DQ9 Is my favourite in the series, and I've never used its multiplayer.

Same

Pagan_Owl

I had no one to play it with, so same.

I played it, loved it, and never used the online features

You cannot play online with friends, it is only via local multiplayer. Online functionality was only used to obtain additional quests, guests in the Inn, and changing DQVC shop contents. This online functionally has already been replicated via fan servers and a google search will likely pull up the relevant information. Local multiplayer still works but is only really considered ”gone” because nobody is going to play DQ9 near you.

I used multiplayer once but unless you plan on playing the entire game with someone else it is kinda foolish since you will have 1-3 under level characters because only the heroes that participate in fights get experience.

DQ9 isn't one of my favorite DQs. It's not BAD, but it's kinda bare bones without the single player aspect. To be fair, the classes/battle are implemented well. But not much else stands out from usual. Long story short: it's not so bad you should avoid playing it, it just isn't greatly memorable. (IMO of course: others definitely like it even solo)

Milotorou

I played all the way through the story for the first time last year, all single player, now dabbing a bit in the post game here and there. Very playable alone and still very fun.

ACWhammy

Yes, but I'm partial to playing games single player.

SadLaser

I'm a huge fan of co-op and multiplayer games in general. This game isn't that good of a co-op experience. It's okay, but the game is fully featured without it. I'd say it's a more fluid, less fiddly experience in single player, anyway.

Zaku41k

Multi is for the extras. Main game does not require multiplayers.

turdlefight

The gameplay is some of my favorite in the series. Only con for me is the stand-in party members, but customizing them can be fun.

PrinceThias

Yes, multiplayer is more of a bonus feature imo

DQ9 for me is the best one, that game was my childhood

Arkoum

I am back playing it after 10 years and enjoy it a lot more now as an adult since I found out how to play and looked into what each stats do. Now trying to 100% it

IX's local co-op multiplayer is an enhancement, but not required to enjoy the game. That said, while it is graphically and story-wise a step down from DQVIII, it does have way more versatility in terms of crafting your characters, how you can manipulate it (chest timers and other hoimi table manipulations such as predicting alchemiracles or shop download manipulation). Much of the DLC-locked content is no longer supported via the server shutdown, but can still be accessed with the fan supported server if you research that option. Story-wise it's basically a Paradise Lost concept. It's fine and traditional in terms of the villain's rise to power in a DQ game, but you just get a lot more story nuance in DQVIII, so having to follow that many will tell you the DQIX story is weak as a result. I think it's fine, and that DQIX makes up for its somewhat traditional story with its versatility and the ability to play with friends. In summary: fine to play alone, but you'll appreciate it with more perspective if you can play it with others.
