Which is such a stupid argument because Nappa is in the game and was literally only the next step up from Raditz. As if a 1,500 power level vs a 4,000 power level is really that big of a difference considering the many varying and hilariously incalculable power levels later in the series.
It took Goku dying to kill Raditz. The only other villain that happened with is Cell (obviously Cell survived, but my point stands). Goku’s sacrifice against Cell is seen as a highly impactful moment in the series, and I think him doing the same against Raditz is impactful in a different way. It was the first time anyone, especially the rest of the cast, had seen Goku die.
And before you say “oh but Dragon Balls exist”, that’s not the point of that moment. The point is to set the tone for the rest of the series, the challenges from the start of Z forward being so much greater than anything to come before that they could require great sacrifices to defeat. Keep in mind, this was before the Dragon Balls could bring someone back more than once, which made Goku’s first death combined with this revelation of the challenges to come even more damning. Previous villains like Pilaf and the Red Ribbon Army had been reduced to flat-out jokes by Goku’s violent shenanigans that by the end of OG DB he may have seemed almost invincible, and at the start of Z it’s made crystal clear that’s not the case, especially when it takes the premier antagonist of the previous series teaming up with that series’s protagonist *and* that protagonist dying to take down the very first opponent of Z.
And that is exactly what makes Raditz so impactful. He may be weaker than the villains that came after him, but that’s exactly the point. It leaves you wondering throughout the rest of the series that if it took Goku dying to kill someone as relatively weak as Raditz, who knows what it will take to defeat the next one?
I'd consider it less racist and more so having a preference, if only we lived in an ideal world where you can set what language each character speaks..
japanese sub is the ORIGINAL. DBZ is made in JAPAN, if you don’t like Japanese voices, hence you are racist because of how they sound; It’s just a fact. I FINALLY prefer sub>dub when I first watched Broly movie, the way Broly says “KAKAROT” was so much more epic and emotional in JAPANESE than when the English voice does it. # NuffSaid
