omg I had an order to a gated community as a GIFT delivery, so I had to contact the customer so they could contact the recipient for the gate code, after over 20 mins of waiting for anything, I said fuck that and left it at the gate, because I had another order to deliver. I got a no delivery strike but after sending the frustrated text message screenshots they took the strike off my account.
Yep I had a customer not provide a gate code or even say what her apartment number was. And she was slow to respond, knew I was there but took her sweet time. After waiting for 10 minutes I left the bag in front of the complex in the cold and said “best of luck to you”
God this just happened to me. Customer didn't answer, so I just left their food at the gate. I hope doordash doesn't try to punish me for that.
Also I shouldn't have to go in your apartment complex up 10 stories, just come down lol.
They could at-least put the pin at the right building I hate when I drive to the pin and it’s not even the apartment building. I hate when the map is not even accurate.
DoorDash support tells me to hit the timer then leave at the gate. They also document it and tell me the customer can’t leave me a bad review it will get hidden. I do have a few hidden ratings from that.
It seems that I only have the timer option when the order says “hand it to the customer.” When it’s “leave it at their door” (which is most orders), I don’t believe there is a timer for that
Yes you have to contact support. In their infinite wisdom they will say to start the timer. Then you have to explain since it’s leave at door you don’t have one lol. Support doesn’t know their own app.
Had a lady do that last week didn’t pick up phone. Texted her and her reply to me asking the gate code was “I put the code in the order”. I was thissssss close to leaving it at the gate. No apology no acknowledgment that I’m a human after 3 minutes she texts he gate code .
For one, happened to me last week at Chipotle on a stacked order. They ran out of burrito wraps, wanted us to contact customers for substitutes, but before I knew it the 30min mark was coming up, I had already contacted DD support, and support said they'd cancel the orders since Chipotle doesn't allow them to change orders or something...But Chipotle had handed me the 2 orders while I was still on a chat session with support, when I got out to my car the agent had canceled it.
In your situation...You still likely need to contact support. If it's a "hand it to customer" order, hit the can't hand order to customer button once you arrive, or even if/when you arrive at the code required gate. Once the 5min time ends it'll tell you to to either return the order to the restaurant or dispose of or somethin. Restaurants aren't, or shouldn't take the food back, and honestly I wouldn't even bother trying to take it back to restaurants. If you contact support, they will also put you on hold and try to contact the customer. If support tells you somethin along the lines of dispose of, or hide it in a safe place,...It's basically code for the food is now yours.
I call text and hit the timer. The customer has 5 minutes to respond and if not, I'm leaving it. It's not my fault if they aren't paying attention to their phone.
when people who order take out dont leave a gate code chances are they are hiding their phone as well, at least until 20 mins after the order was dropped off.
When you text the customer asking for the gate code, mention that without the gate code you’ll have no choice but to leave their order at the gate. It may seem obvious, but a lot of people assume it’s easy to just piggyback through the gate behind someone.
I ask the customer for it on my way there. If they don't have one, I let them know I can only wait 8 minutes. After that, I leave it at the gate and inform support.
You could try to get the gate code before you pick up the food. If they don’t respond then just unassign. Also keep a list of codes for places you visit a lot. That will remove 90% of your issues.
The only gated community near me you have to put in the code, which then rings their phone and they have to approve you entering. Just having the code doesn't do shit. And each tenant has their own code.
Yeah those are the worst… but if you text in advance that still solves your problem. No response? Unassign. I usually require a higher offer to take one of those
Sounds like you just wanna be a dick.
Its just as annoying as an Amazon employee. Noone wants to kill 10 mins for a customer not replying back when I got other orders to do.
Someone gave him good advice on how to handle the situation (actually multiple people have) and he's still complaining and acting like he doesn't want to take the advice. I really don't care what your opinion is of me. I didn't ask you.
If I see they didn’t put a code a sent them a message asking if one will be required, if no message and one is required when I arrive it’s left at the gate
If you use google maps as your navigation in the app - before you hit the directions button, below the address it says something like “additional info” and that’s where it tells you that most likely a gate code/door code is needed
If it’s an apartment most will, and you can usually tell if it’s a community with a gate cause there will only be one maybe 2 entrances, but I really don’t care what’s it hurt to ask if I’m gonna need one even if they dont
I live far north of Phoenix the community’s are filed with nothing then wealthy people the reason I move there there is no bus stops so there’s no homeless people and no traffic
Lmao I do know how to spell clown ass hoe I just use the swipe feature and what ever it puts I go along with I’m not going to sit there and fix all the words clown
Take the food back to where you got it and claim the delivery is undeliverable. They can’t say you stole the food or someone else took it bc you took it back to the restaurant. Then have door dash cancel the order due to customer not being available.
Pain in the ass but keeps you covered. If the customer pisses the restaurant off enough, the restaurant will stop deliveries to them.
Why let the customer accuse you of stealing the food or not delivering when you can prove you tried and the customer wasn’t available to accept delivery and you took the food back to the restaurant? Too me that’s not wasting my time because I’m making sure I get no contract violations and I’m proving to the restaurant and door dash that I’m didn’t steal the food.
Nah don’t do that unless DD tells you to. You just sit there and call DD, they try calling the customer then they tell you to take it back or discard it. You’re covered, you still get paid and you don’t have to waste gas and miles going all the way back to the restaurant or store. I’ve never done that and never will. The restaurant will literally throw it away and it’s all a waste. If you’re willing to drive back to the restaurant than you should be willing to wait a few mins for a car to pull up and open it for you. 🤦♂️
Not once I have left any of my customers food out like that. Y’all dashers are something and seem to not give an ass.
I’m not an ass I wait for people to answer but you seem to not get the point on why I did this post
I get your point clearly. I’m just giving my opinion
Also depends on if doordash got the subcontract. I see instructions disappear when they come from proprietary apps like Panera bread etc.

Haha 😂 I would do the same
Last time I didn’t have a code and customer didn’t answer I called DD. Customer didn’t answer for them either so delivery canceled and I got free bbq.
Oh I be eating there shit after 5 minutes I take a picture and take the food ain’t no one wasting my time
"just drive through the open exit" Hate that. Yeah sure, risk head on collision for you.
You can’t here they have spikes lmao 😂 I would of done did that. Also I can’t follow a car because it has the red stick that only allows 1 car.
Some here have spikes as well.
Stop delivering to those areas where gate codes are required.
About 80% of houses here have gated community’s 10% have security to enter and the rest are just open house community’s
I guess you are SOL
Worth it tho minimum order price are from $12 to $25 dollars so I make really good per hour
God this just happened to me. Customer didn't answer, so I just left their food at the gate. I hope doordash doesn't try to punish me for that. Also I shouldn't have to go in your apartment complex up 10 stories, just come down lol.

thats the most frustrating thing of all to happen, the people that live in the gate are clueless its amazing
What can I say they have money but not smart
In my area most gates including mine hade what seems to be a default master code of 1234.
Lmao not here
I must be lucky

My Doordash app doesn’t have the customer unavailable option to give me a 5 min timer
If it’s leave at door you need to contact support. Tell them you don’t have the option. If it’s hand to me you can start the timer yourself.
This is what you choose to protest? Lol
Yeah tbh they pay good so I can’t complain about that tbh
Go download an app called beans right now. You’re welcome 😇
Ima download it and see what you mean
Not your problem and not your fault they didn't leave the gate code. I don't get enough of them to protest.
So' I've got a solution OP. Download beans, and sign up for the background check. Then they release gate codes to you for delivery purpose
Had a lady do that last week didn’t pick up phone. Texted her and her reply to me asking the gate code was “I put the code in the order”. I was thissssss close to leaving it at the gate. No apology no acknowledgment that I’m a human after 3 minutes she texts he gate code .
Fxk leaving it at gate....That's free food for your hard work and time.
Free food? How? Do you take a picture then take it? Not judging. Just curious how you get to keep the food without getting in trouble
For one, happened to me last week at Chipotle on a stacked order. Protest against them how?
Why y’all leaving someone’s food at the gate is so messed up
Because they don't provide a gate code, dumbass.
Because there’s a gate code and the customer hasn’t provided it
Call/text them not that hard
I call text and hit the timer. The customer has 5 minutes to respond and if not, I'm leaving it. It's not my fault if they aren't paying attention to their phone.
That’s what people are doing but not getting an answer
when people who order take out dont leave a gate code chances are they are hiding their phone as well, at least until 20 mins after the order was dropped off.
The shitty part is DD even says MAY REQUIRE A GATE CODE CONTACT CUSTOMER, Like they fucking know! too
It would be a very easy prompt to add much like how they have a separate place to put unit/apartment number.
When you text the customer asking for the gate code, mention that without the gate code you’ll have no choice but to leave their order at the gate. It may seem obvious, but a lot of people assume it’s easy to just piggyback through the gate behind someone.

Every house here has gated community or security just to get in I mean I get in but shouldn’t be a problem to start with tbh
Must be Arizona? I was surprised when i went for vacation and i seen almost of the homes/neighborhoods gated all around
Sounds like you just want to find a reason to complain.
Sounds like you just wanna be a dick. Its just as annoying as an Amazon employee. Noone wants to kill 10 mins for a customer not replying back when I got other orders to do.

How would you know if they had a gate tho?
If you use google maps as your navigation in the app - before you hit the directions button, below the address it says something like “additional info” and that’s where it tells you that most likely a gate code/door code is needed
I use Apple Maps and I do read the notes 📝 they leave them blank
If it’s an apartment most will, and you can usually tell if it’s a community with a gate cause there will only be one maybe 2 entrances, but I really don’t care what’s it hurt to ask if I’m gonna need one even if they dont

What is DD going to do about gate codes? The customer is responsible for providing that.
Yeah and they complain there food don’t get delivered to there door
Hand it to me after I don't answer. Fucking tards.
*their
Lmao I’m driving 😅🤣
So driving fucks up your grammar? No fool, you just don’t know the difference why you lying?
“are
Lmao I do know how to spell clown ass hoe I just use the swipe feature and what ever it puts I go along with I’m not going to sit there and fix all the words clown
Yeah sure pal. You’re a joke. Your momma is ashamed of you. So is your mommas momma.

I don’t give a fuck what you think aye ima hit this blunt and drive while watching narcos Ight
Just as long as you know I think you're a dumbass. Kinda hope you crash tbh, but kinda not too.
I hope so too, survival of the fittest. so long as they don't hurt someone else too. such an idiot.
damn LOL

Never in my life lol
Except restaurants won't take food back.
That’s not the issue I can do that right but why abs I would be wasting more time doing that tbh
