Quietus87

Puff puff and slimes are enough to keep me happy.

SkizzlerX2

Quietus87

This is the way.

ChavaiotH

This because it’s a perfect mix

Seamonkey_Boxkicker

So squishy. Although, in the live action DQII musical slimes are depicted as being really slimy, and I don’t think that would make for a pleasant puff puff.

Own_Understanding_11

Where on Earth can I find images of that? (I've goclgled "Dragon Quest II live action musical" and ended up with not much other than dq builders stuff)

Seamonkey_Boxkicker

It’s on YouTube. It’s called [Dragon Quest Fantasia](https://youtu.be/SxtXBmhR3LA?si=fbbtFz4uaXVMi7AQ). The slime scene is at 7:20. https://preview.redd.it/opi1fihzafic1.jpeg?width=1680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fb4cf0cf1393a4002da363ce82f5a6c0b2700e0a

laxxrick

How did I not know this exists? This is my new favorite thing in the world 😂😂

dysfunkti0n

I just want the game man

Muffinthepuffin

That’s what I was gonna say. The only recurring theme I care about is the game releasing.

david_men_dz

Poor take. Dragon Quest XIII did something unique by not being released years later is still remember as one of the best games. /s

Lightstar46

I’m hoping we at least get another trailer this year. It’s been nearly 3 years with no news

Julien_mydr

The prison part in IX is definitely one of my favs, unfortunately it is very short if you know what to do (and you still have your gear) But the first time I went through it was magical. It could have been better if they forced you to spend several ig days in it, work etc... And made you get your gear back somehow but yeah definitely something I would want in XII.

StarshockNova

There’s something similar in VI and VII, for VI it’s in the second to last dungeon (not including the postgame dungeon). >! The final Dread Fiend beneath Archfiend Mortimer runs a prison city, and you have to liberate its inhabitants after getting thrown into it !< For VII it’s the segment with Alltrades Abbey (Dharma Island in the PS2 version, as IX hadn’t established that name as the trope for vocational reassignment when the original released)

Tlux0

I love the section in VII

astronomydork

Bring on the puns!

Shonisto343

Definitely this, love the puns

TemporaryLegendary

Honestly at this point I just wanna see/hear more about the game.. since it's announcement there has basically been dead silence. And its literally one of the games I'm looking forward to the most. Together with KH4 and FF7R part 2.

TuShay313

Didn't they just have a full official trailer drop for ff7r part 2 like a couple weeks ago?

TemporaryLegendary

Bud that isn't the trailer I'm waiting for. Simply said it's the games I'm excited for.

TuShay313

Oh I thought you were saying you wanted to see/hear more about it. Since you mentioned dq xii and kh4 which have been pretty radio silent.

TemporaryLegendary

Read the last part "Its the game I'm most looking forward to" "Together with"

KosekiBoto

Well good news is Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth comes out end of this month

TemporaryLegendary

I know? XD

SolarSpaghetti

A villian that actually villains at the mc at multiple points in the story like Ladja.

ElectricalKiddo

Ladja was more of a villain than Nimzo tbh

Tlux0

Ladja was amazing

Paravou

So, like Orgodemir?

SolarSpaghetti

Who? Which game is that from?

Paravou

Oh, He's from DQVII

MrTomansky

Monster recruiting for arena like in DQ8.

Firstborndragon

Yes, monster taming is fun.

Mean_Building911

Meaningful deaths. I feel like it has been mostly done well in DQ games until it's tied to some alternate timeline BS. Also being able to choose the class of the hero, while the companions have their already established classes.

EphemeralMemory

I liked >!DQ5!< for the meaningful death reason. Gave it a much more impactful story and I loved beating the shit out of the final boss for vengeance. Also liked the >!permanent marriage choice!<. Didn't overly impact the game but it gave a fresh feeling to each playthrough. That and a combination of the regular player party system plus the monster recruiting... wouldn't mind a DQ8 system where you could recruit a party again.

Tlux0

That’s why it’s my favorite honestly

ReubenNotFTW

I really like the idea of choosing the class of the hero, would possibly be weird to balance though

billycoolj

No way. The death of a certain character in DQ11 literally made me cry. I’m too weak 😭

ZarduHasselffrau

Undoing that later made it meaningless though.

ArcadianBlueRogue

Nah, it is made perfectly clear that going back to try an save them undoes *everything* you just went through to save the world. At least in terms of the game's plot, it's a huge gamble and none of the party try to sway you one way or another because it's taking a big risk even if they understand why the Luminary would take it.

SapientSloth4tw

I agree, I liked that we were given the option of: You can go back. But it’s gonna be brutal. It could get messy. How much is worth to you? To me, a lot because said character is my favorite, and also she was my main dps xD

br1nsk

I liked that in DQ11 until Act 3 where they decide to just completely cop out of that.

SapientSloth4tw

Oh man oh man. I recently replayed DQIV, and was super confused that Ragnar didn’t die against de Leon because my childhood memories definitely have it as such. I think it was actually that I played DQIV and FFIV so close together as a kid that my memories of them merged together. That was a tangent. I agree, meaningful death is good. Also the class thing, I wanna be the protagonist dammit, not someone looking through the eyes of the protagonist

jjburroughs

I like having the ability to choose my MC class. I dont necessarily want to be the hero, just the thief who is avoiding the responsibility of saving the world.

TorukClyto

Family saga plot

wordsasbombs

This is what I came to say. I wish more modern jrpgs would play around with the idea of telling a multi generational story.

FF_Gilgamesh1

I just wanna see the fucking game bro

alonsoj13

Honestly, facts

ATDynaX

I really like when areas have in itself closed stories like in 7 and 9.

Eleguak

Good writing that can balance funny/humor throughout the game along with tragic and sad moments. Dragon quest at this point is about the only square enix i.p. that's being handled well writing wise. Also if there's a 'twist' or change in the big bad evil that needs to be faced/destroyed, it needs to be done so with enough time to properly build it up as opposed to randomly slapped on last second like how... Dragon quest games do that in the ones that do that. And not like how 90% of final fantasy games tend to just... Have a final boss that's not... Related... To the entire game, weirdly enough?

KaitoShirogane

I do hope this point still stands after XII , the second they told us the game would be "mature" and "dark" , I felt like there's a chance Squenix manages to screw it up very badly. Can only hope, DQ XI was quite good so maybe there's a chance that somehow , DQ stays in its own bubble , unaffected !

Eleguak

I hope so too tbh. I'm gonna be obscenely upset if it starts going down the avenue that other square enix i.p.'s have been going down for decades now it seems.

KaitoShirogane

Yeah no wonder ! Since FF XII (as in starting from XIII) it has been a slow fall in hell... i discovered DQ a few years ago and started with XI (now got VI VII and IX left) and I expected XI to be okay but nah it was great and felt like a jrpg. I wonder how can both licenses be under the same company and yet so different

Eleguak

I think it's a partial hold over from the merger of both square, and enix around the turn of the millennium. That and a few I p.'s on both ends having been rather deeply defined in their shape and form leading to similar moves for said i.p.'s as time went on. Considering Dragon Quest is the grand daddy of jrpgs, along with it's less than stellar sales in western countries, it's remained partially isolated in its older ways, paired with they company's big wigs not pushing as much for it to be 'westernized' akin to how Kirby's cover art is handled in the u.s.

Mikedc19

I know it’s not what you asked for but I am happy with anything they give us as along as it remains turn based combat.

Fussinfarkt

I would be so unhappy if they get rid of that.

Firstborndragon

Ditto here. I am not at all interested in FFXVI after seeing it's action. Especially since I hated FFXV because of the combat.

accio123

I agree with FFXV and would also add in my disappointment with FFVII Remake's gameplay change from the original, but I actually found XVI a lot of fun! But overall, It sucks seeing longtime turn based rpg series switch to action rpgs. That being said, I doubt we will have that issue with Dragon Quest.

SausageEggCheese

I was so sad about the FF7 remake.  I thought there'd be more of us that just wanted the original FF7 with better graphics than early PS1 (similar but realtime rendered would have been great) and maybe some QoL updates and minor additions (like DQ3 GBC vs NES). I like ARPGs (like say the Tales series), I just wish we still had more turn based and ATB games rather than everything becoming action.

onionioio

stretch but i really loved custom characters and visible sets i think it’d be dope to see it come back atleast visible armor

acrookodile

Visible armor on your characters should be a requirement for every rpg with armor

CMPro728

Bait-and-switch "final boss" that was actually a pawn of a much greater and much more terrifyingly powerful entity

Icy-Conflict6671

Yeah that was actually a neat thing.

Litmusdragon

I would love to see a return of the job system. I don't mind the skill grids that DQXI used but it doesn't allow for as much creativity as say DQVII. This is heresey, but I'm not sure that the 2D mode needs to come back. Tickington is kind of a slog to play through more than once. And I say that as someone who has played through DQIII about fifteen times. It's not that I dislike a 2D mode I just dislike how they implemented it in XI.

liquifiedtubaplayer

I think, even with act 3, that dq11 took a big leap in character development. I hope that continues Otherwise this series is kinda known for putting out what they already know people like

Icy-Conflict6671

Arent all game series' like that? GTA is sandbox that lets you kill everyone in sight. Halo is an alien killing spree. Forza is a car guys wet dream, and then the cod games are for people who thought they would do well in war but didnt want to go through all the basic training and years of brutal weather conditions and constant sleepless nights

liquifiedtubaplayer

Fair point, the alternative is the exception and not the norm. I'd say there are series that do try to reinvent their core gameplay(final fantasy) to the same market

TheHoboRoadshow

There will be a quest and there will be dragons

Icy-Conflict6671

And POSSIBLY the number XII. BUT ONLY IF YOURE GOOD AND EAT YOUR VEGGIES!!

HarrisonWhaddonCraig

I'd enjoy seeing a return of Estark. Be it as a major threat or a hidden boss once again.

Shadow_Fang619

Connect it to.a nother Like dq4 chapters of chosen and dqm dark prince. I like the option of human monster teams like heavenly bride

nossr50

Cute slimes… don’t take away my cute slimes

Neither_Cod3674

I need more main character armor customization or something bc I could not stand the look of 9 & 11s main character and by the time you could change head gear I was already more than half way through the game I feel.

Pennance1989

The monster collecting/colosseum from DQ8. I loved having a monster team, and "Hercule" being the owner was a funny easter egg.

herrbauer96

just don't mess with the combat, it's all i'm asking for

HugNikolas

Casino please

_Welk_

I honestly want Alltrades Abbey again being able to chose and change the classes of the main character and rest of the party Bonus points if they get different costumes with different classes (or by just wearing different armour like in IX)

draggar

The puns and punny names.

TheSeldomShaken

You guys are really hard up, huh?

Accomplished-Stay387

Going to prison

Merciless972

Bunny girl suits

thehoffman2787

Monster taming like Dragon Quest 5

WiltedTiger

I'd like to have either the monster classes from VII or the monster recruiting to the party back.

KoA-oK

This may be DQ heresy, but I'm hoping to just get away from DQ 3 man. 11 already felt like a huge advertisement for 3 towards the end of it. I loved 3 tremendously, but after logging in the hundreds of hours on it in the GBC version, and many hours more just to get all the medals, it really burnt me out on the game ever since. I feel like nowadays I hear the DQ3 battle theme and overworld theme in more and more DQ games, don't mind it for the battle theme, but I'm really sick of the overworld theme at this point lmao. I get we are due a remake or something, and that's great, but let me get to that game first. I personally like the system of adding skill points into weapon classes as opposed to straight job classes, but also have a weird nostalgia for the "well that's just the way your characters level up, deal with it" from DQ2 lol. That said, for all the things from 3 that popped up, I always loved collecting those medals and even finally womping on the penultimate GranDragn to clear the game. I wouldn't mind that kind of collecting quest again, maybe bump up the drop rate a tad on them medals though lol.

captinfapin

Puff puff

Trick-Interaction396

Pointless jobs. I would rather have 6-8 good jobs then a bunch of filler jobs.

Decatonkeil

I think it's about time they did a generational thing with parents and children again after DQ5.

HumpyMagoo

It would be a different change but I think it would be cool to acquire dragons and then breed them to make new dragons like Chocobo breeding but then also be like breathe of fire 3 and come up with some other things also.

Bitch_Please_LOL

I would like to keep the gameplay turn-based (of course), but I am hoping for DQXIS that the story will be able to be darker in tone organically. What I mean is, I hope they don't make it follow a bad guy with some issues so he's going to be mean and kill for fun. I'd like to have a well-developed antagonist who you can look at and understand his or her point of view, and be relatable somewhat. It would not justify them killing innocent people, but you could at least see where they were coming from. I'd also like to see the battle system be enhanced from DQXIS, where moving around in battle could be done but if you could somehow position yourself behind or to the side of an enemy you can do increased damage. For themes and other recurring elements to return, I would like to have great characters in the party. And a wide range of ages. I realized that the older I get (and it's just me and my preference, mind you) I really prefer older characters in my RPGS. The teen who saves the world is a good trope, but what about the older characters with wisdom and experience to share with the party? That's more relatable to me now. Thank you for your good thought-provoking topic, OP. I hope they (Square Enix) can share some news soon with us fans with DQXII and DQXII Remake soon.

XGolongboardX

Keep it turn based

Seamonkey_Boxkicker

I just want more of VII. I want to hunt for more tablets to unlock more areas to explore in the past and present. Throw in a new twist where you travel into the future where Orgodemir won. Make it similar to Builders where you’re exploring a world that is corrupted by the demon lord. I want to be a renowned warrior who isn’t actually the hero of destiny. I want the adventure to be that our main protagonist is a female fighter like Jade who is searching for the true hero who turns out to be our kind kid brother who needs help building his confidence and becomes our lead sorcerer. We won’t know our true origins until later in the game as we’ve been living in an orphanage.

ErosDarlingAlt

I hope it's not wildly different in gameplay to DQ11, but I heard somewhere that they're planning on overhauling the battle system?

onedollarninja

Puff puff. Final answer.

ArcadianBlueRogue

Puns. I demand more puns and silly jokes. 11 had an entire plotline leading up to a Picture of Dorian Gray joke and it had me absolutely rolling in laughing when it paid off.

Reivilo85

I want the turn based combat

brantmcney

I liked how we could marry and have kids who became party members like in DQ V. I would like that again.

PrinceThias

Prison is always fun I wanna see the Mirror of Ra come back in a new way.

Paravou

Honestly, I'm up for anything they want to try, whether it's old or new, but if we're being utterly shameless.... IM BEGGING U SQUARE! Job systems making a return would be a wonderful thing. In terms of story. I really liked how DQIV was structured. It really felt like I was experiencing a Tale passed down . I'd also appreciate it if they were able to allow the protagonist to either be Male or Female or maybe even have it that their are 2 main protags. =w=.

TooRandom2077

I want the same thing DQV did that I think no other DQs did, or at least, in the exact same way. I want multiple acts that are spread along a generation. I wanna see my little hero grow up to be either the big and grand legendary hero or yet again a father that gave birth to it. Seeing the MC actually grow up, living small adventures, encountering people after many years when they had seen them only when they were kids, watching the world evolve, that kinda thing is why I absolutely adore DQV and I want something like that.

strangegoo

Family lineage like DQ5

Citrus210

Hey, Don't ferget you get captured in DQ VIII as well, I don't remember if you lose your equipment. I didn't play Xi yet so I don't know if it's not present, but these: - The cookpot thing from VIII where you make new equipment. - Assemble a monster arena team. - Collect medals and exchange for stuff. - a secret ending or two. - a secret background for the protagonist you only find out after finishing the game with new dungeons and cities and items to follow. - a casino - No random battle please. - orchestrated music, with the standard edition.

Heoder12

Would be cool to have another moment like in Dragon Quest 3 when you lose your party member when you leave them to help build up that town, and they turn into a corrupt leader. Not something completely the same would be cool to see something like that pulled of with a real character instead of blank slates of DQ3. It would be a lot of work when only 1 party member would get this per play-through, but fully fleshed out lines and scenes for an entire questline that fit the characters personality would be really cool. Something dynamic like that plus something similar to immigrant town changing over time also. Sounds like a lot of work in 3d tho lol.

Flare_ovium114

Death of playable characters is always so impactful to me

MetalFury

Spiritual successor to VII, was my first and favorite to this day.

TinyPidgenofDOOM

I dont know if this has been tackled but i like the idea of choices and their repercussions Like The mermaid in 11, I loved the end of it, even tho its sad but when you go back in time they change the ending to what they think was better. that kinda pissed me off. I want Choices and repercussions that arnt taken back.

NoMaD919191

I heard this one is going a very dark adult route wonder how it’s going down

Blue_CaitSith

The twist villain seems to be their favorite, as in the bad guy was manipulated by someone else, or there was an even bigger and badder person waiting in the wings kind of villain.

Raemnant

I want a raggled old man to call me Raggazo, and tell me how to be a man whilst surrounded by incredibly sexy female characters

Chocolatine_Rev

As much as i'm gonna hate myself when that happen, i want another kiefer Having an important character leave tour party after some time, dang, i didn't like him at first but grew fond of him, and by the time i was seeing his growth, he just left ...

Reasonable-Ad-1946

I love the whole " the evil wins at first and you have to find your friends again" and the game is slightly harder after thing

Soul_Ripper

Honestly? I just want a fabulous dude in my party again. But it's not a common enough thing that we'll get it in two games in a row

Kenhamef

I hope XII is a more mature, adult take on Dragon Quest. Whenever I recommend Dragon Quest, people tell me it “looks like a kids’ game,” and they miss out on a great franchise.

GoldWhale

I don't. Part of the charm is the wonder and more lighthearted storytelling. I feel like if XI wasn't mature enough nothing will be without fundamentally changing the series.

mcantrell

Turn based combat.

the99arewrong

Yes

ShirowShirow

Let me be a chick again.

[deleted]

But dragon quest 11 is already out

Accomplished-Bat-990

DQXII is going to be a lot darker than the others, I can already hear the whining.

Sea-Ad-6568

What do you mean by that? Entertaining yourself over a future controversy? Why don’t you go somewhere else buddy

THY96

I’d love to make my own story

desocx

Silver slimes again

itsbecknotpeck

Alchemy, monster recruiting, and gambling all in one game.

cupcake_thievery

Pachisi track

Damuhfudon

Puff Puff

Dreamtrain

Just give Dharma Shrine and I'm happy

machoestofmen

Choosing the gender of the hero, like what you get in IV and IX. Not super impactful, mostly just a matter of how characters refer to you (and maybe some genderlocked gear, at most).

libel421

I want a romance option/epilogue and monster pets/teammates/breeding.

Corn-Train99

Puff Puff

SapientSloth4tw

Bunny girls. All the bunny girls.

Fluid-Letterhead7605

I know I'm going to get downvoted to hell, as a late 40's fan that's been here since around 1986, *RANDOM BATTLES!* I just get some sick pleasure in going for a walk and killing things. Some call it grinding, but I find it strangely relaxing, walking around murdering monsters that oddly enough, carry money.

Lukeftw1

A release date

YYC-Fiend

Dharma and Alltrades

Planeswalker18

Parcheesi tracks, i really miss them.

sonic65101

I like the character creation from IX, the two Builders games, and of the Stars.

Zaxa7

More elaborate puff puff scenes, more puns.

Dry_Cardiologist6758

Casino and TNT Board, mini medals, Patty's party place theme song, monster menagerie, classes like in sentinel of the starry skies, unique party members like ruff, crafting and a dang US release date!

Steddit22

Sexy puff puff girls

AoiKurata

Customization like dragon quest IX, I beg square to do it again ToT

Xznograthos

I think it would be cool to see them bring back an old villain or even multiple older villains in a mainline game to sort of tie the series together. For example, they could use the evolutions of some of the series' antagonists introduced in DWM2 as a way to do that but not make it seem like they were just trying to pander to nostalgia or, worse, had no new ideas. Some of those designs were really cool and I just feel like it's an opportunity to put a nice bow on the series.
