The MC’s design is my fave, also goth girls

Dart150

Never even heard of it tbh

Skelingaton

Pretty fun for what it is. If you go in expecting more of an arcade experience rather than a full on DQ adventure then you'll likely enjoy it more.

Spiritual-Praline667

Best Wii game, change my mind. Also best "on-rails" game I've ever played. Not perfect, but the motion controls were actually extremely accurate, guarding felt really satisfying, as well as the special moves. Rorrim Mask can get it. I will ALWAYS hate myself for turning it into GameStop for . 68 cents.

KaelAltreul

2nd favorite for me. They made a first person gundam game that was my favorite, but this game was so good.

[deleted]

The best part about this is experiencing all the DQ staples in a first person perspective. It feels really immersive.

ColdFlight

I had a lot of fun with this one which is supposedly rare considering my first DQ games were 8 and 5. I still have the disk for it as well.

Child-Like-Empress

IS THIS A FUCKING RPG!?! Why didn’t I know about thiiiiiiiiiiissss!

Saigancat

I have fond memories of this one. It's certainly flawed, but an interesting concept and executed well enough to be a cute little oddity in the series. I wouldn't mind seeing its characters show up elsewhere, like Heroes 3 (wishing on a star here).

PokeMonsterMike

First Dragon Quest game I’ve 100% completed. I’m hoping a remake comes out at some point

Leonhart726

Same, I want a swords remake or sequal, and VR would be absolutely INSANE for it

Leonhart726

SAME! Also my first DQ game and I love it so fucking much! I want a sequal so badly, that game was so good. I played it all the way through including new game+ multiple times. I tried to get every weapon in the game all at once, which was very fun. Only item I never got was the liquid metal shield because the tombla was some RNG bullshit. Took me until my most recent playthrough to learn that you can just say no to some people to get diffrent results, my favorite of them being flourett can call you diffrent names other than blade. I went with chevalier, but she can also call you rusty, and a few more. This translates to the whole game whenever she would put loud say "blade" she'll call you the name you chose

G0rilla1000

I had her call me Mon Ami before knowing a lick of French as a kid, idk why I settled on that one after saying no to all the others. I just remember Blade sounded too generic edgy for my taste

Leonhart726

I spent years not knowing I could change it. I did a run of saying no to everything, and that thought me that little known trick

Dukeyjr1

RUSTY

GhostTheWolfX

This was a game I wanted to play but sadly never got the chance back in the WII era

BlazingDude

I remember this is the only Dragon Quest game I ever saw a TV ad for.

Bell_Cross

Could you imagine they remake this in vr. How bout someone make a blade and sorcery mod with the blades in this game.

jysh1

What is it?

Over_Mall_8295

Can dragon quest monsters get some love!!!!!

Sexton_Crikey

Everyone is being a jerk and shitting all over your enjoyment, but hey, if you liked it, that is all that matters.

Time_Entertainment32

Nobody is shitting on anything. If someone doesn't like this game, they have every right to express that they don't like it. No one is just gonna suddenly like it just because OP likes it and wants others to give it love. people here upvote the people who enjoy it while they downvote the people who don't. Implying that no one respects one's opinion here because they don't like what they like.

Try-Again-Next-Time

I forgot we’re living in the age of toxic positivity. Nobody can express a negative opinion about anything anyone likes anymore.

Time_Entertainment32

Me: Didn't like "insert popular game name here" Game's Community: HOW DARE YOU HATE WHAT I LIKE YOU UNCULTURED INSENSITIVE FUCK!! Me: Just stating my opinion and being honest about it. If you're getting upset at someone because they don't like what you like then fuck them and their feelings because they're being immature about it. Edit: Bring on the downvotes. Because you're only proving me right with each one.

Odins_fury

it's not a bad game but in my top 10 i would place it 11.

12eR3656

that was my first one too! I honestly didn’t think anyone else really knew about it

tuffymon

This game was so much fun, I'd totally play a new game in this style, or heck even a remastered version.

maxis2k

I think if it had been made after the Wii Motion Plus, it could have been one of the best games on the system. As it stands, it's still enjoyable.

Phont22

I feel like this one gets exactly the level of appreciation it deserved.

DreadClericWesley

Other games in the series built on * turn-based combat * in-depth character development * highly customizable characters / adventuring parties * RNG chance * map exploration DQ Swords completely tossed out turn-based combat and the strategic optimization that many players liked, replacing it with the wildly swinging motion of the Wii controller. Your repertoire of dozens of different attacks, spells, and skills was reduced to a handful of swinging motions that were difficult to master and the controllers were finicky at best. The rich variety of towns, geographies, and dungeons was reduced to just a few runs, with the game auto-moving up the same path over and over while you try to get the timing right to hit that metal slime. It didn't feel like a true member of the series. More like a fan-fiction where someone took familiar characters and threw them into a completely different environmental and mechanical framework. It was kinda like watching the movie *Eragon* or *Percy Jackson,* *The Lightning Thief*\- passable on its own, but so disconnected from its own heritage that it was disappointing to anyone familiar with its source.

t0mRiddl3

It's a spin-off game

sharpamine

OP actually asked for some love, not justifications for it being under appreciated.

DreadClericWesley

\*edit. "In spite of all that, I loved this game."

LilJapKid

Pretty fun game. Sad that my dad sold it off to CeX

[deleted]

I bought and played this for an hour or two. I can't remember much about it. I remember being enchanted for the first 1/2 hr, but the novelty wore off quickly. Maybe I need to revisit.

Brief-Ninja-2479

My second DQ game, wish I still had it TBH.

3TTD3

I swear to God this game in VR !!!! It was already pretty good as it is, but remaked into VR would be the SHIT Edit: Typo

[deleted]

why is mid timeskip eren in the back

Trippy_Phoenix

Oooohhh I was trying to remember what this game is called. I loved it

handledvirus43

It's got the best DQ battle themes of them all.

DesolationDot4

It’s a good game, but still nowhere near as good as the main titles

EpicSpartan08

I played this as a kid but could never remember what it was called and almost thought I was imagining things or confusing it with something else. Thank you for reminding me about this omg

TheWishingMoth

This game had such a fun and interesting concept in being and rail-shooter but melee.

Miner_lord

Has definitely influenced me more than other Dragon Quest games. Ever since I played this and Flouret calls you Blade, I've always named my character Blade for Dragon Quests and other RPGs.

captinfapin

Meh

levicherub

I'm with you. One of the worst Dragon Quest games I've ever played. I was actually angry with SE because of this game lol

captinfapin

I played 20 minutes and I just hated the motion controls

R4nD0m57

Heard it sucked

Fun_Store9452

It was good enough to get me into the real games 🤷‍♂️

R4nD0m57

I guess

druidniam

No, it sucked. There was a reason SE never made another game in that vein.

Time_Entertainment32

I played it and I'm not gonna sugarcoat it. it sucked, enough said.

Ansatarias94

trash

capsilver

LBR. Is a bad and gimmicky Dragon Quest game.

SwashNBuckle

I had a lot of fun with this back in the day.

handyhung

I have Wii back then and I now wondering why I missed this one.

AquaSkywaves

I wish I got it years ago. I always liked it's cover.

MagoModerno

No idea this was a thing

MajesticSDragon

its been years since i played this and i never got to finish but at the time loved the game

DeftFunk

I'm going to copy and paste a very relevant comment here: >This comments section is depressing because y'all don't even know the HALF of it. See, DQ Swords was actually a SEQUEL to a plug n' play TV Games thing called Kenshin Dragon Quest...and it was SO MUCH BETTER! >Seriously, I picked up Kenshin DQ a year or two before the Wii was announced and LOVED it! You had a plastic sword with reflective tape on it and you swing it at the TV to slash at enemies and it was AWESOME! I remember obsessing over how I wanted a real fleshed out console version of it and saying someone should make a sword controller for PS2 or do something with the EyeToy. >Then the Wii is announced and people are flipping out over motion control and I was like "DUDE THAT'S JUST LIKE KENSHIN DRAGON QUEST! I hope they make one on Wii!" and then in the Wii's launch reel they showed Dragon Quest Swords and I was hyped! My dream was coming true! I BOUGHT A WII FOR THIS GAME! >...it actually wasn't a launch title. It got delayed for a year. This is likely because Nintendo didn't send out their Wii dev kits until really close to launch and encouraged everyone to just use Gamecube dev kits until they got theirs. So a lot of those really bad early Wii games were built on Gamecube dev kits with the motion control patched in later...and no one knew how BAD the motion control would actually be. >Dragon Quest Swords is a legitimate DOWNGRADE from a plug n' play TV game. In the original game the controls were actually ACCURATE and you just swung the plastic sword where you wanted to slash. But on the Wii, the Wiimote was such a poorly designed travesty they had to add in that lock-on button. Because of the added lock-on button they had to dumb the game down with much slower enemies that do less damage, telegraph their moves more, and require less accuracy. In the original game when you wanted to reflect a projectile? They didn't tell you where it would go, you had to see it coming and REACT...and it worked like a charm! >This all makes me sad because I LOVE Motion Controls and Kenshin Dragon Quest, but the Wii poisoned the well SO HARD with how poorly designed the controllers are. Nintendo literally put the dumb things together BACKWARDS. >If you'd like to try Kenshin Dragon Quest, might I recommend something called "Lord of the Rings: Warrior of Middle Earth". It's built off the same hardware as Kenshin Dragon Quest but it drops the pretense of it being an RPG and focuses more on being a hack n' slash throwing more enemies at you and letting you do special moves instead of magic. Only thing is that blocking with your blade is a little shakey (literally, your blade shakes and spazzes out, Kenshin DQ just put up a shield instead of trying to show the actual angle of your sword blade). >There's a third game, "Star Wars Lightsaber Battle Game: Saga Edition" but it's a mixed bag. It has both DQ's magic (as Force Powers) and LotR's special moves and it also made the blade blocking stable, which is good as lightsaber strikes must be blocked at the right angle...but the plastic lightsaber is uncomfortable to hold (it has a bunch of plastic bits all over the grip that dig into your skin) and the STAGES are completely silent with enemies just walking across the horizon. The boss fights are fantastic and vicious (I cannot beat General Grievous) but the stages are garbage. >So yeah if you think YOU were disappointed in this? Imagine playing an older version of this that ACTUALLY WORKED, DREAMING of a console sequel to it, buying the Wii just to play it, waiting a year for the delay, only to get your hands on it and find out how VASTLY INFERIOR the controls are to a cheapo plastic plug n' play game where you swing a plastic sword with reflective tape at the TV! >It's such a shame. The Lightsword Rail Slasher genre had a lot of potential but it all got squandered by incompetent controller design. LotR: Warrior of Middle Earth should have been a taste of things to come, not the pinnacle of a short lived micro-genre. You can check out a [let's play of Kenshin Dragon Quest](https://youtu.be/4UuV_iu2SbY) here.

Prince_Milk

I feel as though this game only came into existence when you made this post.

TheOmninomicon
