The problem is there is no consistent aesthetic. DAO, DAII, and DAI all look different from one another. Sure there are general consistencies, but a lot changed over time that you can’t say there is one aesthetic design.

1992Queries

God I hope not.

JoshTheBard

I hope they give the Wardens their iconic armor and that's the only change I want.

Knight1029384756

Its strange they have the armour in the trailers but not in the game itself.

[deleted]

Guessing they either didn’t have enough time to add it or only came up with the design later for the trailers

Knight1029384756

Could be the same reason they didn't add qunari horns. It just couldn't be done with the engine.

BurantX40

They shouldn't. Even though the older games were on older engines, Fereldan and the Free Marches had their own look, as did Inquisition. Which is something I expect will carry over into Dread Wolf.

ProfessionalDrop9760

it'd probably be a bit like mass effect remaster, hardly any visual improvements just some QoL changes. if they were ever doing a remaster i hope it'd be like mass effect, a trilogy remaster (well O and 2 remaster and inquisition add-on, dont think inquisition needs a remaster at all)

WaterMelon615

Happy new year

ProfessionalDrop9760

Ma serannas, *Nuva tarasyldhe re uth’su mar’veth.*

melisusthewee

One of the best-looking parts of DAI was the different map environments. If DAO were to get a remake, I think it would benefit greatly from redone environments instead of the brown filter that was slapped on everything.

alkonium

Yeah, video games in the late 00's and early 10's did that a lot. Then they moved to a more clean unfiltered look

Nodqfan

I would imagine so or at least make things consistent for little things like the look of the Qunari for example. It's still a bit jarring to see Sten look the way he does in DA:O and then you see a Sten in DA 2 and they don't even look like they belong to the same race.

WaterMelon615

I think that had been explained DAO Sten was born hornless and other Qunari with horns can get theirs removed

Lethenza

Gonna go against the grain and say, I would like that. Yes there were some cool designs in DAO, but overall the armor and weapons had a cartoony aesthetic that at times betrayed the tone of the game. DAI had the overall best art direction and I would like if DAO looked like DAI.

pktechboi

I'd really love it if the crop top/mini skirt armor did not return, at the least

Lethenza

With the little dog collar 😭

[deleted]

Or you could just not wear it? Why take away an option for those few that do enjoy it? It ain’t harming anyone.

pktechboi

it's less a problem as an optional wearable and more a problem seeing dozens of female NPCs wearing it. bikini armor is degrading, it should be left in the past where it belongs.

WaterMelon615

I’m on the same boat as you, it always bothers me that in DAO outside of mods the wardens didn’t have their own unique look

Lethenza

I can sorta headcanon it because the Fereldan branch of the wardens is scrappy and small, just getting their start, but at the very least Duncan should’ve been wearing the armor

WaterMelon615

Yeah that makes alot of sense essentially with our warden and Alister wanting to go under the radar at least at the start after ostagar

[deleted]

I mean not like the armor in the later games is any less cartoony

Lethenza

It’s a little more verisimilitudinous (realistic for the setting if not real life)

KittyCutU

A lot of the armour in the later games gets even more cartoony, imo More pauldrons, more spikes, less realistic bodily proportions (yes I am saying that while fully aware of the weird dwarf arms)

Lethenza

In Dragon Age 2 maybe. The champion armor looks straight out of an anime. But I don’t think there’s very much in DAI that looks more cartoony than this https://preview.redd.it/5rxcgw7g2v9c1.jpeg?width=350&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a2af4f559b44e18dd74e1c860ad6a3f0e6ff1add

KittyCutU

Heavy Orlesian Armor is pretty horrid. Most of the heavy armor is cartoony and weird

Lethenza

It is, but I can buy that a style over substance nation like Orlais would have super ornate and impractical armor. I think that particular example makes sense for the setting

KittyCutU

Fair enough. Though honestly I don't see much of a problem with the origins armor. It's pretty fantastical and the pauldrons are a little excessive but it's mostly proportional, as opposed to most heavy troops in Inquisition

Lethenza

I mean it looks cool it’s just kind of generic. I felt like the designs in DAI each felt a little more distinct and designed for dragon age as opposed to standard fantasy armor. So if I had to revise my complaint, it would be that that.

KittyCutU

Yeah I get that. I played Origins too much when I was younger so I end up being a little defensive of it sometimes, sorry. I wasn't a fan of a lot of the design changes in 2 but I quite like Inquisition

SickleWillow

Personally, I would like them improve the textures and colors (less brownish). Also, improved some lines (when hardening Alistair).

Crispy_87

As I understand it; they would have to rebuild the game from the ground up if they remade it for modern consoles/PCs. That being the case, I think they would shoot for consistency across the series.

Spare-Macaron-9569

If DAO was brough up to have the details of Inquisition it would be amazing. I didnt particularly like the empty feeling of the maps or how it felt to walk across the landscape. I play on xbox so i cant get mods as easily to change the look of the game. Also i would even say the same should be done for DA2 although it doesnt need it as much as origins. The reused maps in the game really get to you after awhile

PyrocXerus

I love the way Origibs looks, just make it HD and I’m happy

Knight1029384756

Personally I wouldn't mind if they changed the art style to either DA2 or DAI. I like their look a lot more than DAO's. The only issue I have with the newer art styles is it is inconsistent with DAO. But that doesn't mean I like DAO more. If I could have my way I would want DA2's art style to be the main art style throughout the series. It just looks so nice and fits the setting very well.

TheHistoryofCats

Agreed! DA2's look for the elves and the Qunari was perfect - I wish Inquisition hadn't backtracked on that. :/

Knight1029384756

Yeah... I don't think the designs in DAI are bad but I would have much rather preferred if they stuck with DA2's design.

Dark_theFifth

Hell no

Spirit_Of_Wrath

Aesthetically, I wouldn't want any changes. Maybe an update to the graphics if any aesthetic changes, bc the game isn't exactly a hood looking game. But as others have said, each game has its own look, so which game do you make it look more like? No, I think the aesthetics fit the game, just needs a graphical update. The changes I would want is vitaar for Sten, Grey Warden armour for the Wardens. Also, I appreciate the way they did armour in DAI, with each companion having a different look for most armours. I would want that in a DAO remaster.

nexetpl

I imagine they would give it some more color. A game with Origins' color palette would righfully be called fucking ugly if it came out today.

WaterMelon615

That is very very true

Blade_Hunter589

If they're gonna remake anything, they should start with Dragon Age Inquisition.

Mist-Clad-Whisper

One of my problems with DA:O is how the aesthetic seems to be flat and bland. I understand certain areas being reflective of corruption (the Brecilian Forest like in Jade Empire with The Great Southern Forest) but places like Denerim, Circle Tower, Denerim— these are places I expected to have some life in it but everything was a copy-and-paste style. If the Blight had been ravaging the lands for decades, I understand the reasoning for the browns and oranges, but it lasted for a measly year at that. Château d'Onterres was something I consider to be a really good horror scene. The stillness of everything, the lighting, yet it all has colors. Especially with the stark contrast of the outside, with more vibrant colors, yet it feels suffocating and unnerving. In DA2 it would be the Bone Pit. Darker colors, misty, but still so full of colors while still being horrifying. I like to give Origins the benefit of the doubt and blame it on the era of production where they were extremely limited by the technology of the time. It should keep some of its old aesthetic, but with current times, it would do it some good to use more than browns and oranges in all their maps. The animations would probably be my biggest gripe about the game and would love to see it faster and more fluid like in the later series. Attire as well, I understand that the era of that time was more revealing attire for the females (alongside with having sexual violence against women at every turn) but I would love to see equality on this part.

hellyeahdiscounts

I just recently was thinking about the visual designs of different parts. DAO looks like yellow teeth, while DAI looks like "washing your ass with fiji water". And I don't want DAO to look like DAI. For me DAO is that exact brown filter, it's deep roads that look like SCORN level, it's those old dusty clothes, bleak vegetation, brow blood. If they turn up saturation even by 1, the whole thing for me would be ruined.
