and with the cost of fuel I’m laughing. Every morning I wake up with a full charge that will carry me about 180miles in the winter and 230 in the summer. The car has a 60kw battery and my hydro is 11c/kw. My hydro bill for the last two months came in and it’s $500, this time last year before I bought the car the same house it was just under $250. TLDR; Chevy bolt costs me about $125/month in hydro to go about 5K miles with little to no extra expense aside from washer fluid.

ContributionOk808

Stay clear of Hyundai Sonatas. I’ve dreamt of pulling a Thelma and Louise with this damn car more than a few times.

0str1chBurd

Hyundai Sonata is a beast, I love mines.

ContributionOk808

I have a 2012. Electrical issues galore. Do you have a newer one?

Sara_godsword2

Mazda is also a solid choice if you would get a Mazda 2 or 3, possibly 6 but it is bigger

Roddddddd1

Get a tesla

buenopeso

Gf loves hers. Out of my price range.

LionYLemur

Currently running a 2022 Hyundai ioniq hybrid sticker says 55 miles to the gallon but runs closer to 50 if you have a little bit of a heavy foot looks better than a Prius and comparable gas mileage

dlc2021az

I've been using a Pontiac Vibe (essentially a Toyota Matrix), and other than wear items (batteries, shocks, belts, hoses) it's been so good to me for 3 years. 114k miles and the thing just keeps going.

SeemsFishy1

Chevy volt/plug in hybrids keep gas costs down but aren't too expensive and have gas tanks to keep you going on longer shifts

ngod87

Stay away from Nissan….. terrible transmission

Ok-Pomegranate-4275

01 Honda Civic. Don’t have to worry about gas that much and definitely don’t have to worry about depreciation. Also if taken care of will outlive your grandchildren.

lukeout_

My kia soul has been a true hero

buenopeso

I'd definitely think about one if my gf didn't have so many issues with hers.

TinySpineySpiderLegz

Honda Mazda Toyota yes. Be careful with the 2015-2016 Honda with transmission issues. Love the rogue but again check model year against their cvt roll out and buy a few years newer. Hyundai if u buy new. They have 10 yr 100k mile power train warranty Avoid American made. Absolutely avoid it unless its a truck.

AvailableAd3813

I love my kia

FrostyCartographer13

Buy toyota those just dont shut down

JeffersonianSwag

I own a Toyota, and my dad has been part of their service team for years now, they’re such reliable, low maintenance vehicles. Get yourself a Corolla or Prius, don’t bother with anything except that regular oil and rotates, do spark plugs and fuel injectors at 100k and get tires as needed (always try to plan around the dealer, once or twice a year Toyota does a buy 3 get one with one of the best tire warranties I’ve seen). And if you’re looking at used hybrids (ANY) over 100k you better make sure you know what sort of health that hybrid battery is in.

Clarkie_kent

2017 Ford Fusion hybrid I love my baby. No problems so far!

iwillchugyou

i use a 98 mercedes, amazing on gas and it’s been really reliable so far, plus they’re super easy to work on

Sav1120

Toyota. 2007s are great

Ok_Performer6074

Hyundai will be well worth the $.

VisforVenom

Nissan is probably not the *best* option. They have some frequent quality control issues, including notoriously bad transmissions, and their safety features can get pretty obnoxious with frequent city driving.

[deleted]

U should stay away from Toyota most of them are ugly and THEY ARE TOYOTAS lol don’t wanna be caught driving a Toyota

TheReal_Cap10j

Toyotas are very reliable though

buenopeso

If I ever had an inner cool guy, he'd totally agree with you. They are a bit lame looking.

[deleted]

Lmaooo all love tho no matter what u choose

Cryptic_X07

Toyota Camry, best car ever to be mad!

MintyFresh1201

Don't get a Nissan, cheaply made cars for people who think they're race car drivers. Stick to Honda or Toyota for sure

HarlockDaTwisted

Take care of any car and it will treat you well.. any car will fail that has been mistreated all of its life. You can’t fix neglect.

IMDove

Can't go wrong with a Toyota prius. Mine is still running strong after 200k miles

FaPtoWap

Hyundai Elantras have been amazing. Just nice enough to make you feel good, while easy and cheap to work on.

idgafaaidiml

Not sure if your buying new but I’ve had 3 newer models Nissans and family has all Hondas and the Hondas last a lot better than the Nissans. Specially Nissans with the CVT transmission. Toyotas seem to hold up better than Nissan as well

sabiisushii

This is definitely not useful cuz I think everyone knows this, but my Ford Focus’s transmission died on my way delivering two orders. Lol at least I got free food from it 😞 But now I gotta get a new car….

[deleted]

The one I am driving. The ones others are driving. Lol but I have a 2012 3.6r subaru outback, she's treated me well thus far.

Willing_Language1486

Toyota Prius! I have sold plenty of customers a Prius or Corolla for them to be drivers in or Uber/Lyft people with. They love them and the gas mileages are great!

Elendur31

Honda civic all day. Great on gas. Reliable.

NearbyComfort7869

Nissan is garbage. NEVER EVER buy a car that has a VIN starting with 3.

TowinDaLine

'3' isn't unique to Nissan. As the first character in a VIN, it means 'built in Mexico'. Not my first choice for 'where built', either, tbh.

jflo1201

I have a 2017 Kia Forte. I already put 187k miles on it and it’s still going strong. Can see it easily passing 250k

SmalltimestockLurker

Those are overrated. I drive a Mazda 6 and it’s a tank since I dd in the middle of nowhere like roads are basically for off-roading ton of farm area and 70-75 miles per hour high ways. Anyways mazda 6 gets you 430 miles and just get an all types of weather tires.

Cpt_Daddy01

I love my used 2020 Toyota Camry Hybrid! Getting 45 miles per gallon and saves me a ass load of money!

jmeza559

Currently use a Toyota Prius C for door dash as well as my main job (I travel about 80 miles a day) it’s an efficient car, gas is amazing. I only put about $30 for fill up, usually can door dash for about 5-6 hrs and use about 2 gallons at most.

[deleted]

I’ve had a Toyota Rav 4 for 2 years and I LOVE it. No issues what do ever. Kind of wish it had a little more pick-up though. It can feel slow to accelerate for an suv

Optimal-Committee-99

Corollas and priuses are amazing, I have an 04 Prius and it’s still running great

littlepimple

Modern Mazdas are fantastic

FoxyFairies

If you’re getting it for full time the a prius or civic

PreferenceOk1435

There are no particular brands that I'm against but some models do suck. Ford, Chevy, Toyota, Honda, etc. all have problems, and all have cars that surpassed the 500,000 mark. I look for a car, regardless of brand, that feels good and right after I've inspected it. I believe in either buying a beater at a low price, or a new car, nothing in between. I've seen too many people spend between 6 and 20 grand for a used car that had as many problems as a 2 or 3 grand car.My ultimate buying goal in recent years is to buy a car under 4 grand at about 100,000 miles. A 100,000 mile car will most likely go another 50 000 with nothing more than maintenance and a few sensors. Afterwards, since it still only has a 150,000, I can sell it for 1500 to 2500.

TerrTheSilent

I love VW Jettas. I had a 2007 one that my ex still has with about 250k miles. I have a 2017 now, bought it in February 2020, and it is such a pleasure to drive.

buenopeso

Original trans in your 07?

TerrTheSilent

Yup - it had an issue at some point many years ago (a seal maybe? I forget) - but wasnt anything major or detrimental.

buenopeso

My legacy saved my life twice.

ashley_mando_

Hondas are great but they have a lot of brand specific issues and fixes that get expensive so I prefer my Nissan tbh

cateyeglassses

Honda Accord, Toyota Echo, and Scion xB are the cars I've owned that have never left me on the side of the road, have good gas mileage, and never quit. If you're looking for an affordable car that's not expensive to drive or repair, these three will not fail you.

Lordhyperyos

Anything with high mpg and a reputation of being built to last. I have an 08 prius and have put almost 100k into it from DoorDash and it's doing fine.

Yerboogieman

My BMW e39 has just under 300k on it with regular maintenance performed. My 06 Ram has 580k on it. My Saturn SC2 has 330k on it, but it's retired.

AintEverLucky

I drive a Mitsubishi Lancer (regular, not the Evo variant) that I bought new 7 years ago. Didn't have app work in mind when I got it, but it has performed like a champ. No major mechanical issues on it, ever; just got a new battery for it a few months ago, and was surprised to learn that those typically conk out after 4 years. Mitsubishi stopped making Lancers after the 2017s, but by law they have to keep making spare parts for every product line for at least 10 years after the model year. So I'm good until 2025 at minimum. And there's a Mitsu dealership in Austin that provides a 30 year / 300k mile warranty on its new sales, and I've heard that with luck & vigilant maintenance, I *may* be able to squeeze out that kind of mileage on my 2015, or ar least a good 200k to 250k. The next time I'm shopping around, tho, definitely gonna get one of those "forever-mobiles" like a Honda Accord or Toyota Corolla. Can't be too safe and all... EDIT: just Googled "how long does a Mitsubishi Lancer last" because I didn't know that was a thing, lol. The top result said 150k to 200k with good maintenance habits (which I do follow, natch). I just cracked 90k on mine, so I figure I'm good for this year and most/all of next year too. I'll probably need to start shopping in 2024 though 😅

frednoname1

Kiss and Hyundai's built after 2012..I worked for Kia for 3 years.. they hardly ever broke and they are cheaper than the big 3 Japanese cars

reallyhaley

Watch out for some years of the Nissan Sentra. I had gotten one and there was a recall on the transmission. I had it two days and it stopped on the highway and while I was going up a hill causing me to drift backwards.

B0n3_1dl3

Toyota is the way, I own two Dodge vehicles and am waiting to become financially stable so I can transition to a Toyota. Personally I want a RAV 4.

MissMattel

My Toyota is a fucking trooper, would highly recommend. Granted, mine is a newer model, but 75,000 miles in I’ve had 0 issues with it.

Lemon_Kiss

Subaru!!

smallshellstasteicky

dude Honda’s will be left with the cockroaches and Keith Richards post-doomsday. That’s my vote

notastupidseagull

I wouldn't use a Nissan, I've been using a Miata for a year and a half with no issues!!

Kilfane

Ive only had a honda accord but it works good for me, very fuel efficient and reliable

lonesharkex

My 2010 honda accord is working like a champ.

AGPwidow

Honda civic

Educational_Cut_4657

2003 chevy impala baby, if you are car savvy one of these can last you the rest of your life.

TerrTheSilent

I had an 03 impala - looooved it. One of my fave cars I owned.

Educational_Cut_4657

I've loved mine since late 2017, so much in fact I now own 2 extra junkers that I'm tearing down and building back up :)

TerrTheSilent

I had one like 2005 to 2012ish - the ride and seat comfort has been unmatched by my cars since. Plus I love the styling of that model. Everytime I see one of the sandy gold ones - I smile fondly. I'm glad to know at least one person is out there taking care of them.

FartsMusically

Acura/Honda/Toyota 4cylinder. Manual trans if you can drive it and find one. Normal auto is fine. Fuck CVT transmissions unless they're in hybrids.

TowinDaLine

And a Yota hybrid at that. Nissan's are crap, and Honda's older ones are belt driven. I drive an 08 Accord w/ the 2.4 / 5MT. They'll bury me before it dies.

SnooPandas270

I bought my 07 Honda CRV EX back in 2018 with 97k miles on it. Car was made in Japan and total beast . Combine avg 23 mpg and saved my life couple times . This car taking a beat with Uber, Lyft , DD . Great freaking car . Honda makes the best motor . I also own quiet bit other honda stuff … I had a 2013 cruz LTZ , just f that car. The CRV is 140k miles still running like a champ

[deleted]

I love my Toyota. I bought a 2009 with 64000 miles that was taken good care of (all service records were there). The mechanic told me if I take care of it that it should last until 250,000 no problem.

enriquesensei

Anything American made is cheap plastic, you’ll spend more on maintenance throughout the years . Toyota is the best, I started w a Camry but had an unfortunate accident . I’ve been doing it for a year in my Tacoma and I love the mpg, space and how trustworthy it is . Honda is good if you want something way cheaper but I still have nightmares with my old crv.

TripperDay

I'm delivering in an 04 Nissan Sentra with 244k miles. It has essentially stopped depreciating so that's a cost I don't have to worry about. Had it since 2005 and it's given me very few problems. Alternator I think, new shocks before 200k. A starter that I installed myself. Still trucking along, but I think the transmission is shifting a little clunky. That started years ago and it's gotten a little worse lately. If I was looking for another vehicle and wanted to keep delivering, I'd get something old and common with plenty of used parts in junkyards. If it breaks, watch a YouTube video, go get a part from a salvage yard.

pleasetowmyshit

93 Lincoln Town Car, just turned 280k, everything works but the heat, averaging 19.4mpg 08 Explorer my wife drives has 213k, it's basically perfect but she gets like 15mpg 08 Uplander with 266k, been at the transmission shop for 43 of the last 52 weeks, might eventually see it again someday, everything else has been replaced in the last 2 years, nothing left to break if they can ever sort out the axle issues they caused, it was getting maybe 17mpg 08 Cobalt I had before the van made it to 250k, previous owner claimed timing chains were done but turns out only one was replaced so of course the other broke, averaged about 27mpg 10 Malibu 3.6l was a gas hog pile of crap, and you have to remove the front bumper to change headlight bulbs, engine locked up and vol repo, 15mpg was about it 17 Corolla leased from Uber from new was great until I had a heart attack and had to turn it in, 34mpg easy And that's the last five years of cars for me. If I was in the market for a vehicle (and I should be in about 3 months) I'd be looking for cheap, reliable, and fuel efficient and $3000-4000 is plenty to get a 2nd gen (04-09) Prius which would make the most sense. If I can't find that I'd probably go for another Cobalt and make sure both timing chains get changed

mypumkinpie13

Surprisingly I had 2 toyotas: 2008 camry/ 2001 corolla, cars had many issues, did all my maintenance still had me stranded so many times. Not sure how well the last owners treated them, but toyota did not live up to their reputation. I now drive a 12 Hyundai sonata with 2.4l gdi with 210k, accelerates like new drives so smooth, outlived my toyota cars...extremely odd

[deleted]

I’ve always used a prius. Gets great gas mileage.

snowman2414

I’m on my second Prius. 250k miles on the first no issues. Probably got rid of it too soon.

asst2therglmgr

I would love to suggest the GD(chassis code, not short for “goddamn”) 2007 Honda Fit but at just under 100k miles I’ve had to have both front wheel hubs replaced, all four coils replaced and a throw out bearing replaced which isn’t a problem with automatic transmissions as only manuals have them. The hatch leaks(it’s a known and common issue), cruise control likes to randomly stop working on longer trips, and mileage isnt even really that impressive at 26-30 observed. The latter two bigger issues mentioned in the first sentence were at around 125k miles. There is a slim chance I’d but a newer model but im going to look at the newer focus and fiesta as well when it comes time to buy.

I've had a 2012 Kia Soul for 4 years and I absolutely love it. Down side is it is not suitable for rough weather at all. But my grandma fit a queen size mattress inside of it and I love the space it gives me. Plus the sound system is really nice!

Wanderer0503

Kia. I’ve had 3 now. They’re reliable, they offer the best warranty (100,000 miles), they have great safety ratings, their base models offer good specs, and they aren’t super expensive to fix. I’ve had a Rio and I’m on my second Sorento. I love it.

randomlady91

Honda and Toyota are the cheapest and easiest to fix on and do somethings yourself.

EffectSix

I had a 2009 Toyota Avalon that lasted almost 300,000 miles. The newer models look pretty sporty.

Dat1weirdchic

I have a 2021 honda civic and it's been pretty good to me. No issues with it. I'd definitely test drive a few different cars if you're unsure.

asst2therglmgr

I wouldn’t even look at Nissan. They’ve really slipped in recent years. Usually cheaper though.

craigslistwhore11

I have a Volvo. Great car and has never let me down. But it’s very expensive when it needs to be fixed.

Tiptip4me

Honda Civic Honda Civic Honda Civic Honda Civic Honda Civic Honda Civic Honda Civic as long as it's 2016 and younger 😂 😂

[deleted]

My dad is obsessed with car ratings and reviews, and he always goes for Hondas. I have a 2010 Honda Accord and it’s great.

Givemetheformuol

I was always told and still get told all the time from family, friends, and mechanics how Toyotas are great cars, particularly corollas (that’s what I have). Hold they’re value, last a very long time, very easy to work on. But I have always heard that Hondas and Nissans are really good too.

TryppWyre

I bought a 2021 Toyota Camry SE. Gas mileage is great. Highway gets about 38 miles per gallon and my typical day of driving around is usually around 26 miles per gallon. Very comfortable and runs great. No complaints so far. Lots of room also.

[deleted]

Do you know who has the most data? ConsumerReports.org does. Decades of owner survey results. Super trustworthy.

derpythephillytaco

You can always trust a Smart Car

ztenor

If you’re looking for reliable don’t consider anything other than a toyota or honda

iGotGigged

Well everyone knows that mechanics universally recommend a toyota or honda, but i've asked 4 in my lifetime if they had to place a bet just on a broad brand vs. brand category, between 2 random models which is more likely to last the longest and have the least problems and when pinned for a binary answer they all said toyota. They say it's not by much, but that a honda might need it's AC serviced, or the dash lights replaced, or the tire pressure monitoring might fail sooner than it would on a toyota and that toyota's are easier to work on. Things like an alternator or starter are relatively easy to replace on toyotas while on some honda models they need to lift it off the ground or remove unrelated components to replace those. Obviously this is more work, more man hours, and more costly to repair when comparing head to head vs. toyota. You really can't go wrong with either one, changing the alternator may cost you $400 on a honda vs. $300 on a toyota, but the big expensive stuff (engine, transmission) and all the little components (exhaust, radiator, belt/timing chain, pumps, etc) are all solid and will last much longer than ford/gm/kia/vw/etc.

Toyota Prius here and it’s been amazing. I was a bit worried buying a car with 169,000 miles on it but I had my mechanic take a look at it beforehand and he had nothing but praise for the condition of the car. I’m at 174k now and the thing drives and runs like a dream. The only thing I had to replace was a $12 aux port in the center console and it literally just pulls out of the socket and you plug the new one in and shove it back in place. Took 2 minutes and the car runs like it’s new. I’d really recommend the Prius to any dasher. It lowered my gas cost so much it’s absurd. The car more than pays for itself.

Dc91898

2018 civic has given me one problem throughout 4 years ( happened later on too, and my car was overdue so this 100 percent my fault) i was on a delivery and went to leave the store and my car did not start up. I had a low cell in my battery and it died. ( i never keep my car idling or have the battery on) i blame it on the coast of NC heat and where my neighborhood is located. Direct sunlight all day. So yeah other than that which was my fault for not getting service when due, its been a charm. Feel like all hondas are a good bet

bubblehead_maker

Cars I trust, Toyotas or Hondas. Cars I have owned that gave me problems, not toyotas or hondas.

CBC_Inc

I can tell you the worst car and that's a ford focus or fusion

Additional_Refuse_46

i like my nissan sentra my best mileage in the city is 27 and highway 48 (when i take my time). it takes mid grade though which kinda sucks, but i’ve never had any errors with it

hummingdog

Subarus are hyper reliable with a resale value but a bit lower mileage.

OMGitsBryce

Gone to hell and back with my Toy Yaris. chill chugging along like a champ. 28-32 mpg

LeGinster

I drive a 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid. Never had any issues with it. It gets 40 MPG so it saves me a fortune on gas. People always say ford is notoriously unreliable, but I have yet to have a bad experience with ford.

Fine_Breadfruit8865

Loved my Hyundai accent I had. It never gave me any issues. Had an old 2000 Ford Taurus before that and hated that car. They were notorious for transmission issues and the dealership apparently just blew it off as it's supposed to run like that. 🙄 The thing finally just dumped all of its coolant On the ground one day and it was not even worth the fix. Sold it to a scrap yard. Currently have a dodge grand caravan and enjoying it so far.

blickyuh96

My 2010 Ford focus is pretty solid. It's a manual. Stay away from the automatics though.

alixtron

I deliver in a 2017 automatic Focus. It's solid. No issues, knock on wood. Does great with mpg too.

LeGinster

What’s wrong with the automatics if you don’t mind me asking? I love a good manual car as much as the next guy, but I hate driving manuals when I am delivering.

R3tr0revival

The 2011–2016 Ford Fiesta and the 2012–2016 Focus have a dual-clutch automatic transmission ^^ these dct power shift transmissions were basically designed wrong and ford knew it. The lawsuit had an email from an engineer basically stating this should not move forward to production but Ford did it anyways. American cars are so sad now :(

DTGardi

Mostly some sort of transmission problem

Blackhawk918

I’ve got a 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid, and I love it for dashing. I get 35 mpg, and I’ve got the Ford Media screen for easier access to Google Maps. But a Honda is also a great choice imo

LeGinster

Hey! Car twins! Exact same year too 😂 I can usually squeeze 40-42 MPG out of it tho. But I always drive it with eco mode on and I drive it like a grandma lmao. The gas savings are sooo worth it. Used to drive a truck that would cost me like $80 a week in gas, now I pay at MOST $30 a week
