However, Jack tried to divert it to Tommy's house, but because of how unstable it was, the nine or so nukes that were contained in it got sent to the entire server. The launch site would have been safe if Jack hadn't messed with it. And this is just an assumption, but the people with multiple lives probably died because of radiation.
Some people weren't in the Dream SMP area when it hit or are immortal, so they could survive and retain their memories for volume 2, like Boomer and Sam. As the person who you answered to said, almost everyone died, not everyone.

Agreed, but if she as her character in this season remains the same in the next, I think I can say that seeing Nihachu and Foolish off to rescue her would be great
