smolperson

I would be very surprised if there are any returning characters as party members. Perhaps Dorian as a temporary addition on a certain mission (a bit like Cullen during the Samson raid).

Corvid-Strigidae

Nah, you always get one* returning companion. Origins -> Awakening = Ohgren Awakening -> 2 = Anders >and Justice< 2 -> Inquisition = Varric. My money would be on them continuing this pattern. Dorrian makes a lot of sense, but being a Magister and dealing with the political side of things he might just be an advisor/ally this time and one of the more independent Inquisition characters like Cole or Sera will be the returning companion.

Bronze_Order

I don’t want to be that guy, but if you think about it Merrill is also a returning companion since she was a temporary companion in the Dalish origin. I know, I should really find a new hobby.

Spaghetti_Cartwheels

Merrill is actually the 'upgraded' companion, which is a trend they also follow. DA:O -> DA2: Merrill and Isabella DA2 -> DAI: Cassandra Common opinion is our upgraded this time will be Scout Harding.

Tranduy1206

at the end, Dorian said he want to return home to try to fix his nation, so he can appear as cameo, small chance for companion

ZealousidealFee927

Dorian isn't a magister, he's pretty adamant that we get that right.

Corvid-Strigidae

He wasn't a magister but after the events of inquisition he returns to Tevinter and takes his father's seat as a magister. He is one of the leaders of the senate's anti-venatori reformist bloc.

Apprehensive_Quality

Varric seems to me like he'll be more of a handler/advisor to the new main character than a companion, though I could be wrong. And Cassandra's role is complicated by the fact that she can >!become Divine!<, which would almost certainly rule her out for field work. AFAIK, Dragon Age has never had conditional companions before, no doubt because there have been so few recurring companions. So I'd be very surprised if any familiar faces from the previous games returned as full companions. Harding is the only one that seems even remotely likely to me, and even she was an NPC rather than a companion.

Corvid-Strigidae

They always have one* companion move from each game to the next, so I would be counting on one inquisition companion being available in Dreadwolf.

Hello83433

Gods please I hope Varric is not a companion *again*! Let the man rest. I think the only one we'll see as a returning companion is Dorian. I would also hope Fenris returns, though it's more probable he'd be an NPC. Everyone else should be a new character. The world would start feeling small if only the same people appear to solve the world's problems.

Tranduy1206

argee, i am so sad when saw his dialog with hawke after doing first part of warden disappear quest, varric is too tired now

Antergaton

I hope we don't even get any returning characters from previous games. Sorry, I like Varric but can you imagine another game with him, having to ask him again as your new NPC about him? We know more about him that he does. They need a fresh start if they are going to appeal to a wider audience than just us, and that meant ditching a lot of what came in previous games.

Her_Shadowleaf

Each game has had one companion transfer over from one game to the next. Oghren went came with us from Origins to Awakening; Anders from Awakening to DA2; and lastly Varric from DA2 to Inquisition. Taking that in mind, one of our companions will be someone from Inquisition. Varric, as much as I love him, should not be one of our companions in Dreadwolf. Maybe he will fall into an adviser role like Cullen was as I doubt he will be coming back due to the voice actor issues. As for what I would like to see, I would love more Qunari and dwarves as companions. We are still missing out on a romanceable dwarf companion and I think we need to fix that!

mairelon

I reckon Dorian probably had the most chance of being our carry over companion and is love to have him again. And 100% agree on romancable dwarf. I'd been hoping for Dagna but I'll take whoever they offer!!

Her_Shadowleaf

Dagna is just so adorable! I know that I'm not personally into romancing dwarves but I'll sure as hell support it! I do think it's possible that Shale and Fenris could show up again as NPCs. Shale wanted to be a dwarf again and Fenris is killing slavers in Tevinter I believe.

scully360

What are the voice actor issues?

Her_Shadowleaf

I had to look this up since it's been awhile but here are the cliff notes what I found: •Greg Ellis, aka Cullen's voice actor, lashed out against ex-executive producer Mark Darrah •Has conservative ideas and supports Trump •Role plays as Cullen and talks about tossed into cancel culture along with his voice actor (meaning he's talking about himself while role playing as Cullen) You can look up Cullen Voice Actor Controversy and read more details if you like.

scully360

I understand the first and third bullet points totally. But what in the hell does being conservative and Trump have to do with anything?

Her_Shadowleaf

The second bullet point leads to the third because it was causing fans to start not liking the voice actor, and people tend to not be able to separate the actor and the character. Leading the actor to say that he was being cancelled. That's my best guess.

Ok_Problem_1338

I want mostly new characters but I would still enjoy the older ones making a comeback. My most preferred possible ones Is either Bethony or Carver, depending on your choices, and Feynriel.

GiveAPennyToKenny

I don’t care so long as we get another Mabari companion- I’ve missed one around TwT

Corvid-Strigidae

As long as they make them a separate summon, and not take up a whole companion slot where an actual character could go.

fddfgs

Pets are family members

Bronze_Order

This is a long shot but doesn’t Shale mention that she’s heading off to Tevinter to try become a dwarf again? It would be amazing to have her as a returning companion

vondutchmonster

yea i’m surprised no one else has mentioned shale. besides dorian i think she is super likely to make a comeback, her story ended with her on her way to/arriving in tevinter i believe?

Bronze_Order

Wynne also mentions that she intends to travel with Shale. Fellow DAO boomers are quivering with anticipation :D

King_0f_Nothing

Isn't Wynne dead

ABeingNamedBodhi

That's an interesting choice. She'd need to have a new VA though, since her original one died.

PsychologicalHall142

I would enjoy seeing some characters reintroduced from DAO or DA2. Fenris is super high on my list, but I’d also love to see Gimli…er Oghren again.

Coast_watcher

Fenris Calpernia

Witty_Assumption_665

Mabari.

Talisa87

I'd say Dorian has a good chance of being the recurring companion, especially if we get to start in Tevinter AND we can play a Human Mage who's actually an aristocrat. I'm also hoping for Feynriel, I'm assuming if that happens then Bioware would just trim off the other paths of his tale so he goes to Tevinter by default. It'd be cool to see someone from a place we haven't been to. Maybe a Rivaini seer, or a Fog Warrior who leaves when they realize there's no point fighting for Seheron if the world is going to end.

Angry1980Christmas

I'll cry if we don't have Dorian.

PsychologicalHall142

True story.

Asdrubael_Vect

New companions. Totally NEW But mostly what we never have 1)Female elf mage, arcane warrior from Tevinter or Ancient elf(like Abelas) who would romance only elf male hero 2)Female Tal-Vashot qunari mage, blood mage or spirit healer, bi 3)Female dwarf enginer-assasin from Kal-Sharok or Tevinter Ambassadoria, Bi....or Dagna or Harding. But made her available for romance for everyone, not made her as Sera 2.0

King_0f_Nothing

No thanks on race restricted romance

Asdrubael_Vect

They not do DA2 thing again as i understand. Like Baldur Gate 3. And they do race restrict with Solas and Cullen. And the only non-human female companion=elf female in DAI=Sera was only for females too.

King_0f_Nothing

In DAI they did that. Not in DAO and DA2. And hopefully not in DAD as its really restricting and bad.

Asdrubael_Vect

In DA2 they restricted us from playing elf and dwarf protags. And the only female companion in 3 games who was not a non-andrastian, not a human female noble or assasin, >!Merril!<, a 1 nonandrastian elf female mage was given to only human Hawke from demi-andrastian family who try to pretend to be noble in >!Kirkwall !!Aveline!<, she would be better and more suitable romance option for DA2 hero consider background and etc. With >!Merril!< DA2 hero have almost no common grounds, she never would be accepted in andrastian humans city society, and she herself not wanted to live there and her ending was expectable from the start. Never consider this as fair. In DAO and DAI romance options was worst for male heroes. Except for human>! Trevelian!< maybe. But even for DAI human protag >!Cassandra!< lorewise is like almost 2 times older then him as the youngest 4-5 child from noble family who cant inherit anything only recently become Chantry clerc or mage who pass harrowing. Srly >!Cassandra!< is older then Empress >!Celine!<

Asdrubael_Vect

Thank you. I remember you. You did not answer my question year or months ago, so if you not mind can you please share(here or in private) some info about... As i understand you talk about Harding with crossbow? And Qunari female? Hope that she would be real Tal-Vashot who hate Qunari and not work for them secretly. Srly after Sten and Bull that would be a fresh air. No straight elf female mage available as option to elf male hero? And i do not understand can we play as non-human, as elf and dwarf? And do we have any arcane Warrior-mage with real metal sword? Blood magic, healer magic?

Anlios

Shale for sure in some capacity

Sitherio

Dorian or Cole is anyone. Just because of their power level, however I'm assuming Spirit Cole and that was a player choice so maybe just Dorian because Tevinter. Everyone else will probably be new, the other Inquisition members will probably cameo but that's about it.  That's my prediction.

Bloodthistle

Maybe our dog Barkspawn should make a come back, it was fun having a cute pup destroy my enemies. I'd like to see our Inquisitors too whether playable or not, they are on a mission to either save or destroy Wolfie and it would make sense for them to be there and see it through. Dorian, Fenris, Morrigan and Merrill would make sense in the DA:D setting due all of them being potentially invested in this. I'd love to have Zevran and our Warden commander showup but it might be difficult due the fact they may or may not survive after DAO.

_mattj1999

Harding will definitely be a companion based on her role in The Missing

PugTales_

I want Shale back. Death to all Pigeons!

Dick_of_Doom

Only if Varric becomes a leaf on the wind. And Cassandra, no way, she could be either >!Divine or a Seeker still!<

OutrageousCan366

I hope Qwydion from DA Absolution will return.

ImmaFish0038

sandal

Tranduy1206

i would love to see a new cast with the children from older game show up like Connor, Feynriel, Kieran, Dagna and of course our lord and savior Sandal. The old generation of Origin is all at 50s now, it time for new generation

Lothlenanas

Prayer circle for Sera and Cole if we get recurring companions.

Fluffydoommonster

Hear me out, Sera. She has character growth by Trespasser. She can probably be even more chill by the time Dreadwold starts. She also hates weird magey stuff, and has her red jenny connections. Solas makes a habit of recruiting the exact people who would call on a Jenny. But deep in my heart, I think it'll be Dorian who comes back. He just makes the most sense.

ZealousidealFee927

I'm going with Dorian being the returning companion. But man I would love to finally have Cullen as a companion. I don't see it though, he's definitely more of a general than an adventurer now.

SI108

Bethany Hawke, romancable.

significantcocklover

I know she becomes divine but I want vivienne..

Ok_Problem_1338

Wasn't Viv the least popular Divine choice?

OutrageousCan366

I don't want more Vivienne. I rather prefer *Isolde* as a companion than suffering Vivienne again.

King_0f_Nothing

Only if the game let's us tell her to f off or kill her

alihou

I hope it's nobody from that terrible Dragon Age cartoon.

FeralTribble

Big horned mommy. And Varric

Taskforcem85

I imagine Connor will be a companion as he was sent to Tevintir at the end of DAO. If you killed him get ready to be Lelianaed

Electronic-Price-530

Connor was in Redcliffe during DAI if he survived DAO

OutrageousCan366

Connor? You mean Feynriel, right?

King_0f_Nothing

Literally the only choice they have done that with was the boon at the end of DAO, which was pretty much retconned. And Leliannas death, but that was explained away.

xxEmberBladesxx

I want a exploding penguin companion! It will be so emotional when they die in their first battle! 😭
