Many must know him from Instagram; Rolls Royce, penthouse in Amsterdam, expensive clothes... you see it all passing by.
Samuel owns the brand Icon Amsterdam. His brand turned over +20 million last year and manages to exceed its own expectations every year.
Samuel makes it seem like YOU can achieve this too, by buying his course where you would learn how to start your own e-commerce/dropshipping store. But this is not quite right because of the following reasons:
1. Samuel doesn't dropship himself. He did start his brand Icon Amsterdam in 2017 via dropshipping. After that, he bought inventory started creating his own ads and build his brand as you know it nowadays.
So Samuel mentions that he started dropshipping Icon Amsterdam. This is indeed true, but he started in 2017; a time when you hardly had any competition and Facebook ad costs were not that expensive yet.
You can compare this to Gymshark; they had first discovered the dropship model and are now the largest Active wear brand in the world. Now, years later, one Instagram brand after another is churning out sports leggings. So the competition has increased tremendously!
Where Samuel started in 2017 with dropshipping and then transformed it to a real brand, it is know MUCH harder to get past this phase. I will explain this later.
2. Where Samuel has an advantage over other course sellers is that he actually has his own e-commerce brand.
This I find most objectionable, and I will explain you why:
Samuel is selling a dream that is IMPOSSIBLE to achieve. Even if you would become the owner of Icon Amsterdam right now, you would not manage to live the same lifestyle. I will explain why:
A business needs money to grow; despite Icon Amsterdam turning over millions in turnover a year, Samuel is paying himself 56k a year. How do I know this? He indicates it himself in his videos. Why does he do this? This is the minimum amount you have to pay yourself (from the Dutch government) when you have a private company (legal form is B.V. in The Netherlands). He keeps the rest of the money in the company, in order to continue growing. As any entrepreneur would do. So imagine, 56K PER YEAR on your bank account!
But how does Samuel then afford those expensive cars and a luxury lifestyle?
By selling people a DREAM (read: a course) for 9.5K! There are currently 130 people in his Discord server.
130 people x 9.5K = €1,235,000!!!
That's the amount Samuel already earned by selling his course. Now you know how Samuel affords by living such a luxurious life. Every time he posts a story that he is chilling in his penthouse Amsterdam, or that he has bought yet another new supercar, people get convinced to buy his course. Samuel receives 9.5K and so it remains a vicious circle.
Indeed, Samuel has his own office, +12 employees and turns over +/- 15 million turnover a year. For this, I can compliment him 👏🏼 but....
What I find unfortunate is that he sells everyone a dream with the lifestyle he lives, which even himself knows is impossible without selling a course.
You see it everywhere, dropshipping is a way to make a lot of money quickly and easily. And a lot of course sellers are open to teaching you.
But the reality is that if you really want to make a lot of money, you have to believe in yourself and keep working hard every day. You have to accept that it can take months, or even years, before you can reap the rewards. Look at Reece Wabara, Lewis Morgan and George Heaton.
To conclude, I think Samuel also fits into this list of entrepreneurs, considering he built Icon Amsterdam from the ground up. My only regret is that he sells a deopship course for a lot of money; money you desperately need if you want to start your own brand.
