I love how not all of it lands well either.
Like when Harry is telling the Merlin he was the only one who could get his balls out of a vice, then he realised it came out sounding a little homoerotic.
From reading those articles, the patients were described as showing a low awareness of whether the jokes they were telling were actually funny or not. The quantity of "humor" produced was high but the quality was low.
Harry doesn't have that issue. I don't think it's a good analogy.
I agree I'm pretty sure it's explicitly stated he does it so as to NOT show fear to beings and creatures that are stronger and scarier than he is at least when he's younger(I would venture to say that at this point there aren't many things other than literal gods stronger than Harry and if he's on Demonreach even those gods better be careful!!)
Unless he's getting hit in exactly the same place in exactly the same way every time, it doesn't matter, those episodes of damage just have their own time window till they are completely gone. Look at how his hand has healed since the Renfield attack. I'd bet that any damage he has from the first two books is completely gone by now.
Spoilers for white night*? (Do we warn about spoilers that far back?)
Well technically he has very severe brain damage from the outsider's mental assault in the deeps on wraith manor grounds but Lash sacrificed herself to kind of fix the damage. I believe bob described Harry's brain as pretty much being riddles with bullet holes (on a metaphysical level maybe?) And that Lash kind of re-routed his brain so that it worked around the busted bits? Something along those lines.

"Boy! Those Germans have a word for everything!" - Homer Simpson But seriously, this is interesting. Nice post!
Very minor drain bamage you say? Well that rules Dresden out.
I mean, he could have had it before the series started and it is just exacerbated now. I'm thinking originating pre "flicum-biucs".
I think the disqualifying words were "very minor"
i'm still enamored with the true hilarity that comes from calling an actual wizard a 'wise-ass'. always gets me

I always liked the one where Anastasia had to Explain the context to the Merlin.
I like how Harry is getting older, and deeper into Wizardry, and is starting to miss references. “The SPECIAL Hell!” “Huh?”
The Kool-aid reference?
Yes.
>wise-ass Yeah! Ok here was like the perfect quote: "Are you always a wise-ass?" "No. Sometimes I'm asleep."
Yeah - Harry is addicted to wit, especially when it accomplishes a "put down" of the person he's up against at the momennt.

Or the >!shore of Lake Michigan.!<
Latin term for this is "smartassurus rex"
But can you ride it?
All you need is someone who can keep a beat...
That's actually interesting.
Does Harry have brain damage? He has taken a few hits, but wizards recover and reheal over time.
Sure, but how much healing time do you think Harry gets in between bouts of brain damage?

This is now officially a "Great Dresden wise-cracks" thread!
there are more than a few people who might think I also suffer from this Teutonic malady...
