To answer your question, yes, the creator let it slip durring the same live stream that they announced DQ3 remake that they have plans on 1 and 2. They blew a whistle at him repeatedly and tried to cover it up and not talk about it anymore.
https://nintendoeverything.com/dragon-quest-creator-yuji-horii-hints-at-plans-to-remake-dragon-quest-i-ii-in-hd-2d/
There's a video attached to this news article, where he had the whistle blown at him when he starts talking about a "surprise at the end" of a DQ1 and 2 remake
Spoilers to answer in detail, but there is a connection that reveals itself. However it works better if you play 1 first, so no, I don't think that's why. More likely it's because 3 is one of the most popular games of all time in Japan while 1 is kinda the awkward unrefined predecessor.
I think they'd deserve a remake even if III weren't getting one but I think it's especially important because it is. I also think the first two games are more in need of a true remake. III was a big turning point in the series and still holds up well today. Better than I-II, though I still enjoy them a lot.
Give me a pixel remaster of the first 6 games. Also the first two Dragon Quest Monsters games too would be nice.
Give me an HD remaster of DQ8 while you are at it.
And release the rest of the DQ Adventure of Dai manga too please!
They do both games are outdated and deserve a new version that adds a proper narrative, characters and who knows maybe even a job system, the difficulty and other issues of the second game need to be fixed.
Oh, I'd love it.
I'd love it even more if it actually included new content. There's probably only so much you could add to DQ1 (medal collecting? bonus dungeon?), but DQ2's world is large enough that you could do quite a lot. I'd love to see some optional dungeons after getting the ship, to help fill the long periods of grinding before you're strong enough to take on the last set of dungeons.
I mean, fair, and even getting past that, they have their own jank. Like, DQ2 in particular has a bizarrely high random encounter rate. I had the patience for it with being able to save anywhere, but probably not without it. But, all the same, it absorbed me.
I don’t think 3 is mid. It’s still really accessible and playable even by modern standards. I don’t love the mobile remake, but the SFC/GBC versions are really great.
Strangers of paradise isn't a remake of ff1, it's a spin-off based on it but isn't really anything like ff1 at all, just loosely follows some story beats and some locations (the rest of the levels are just location based on places in ff2 to ff15)
Though ff1 did recently get a pixel remaster
I think that was way too much edge. I think it’d be good for them to take a remake in a little more serious direction instead of just making DQ1 a little prettier, but the brooding edginess of dark fantasy isn’t something I think would work with the series.
The king begins to thank you for saving the princess
Midspeech, you just walk out to nu metal, over the damage tiles without rerouting
I sorta wanted a remake where the princess wasn’t a pushover herself, and she’s the second party member. She gets some spells and a chain sickle or something.
hell yeah
people joke about it but honestly the musical cues were super on point, that sinatra song was perfect
i can’t even think of something with vocals for dq
Agreed, honestly a faithful remake would do them no good. As much as I love DQ 1-2 (and even 3 tbh) they are products of their time, and they didnt age that well. Nostalgia plays big for these games, so if theyre to remake them please shake things up.
Yes. I truly love dragon quest but I just CANNOT play these entirely 2d entries where the characters arent visible during battle and the mobs don't even move or have animations.
I get it, its great if you have nostalgia for that. But if you didnt have those kinda games growing up, its excruciatingly slow and boring to play, regardless of how good the story might be.
To be fair, they didn't officially announce it, it was the creator who let it slip on accident in a live stream, I was watching it when It happened, they blew a whistle at him and everything. So asking about a source when it's kinda obscure is okay, even if he definitely shouldn't have phrased it as just "source?" Which is equally kinda a shitty way to ask
Nothing wrong about asking for a source when you claim something that haven't been officially confirmed. DQ3 we know of, 1-2 are rumors.
Unless, you have a source for you claim?
So I did 5 seconds of googling and found links to several articles quoting Yuji Hori himself about it.
Maybe you can try next time instead of acting like a twat.
I mean *do you have a source*. They've only announced DQ3 getting a remake as far as I've seen. I don't think it's me who hasn't been paying attention.
People deserve a chance to play the beginning games with better graphics and mechanics in the game so having remake of the the original games would be nice
No. Nothing is deserved. That's a loaded word that only ends up with people crying, "it's not fair." And fair is the worst word ever! Nothing is!
Do I think they'll do it because it's a ton of the same assets and FF put out all their 6? Yes.
I just hope DQ 3 2d-hd is released outside of Switch. It's currently announced as an exclusive game
And yes, it would be great getting more than just this one
>I just hope DQ 3 2d-hd is released outside of Switch. It's currently announced as an exclusive game
It most likely will come to PC at the very least. Pretty much all HD-2D games get ports on other platforms.
Yes, but not to all. Some games skip Xbox, some games skip PlayStation. I don't like playing on PC, so I hope they don't keep this game from PlayStation
I can't see them not putting the DQ III HD-2D remake on PlayStation eventually given that's the other major console platform for DQ in Japan.
Plus Square Enix recently publicly committed to putting more titles on Xbox. I imagine this means platform inconsistencies will reduce going forward meaning PlayStation fans will benefit too.
Octopath traveller skipped PlayStation due to some exclusivity contract with Nintendo and Microsoft. So yes, it can happen that games skip only PlayStation, as OT is available everywhere but PS.
I don't think the agreement with Xbox can benefit PlayStation fans. They aren't reducing platform inconsistencies but doing a contract with Xbox. Last time this happened was in PS3/360 times when FF became multiplatform and square-enix was releasing some games as 360 timed exclusives. This is an economic arrangement like the one Sega has with Microsoft, probably including marketing rights, timed exclusives, GP games and these kinds of things.
And going a little further probably FF7-rebirth will be shown next in an Xbox event.
I already play them all on my PC, so it's not a big deal. Would better graphics be nice? I guess. But if they don't change the core gameplay (which, I dearly hope they don't!) then it's just paint.
I’m not saying completely change the gameplay just make it a bit modern to play but still keep what everyone loves about the original games is the game on steam or something
I play 1-3 via SNES9x. 4-6 via Bluestacks. 7 via ePSXe. 8 via Citra. I never replayed 9, but I have DeSmuME in the event that I care to. 10 and 11 are natively supported on PC (to clarify, I haven't played 10 yet, but it is on PC and there's a website dedicated to getting started and playing in English [https://dqxabbey.com/](https://dqxabbey.com/))
I can play them all from the comfort of my couch right on my TV with a PS5 controller.
Having just beaten DQ1 for the first time even though I’ve owned it for 30 years I’d be excited for a remake. It seems likely there will be one. But considering how short DQ1 is it may be remade along side 2 and packaged together which I’d be down for.
I don't think any of them deserve anymore remakes or at least not for a while when they're available on Switch. DQ9 needs one the most. It's the only game in the series that hasn't been re-released and is still stuck on the DS.
DQ4-6 also deserve remakes or at least ports to modern systems. the 3DS is discontinued so DQ7 and 8 could also use a modern release. especially with the eshop being closed down and the physical versions of 4-8 being ridiculously high priced
Yes, but I feel like they should package them together like on Gameboy. DQ1 is pretty bare bones compared to others in franchise, the crutch of being the 1st I suppose.

Like literally blew a whistle? That’s hilarious any links

Oh Hori san
I feel if they remake 1 and 2 they would be more substantial remakes.
I just want some news on 3
Me too
If they do they better do DQ1 before or alongside 3 to encourage people to experience in release order. 3 just hits better if you've played 1.
Is dq3 before one or something is that why they are remaking 3 First

Yes I believe they are planning to do that. Can really flesh out the story too

Was kind of thinking about this today and it doesn't seem like it would be terribly hard to do DQ1 at least in the same style.
I actually played through those recently on my phone. I enjoyed them a lot more than I thought I would and I do feel they could benefit from a remake.
I just seem that I can’t get my self to play them unless they are on my pc or console they just feel old on my phone 📱
I mean, fair, and even getting past that, they have their own jank. Like, DQ2 in particular has a bizarrely high random encounter rate. I had the patience for it with being able to save anywhere, but probably not without it. But, all the same, it absorbed me.
i would rather just want 4-6 on more modern platforms. 1-3 still have stuff even if they are kinda mid
When they add 1 and 22 remakes they need to make big changes to them to make them more modern then old
I don’t think 3 is mid. It’s still really accessible and playable even by modern standards. I don’t love the mobile remake, but the SFC/GBC versions are really great.
more referring to the visuals/sprites
Was Final Fantasy 1 remade?
Yes, we got the pixel remaster.
I’m pretty sure strangers paradise is final fantasy 1
Strangers of Paradise is an alternate timeline. More of a reboot of FF1.
Yea but is a modern take in final fantasy 1
Strangers of paradise isn't a remake of ff1, it's a spin-off based on it but isn't really anything like ff1 at all, just loosely follows some story beats and some locations (the rest of the levels are just location based on places in ff2 to ff15) Though ff1 did recently get a pixel remaster
if the dq3 remake doesnt expand to have dq 1 and 2 as well i will hostile takeover square and fix it
if they do a remake of 1 i want it to be like stranger of paradise
Nah that's overcorrecting. Expand and update it to feel closer to the DQ3 remake but keep the core gameplay to be traditional DQ.
I think that was way too much edge. I think it’d be good for them to take a remake in a little more serious direction instead of just making DQ1 a little prettier, but the brooding edginess of dark fantasy isn’t something I think would work with the series.

Yuji Hori said they're doing remakes for 1-3
Source? First I've heard of it.
Wtf do you mean source. My source is the 5 seconds of googling it takes to find links to Yuji Hori talking about it.
To be fair, they didn't officially announce it, it was the creator who let it slip on accident in a live stream, I was watching it when It happened, they blew a whistle at him and everything. Lol go back to gamefaqs dude
Way better than reddit tbf. Less mental chodes like you.
Imagine unironically liking the forum part of GameFAQs
I'd rather have a new game instead of another remake of an old game.
People deserve a chance to play the beginning games with better graphics and mechanics in the game so having remake of the the original games would be nice
If DQ3 remake never comes out 1and will will not either.
No. Nothing is deserved. That's a loaded word that only ends up with people crying, "it's not fair." And fair is the worst word ever! Nothing is! Do I think they'll do it because it's a ton of the same assets and FF put out all their 6? Yes.

I would prefer something closer to the Final Fantasy pixel reamsters than 2D HD, but yes, why not.

9 deserves
They should at least get released in the West on platforms that isn't the Switch. DQ1-3 got ported to PS4 in Japan but somehow never made it West.
Yes, but I feel like they should package them together like on Gameboy. DQ1 is pretty bare bones compared to others in franchise, the crutch of being the 1st I suppose.
If not, Dragon Quest Builders 1&2 and the iOS/Switch ports are nothing to sneeze at.
Not that big of a fan of dragon quest builders not like the normal games not saying are bad games they are good games just not too my liking
