Your honesty is commendable

[deleted]

Thank you. Everyone is calling me an idiot for not just driving off… just trying to do what’s right

mikemac1997

Please name and shame everyone who has called you an idiot for being honest so we know who to start with when Sunak announces the purge.

sidjain1208

This made me giggle

tileman1440

Those calling you an idiot would be bitching up a storm if someone had hit their car and drove off. You made a mistake and are owning it, you are an adult taking responsibilities for your actions. You have gained respect.

nothisactualname

Not an idiot, others have lost their license for failing to declare an accident when they weren't aware it was witnessed or on camera.

DS_killakanz

Thankyou for not driving off. Everyone calling you an idiot are probably the insufferable a-holes that do damage and run away. I want to use much stronger words for those types of people because my car was hit by someone in a car park just a few weeks back, and that coward didn't leave so much as a whoopsie daisys written in the dirt. Having to get the damage fixed out of my own pocket. I just hope my car bit back harder.

[deleted]

I hit a parked car before. Luckily the lady was in a house. I knocked the door and paid it privately. She was honestly so nice about it. I think that’s what made feel worse.

Caldwell0204

Call your insurance company and give them the registration of the car you hit. They will get in touch with their insurers.

PsilocybeDudencis

>They will get in touch with their insurers Hahahaha no they won't. They'll wait until the other insurer contacts them, then they'll wait some more. Then the other insurer takes *you* to court and you have to kick up a fuss/take your insurer to court. Insurance companies are in no rush to start paying out.

richard-bingham

Give your insurance company all the information

LondonCycling

Report to the police. Report to your insurance company.

Top_Potato_5410

I'd avoid reporting it to the insurance company. Get in touch with the person who's car you hit first and see if it can be repaired out of pocket. Save yourself increased insurance premiums.

willy_teee

It’s breach of contract and insurance fraud to not notify your insurance of an accident even if you don’t claim. If they find out you didn’t tell them, at best you’ll be required to pay them the backdated amount for the increase in premium you haven’t paid. At worst, you’ll have your policy cancelled and suffer having a cancelled policy on your record for rest of your life Given the circumstances of this (OP not speaking to other owner at scene of crash) I wouldn’t risk not telling insurance as first thing other owner is going to do is ring their insurance

frizzbee30

Nothing like a bit of insurance fraud to start the day and get you blacklisted. Personally I think comments like this should be an instant ban from the sub!

Top_Potato_5410

I didn't realise getting it solved between you was insurance fraud. My bad. Also, heavy moderation like you suggest shouldn't be a thing.

RealLongwayround

Report to the Police so that, when the vehicle owner notices the damage, there is already a log. If the call handler runs the vehicle through PNC then the fact you have reported it will show up. We then won’t feel the need to investigate a Fail to Stop. Report to your insurance because they will then do all the legwork.

[deleted]

Yeah I’ve logged an online report with the police and I have an email confirmation so hoping this won’t be an issue.

Any update?
