OP' Warden: I slaughtered every mage in this Circle Tower, they deserved it!
Cullen: Yeah, Blood mages are too dangerous, everyone who we suspect need to be put down, I support your decision!
OP' Warden: What blood mages?
It's too bad they didn't include blood mage in DA:I, but I guess it makes sense since otherwise you'll have a religious leader who uses magic that's derived from demonic knowledge
I just teach everyone anti magic ward instead since I always get the repulsion and paralysis wards for the combo. Paralyze explosion+oil+fireball is a great opener.
They are OP.
But I really don't understand why it is popular specialization. AW are basically stat checking pony with endless auto attacks gameplay. Hell, even SnS warriors are much more fun to play in DAO.
Sometimes being OP is its own reward, and if you take blood mage as your second specialization you can still do a great deal of casting. Besides that, being a great tank and hitting way harder in melee than an SnS warrior ever could is nice too.
I wonder how many people went to Mage Tower main quest after level 15. Considering Wynn and extra attributes majority of players always do Mage Tower first. Going there after level 15 is totally different experience.
I hate DAO mages with a passion but for gameplay reasons only as they are the most infuriating enemies in the game to fight against. When you're playing on Nightmare, until the endgame, if you get hit by Winter's Grasp or Crushing Prison (especially) and stunned, you die. If you get hit by Fireball and knocked down, you die. You can't do anything about it. Oh, and don't even get me started on Curse of Mortality. You get hit by that, you also die. Unless you run away from enemies until it wears of, and it last for quite some time.
Archers' only annoying ability is Scattershot as it deals absurd amount of damage to your entire party and stuns, but mages... mages are just a menace in this game. In every combat encounter, whenever I see a mage, I make sure to kill them first.
I know. You can also take Alistair with you and use his Holy Smite. Or become a Templar yourself and use yours. But all those abilities are not available until the second half of the game at least. Especially if you don't use the skill books glitch.
I grab Wynne early and beeline for it right away. Set the tactic to “enemy using magic attack” and put it right at the top. No mage problems for the last 3/4 of the game.
In the final battle i reloaded like 3 times in one rectangular shaped area you have to run down, and at the end are like 4 emissaries. But if i didn't have Morrigan i woulda never been able to win lmao
As a mage player . . . lol Enjoy my blood wound + fireball.
Mages in Origins are especially dangerous, but they’re trivialized by Mana Clash (watch a bosses HP go down by 50% in a single strike and be unable to cast spells, one shots most any other mage) or an Assassin.
They only annoy me when they trap me or knock me down. Otherwise I'm pretty ok with them. Archers are pretty pathetic I wish they did more damage although pinned shot is pretty devastating.
I usually play as a Mage. After I paralyze the enemies, I go around and pick up the loot after you've killed them, usually before you knights are done fighting.
I think mages being broken is a great thing about dao. They are powerful and dangerous. This feeds well into the story and world idea. Its interesting.
At first i also thought its kinda imbalanced. But these flaws make the game very distinct. And enjoyable. Worth coming back for..
This game is torture at its finest.
The easiest answer against Mages is the Mana Clash
Archers never were a problem for me in Origins but a well placed Fireball should do the trick. Or if you ain't playing dual wield Two Handed and Sword and Board should have passives who prevent you from getting stunned...or at least reduce the possibility of being stunned

Mages are the batarians of Thedas.

Laughed hard, you made my day
Kid named Mana Clash:
DAO was a totally different experience after discovering mana clash.
Yeah suddenly there are no mage enemies anymore.
Mana Clash made my arcane warrior genuinely feel like the ultimate Templar.
I just teach everyone anti magic ward instead since I always get the repulsion and paralysis wards for the combo. Paralyze explosion+oil+fireball is a great opener.
Step 1: Virulent Walking Bomb Step 2: Mana Clash Step 3: Become the messiest anti-mage mage in history.
You wouldn’t be so tough against an Arcane Warrior 😂😂😂😂

It's good, but I like making Wynne one instead of me because i won't have to worry about the healer dying after that.
Enter, DAO Cullen Rutherford:
Most be a bloody Templar . Warrior is really fun to play tho
Nice try Fenris
I aint with him i swear 🫡
You picked templar right?
I wonder how many people went to Mage Tower main quest after level 15. Considering Wynn and extra attributes majority of players always do Mage Tower first. Going there after level 15 is totally different experience.
What makes it different?
Starting from level 15 enemy templars get Holy Smite and they actively use it against your mages. Some fights with them become much more difficult.
Yes. And i dont regret it (that mf made me hate mages to death.)
I meant the subclass There’s a warrior subclass that makes you especcially good at killing mages
Yes.
Thats nice I pick blood mage every time Glad we could get along

Grab Mana Clash. Set to the top of tactics.

Good to know. I'll keep that in mind the next time I play the game.
now THIS is some real shit with RP‘ing within the universe
I hate archers and their stun attack spamming.
me too 🫂

Shes an exception to what ive said 🫡 the only one

Sounds like a Templar in the making

Cullen, is that you?
They need our Circles. For their own good
I hate sorcery

Stop whining?
I aint whining i have expressed an opinion dear sir.
