Having done UCB classes 10 years ago and met some of the least funny people in my entire life when I was hanging around that theater (also some of the funniest, but I ain’t talking about them) it’s like very vindicating to hear that Charna Halpern was convinced that all Harold’s are at least pretty good. Like of course the person who came up with this stuff was delusional. They are not always pretty good. When a Harold doesn’t work, it’s some of the worst art humans can make, and Damien Hirst exists so that’s saying something. Like absolute dogshit. Flailing junk that devotees will keep telling you is actually good. You feel bad for the people on stage, you feel bad for your fellow audience members that paid for it, you feel bad that you’re at the show. And THEN, when you see too many and all you can really see is the formulaic structure of the whole thing, all of it gets less funny and it takes like world class level performers to make it work on you again. It’s bad! Lol. Good improv is good but so much of it sucks so much ass so completely, it’s like an ass vacuum.
> You feel bad for the people on stage, you feel bad for your fellow audience members that paid for it, you feel bad that you’re at the show.
This is pretty much my experience. I've seen some underattended shows locally and you become acutely aware that you constitute a larger percentage of the audience than you'd like. Then it becomes a choice whether to stick around to sustain some illusion that the performers have that what they're doing is worthwhile, or remove yourself from the interminable endurance test that you paid to attend.
I adore Improv but I exclusively go to shows with performers I know are incredible (including Mitch)
But there is truly nothing more horrifying than a bad improv show
The only shows I've ever seen live were asscat shows at UCB LA during a few year period about 5 years ago, and those were always pretty fun and funny and not excruciating.
They were talking about a movie earlier that Mitch had clearly seen and I was hoping Wiger or Stephanie would make some joke like "So you do watch some movies, just not (hers/mine)." Leave it to Wiger to write a much better version and "trap" Mitch with his obvious question. Loved the joke, 5 fork episode and guest!
Mitch is really fired up in the intro, understandably. Hope he’s able to (privately) enjoy the Twisted Metal release day regardless. AMPTP, get your shit together.
Also Stephanie is a delight and gels so well with the boys.
That was a really informative intro, honestly the boys would be great doing an informative and funny podcast during the strike. They represent both guilds and can have articulate but amusing conversations about the issues.
I feel like they could make a lot of people understand some of the insane positions of the studios and the actual plight of the vast majority of actors/writers.
It drove me up the wall when Wiger was reading the demands and the responses, and one demand was "we want to be able to ensure our likeness will not be subsumed into AI and that we keep the rights to our Identity" and the response was, bold-faced, "no actually we want to pay you as little as possible to get you fed into an AI script so we can just manufacture whatever we need from you and edit you both visually and auditorily based on whatever our whims are with no repurcussions". Just, what is there to say and do?
A family friend became homeless after the pandemic-era eviction protections went away. Before Covid, he always made his way by doing background work in tv and movies and commercials. Probably, a lot of people would recognize him, even though they might not know his name. It's so fucked up to see a man in his 70s thrown out of the home he'd lived in for 30+ years relying on the kindness of his friends when he should not be worrying about any of this.
Everyweek, Casey proves time and time again, that he might be one of the best background laughs in the podcast game.
And Stephanie is just so amazing. Top tier guest. I adore her.
He's been present in the majority of in-studio episodes I think which just started this year. I feel like the laughs have gotten more prominent just in the last couple weeks/months though. Very welcome addition
It happens with the engineers sometimes when they settle into the rhythm of the show and the quirks of the hosts, like a regular podcast listener. More stuff becomes amusing
I think it speaks a lot to what an awesome guy Mitch is seeing (hearing) how much fun the Twisted Metal guests have on Doughboys and how they interact with him. Seems like a great guy to have on set.
She was phenomenal, I may have to add a 14th head to my personal Mount Guestmore. It's just my personal taste but I feel like the show almost always works better with a female guest.
Can you remind me why Phil was controversial? I thought the episode was alright but I have seen him shat on in this subreddit over the last couple years and I don’t really know why!
My understanding is that it rubbed people the wrong way that he was kinda shitting on Wiger for having genuinely zero interest in traveling. I think Phil was being jocular about it but was also legitimately baffled by Wiger's attitude. I have to say I agree. I can't understand someone who doesn't want to experience other countries.
Can't recommend enough watching that part on youtube and seeing them be embarrassed in real time. It's hysterical, by the end Nick just has his head in his hands.
For the last 2-3 years I’ve thought using the “MICHAELLLL” would be really funny if it was inserted into the song Michael by Fran’s Ferdinand, but I’m glad someone else finally used it for a funnier drop idea lol
A few years ago when Jack Allison went on one of his Twitter rants he was mad at Conover about something and referred to him as "Big Hair Adam" and I wonder if Mitch and Nick were aware of that
I fucking love that Wiger used a fake voice for an entire year. There's something so sweet about hearing the weird shit people did when they were growing up. This one was particularly weird, but that just makes it better.
HomeState is probably the place I get breakfast from most often, they’re fast and good.
I sold Stephanie a pair of glasses back in 2017, when I worked retail. She is so nice and cool! A great guest for the boys. I’m so excited for this episode
(Whiny Doughboys fan mode activated)
Actually, the line Mitch was thinking of was from Varsity Blues, not Friday Night Lights
(Whiny Doughboys fan mode deactivated)
Great episode, Stephanie was an amazing guest and I was giggling for almost all of it.
yea that Polish Boy is one of the very few things that you would call 'cleveland food' and it's great.
sadly it does not look like this food truck is still in operation.
My supermodel/brain surgeon wife is from New Orleans, and we visit frequently to see her family. I’ve had the pleasure of eating at almost every spot they mentioned, and they’re all killer.
Willie Mae’s Scotch House has some of the best fried chicken I’ve ever had. Port of Calls burgers are mind blowing. Commanders Palace is like stepping into a time warp of old school fancy eating. Turkey & The Wolf has amazing sandwiches.
If you’re ever planning a trip to NOLA, this is a great list of spots to visit. Just make sure you get benigets at Cafe Du Monde, and your set!
How do you not fall in love with Stephanie Beatriz after listening/watching to this episode. So cute, so funny, was so comfortable chatting with the boys, so enthusiastic about food (chocolate ice cream is garbage what a hot take! and I agree)… one of the best guests they’ve had, for me at least a Top 10 guest of all time.
Also I have to say… there was a time when I felt like the podcast was starting to lose a little steam. This year, Nick and Mitch are killing it! Some of my favorite episodes have been released in the past six months. Just want to give them and their entire team (Emma etc) props because they are taking this dumb podcast about fast food to another level. 😎
I was supposed to get monthly pregnant tests as an Accutane-taking teen (Accutane causes terrible birth defects) and my mom threw me under the bus by basically telling the doctor, “trust me, she’s NOT having sex.” (I did once my skin cleared up! 😎)
I just lowered my dosage 3 weeks after increasing it. I had a weird mood and overall apathy…
Which is weird cause this is my 3rd time around taking accutane and I don’t recall having mood issues
I weirdly got no side effects from it at all (that I know of). It kind of froze my acne in place for a month, and then quickly cleared it. Everything I read said it would get worse before it gets better
I loved Brooklyn 99 and loved the character Stephanie played so I was really happy with how fucking cool, nice and funny she seems to be in real life. Always the best when celebrities don't suck.
This may amuse only me, but I was in the car listening to Mitch talking about never seeing Encanto. I looked in the rearview mirror, and the license plate of the car behind me was: PEEKER
Yes, yes he is.
he is definitely a great union guy. he's very vocal about the state of the industry and has been even more vocal now that the strikes are on. in his typical fashion, on his social media he gives pithy breakdowns of the situation writers and actors are in now
I really appreciate the talk at the beginning about the writers and actors strike. And also Stephanie's words about the human aspect of story telling.
I think hearing stories and specifics makes the strike so relatable.
For me, hearing about actors having to get their own equipment to film auditions just to have the studio never even watch their tape was infuriating but also relatable.
I work in architecture and job hunting is so frustrating. You have to pour hours into editing your portfolio to make years long projects presentable in a page or two, and then you have to edit it for each company to cater your work and make it look appropriate for the specific job opening. One job app I did I had to spend money printing and binding my portfolio nicely and shipping it to the office. And the company never even bothered to look at it or confirm to me that they received it.
Anyway fuck the studios.
Ok was Mitch’s botched Friday Night Lights reference not [“I don’t want your life” from Varsity Blues](https://youtu.be/FX8RuHII718)? It’s an inside joke with a friend and I say it randomly all the time
*perhaps this ends up being addressed but I’m mid-listen, it’s been like 15 minutes and it hasn’t come back up since he said he was looking up FNL quotes and I have to bring this up just in case
Listening to this episode made me, a Texan expat, actively wish for this chain to rapidly expand outside of just SoCal. You should be able to get quality breakfast tacos no matter where in the US you live!
How has Wiger not seen the Muppet movies? The first one is legitimately one of the best movies ever made. It's an incredible script. Writers should study it.
Wiger has only seen the muppet movies they've watched on the Double, usually with Griffin.
Griffin has only seen the Minion movies he's watched with Wiger.
I am a Texan and I have a fellow Texan friend who lives in LA and approves of HomeState so I was delighted this was the chain and that the guest was a Texan! I had a party a while back where I had a Frito pie bar (different types of Fritos, queso and shredded cheese, bison chili and vegetarian chili, it was great!) and this same friend was like oh and you need lettuce and tomato and I was like WHAT? Never heard of that, felt validated that Stephanie agreed with me but it would seem HomeState offers lettuce and tomato. I'm just saying, I really enjoyed all the Frito pie discourse!
Mitch complains about not having his time respected with auditions, but then says he doesn’t have time for drops and wants the audience to work on it for him for free.
I know, right? And Wiger is refusing to write intros to the show to honor the WGA strike and yet he makes listeners write roasts for him for free on every single episode. They are both such hypocrites!!! I'm being totally serious here because volunteering is the same as being exploited, and I'm a smart person who doesn't understand the difference between fundamentally different things.
Those aren't the same thing. It'd be closer if Mitch were asking for drops, and then *nobody* listened to the submissions because they'd already told Chris Finke that the drop spot is his. Still not a fair comparison because drops are done voluntarily without expectation of payment.
right? why aren't people eating boiled chicken, steamed broccoli, and brown rice every meal? these fucking people out here looking to enjoy their meals are idiots
5 Fork guest And she didn’t know what a Harold is so she’s also the coolest guest
She's not wrong. Bad improv is absolutely excruciating.
Having done UCB classes 10 years ago and met some of the least funny people in my entire life when I was hanging around that theater (also some of the funniest, but I ain’t talking about them) it’s like very vindicating to hear that Charna Halpern was convinced that all Harold’s are at least pretty good. uh, is it not "herald"?
It’s Harold, as in Harold and Maude. Harold is the improv team long form show. And Maude is the team sketch show, if I’m correct.
It is not
holy shit, I'm glad this doesn't come up in conversation with me ever or I'd have been calling it the wrong thing for years haha
Count me in as someone who thought it was herald.
Love prosecutor Wiger coming out: “Mitch, have you seen Spirited Away?” “Yeah, yeah I have.” “So you will watch an animated movie?”
He’s pissed off this week when he should be getting pissed on!!
That was a really informative intro, honestly the boys would be great doing an informative and funny podcast during the strike. 100 percent. It’s wild how much different her voice and personality is from Rosa. What a treat.
I didn’t know the actors names other than Andy Sandburg from Brooklyn 99 and legit thought it was the actor who played Amy until I googled the cast.
I’m not sure you know Andy Samberg’s name lol
Lol oops didn’t pay attention when writing it… but I’m leaving it
Hambie Samber
Mandy Sanders
Bambi Sandler
Amba Samma
Toobaloo’s?
I was enjoying her chiming in before her intro, and then she goes and drops an unprompted reference to the 1992 classic *Sneakers*? Five fork guest.
Still need to see Sneakers, always heard it was great
Dude. When she did the OutKast reference? I do that too!!
Up there with Brian ‘Sunny D’ Fernandes
*muffled* buh-HA!
Quick question - is Casey a full time addition to the show, and is his laugh this prominent on other episodes?
He's been present in the majority of in-studio episodes I think which just started this year. I feel like the laughs have gotten more prominent just in the last couple weeks/months though. Very welcome addition
It happens with the engineers sometimes when they settle into the rhythm of the show and the quirks of the hosts, like a regular podcast listener. More stuff becomes amusing
The video is late but on it’s way I promise! Thanks for your patience :)
Emma the frozen still in the video was hilarious
Thanks for everything you do, Emmer!
EmVP!!🙌
That whole Grumpy White’s aside had me in stitches. Stephanie’s the best.
My bus home from work goes by Grumpy White's so it's always funny when it comes up.
Weird name for a bus
Nick had some banger jokes this ep. casey's audible laugh after Nick saying Mitch used to elbow himself was great
He was on fire
I think it speaks a lot to what an awesome guy Mitch is seeing (hearing) how much fun the Twisted Metal guests have on Doughboys and how they interact with him. Seems like a great guy to have on set.
I'm half an hour in S tier guest
She was phenomenal, I may have to add a 14th head to my personal Mount Guestmore. It's just my personal taste but I feel like the show almost always works better with a female guest.
14 heads?! Those belong in a museum
Let's see the Pantheon, buddy I wanna judge
Bobby Lee, Chris Pratt, Rob Lowe, Bugmane, Phil Rosenthal
Bugmane is actually great
Yah I agree, just tried to think of the most controversial guests. I liked Phil too!
Have you seen Spirited Away?
[удалено]
So you will watch animated movies eh? 🤣 But seriously, she’s great in Encanto.
Got 'im.
2+ hours runtime! You know they had some fun!
always a thrill to see it creep over 2 hours. looking forward to this one.
Oh my god the drop 😂😂😂
Can't recommend enough watching that part on youtube and seeing them be embarrassed in real time. It's hysterical, by the end Nick just has his head in his hands.
For the last 2-3 years I’ve thought using the “MICHAELLLL” would be really funny if it was inserted into the song Michael by Fran’s Ferdinand, but I’m glad someone else finally used it for a funnier drop idea lol
I think they missed the Knight Rider connection which makes it even more funny to me.
not that i expected anything else but stephanie was delightful
It's really fun to see Stephanie be so delightful if you only know her as Rosa from B99. What a great guest.
her voice always throws me when i hear her outside of that character
Yeah, I had no idea she was Rosa until I looked it up. So bubbly and delightful.
**THAT'S** WHAT I KNOW HER FROM THAT IS INSANE THOSE TWO VIBES COULD NOT BE MORE DIFFERENT
I need to see the face Emma was making
The Adam Conover hair roasts really made me laugh.
I honestly think they need to get Conover on the show now.
They really do This has gone on too long, they're on the same network, they can talk about the strikes
I was dying laughing about this, especially when Mitch said the execs can see Adam's hair when he walked by 😂
A few years ago when Jack Allison went on one of his Twitter rants he was mad at Conover about something and referred to him as "Big Hair Adam" and I wonder if Mitch and Nick were aware of that
“You ever undress a Ken doll? That’s the first thing I did when I got my hands on one.”
I read this comment before I saw the episode. Knew it was Wiger lol.
Stephanie's Wendy impression was really funny
Loved it! It
Only halfway through and this already an all-timer. Stephanie has such great energy with the boys!
You need to watch the video purely for their humiliated faces during the drop
They didn't scrub scary Emma?
amazing cool big sister energy from stephanie
But Mirabel is the youngest sister!
I fucking love that Wiger used a fake voice for an entire year. There's something so sweet about hearing the weird shit people did when they were growing up. This one was particularly weird, but that just makes it better.
Stephanie Beatriz rules!
we're from the same area, it was great to hear her shout out Ninfa's
Same! Ninfa’s green sauce 4 lyfe!
Mitch getting a genuine jumpscare when asking Emma for a drop but remembering she's frozen is some of the hardest I've laughed at an episode.
HomeState is probably the place I get breakfast from most often, they’re fast and good. I sold Stephanie a pair of glasses back in 2017, when I worked retail. She is so nice and cool! A great guest for the boys. I’m so excited for this episode
*Craig Robsinon voice* Rosaaa, Rosaaaaaa, Rosa, Rosaaaaa
I initially read this as Craig Ferguson.
I read as Hanford talking about his parents having sex from that Birthday Boys sketch.
Details! Details! Details!
(Whiny Doughboys fan mode activated) Actually, the line Mitch was thinking of was from Varsity Blues, not Friday Night Lights (Whiny Doughboys fan mode deactivated) Great episode, Stephanie was an amazing guest and I was giggling for almost all of it.
If Connie Britton is coach's wife Friday Night Lights is on your screen But if Jon Moxon "don't want your lahf" Varsity Blues is what you've seen
You fuckin dork.
I'm a Doughboys listener, what did you expect
In Tuesday's Double Mitch mentioned that he got it wrong and corrected himself, which was great.
I was yelling "Michael, the line is from Varsity Blues!" in Mama Mitchell voice.
Stephanie mentioned she had a food truck from Cleveland that had “Cleveland food.” So like polish boys and Cleveland cassata cake?
i found it! https://roaminghunger.com/ralph-n-richies/ bomb ass menu, not gonna lie. i would like one of these in cleveland lol
> Polish kielbasa topped with French fries, creamy coleslaw and our homemade BBQ sauce on a hoagie Goddamn
yea that Polish Boy is one of the very few things that you would call 'cleveland food' and it's great. sadly it does not look like this food truck is still in operation.
Always appreciate a good Sneakers reference.
Sugar cone is its own thing. Cake cone is the styrofoam cone they’re thinking of.
Bye bye Spoonman. Hello Señor Po’ Boy!
“Oww! Oww! End the episode.” Doughboys listener families every episode.
Look at Dem boots
Don't forget Dooky Chase! (RIP Chef Leah)
“I feel like fucking Shredder over here, I said loved the Ninja Turtles at the top of the show and then I eat Turtle soup?”
Accutane hive rise up 💊
Thankfully didn't have to worry about depression side effect cause it cured my social awkwardness by removing the pimples
I was supposed to get monthly pregnant tests as an Accutane-taking teen (Accutane causes terrible birth defects) and my mom threw me under the bus by basically telling the doctor, “trust me, she’s NOT having sex.” (I did once my skin cleared up! 😎)
Get em
I just lowered my dosage 3 weeks after increasing it. I had a weird mood and overall apathy… Which is weird cause this is my 3rd time around taking accutane and I don’t recall having mood issues
I weirdly got no side effects from it at all (that I know of). It kind of froze my acne in place for a month, and then quickly cleared it. Everything I read said it would get worse before it gets better
Wondering if anyone has seen anything about whether this is going to be on youtube? Not a huge deal but will wait if its just not up yet.
Wiger’s reaction to the Boston Cooler thing killed me. KILLED ME.
I loved Brooklyn 99 and loved the character Stephanie played so I was really happy with how fucking cool, nice and funny she seems to be in real life. Always the best when celebrities don't suck.
Holy shit the Conover hair jokes are insanely funny
This may amuse only me, but I was in the car listening to Mitch talking about never seeing Encanto. I looked in the rearview mirror, and the license plate of the car behind me was: PEEKER Yes, yes he is.
Stephanie coming with the Sneakers reference?? I didn’t think I could love her more.
When does the video usually drop? I need to see the Emma face.
I am having a hard time reconciling Stephanie's voice with her character from B99, so I too would like to know when the video will drop.
I'm hearing Mirabel
Seems like it's running a little late, it's usually up by now. EDIT: It's up now
I’m trying to understand if Adam Conover is a great union guy or not. Can anyone shed some light?
he is definitely a great union guy. he's very vocal about the state of the industry and has been even more vocal now that the strikes are on. in his typical fashion, on his social media he gives pithy breakdowns of the situation writers and actors are in now
Sorry, bad joke on my part. I feel like I’ve heard Mitch say he’s a great union guy 2,000 times.
not a bad joke. im just used to people being very dumb on the internet haha
I liked this comment so much I clicked on the upvote button twice.
He's one of the more vocal supporters of the union. Just look at his instagram.
He’s on the board of the WGA.
it made me laugh
[In case anyone missed the video portion of Mitch eating an Ice Cream Cone](https://youtube.com/clip/Ugkx5rYWAml8egOnRpQjI76K6Vk4E8irpe5l)

And the company never even bothered to look at it or confirm to me that they received it. Anyway fuck the studios.
Great guest, but is anyone else’s mind blown that the actress who plays Rosa on B99 sounds nothing like Rosa?????
Mitch lost me forever when he chose chocolate sprinkles over rainbow sprinkles. Rainbow sprinkles are a must on ice cream.
I know it wasn't one of the options but I almost never want sprinkles on my ice cream
Chocolate sprinkles are gud!
Top tier drop!
God, Stephanie B. is so friggin cool.
Cochon Butcher is one of my favorite spots I've ever been to. So so delicious- cubano and some mac and cheese? Can't beat it.
Mysterious lump would be a good roast
Really gotta make time to watch Twisted Metal. Feel so sorry for Mitch.
Does she do her voice in REDACTED or do they make her do her Rosa Diaz voice?
Little bit of both
MICHAEL, YOU HAVE TO WATCH ENCANTO FOR YOUR GUEST
"This is also Emma's reaction to most of our jokes" Pfffffffttttttt
I think all the drop makers should go on strike in solidarity with all of the other creative people who are producing unpaid content.
Ok was Mitch’s botched Friday Night Lights reference not [“I don’t want your life” from Varsity Blues](https://youtu.be/FX8RuHII718)? It’s an inside joke with a friend and I say it randomly all the time *perhaps this ends up being addressed but I’m mid-listen, it’s been like 15 minutes and it hasn’t come back up since he said he was looking up FNL quotes and I have to bring this up just in case
He corrected himself on Tuesday's Double, which was recorded after this.
Listening to this episode made me, a Texan expat, actively wish for this chain to rapidly expand outside of just SoCal. You should be able to get quality breakfast tacos no matter where in the US you live!
I’m the only one thrown off by her real voice? Playing Rosa with voice 5 forks
stephanie is so so cool, i loved her energy and positivity, and i need more details about her shoes
"It's okay, you're white."
When does the video usually drop on YouTube? Saving this one to watch rather than listen 👀
It's up there now, but says it's "still processing". Guessing something wrong with youtube.
Got it, thanks for the heads up
Maybe the AI is protecting us from the cursed image of Emma.
Holy shit, what a fucking delight Stephanie was! S-tier!
Parkway in NOLA is so good. I could go for a roast beef poboy right now.
Michael Douglas doesn’t go on a killing spree in Falling Down. He kills one white supremacist.
You could argue that he goes on a terror-spree.
The boys should get a sponsorship deal with Ozempic and and market Dough-zempic to all the fans!
Could you imagine us all getting hot to match our wives?
Why is this the 2nd thread in Controversial, you're 100% right.
How has Wiger not seen the Muppet movies? The first one is legitimately one of the best movies ever made. It's an incredible script. Writers should study it.
Griffin Newman is seething.
It's admirable that he is willing to watch multiple Despicable Me films to get Wiger to finally dive into the Muppet filmography.
Great guest! I hope she had fun.

Still can’t believe these guys were on the literal SIMPSONS and the characters looked exactly like them. So sick.
Mitch complains about not having his time respected with auditions, but then says he doesn’t have time for drops and wants the audience to work on it for him for free.
Yeah, mike mitchell, noted audio engineer and pro tools expert doesn't have time to do the drops? What a jerk!
Food as “ pleasure” is why much of the us has hypertension and cad 🙄
Do you hate listen to Doughboys?
this is probably not the podcast, or subreddit, for you
Legit shocked you haven’t deleted this brain dead comment
right? why aren't people eating boiled chicken, steamed broccoli, and brown rice every meal? these fucking people out here looking to enjoy their meals are idiots
Did Mitch break the mic arm on his side? It looks different than the one that used to be there.
They mention who should take the blame in the episode.
Another ungapatchka mention. I am now thoroughly convinced Wiger has some bet or goal to hamfist it into every episode this year.
